I see my last review was about 12 years ago, and surprise surprise, I haven't really changed. I continue to add books to my actual library as I just don't click with any e-readers, although sometimes I listen to audiobooks when driving. But if I'm not driving, I really prefer to sit and flip through a physical book. I'm forever a fan of Half Price Books so I can explore a bunch of books in person and also feel good about buying used books. And I'm especially a fan of this location since I grew up going to it. I've been here countless times -- my whole family used to visit after dinner at CiCi's Pizza (which was next door, once upon a time). I don't know why but it's extra fun to end your day at a bookstore, when it's dark outside. Maybe because you know you're gonna go straight home, get ready for bed, and start reading whatever new (to you) goodie you found. And never fear, you'll always find something. read more

Spacious, clean, well stocked, overflowing with affordable books, games, and music; this bookstore has everything one could wish for. The store was well staffed with booksellers eager to answer questions on my visit. Bonus! This location is located in a mini mall next to multiple thrift stores and a Dollar Tree so if you want to continue shopping around the rest of the mini mall that that's an option as well. Half Price Books is an awesome place. They will buy your old books from you. Granted they do not pay you much for them, but on the flip side they also do not charge much for the books you buy. We brought a stack of probably 15 books and they bought half of them and the others they said they would donate or recycle or obviously we could keep them, so we went ahead and donated them. It is nice to know that they have the potential to be re-used. We bought my neice a ton of the Nancy Drew series to give to her. They had most of the series and all in hard back as well. I love a good hard back book but rarely buy them other places because they are just extra expensive but Half Price books has a good amount of hard backs and all of their pricing is really inexpensive. They also sell a good amount of vinyl records. I didn't get a chance to dig through them but I just don't know many places that sell them so I figured I would point that out. read more

I love this HPB! As a serious reader, I am always in here. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The store is always very clean!

My sweet beloved wanted to do some thrift shopping so we headed to this plaza and found this gem. We didn't even know it was there. Having a thrift shop and a book store in one plaza excited us both. I mean what else is there to say about this place except HEAVEN! Books AND Vinyl??? The damage we did...don't worry about it sweetheart. Along with books and vinyl there are other novelty or collectibles. I think I we did good. We didn't clean the joint out, not that we didn't want to. We exercised the appropriate level of restraint one can muster when you're a bibliophile and musicophile. Without a doubt we'll definitely be back. It's a favorite now. read more

I have loved Half Price Books for years. It just has the feel of the love for books. Not sure if that makes sense, but it feels one part local library, one part rare book store, one part corporate book store and all comes together to have a great feel to me. I go to a lot of half price books, I look for 3 things: VHS tapes, video game stuff and occult books. Leaving this review based on their section of those items. VHS- decent here, not the biggest supply compared to other locations, but I do like the 1.99 pricing unless otherwise marked. Not individually pricing every single tape is what keeps me coming back here. Video Games- also good, big supply, pricing at HPB on video games is almost always wack, but I have found a few affordable gems here. Their glass display is always full. Occult- very lacking here, never seen a rare occult book here, there is sort of a glass display in that area, but mostly full of religious texts. At this location I've never found anything. Overall one of the better locations in Dallas, friendly staff. Would recommend. read more

Excellant selection of paper backs and music! For a lover of books, I gotta check out any book store I see, be it used or new! This place will buy books and music, but they sell what the have half price. Everything I found was in good shape, gently used and and at a great price! The fiction section was a good reprensentation of popular authors, they have science fiction and young adult, cooking and crafting, even a small memoirs section. Time for a review update! I spent sometime browsing the kiddos section today, looking for some goods to get my kiddo ready for Pre-K over the summer. Did you know that not only does HPB sell used items, but new low cost items as well? They've seriously got great tools for learnings your ABC's (..not my ABS's, my toddler's ABC's.) that are fresh! Traceables, perforated workbooks, items that you'd think you wouldn't see in a second hand book shop, but they've got em'! They've also got great new items for adults too. Thank you notes, and journals, fresh tarot decks and writable cookbooks. The items, although new, still register for a pretty decent "used" price I'd say. Each item is roughly under $10 and I think thats a pretty good steal for something brand spanking new! A few pluses I'd like to add for the frazzled mama (ie: ME!): - complimentary coffee in the back! - a changing table in the ladies room - a nice kiddo's area with room for the little's to roam. - SUPER SWEET mini carts with a child seat! WHAT?! I've never seen these before, anywhere! They're like...two layers of mini... but have a seat that doesn't angle forward and take off your kiddos crotch when they sit in it (you guys know what I'm talking about right?) I'd say its like, one of the most comfy kiddo seats in a cart to date! MY KID ACTUALLY STAYED IN THE SEAT AND DIDN'T WHINE. HALLELUJAH!!! read more

It's really hard to review a one Half Price Book store over another since some of the content changes from one store to another and the kind of content they have can be subjective. But, what I'll say is that I really enjoy browsing this and other Half Price books when I can (usually for CDs). The store is maintained well, service is typical, and you'll be able to get your hands on over 20 copies of the same Better Then Ezra album (LOL). My only minor complaint about Half Price Books is the strange new products they offer. I don't know if you've noticed this stuff too, but they all offer these poor production quality CDs, DVDs, and various other items on different subject matter. You can tell because it's nothing you've seen anywhere else, and they will have a ton of the same stuff (plus it's usually shrink wrapped). I glance right over these products, and I have a hard time believing that they're moving this product out the door (since, like I said, they have a ton of it). Anyways, just a curious observation I wanted to mention. :) read more

