BYOB FYI. I feel I didn't know this before getting a reservation. They do not have any drinks other than water and tea. The staff are very nice though. I came here on NYE there were three adults and one child. They do not have bento boxes, karaage or dumplings. I got a hot green tea, and three rolls. The turtle, the mafia, and caterpillar. The were very small rolls, not well formed, very average. And we got the tempura sweet potato roll, although the sweet potato wasn't tempura there were just fried pieces on top of the sweet potato roll. Nevertheless it was better than the turtle. Delicious sushi, lots of vegetarian options, and a chill ambiance that is not overly pretentious! I did make a reservation not knowing how busy they'd be on a Saturday night. There was plenty of space but I sat at the bar (although it picked up a bit as the night went on) and was able to watch the chefs prepare and chat a little with them. The service was fast and friendly. Knowing they are BYOB, I grabbed a drink from Garfield's nearby and the server at Komorebi gave me a glass but also provided water. I got edamame, the tequila roll, and chili mango. Honestly it was all delicious, but the chili mango roll stood out to me the most as the perfect complement to the tequila roll. Komorebi sushi has a huge menu, including a lot of very good veggie roll options. They have the basic veggie rolls like a lot of restaurants, but then they also have SIX speciality veggie rolls, which I have found is very rare for a sushi place! I ordered the crispy rice as an appetizer (which does have fish) and then the inari roll for my meal. All the veggie rolls sounded good but I ended up going with the inari roll because I love fried tofu and kampyo. Such a nice spot serving up high quality sushi. It is fresh, and they have a mix of classic rolls and unique creations. The menu is enormous. We tried the white castle and garlic salmon, which were both tasty twists on classic rolls. I'll highlight the white castle roll, which has very creamy texture, much more so than you would typically expect from a sushi roll. It had salmon and mango inside, draped with a white tuna and a super-thin slice of jalapeno. But the star was the tequila roll. It had a very light spice to it that grew on the palette in a very pleasant way, and then a burst of freshness from cilantro and lime. It has tuna, yellowtail, avocado, and it's wrapped in a green soybean sheet rather than rice. It gets its nice from the fact that it's served with a wedge of lime like a shot of tequila. Pro tip: they don't serve alcohol, but it is BYOB. read more

Everyone needs a Komorebi in their neighborhood! Finally had the chance to try their menu and was so impressed. After spending a sizable amount of time perusing the menu, I settled on the Smokey and Green In rolls. I ordered via delivery and both survived the trip well with a lovely presentation to boot. The Smokey roll was absolutely outstanding- the charred salmon was perfectly complemented by a creamy shrimp filling and crunchy spice of jalapeno. Generally, I am dubious about excessive sauces on sushi, but the wasabi mayo perfectly tied together the flavor notes. A sprinkle of cilantro really took the dish to the next level. The Green In roll was excellent as well and very refreshing- the veggies were so crunchy and the sesame sauce brought a refreshing sweetness to the spicy jalapeno. I really appreciated how fresh all of the ingredients were (especially the fish) and that the fillings were very generous. Still dreaming about this sushi and already looking forward to next time. We stumbled upon Komorebi on a random weekday while craving sushi and decided to give it a try. Turns out, this was a pleasant surprise for a new sushi spot in the neighborhood. We ordered a mix of items--Salmon Avocado Roll, Yellowtail Scallion Roll, Black Monster Roll, Tequila Roll, and Fatty Tuna Nigiri & sashimi. All the sushi rolls were great, and the fatty tuna was really good. The ambiance is cozy, though it felt a bit hot and humid inside, which made the dining experience a little less enjoyable. But other than that, the food quality and prices were great. One thing to note: the fatty tuna was priced higher than what I've seen at other places, but it was still worth it. We ordered the sushi supreme Togo and it was so yummy! It's a good price for how much you get. 10 nigiri and 2 rolls. The fish was very fresh, the sushi rice was the perfect amount under the nigiri with a small amount of wasabi, and they give a good amount of ginger. We were surprised to be able to be seated right away for a group of 4 on a Friday. It seemed busy inside but I think many people were there for a takeout order. This place is BYOB, which I appreciated, since their menu is so extensive. I would want them to focus solely on their menu. We got Mackerel a la carte - this was really good. As for rolls, we shared the Mafia, Tequila, Orchard, Inari, and a couple other ones that I can't remember. The black rice ones were surprisingly really good. The menu is very big, so it is very overwhelming to read and choose. I also dislike the amount of super white tuna (escolar) usage - this is a fish that is not very digestible. With so many sushi places in wicker park, it took us a while to get to Komorembi but I have to say... it's by far the best we've had so far aside from Seadog Sushi! It's a little pricey but pretty standard for Chicago and worth it for the better quality. We went with a couple simple rolls - spicy tuna and California (you have to pay $1 to get spicy Mayo on the side, they almost forgot mine so check your bag). And two special rolls - the Dragon roll and sorry I forget the other name but tuna with crunchies on top and crab inside. The simple rolls were above par. Better than other places in WP for sure. The special rolls were both solid. I'd probably try something different next time though with all the options. The house salad was a good portion and the dressing was