We ordered late in the evening from Fattoria E Màre while my friend -- a professor visiting from out of town -- was exhausted and dealing with serious dietary restrictions that could have become life-threatening if handled incorrectly. An accident happened with our order, and cheese ended up where it absolutely could not be. But what mattered most was how the team responded. They handled the situation with care, accountability, and kindness, and they made it right quickly. That level of support means a lot when you're trusting a restaurant with someone's health. And the food? Outstanding as always. The pesto pizza, burrata affumicata, salumi with bresaola, and braised artichokes were all excellent. This restaurant has been producing consistently wonderful food for a long time, and tonight reminded me why people keep coming back. I had a fresh, delicious cosmopolitan and my husband had beer that he loved and had never tried before and was very happy with the recommendation. A pretty solid spot for pasta in Half Moon Bay! I visited for a company dinner and it was nice how they were able to accommodate such a large party. We had a group of maybe 12-15 people and we were sat in a private room at the back. I ordered the hand cut fettucine with crab and a tomato sauce and it was delicious! The crab tasted fresh and the pasta wasn't too heavy either. The portion was so filling that I ended up eating half and the other half reheated fairly well too. Service was great! They checked in on us regularly. Food took a while to come out, though we did have a big group so that was understandable. read more

My wife and I came by for a Wednesday night dinner around 6:45PM. Probably because it was during the middle of the week, the restaurant was pretty empty with only about 5 parties when we walked in. Given the space, I'm sure this place is bustling during the weekends so I cannot complain when I got a parking spot right out front and got seated immediately upon entering. Food: we were quite hungry when we arrived and definitely overestimated our appetite...especially my wife. Fried Calamari & Asparagus - 4/5 - great starter; I didn't eat the calamari due to my health condition but the batter was very light and crispy, which is what I enjoyed. A bit overkill with the amount of sauce that was given to us on the side though. Focaccia Garlic Bread - 3/5 - I would order just 1; we ordered 2 because we were hungry and I think it took up too much space in our stomachs. It's good but not super memorable. Pappardelle Pasta - 2.5/5 - Gosh, I wish this was less salty. The flavor and texture of the pasta was great but it was WAY too salty. I was washing my mouth with water continuously eating it. Bianca Pizza - 4.5/5 - Delicious! I'm a sucker for wood fired Italian pizza, especially ones with lots of mushrooms. It just was a bit hard texture wise. But the flavor was all there!! Pan Seared Whole Branzino - 5/5 - The best dish of the night. The fish was HUGE!! The skin was extra crispy while the meat was flaky, falling right off the bones. It was cooked perfectly to my liking! We immediately finished this one first and ended up taking the others to go because the fish needs to be enjoyed fresh. Glad we did. I would highly recommend this dish! We also got the Strawberry Tiramisu to go. Unfortunately, we ate it a day later after it was in the fridge so I feel it would be unfair to rate this. Ultimately, it was a bit too light for us and we prefer tiramisu on the "heavier" side. It had the texture of a coffee sponge cake instead of thick, creamier tiramisu. Overall, this was a wonderful experience for us to celebrate our anniversary. I don't know how this place would be on the weekends but we didn't have to wait and the food was delicious. First let me say that their customer service is so lovely here! We came twice in one day . For dinner and after our daughter's game for dessert. Our waiter the first time was very welcoming and helpful I unfortunately did catch his name and he also said hi when we came back for dessert again great customer service! And our waiter for dessert she was so nice we sat outside this time she came cleaned our table and recommended some dessert, I loved the coconut cheesecake. The food and service were good, however... it's super slow, everything took time so have patience. Especially if you get there first thing in the morning. They didn't seemed prepared when we got there and when we left I noticed 3-4 more employees showed up. Also, the music was terrible... one minute rock, then Italian then American. Seafood and Italian restaurant in HMB. SF chef Pablo Estrada started Fattoria E Mare in Burlingame and this location near the beach is newer. It was cold and gray and Italian food sounded perfect for lunch. It's located on Main Street so parking can be challenging but we were lucky to get a spot at the thrift store across the street. Interior feels very coastal and intimate with the use of of wood floors and table tops and that distinctly painted blue wall. Service was very good but we noticed the food took quite awhile to prepare, I want to say it was a good 25 minutes before anything showed up at the table. Wood-Fried Pizzas: This is what my wife and kids really wanted. Got pepperoni and arugula, olives, prosciutto, and pepperoni. Both tasted OK though there are better places for pizza like this but not around HMB. Seafood Linguine: Shrimp and clams. Tasted good but there was so much liquid in the bowl it was almost like a soup. Came here for Mother's Day not knowing how