From the first time I went to this location to sell my books I had a problem. The employee there lied to me telling he couldn't take all of my books. He tried to get me to donate them. Since I NEVER was told that by any other location I told him, "no I'm taking them back". What do you know, I went to my normal location and they bought them... The most recent problem was today, he didn't lie, he was just incredibly RUDE! The first thing he says to me was VERY condescending and demeaning in tone. He said, "The wait is going to be at least thirty minutes, you've got two people ahead of you." I don't know WHAT made him think that I wouldn't have assumed there was some sort of wait involved?? I sold books to different locations dozens of times. I didn't even walk in there with an attitude! That's the only reason I might have deserved that kind of rudeness. I guess he was the manager?? Could not believe the audacity in being that rude to a customer! I matched his tone because I was trying to prove a point; apparently he's also dense because he continued with his tone after I was trying to prove my point. I don't know how anyone can get away with speaking that way to a customer. The dude needs to be FIRED. The other employees are nice. Maybe the ones behind the counter are the power hungry ones who try to make you feel like an idiot? read more

As with most half price books, this one is a great spot to find a few books below the general price. The size of this location is fairly modest, with this of course limiting their selection. That said however, I've found some real gems at this location, especially in the board top gaming area. Given most games of this nature tend to be a bit more on the expensive side, getting them at a deep discount is always appreciated. As far as their staff, they have been super friendly the few times I have dropped in, and have always stepped up to help if I mentioned there was anything I was looking for. They have also been very good at maintaining their stock, the shelves being in better order than a few other location I have visited. Overall, a great half price location. read more

Absolutely love this place. For a chain, it does not feel at all like a chain location. It is the perfect quirky, semi-musty, mix of new/collector/used eclectic. Could spend all day here--perfect rainy day destination. Very broad mix of reads, semi-decent CD selection. Only negative is they only pay pennies on the dollar for used books. I do love the vast selection of material they have here, and find myself able to sit and read almost as if it were a library. The books are inexpensive and usually in good quality, and the location is someone convenient. However the downside is you can't make a good amount of money from selling books to them. For some reason, I can't find any place around here that buys books, but this place is almost a rip-off if you're attempting to sell. A large pile of old books in what I thought was good condition landed me 8 bucks. Amazon, Craigslist, or even a garage sell would be better. Even Ebay. So the end result is, this is a great place to buy good books cheap, but not a good place to sell. In the end it's just a take it or leave it type of place. read more

This experience was pretty bad, sadly. The people looking through the books I was getting rid of made fun of my collection, and then it took forever for someone to give me the cash at the register. We absolutely love this store! We come in and sometimes end up spending 2-3 hours here, reading books, magazines, looking through cd's, computer games, and movies. The staff is exceptional, always willing to help us find something even though they do not have an automated computer system that has everything in order. We always walk out of here with movies, games and books at very LOW prices and in GREAT condition! They also have outside deals (VHS movies, computer games, writing utensils, board games, etc) for as cheap as 1$! The only downside is that they offer you absolutely NO money back on the things you turn in. We are offered literally pennies on the dollar for books, DVD's, etc. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this place for your bibliophile needs! read more

Overall I have a positive outlook on half price books and this is the closest half price books to me! I love books and the older book store feel. Usually the staff is really nice, they offer educators discounts, and my daughter likes to go there. Sometimes with selling I'm happily surprised by what I get, other times disappointed. Though I am usually the kind of person who is just looking to get something out of my spring cleanings with as little time or energy on my part. If your looking to make more than 20-40% back on your items then you need to sell it yourself on cragslist/ebay/facebook sales group, etc. ... this is a business that is interested in making profit to keep their staffed paid & doors open, not getting you every penny you wanted for it. Sometimes here I can find a good deal on something, other times I can find better prices on items elsewhere and for better condition, even at other half price books. Or just check it out from the library if its something for myself. read more

We were traveling to Minnesota and stopped off in Richland Hills for the night. We decided to go look for a half price book store because our daughter enjoys reading Manga books. We had our dog with us and we were just going to walk her around outside instead of leaving her in the car. As we walked to the doors of the store my husband read "bring your pet in". Called ahead asking for a specific book and they were able to find a copy at their location and even looked up where else there are hard copies since they only carried the paper back. The place was busy when I got there but the line ran smoothly and the cashiers and workers were all very friendly. I also checked out the graphic novel section and found some great reads for my 4th grade students. It's often so hard to find current graphic novels for children so this was a nice surprise. Compared to a couple of the newer stores I've been in, this location in mid-Cities is older, dirtier, messy and, based on 1 visit, not as friendly. As always, I find a large selection, but most of the times can't find the "latest" titles in paperback that I like. At this store, the clerks check out - no one available to help out with browsing questions. I find Half-Books a change of pace from Barnes & Noble - but not a replacement. read more

Decent prices, good selection. There are sections you can find cheap gag gifts. I like the fact you can find used or even new board games and puzzles here at low prices.
