On our way to Aqua dolce from Long Beach, we made a stop at this cute little restaurant established in 1931. It was the name that attracted us to it but little did we know this is where they filmed the Pepsi commercial with Cindy Crawford at a gas station!! Hometown cooking at its best. Everybody knew everybody. Our waitress, Miss Emily, was on it with the coffee refills, checking in on us to make sure the food was correct. The buffalo burger patty was juicy and tasted like a regular burger patty My omelette was filled proportionately with mushroom and cheese. Let me start off with saying our hostess/server was awesome! We have been trying to get our here for a long time. We live in SCV and are very familiar with all the long-time restaurants but have never made it to Halfway House Cafe. We pass by it everytime we head out to Agua Dulce and it always seems busy so we finally made a point to stop in for breakfast. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and given any our table choice. The coffee was very fresh and we were given plenty of time to review the extensive menu. There is plenty of seating inside including the typical coffee shop counter seats which seemed to have many regulars seated. The parking is a dirt lot with parking in front and behind the restaurant with a back entrance. The restrooms were clean as well. We ordered the pancake sandwich which was the day's special and the Halfway House Super Breakfast which included 2 Strips of Bacon, Two Sausage Links, Half Slice of Ham, Three eggs, One Pancake and bisquits and gravy. A crazy amount of food. Everything was good. I would describe it as typical diner food in a diner setting which is not really our go-to restaurant, however we did enjoy the service and food very much. Wow, things have changed....for the worse! I hadn't been here in a long time, and decided to have some breakfast, hoping it lived up to my past, great experiences. All I got was a cup of coffee and nasty attitude from the waitress. After waiting over 15 minutes to have my order taken, she proceeds to take the orders of customers that came in after us. When we told her we were ready to order, she barked "it's only me today, I'll be right with you." It felt deliberate when she then took yet another customer's order. Paid for our drinks and left. I've been coming to Halfway House Cafe with my husband for the last decade, and it's easily one of our favorite spots. Halfway House is an old diner located in Canyon Country right off Sierra Highway. It's tucked away from a lot of the noise and busyness of the city, which makes it feel like a nice little escape. We love coming here for the food, the coffee, and the staff, who we absolutely adore. I usually order their beef bowl or one of their BLT sandwiches with coffee, while my husband usually goes for a burger or soup. The diner has an old Western feel, which my husband especially loves since he's a cowboy. The walls are covered with celebrity photos and autographs, since the restaurant has also been used for filming, which adds to the character of the place. The food is great, the company is great, and it's nice to still have diners like this around. Halfway House Cafe will always be one of our favorite local spots. Only downside is that they're only open between 7am - 3pm, and closed on Monday's only unless the place is being used for filming. read more

It's been probably over a decade since I've dined at Halfway Cafe, but as a kid, teen, and college student, we'd come for breakfast all the time! I loved coming back with my mom and husband, this time for lunch. It was a great dose of nostalgia as everything was just as I remembered it. Our waitress, Ally, was beyond friendly and offered great service. Since we got there close-ish to closing and it was a little slow, we even had the chance to chat with Ally and became friends! Only can a little place like Halfway Cafe create friendships :) The food was delicious, as always. I opted for a club sandwich which was huge and stacked full of meat. The thick fries were also good; my husband was more than happy to take some off my plate since I was getting so full haha. My husband had the pastrami sandwich and thought it was pretty good; he is a bit of a pastrami snob and had hoped it had a little more meat, but he was happy with the overall flavor and how lean the meat was. My mom had the BLT and thoroughly enjoyed it. Halfway House Cafe will always be a nostalgic place for me and I'm so glad I got to enjoy it again! We gave this place another try since the last time we came, the kitchen wasn't working. We came on a Thursday. Not busy at all. We were greeted right away. You can sit wherever you want. They have really cute bar seating but we opted for a table instead. To start We ordered a glass of their fresh squeezed orange juice. I don't know where they get their oranges from, But this orange juice was very delicious! My husband ordered the country fried steak with the biscuit and gravy , and I ordered their French toast special. The breading on the country fried steak kept falling off. And the steak tasted a little off. The biscuits were very dry and the gravy lacked flavor. Mine was okay as well. French toast could have used some cinnamon. Eggs were cooked to perfection. But the bacon was very dry. I decided to add hash browns to my breakfast and those were okay as well. Overall, it was an good experience. Service being a factor. I just wish the food tasted better. My boyfriend saw this diner while driving passed towards our motel stay from a fun trip at Magic Mountain and I had to do a double take. We went there for breakfast and all the waitresses were witty and welcoming, not to mention the hilarious signage that made the dining experience worthwhile. I told my boyfriend "hey that sign reminds me of you: If my mouth doesn't say it, my face definitely will" and he looked at me with muderous eyes but unapologetic admission. Forgot to give us menus. The skinny younger nicer one ran around taking food orders and doing everything. When my friend tried to stop the older unattractive one,she looked at her and said they only have one server and to ask her. 2nd time in there and we get very unfriendly vibes. Established in 1931 the Halfway House Café sits on the Sierra Highway in one of the most northern parts of Los Angeles County. It's just down the road from Animal Tracks, which is a wonderful animal rescue and rehab society. This little country diner has been in many famous commercials and I am sure in a few movies/shows as well. It feels like you are stepping back in time because it is located literally right off the desolate main road. It has a dirt lot for parking and looks like something you would see in an old West town. Inside looks like you would expect from the outside and is a great throwback to the black-and-white days of old Hollywood when Route 66 was fully operational. Our server was very polite, and everything that we ordered came out very fast. They have large sized portions and pricing is fair. There is plenty of parking available out front and inside is larger than it looks from the outside, so there will be many tables to choose from. For my first visit, I started off with a cup of coffee, which is what I always do and really enjoyed this blend. It had a great medium roast taste and was very strong. For my meal, I chose the Eggs Benedict and added avocado. I thought it was honestly really good because the ham was particularly tasty and thicker than you usually get. You can tell that it is a higher quality meat than you would get at some other diners around town. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I honestly really enjoyed my breakfast and part of the fun was actually getting to this restaurant. I live in Marina Del Rey so it is quite a drive from where I am from, but that made it exciting because I got to see some roads and sites that I have never seen before on my way to breakfast. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the Santa Clarita area or to anyone that is willing to take a road trip for a great breakfast spot. read more

