we are locals and the 4 of us decided to try half moon point, 2 of us ordered the lobster special, sounded good but not what we were served. the dinner was served with hot cherry peppers which changed the entire taste of the meal, the hot flavor captivated the noodles which were sparse. The scallops and salmon dinner were fair. the service was good and nicely decorated but very loud. the manager was supposed to visit us but never arrived. Stay away unless you want a burger or a sandwich and a beer! read more

I so wanted to love our experience tonight. Just got home from HMP from our first visit there. We arrived at 7:00 on a Tuesday.Got a table within 15 minutes. Had a round of drinks and ordered our meal (wrap and salad). One hour later...still sitting there with empty glasses and no food. Now it is almost 8:20 and we ask the waitress to pack up our food because now it has been an hour and a half and we need to pick up our kids! I ordered the lobster fennel salad...was starving and opened it up at home to devour--no brie, no salad dressing and no pistachios. My husband's wrap and fries were fine. We will try again but HMP definitely needs more wait staff and more kitchen help. Best of luck. read more

Just had one of the best dinners ever at this restaurant with my wife, daughter and in laws. My in laws were separating their 57th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our waitress Alison was awesome as well. What a disappointment. We're locals and hoping this place would be good, but it isn't. I had a Cesar salad with dried out shavings of Parmesan cheese and store bought cheap looking croutons. I decided to get something from the sandwich menu to see if the kitchen could put out decent simple food. I ordered the prime rib sandwich. Came out barely warm and really fatty. The shoestring fries were cold and probably frozen, taken from a bag. I feel bad for the wait staff having to serve this food. What a waste of money. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would! Fantastic place to have an affair! Beautiful decor, and just an overall elegant but comfortable setting. I had a baby shower there, but not an ordinary shower, this was via FaceTime. A first for them, and for me! There were some issues with the WiFi because of Comcast's inability to correct the problem. But the General Manager Holly figured it out and we used one of the servers iPhone hotspots, which then worked great! Holly went above and beyond to make my vision a reality. Even to the point of volunteering her husband to make a stand for my backdrop! She was WONDERFUL to deal with. The servers were great, and the food was delicious! Everyone had a great time and commented on what a lovely place it was. We're bringing my sister here for her birthday next week...before the shower she never tried this place! Yaa! it finally opened. Renovations came out very nice-Casual feel but pretty with little fireplaces, some rustic wood walls upstairs, nice big bar downstairs and small one upstairs. Outdoor seating area. We had reservations and we were seated immediately even though it was very busy.The food was very good and the menu had a few of the Harpoon Willies staples like seafood by the pound and sausage rigatoni. We had crab cakes and short rib Wellington. (Prices: entree's were $27,$23. so with 2 drinks each, 1 caeser and 2 entrees-it came to $99) Because they just opened, the food took a little while to come out but it was worth the wait. Many wines by the glass and some great craft beers (Icarus, Kane, Devil's Backbone) lots of IPA's on tap-which we love! service was very good, especially for a brand new place. Acoustics need a little help, pretty loud and hard to talk in the downstairs area-but not intolerable. plenty of car and bicycle parking. will return! read more

We went here with a party of 5 on a Sunday night. Our waiter was fantastic the food was ok. The main reason for the low stars started with my brother in laws food and how the restaurant handled the situation. My brother in law received a very undercooked turkey burger. We let the food runner know and he responded by saying "what do you want me to do about that". We then told him to get the waiter. It was sent back. After a few minutes they brought a "new" burger. Well actually, they just pushed the original burger back together. The bite mark from before was still in the burger. When I told the waiter he was very apologetic and got the manager. The manager came over and said sorry. The waiter took the burger off the bill. When we left I told the waiter how disappointed I was in how the manager handled the situation. He gave us drink tickets. The manager didn't handle the situation right in any way. He didn't do anything to have us return as customers. That being said we will never go back. read more

We had a great experience at Half Moon Point last Saturday night. We had no trouble parking and we were seated right away. (did have a reservation). The restaurant is decorated beautifully- very clean and airy. The service was perfect. Servers were very timely and polite and caring. The food was absolutely delicious. Each one of us had a different entree and we were all pleased. My sister-in-law raved about the crab cake. Our neighborhood is thrilled to have such a great place to go close to home. Very noisy, ordered drinks waited about 1/2 hr before delivered to table. Ordered second round of drink didn't get it right. When check came had items we didn't order sent it came back the same finial on third time got it right. Few minutes later the wrong item on check were being deliver to our table. I've been here before for $10 prime rib which is great for the price. Tonight I came to try what else they had to offer and was wildly disappointed. The fish and chips coating was burnt and tasted like old oil. Same with the coating on the fried shrimp. It didn't even stick to the Shrimp and completely crumbled off. You couldn't get one of those shrimps in half with a chainsaw they were so tough. The burger was over cooked but flavorful. They told us the desserts were great and they were horrible. They were blocks of sugar. The chocolate cake that has peanut butter in it was like a lump of sugar butter and made my teeth hurt. I am mainly giving one star because once we told our waiter about our shrimp and fish that were not even touched and was all still there he did nothing to correct any of it. read more