delicious! I wanted to give this place 5 stars... I think 3 is being generous. Food was great! Service, not great. Our server was not very pleasant, didn't check on us once after we ordered (only took our order and dropped off the food). We also felt rushed the entire time. Sadly, the feeling was right. To our surprise, just about an hour into service right after the bill was dropped off at our table (without them asking if we were done) the hostess pretty much kicked us out. She stopped by and asked us to be done in 5 minutes because "other reservations would be arriving soon". Mind you, we also had a reservation, it was only two of us, we had only been there an hour at most, and we were just finishing up a glass a wine we had already poured before paying the bill when she gave us the 5 min time limit. Meanwhile the table next to us was there before we arrived, seemed to be missing half of their party and they didn't even start placing orders until we were just about done eating our meal. We were just two people, the table next to us seemed to have at least 6+ in their party, and others arriving at different times ... Don't think we will go back or recommend this place for that reason, service. I could understand if we were there a long time, not ordering food and just sitting around, being loud (like the table next to us) but this wasn't the case. We were actually hoping to order some more, but we weren't asked/given the opportunity. I have been searching for great sushi places since moving to Chicago. This place is not only affordable, but it's fantastic! Some of the freshest fish I've ever had! I'm very picky when it comes to fish. I've been fortunate enough to eat sushi at the fish markets in Japan and Australia- two of the largest in the world, so I believe I am qualified to say what tastes like fresh fish. What we had: Yellowtail jalapeño ($14) "yellowtail topped with jalapeño and cilantro, and shredded beets with ponzu." It doesn't say it in the description, but this is Sashimi. Spicy, sweet, refreshing. Probably my favorite- which is why I had one at the end of the meal as well. Overall: 10/10 Ocean vinaigrette ($15) "rolled up with yellowtail, scallion, and avocado, topped with tuna, salmon, micro green, and blueberry ponzu vinaigrette." Very fresh. Nice sweetness from the blueberry; it's complementary without being over powering. Overall: 8/10 Acapulco ($10) "yellowtail, super white tuna, and avocado, harmonizing with the pungent flavor of cilantro jalapeño and house Mayo." Very mild. Fresh. Mostly creamy- somewhat from the mayo, but also from the white tuna and avocado. Not spicy at all. I didn't taste the cilantro or the jalapeño. I think this would be amazing served with ponzu tho, so I dunked it in the ponzu leftover from my first dish. Overall: 7/10 Tequila ($16) "One of the great choices for fresh taste. Tuna, yellowtail, cilantro, avocado, jalapeño, and house mayo wrapped in green soybean sheet, with generous drops of lime and chili oil." Fresh and spicy! Make sure you squirt the lime on it, it adds a depth of flavor. My boyfriend's second favorite roll. I like it, don't get me wrong, but the chili oil is more forward than the lime, so I needed to dunk this in some ponzu as well to balance it out. I might have been able to do the same if I'd asked for more limes. Overall: 8/10 Meguan ($12) "tasteful pleasure permeated with tropical vibes! Mango, tuna, and avocado, balanced top of mango and chili paste, drizzled with honey miso sauce and scallions." My boyfriends favorite and my second favorite. The mango is very much the forward flavor, but that sweetness is balanced by the spiciness of the chili. Overall: 9/10 Rollapop ($11) "tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and jalapeño, wrapped in cucumber, and sprinkled with basil ponzu sauce." Very light, basil forward. Not great after the mango. Would be better as an appetizer bc it's refreshing. I know I sounds like a broken record, but in my opinion this would be better with a different sauce, perhaps ponzu or even a yuzu drizzle, or yuzu koshu. I feel like the basil is almost overpowering and out of place with the rest of the dishes. If this was shiso, rather than basil, that would be amazing! Overall: 5/10 read more

The vibe inside is cool as they play EDM music. They accommodated my party of 10 with no problem. They have a huge list of sushi and maki roll selection We ordered almost one of each and everything was delicious. The sashimi and all their fish items tasted super fresh and buttery. The server was friendly and accommodating, however, it took a while for our food to come out. Our food came out at all different times, to the point where it didn't make sense for us to wait for everyone to get their food to start eating. Some of us had finished our meals And some of us were still waiting for our food. Hence, only 4 stars. Besides the wait, the food was really good and fresh and the price point was just right. Somethings that I care about a lot when it comes to sushi restaurant are cleanliness, authenticity, and prices. I do not mind paying a lot for very high quality sushi, but if I want something delivered, I want them to be affordable. I also want them to not get me sick and taste good. Komorebi was actually my third choice after after unsuccessful attempts to dine elsewhere. I'm not a believer of fate, but I'm glad I found my way here. To be fair, we walked shortly after they opened for the day. I loathe imitation crab, generally avoid cream cheese and I don't think fruit belongs in sushi. so many great reviews but I'm honestly disappointed :( the sushi took some time to come out which I guess made sense because there was a lot of people... but the sushi was mid.. tasted like ayce sushi quality which is unfortunate., and the rolls literally one end had no fish it was just rice (blurry pic in my review oops) and there was another end that was just avocado when it was salmon avocado.. felt a little skimped on.