We went to the Halfway House on a Saturday morning. While it was busy, we were still able to get a table for 4 without waiting. It had been 30+ years since the last time was there. But it was still the same as I remembered it. It was comfortable and welcoming. The service was prompt, professional, and friendly despite how busy they were. The food came out quickly and was exactly how we ordered it. We all had breakfast and it was very good. I really enjoyed the Deluxe omelette that I ordered. My only complaint is that it was loud in there and the acoustics suck if it is packed. But it did quiet down after a few folks left. From the outside one would not be faulted in assuming this place was closed 25+ years ago. Food was fine - the corned beef hash seemed like it was from the can and the burgers pre-formed and frozen (I get it - it's a lot of work and saves them time). The service was quick and friendly, the staff was also quite attentive. The kitschy signs on the wall in the restaurant as well as in the restroom kind of gave a 'polite right wing' vibe, which sure maybe some might say is 'trying to be funny' and others might call the sentiments a relic that should be left in the past (case in point, the men's restroom had a sign with the 'top 10 reasons men prefer guns over women'). It's otherwise clean and well maintained inside. Ended up stopping by because it was super close to The Gentle Barn. The overall I'd say would be a solid C+. read more

I was craving breakfast, and this place delivered! Not only is it a historical place, but also has a list of shows and movies on the back of the menu, that were actually filmed here. Basically kind of in the middle of nowhere in a sense. Along sierra highway, as we were looking for a place to have breakfast before wine tasting. It's not a big spot but does have a good amount of seating. A long table top bar with seating to one side when you walk in and a couple of tables on the other side. Friendly staff which is always a good thing. It also seemed like a neighborhood type of place as the people seemed to be locals and knew each other. Menu, you have your traditional breakfast dishes as well as lunch item. Believe they only open till 3 or so. We had breakfast which was quite nice and potion was quite big. Walked in and was told to take a "clean" table aggressively. Quickly saw that the only unoccupied tables were not clean, so we took the table that was least dirty, and after a few minutes, she comes over, and says "yeah this is not a clean table". Well this was the least dirty table, thanks. Then as she's wiping it down with a dirty rag, she says aggressively "Can you lift your menu?!!". Apparently didn't hear her the first time. After many years of just living down the street from Halfway House Cafe, my hubby and I finally decided to give them a try on NY Day. We drove up and there was plenty of parking and made our way inside. We were greeted with smiles all around and seated within 2mins of arriving. The menu is straight to the point and their services is on point. My hubby decided to go with an omelet and I decided to go with my classic, hamburger patty, eggs over-easy, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Everything is was perfect! I gotta also mention that their coffee is super basic but its the best damn coffee I've ever tasted!! Oh, and all their OJ is freshly squeezed so get the cup of OJ or even better, get a MIMOSA!!! I read about the Halfway house Cafe! Ok, twist my arm. I know that's where a Cindy Crawford Pepsi commercial was filmed back in the 90's. I like ole historical places - especially one's that sell food. The HHC really is halfway to somewhere. Just joking, but it is in a remote location in Santa Clarita. It is well worth the drive. The food -- I had a Buffalo Burger one day, and a regular cheeseburger another, was scrumptious. I thought it'd be greasy diner food -- not saying there's anything wrong with that. Well, it wasn't. Both burgers were cooked to perfection! And the service was exceptional. The waitresses, Ally one day and Janell the next, were top notch. They were friendly, and with just enough of a spicy attitude. I don't mean that in a bad way, they just spoke like humans, not robots. You''l love them! And I cant thank Janell enough. She went out of her way to make my little daughter a strawberry smoothie. I distracted my daughter and drank a lot of it.. Ehh, sue me! haha.. Another feature to miss with the HHC is the wall of celebrities who've frequented the establishment. Eddie Murphy, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Clint Eastwood, Carmen Elektra and many others.