Disappointing. Gets 1star for appetizers; lobster bisque thin but palatable, roasted clams and Brussel sprouts okay. Downhill from there. Fish and chips so grease laden left an oil slick on plate along with batter that fell off; soggy French fries, tasteless tartar sauce and coleslaw. Surf and turf ordered medium, steak was cremated and lobster dry and rubbery. Filet mignon ordered medium was still on the run. Waitress was pleasant but never checked about satisfaction of meal and second drink ordered before entrée came was delivered in time for dessert. No excuse for food they're supposed to specialize in being so poorly prepared. Also, this new deal having other than your waitress dropping off your plates is not helpful! read more

First time at Half Moon & we had a really great experience! Attentive wait staff, awesome apps (Brussels sprouts and tuna bites) and great entrees. The meat & potatoes entree (with gnocchi and broccoli) was delicious. Crab cakes were awesome and the shrimp & grits was a hit as well. Only reason I am bumping it down one star is because one person got the seafood bake and their piece of cod was definitely questionable (weird color, hard to cut, off putting taste). My wife and I went for dinner on Saturday night June 24th. We had a reservation and were seated promptly on the outside deck as we requested. At 6:30 PM the downstairs dining area was full and we were the last table on the patio. My clams on the half shell appetizer were very fresh and very cold. I followed those by a grilled cheese and lobster sandwich which was loaded with delicious lobster meat. My wife is a tuna-lover. Her entree was cooked to her liking and very satisfying for her. Drink prices at Half Moon Point are reasonable and the service was very attentive. We will definitely return. read more

Let me start by saying that I want to love this place because it's close and the building is beautiful. The beer selection is very good, but could make the beer list more available because it is vast and changes often. Ordered Calamari, which was not good, too soft and rubbery; tuna bites were okay but microscopic, hummus platter was not very good- jarred pickles, several carrots, and some pita chips (I have never seen pickles served with hummus and I hope to never again). My family and I never leave reviews but I thought the team that worked my sisters October 26th baby shower deserve some recognition for their hard work and professionalism. Holly was great to work with and schedule our party with, but we were very impressed with the wait staff that handled our party. My grandmother had a medical emergency during the shower. The bartender called us an ambulance and got a manager immediately. The wait staff was generally concerned and allowed us to use the room a little after our time was up so my sister could finish opening her gifts, since we were helping my grandmother right as the food came out (she ended up being ok). The staff was friendly, on top of the food and cake time, and easy to get along with. I would recommend having a shower or party there because of Holly and the wait staff (I didn't get their names unfortunately), and of course because the venue was beautiful and the food was great. read more

Visited on a Friday night. Bar was full, promptly seated on time for reservation. Service was prompt and attentive. Excellent selection of American fare on the menu - something for everyone. if you have never had the fried Brussels sprouts with garlic and parm at this restaurant, you haven't lived at all!!! my salad was excellent, the balsamic dressing correctly balanced and enjoyed the drink (cannot remember the name) with white cranberry but the Brussels? omg, the Brussels!!! even if you don't like Brussel sprouts, you have to try these. over and above the fact that when you put bacon on anything it's good, these are extra good. crispy, dredged in oil and bacon fat (but not too much mind you) and shaved parm on top is the killer. wait staff was fantastic, love the ambiance and there's a private room for parties. read more

I am writing this review with the hope that Half Moon Point is reading reviews and listening to what people are saying. We live in Point Pleasant, and Harpoon Willy's has been one of our favorite restaurants for years and years. We were hoping that Half Moon would be our new goto restaurant, but after giving it a few tries, we feel it just doesn't compare to Harpoon. We had a party over the 4th of July weekend, and everyone we spoke to felt the same. The food/menu at Half Moon is such a disappointment. We all agreed that it is worth the little bit of a longer ride to get to Harpoon Willy's. We do hope to hear that changes are being made at Half Moon, and as soon as that happens, we will definitely give it another try. read more

