Had weekday lunch at Half Moon Empanadas. Ordered a Traditional Combo with a Beef Empanada and a Spicy Chicken Empanada. Quality Looking for just a quick bite to eat, I stopped into Half Moon Empanadas. I ended up selecting two of the traditional items. First up was the Beef Empanada, which was stuffed with beef, onions, and peppers. I was not a fan of the very bland flavor. Even though other elements were included it really just tasted like watery ground beef. And the filling had a negative impact on the baked crust, which was falling apart on the bottom. The Spicy Chicken Empanada was better, but still not great. It was filled with chicken, onions, peppers, eggs, spices, and tomato sauce. With some heat and some flair, it was a big step up over the Beef Empanada. I also felt like this one stayed together much better. However, neither of these were the items I really wanted to try. My original order involved the more unique signature items, and they had none of them ready to go. And when the menu only has ten or so choices, having three of them not available is unacceptable. Quantity The empanadas are not massive, but they are hearty enough to fill you up. For lunch two seemed like the correct choice, maybe three if you are feeling extra hungry. Value The Traditional Combo, which comes with two empanadas and a drink, costs a little over $8. If you order larger quantities the price dips down to around $3 per empanada. Ambiance Half Moon Empanadas is located in the Little River area of North Miami. The shop is located in a small strip and shares a building with two other restaurants. The store does not have an indoor space, just a window and some outdoor seating. A long bar is set up with several stools and then two tables are located under a small awning. I will say they did an extraordinary job in decorating the building, with very cool murals. It makes it hard to miss the spot when driving by. However, it is definitely a place you just want to grab and go. Crowd During lunch hours the small complex was quite busy, however very few people made their way down to Half Moon. There was only one other woman who ordered food and that was after already picking up other items at the restaurant next door. I don't even know if that is a problem here as I got the impression that they are really not even interested in standard customers, but rather are focused on catering orders. There were signs up everywhere for party combos and large events, and I assume the staff was busy in the back putting those bigger orders together. Service When I arrived there was no one at the window. I was not sure if there was an inside area to order so I walked in the door and found myself in the middle of the kitchen. My presence alerted some of the staff who at that point directed me back outside, but once I was standing at the window they disappeared again. After hanging around for far too long someone finally came over to take care of me. I gave my order and was told none of those items were available, crossing off about half of the already small menu. I really should have just walked away at that point, but having already invested this time I stuck with it and was rewarded with mediocre food. Parking The shop shares a small parking lot with two other restaurants. I chose to park on the street rather than wait for a spot to open up. Extra Half Moon Empanadas was a pretty major letdown. The misleading menu, the lackluster food, and the poor service, all make it a place I don't see myself returning. read more

So so so good!!! My favorite empanadas are the Cheesy Gaucho and the Creamed Spinach! I've also had the Banana Split that was super rich and good. I didn't really like the Guava and Cheese one but I would definitely order the others again and again!!! read more

Half moon Empanadas was a tasty and cheap diversion away from all the regular airport fare. I ordered a spinach empanada which was $5 and filled me up for an entire 3 hour flight. Definitely a unique, delicious, and good value meal in comparison to spending $3 on two hard boiled eggs or $10 for a small sandwich elsewhere in the airport. read more

I was extremely pleased with my experience here at Half Moon. I drive by it on my way into work so it's been tempting me for a while. I decided to place a large order to bring to work to share. Yes, it did make me instantly popular but I digress. From the moment the girl answered the phone I knew this was a good idea. I spouted out the normal, beef, chicken etc and she listed all the empanadas they had for me. I ordered beef, chicken, spicy beef, cheese and as I was finishing my order she recommended the spinach. Thank goodness she did because that was a crowd pleaser! They were all outstanding. Cooked fresh as I ordered them. My favorite thing is that they stamp each empanada with what the filling is. I usually run into the problem of ordering several different kinds and not knowing which is which after I get them home! Not an issue at Half Moon. The girls working inside were happy and helpful and the product was quality. I found out they also deliver so I will definitely be frequenting Half Moon Empanadas and invite you to as well! read more