everything would be since Mother's Day is always packed any place you go to. Wholeheartedly I was blown away with the quality of the food and service. We were a party of 5 that was seated upon arrival . The ambiance was comfortable yet upscale at the same time. All of the appetizers came out very quickly. I would suggest the burrata , charcuterie board and the cesar salad . For main course we had a tomahawk that was cooked to perfection , melted in my mouth! The bucatini was amazing , creamy and perfectly sauced in the cheese wheel. We ordered a margarita pizza and the all meat. The all meat had a great combination of different meats with a hint of spice balanced perfectly. We finished the night with the dessert platter and all I can say is I will be back. Really liked the complimentary toasted focaccia bread! We had a couple of them! Next, I shared the Butter lettuce salad and it was refreshing and tasty with pears and tangy vinaigrette dressing. For my entree, I had the Spaghetti Chitarra Al Nera squid ink pasta with shrimp, clams, mussels, and calamari. Good amount of seafood but unfortunately the sauce was bit too salty. A touch of cheese or pepper to top it might have helped. My buddies had the grilled Branzino and short rib pappardelle. Agreed that it was fine but they've had better. Met the head chef during yelp events before, been dying to come back since. Went on a Friday night for dinner, made a reservation online. Such a cool atmosphere and overall experience, there's an amazing view of trees if you're lucky enough to get a window seat. Came with my partner this time, and was so excited for it. If I had the money for it, and the will to drive here all the time I would try all the seasonal menu changes. My order: Appetizer - Focaccia bread, this is literally the best focaccia bread I've ever had. It's almost biscuit-y. Gnocchi with pesto - First bite you can already taste the homemade freshness of the pesto and the perfect gnocchi texture. Didn't think it would be very filling without protein, but it sure was. Short rib and tripe fettuccine - This is my boyfriend's order, he loved it very much. He's not really into tripe, but he really enjoyed this( which is a shocker). Short rib was so tender, he did not want to share. LOL TLDR: It's priced how you expect really good quality food from. Would've been so much better if I was into wine with all the pairings they have. My sweetie and I had a late lunch at FEM and it was excellent. We were seated promptly by Michael who turned out to be our waiter as well. We both went with salads. I had the Caesar and my wife had the beet tower. Both were wonderful. We decided to have dessert as we had had such a healthy lunch and went with the strawberry tiramisu. Yummy to say the least. Shame on me for not reading the 1 and 2 star reviews on here first before coming to this restaurant. According to the negative reviews, we are not the first people they treated like this and we will highly likely not be the last. At 7:35pm we sat down at the bar to wait for our 8:00pm reservation. We were aware they were busy and we were patient. They expressed that they might seat us after our reservation time. Communication is key so we appreciated the transparency. The problem began at the bar. The bartender ignored us for approximately 40 minutes straight. He did not utter one word to us. No eye contact whatsoever. I understand if one is busy. However, at least acknowledge our existence. We were sitting in front of his face and I looked like a red disco ball due to my sequined outfit. I know he could see me. My sister went to talk to the host for an update on our table. She was directly in front of him, talking to him face to face, and he immediately started talking to another dinner guest behind her while she was in mid sentence. Deliberately ignoring her. The disrespect we experienced back to back is ridiculously unacceptable. If you insist on coming here, try to not directly interact with the inexperienced young male host and the "experienced" older male bartender. I have nothing bad to say about Justin Hall, the general manager. If he could impart those 2 employees with his customer service skills, it would be greatly appreciated. They need to be retrained. I am only sharing my experience to warn others of bad customer service. If you want to dine at an Italian restaurant with good customer service in Half Moon Bay, I highly suggest going to Pasta Moon. If you want to dine at the best restaurant in Half Moon Bay with above and beyond service, go to The Conservatory / Navio inside the Ritz Carlton. I ordered the dungeness crab tortellini ($36) and my fiancé ordered the fish of the day ($35) which was a halibut with a side of corn succotash. We were given a decently sized piece of focaccia to start as a complimentary app. It came out nice and hot, exactly as if it were freshly baked! My tortellini was excellent and when I requested something to give it a kick, I was given both chili flakes and a spicy hot oil (highly recommend the oil!). Fiancé said his fish was slightly overcooked, but still edible. The hot oil also paired nicely with the fish. We were both too stuffed to peruse the dessert menu afterwards. Future repeat dishes: -seared scallops (cooked to perfection) -wagyu beef carpaccio ( a must try maybe the best I've had) - roasted beet tartare (literally amazing) -cocoa pappardelle (short rib pasta with truffle oil was delicious) -Smoked mussel dish was just okay. The pork belly pieces in it were better than the mussels themselves so probably