I went for my graduation dinner thinking I was in for a fine dining experience but instead I had a disaster dinner. Everything about the restaurant was slow. They were extremely short staffed considering the number of large reservations they had and we waited an hour and twenty minutes for food. Even the drinks were slow as some people who ordered beers from the bar sat waiting for thirty minutes to receive their drinks and the very few times the waitress left the corner she stood in all night to talk to her coworker to check on our table, she neglected to bring water to fill out glasses that had been empty for 15 minutes. When we finally did get the food it was sub par. I got the lobster grilled cheese thinking it looked good and was incredibly disappointing. The sandwich was tasteless and overwhelmed by bread, the lobster meat was too thick and should've been cut into smaller pieces and soaked in some butter, they need way more cheese, the bread overpowered the sand which and I did not pay $15 to eat two thick pieces of stale toast with omg big lump of crab concentrated in one spot with one slice of melted cheese, and to top it all off it was cold which makes me think it was probably sitting on the line for at least a half hour before making it to our table. No one at my table was particularly satisfied with our meal and the waitress was either ignorant or simply just didn't care because we never saw a manager even though we were receiving horrible food and horrible service and had been vocal about our disappointment. read more

Very loud and slow service make this a place I will think twice about returning to. Wife and I went for appetizers and drinks, could barely hear each other. Got the hummus platter which was a huge disappointment. It had three spreads but a total of 6 or 7 pita chips, 3 carrot sticks and a half dozen pickle chips right from the jar. We asked about more pita chips, which took about 15 minutes. They charge an extra dollar which I didn't mind, but a word to the wise is ask for extra right up front because who knows when they will come read more

I've never been disappointed here before but last night changed my opinion. I ordered a cosmo with top shelf vodka for $12 and did not taste like much. The salmon was extremely fishy and veggies bland. Red velvet cake tasteless and dry. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

One Star is too high of a rating. My family and I went to Half Moon last night and arrived at 5:50 PM. The place was crowded but we were seated right away. We were seated near the kitchen door and for the next 2 1/2 half hours we could hear the screaming coming out of the kitchen. My experience was the worst I have ever encountered. After about an hour wait my wife's medium well burger came out charcoal black on the outside and raw on the inside. My son's medium felit mignon came out purple in the middle and cold. Sent the food back and had to wait over another hour. I spoke to the manager who apologized and said the food would be out shortly and there would be no charge. The food finally came out at 8:30 pm and was worst that the first round. So we walked out 2:40 minutes later with an empty stomach and a lot of frustration. I hope they get their act together soon. read more

My husband and I decided to try this place for the first time on a Saturday evening.. parking here is very limited so off the bat it was already an inconvenience... When we walked in it was very busy lots of people so we thought that was a good thing....the only option was to sit outside or else the wait would of been 45 min..there wasn't any utensils on the table and when we ordered soups for appetizers, they brought the soups to us still with no utensils, they were so quick to drop food off and keep it moving. We had to wait for another server to bring us our utensils...Our server was very nice, took our orders quickly but the food still took a long time to come out! I ordered a steak Medium-rare and it came out dry and extremely well done! I wasn't impressed... and towards the end they messed up on our final bill! I wouldn't recommend going back for dinner, I will however try one more time to go for lunch! Maybe then that experience will change my mind! Overall wasn't impressed read more

Three things I enjoy about a restaurant the ambience, the service and lastly the food. Of course I need the food to be good, however the ambience and the service means a lot. My mom's french onion soup came out cold with melted cheese on top no big deal my wifes black and blue Burger came out so raw it was red and pasty inside with blood leaking out all over the dish and onto the tablecloth, ordered it medium well. Not that hard to cook. So the five of us waited for her burger to come out again finally, it came out same exact way, red leaking blood everywhere. What do you do at this point everyone's watching all the food is cold at the table. No apologies, no manager, manager is looking at us the whole time. Waitress said we don't know what you want to do , do you want another one , really. We said yes finally the third one came out cooked. We enjoyed eating therr a few times, but the whole thing with the manager not walking over to us once was ridiculous , never go back. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I have EVER had at any restaurant in my entire life!!! Servers did all they could, but food started coming out about an hour and a half after we ordered and was cold, or just completely messed up. Chared burger meat, cold clams, awful oysters. The most disappointing thing though was there was not one manager anywhere to be seen and one should have been there. Maybe he or she could have helped stop the at least three tables we witnessed just get up and walk out. Maybe an apology, a comped drink, or a free dessert for our kids ( ages 2, 4, and 6) which were all somehow so well behaved (and I truly wish they were not because then we would have also walked out before receiving our check which included every single item except the wrap my wife ordered that was completely wrong). Absolute mess of a business! I live very close and I do not know if I can ever see myself going here again! Such a shame really. read more