First the good - The girl working the counter was efficient and pleasant with a great attitude. The spinach empanada had what I presume to be a 3-4 centimeter rock or piece of concrete inside of it that could have easily broken a tooth. Luckily it only scraped a back molar before being spit out. Coffee tasted acidic and came out lukewarm. Not sure what's going on with the kitchen but it's not clean. read more

Hey Yelpers, I hope all is well to whomever is reading this! Okay so this place is a solid 3.5 but since I cannot do that I'll give it a 4. As far as visually pleasing this place is a solid 5. I tried this spot for the first time today and I can honestly say I was pretty satisfied. I ordered a half of dozen of chicken Empandas which was required. DO NOT order this on Uber Eats. A $19 meal will turn into $30. Its best just to go in and pickup yourself. None the less, I love Empanadas. So I was excited to try this spot. I didn't like how I was forced to get half of dozen. Honestly it should be my choice on the quantity. The packaging was simply AMAZING I cannot life. It was so secure. The Empandas come with the Half Moon branding which are so cute! A+ for visual effort for sure. The Empandas itself are okay, not bad just pretty good. Honestly I felt like it was missing something but I don't know what? I've had better at small mom and pop shops around the corner. Although the Empandas are good there are better else where. I think they make up for decent B - Empandas with the cute imagery. They Empandas come packed with feelings of your chose. Not a bad experience. However I don't know if I can see myself eating from this place often. No offense to this resturant just don't think the Empandas are that good enough that I need to go back. Vickeys Bakery is better if we are being totally honest. However that's just my preference. i brought my son to Nicklaus children hospital this morning for a Dr appointment. he was missing breakfast and saw the mini cafeteria stand at the main entrance. as he purchased (overpriced empanadas) 2 empanadas, he requested a cup of water and was denied. the employee said the were not allowed to give water. we had to purchase it. anywhere we go, we were never refused a cup of water. this really surprised me. we ended buying $2.19 small bottle of water. i believe no one can be denied a cup of water. this is just bad practice. Their empanadas are baked, not fried- I love that! Good selection and reasonable priced. They brand the empanadas, so you know what's inside; cute idea. Some people may find them to be a little pricier than your regular cafecito shop, but their empanadas are fully stuffed, unlike others which only half filled.... This place is very close to where I live so the location is perfect for me! I had a chicken empanada and the three cheese empanada. Both were delicious but I was partial to the Chicken. They also make a real good cafe con Leche. I plan on becoming a regular so I can tell you about the entire menu but for now I highly recommend checking it out. I live across the street so I knew eventually I would have to give them a try, I walked up and was greeted instantly , I could see all the ladies hand filling and making the empanadas. I didn't give them 5 stars because they didn't have the bacon egg and cheese ready which I found strange as I went at 8 am for breakfast. I opted for the spicy chicken and a ham and cheese for my partner. Were I to open a car dealership that adhered to the Half Moon Emapanadas buisness philosophy, I would provide brochures depicting luxurious Rolls-Royce, flawless Lamborghini, glamorous convertibles, roomy SUVs, and clean, reliable, sedans. But when a customer went to select one of the offered vehicles, all I would have to sell (at ridiculous price) was a ten-year-old Kia featuring a flat tire, gum-filled cup holders, susupicious stains on the seats, broken air-conditioner, windows that cannot be rolled down, and car disc player stuck repeating a Barry Manilow album. There wouldn't even be any windshield wiper fluid. - A real jalopy. That is what Half Moon Empanadas is like - I wanted to order a pulled pork, or steak, or hamburger empandas. None of those were available. Instead (after a significant wait) I was stuck with a spinach empanda. It was little more than a block of half-melted, processed cheese sprinkled with "spinach" (i suspect those green flakes were in fact expired fish food) all sealed within a bland, stale pastry. Not impressed! The empanadas look good but when you taste them they dont have flavor. They have a menu with a lot of different flavors but they just make 5 of them. This place is way overpriced for the food that you are getting. For one empanada I paid $5 so I was expecting a pleasant experience and a great taste. This was sadly not the case as the empanadas were bland, boring, and a waste of money. I had to soak each one in hot sauce to add some flavor to make it better.