won't order that again. -grilled octopus was chewy. Sauce was good, but overall dish was just okay at best. In reality would've have given this place 5stars, but it's an older building and ventilation is not adequate so it gets overly warm and smokey in the restaurant. We came for dinner on a Sunday evening for dinner. We had two adults, a baby, and two large dogs. We were seated promptly outside and were given water pretty swiftly. We also requested a high chair which they brought over right away. The service was generally pretty good, everyone was friendly and pretty attentive. Inside was spacious but it was empty as nearly everyone chose to eat outside. I noticed it was quite stuffy and warm inside - either there's no AC or it wasn't working or turned on at the time. The food was tasty, though there was definitely a bit of a wait to get our pasta dishes. The portions were generous and everything seemed fresh. I'm mainly taking a star off because I felt things were kind of dirty. The high chair had a bunch of crumbs in it, the table didn't look wiped down, and one of the chairs across from me at the table (we were seated at a table with 4 chairs but only used 2 chairs) had a long hair stuck to it and it was there the entire length of our dinner. I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, my wife and I left pretty frustrated and disappointed. Yes, we went on Valentine's Day, and I understand that's one of the busiest nights of the year. But that's also not a surprise date on the calendar. A restaurant at this level should be prepared to manage reservations and seating without everything feeling disorganized. Our reservation was for 7:15 pm. We arrived early at about 6:50 and were told it would likely be closer to our reservation time, fair enough. When 7:15 came, we were told they were extremely busy and it would be a bit longer. We stayed patient. We didn't actually get seated until close to 7:45. Here's the part that didn't sit right: they put us in bar seats that had been open since we first walked in at 6:50. If that was going to be the plan, we could have just sat there instead of standing around for nearly an extra half hour past our reservation. It felt less like hospitality and more like they just needed to park us somewhere. When my wife spoke up, the staff apologized, but then blamed the host and said we were sat in the wrong place. We were moved into the dining room, which was better, and I appreciate the correction, but by then we were already irritated and the night had started off poorly. The food was very hit or miss. The whole branzino was the highlight, flavorful and well done, easily the best thing we had. The bruschetta was almost comical. It came as one big, extremely hard piece that we had to basically saw through just to share. Not exactly what you expect when you order an appetizer meant for the table. The cacio e pepe looked promising with the cheese wheel presentation, but it ended up being one of the worst dishes of the night. The pasta felt undercooked and the cheese had hardened and gone cold, which made it heavy and unpleasant. We also ordered the seared scallops, and they didn't arrive until the very end of the meal. Completely off timing. Service overall felt inattentive. We didn't see much of anyone unless something was wrong. By the time dinner wrapped up, we were so disappointed we skipped dessert and left. I came in expecting a memorable night. Instead, it felt like a restaurant riding hype and volume rather than focusing on execution and guest experience. Maybe it's better on a slower evening, but based on this visit, it missed the mark in a big way. The food here is amazing. E started with the marinated olives oth orange zest. So yummy I can't wait to try it at home. I had the Lobster Risotto - creamy but so flavorful with saffron and spice. The seafood was perfectly grilled lobster tail, scallops and whole shrimp. Hubby got the meatball and beet salad. Fresh and not heavy. The marinara was super fresh, made from scratch. We ended with the Peach Crostana which was lightly sweet but very fruity. The wine selection was small but perfect. Had the Italian Vermentino and Argentinian Malbec, both delicious. Absolutely the greatest piece of mind for hosting large parties. Fattoria e Mare's Catering setup was perfect for our holiday party of 30. From designing the menu, to knowing how much to prepare, and onto ordering and payment the team at Fattoria made everything easy and clear. For our party we started with the butter lettuce salad. It presented so beautifully and was as delicious as it is when dining in the restaurant. We enjoyed their spectacular garlic bread, chicken parmigiana (EVERYONE LOVES), the option for chicken fettuccine (children's favorite), and short ribs that were out of this world; perfectly savory and delicious. All finished with the house made sweet and delicate tiramisu. So thankful this restaurant does large party catering orders. The restaurant itself is nice. Sooo much seating which would be great for an event. Parking is not great. There is hardly any street parking. I parked in a parking lot around the back of the complex. I think this is more of an issue with half moon bay and not their fault. The pizza was pretty good and would recommend that on the menu. I also got pasta. I think it was fresh pasta but overcooked. Also smaller portions for the cost. Service was good. For their prices I think the pasta should have been cooked better especially given the other Italian restaurants in the area. read more
