I've been coming to Halfway House Cafe with my husband for the last decade, and it's easily one of our favorite spots. Halfway House is an old diner located in Canyon Country right off Sierra Highway. It's tucked away from a lot of the noise and busyness of the city, which makes it feel like a nice little escape. We love coming here for the food, the coffee, and the staff, who we absolutely adore. I usually order their beef bowl or one of their BLT sandwiches with coffee, while my husband usually goes for a burger or soup. The diner has an old Western feel, which my husband especially loves since he's a cowboy. The walls are covered with celebrity photos and autographs, since the restaurant has also been used for filming, which adds to the character of the place. The food is great, the company is great, and it's nice to still have diners like this around. Halfway House Cafe will always be one of our favorite local spots. Only downside is that they're only open between 7am - 3pm, and closed on Monday's only unless the place is being used for filming.

It's been probably over a decade since I've dined at Halfway Cafe, but as a kid, teen, and college student, we'd come for breakfast all the time! I loved coming back with my mom and husband, this time for lunch. It was a great dose of nostalgia as everything was just as I remembered it. Our waitress, Ally, was beyond friendly and offered great service. Since we got there close-ish to closing and it was a little slow, we even had the chance to chat with Ally and became friends! Only can a little place like Halfway Cafe create friendships :) The food was delicious, as always. I opted for a club sandwich which was huge and stacked full of meat. The thick fries were also good; my husband was more than happy to take some off my plate since I was getting so full haha. My husband had the pastrami sandwich and thought it was pretty good; he is a bit of a pastrami snob and had hoped it had a little more meat, but he was happy with the overall flavor and how lean the meat was. My mom had the BLT and thoroughly enjoyed it. Halfway House Cafe will always be a nostalgic place for me and I'm so glad I got to enjoy it again! Next time we visit my parents, we'll make it a point to come for breakfast.

Went to Halfway House Café for a "quick" breakfast... big mistake Got the Halfway House Super Breakfast and now I'm stuck craving it again. Everything tasted great, portions were huge--very disrespectful to my self-control. Ambience was way too nice and chill, and the service? Annoyingly amazing. The host and staff were super friendly with top-tier customer service. Guess I'm forced to come back and "try" the rest of the menu.

On the very outskirts of town you will find this wonderful diner. It is a sparkling classic diner, originating in 1931! Classic interior, with very funny vintage signs all around. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with such friendliness, that you immediately want to be a regular. We came for breakfast and ordered a simple pancake breakfast. It was delicious! Everything farm fresh and cooked to order. A must visit if you're on this side of town. I look forward to becoming a regular!

We gave this place another try since the last time we came, the kitchen wasn't working. We came on a Thursday. Not busy at all. We were greeted right away. You can sit wherever you want. They have really cute bar seating but we opted for a table instead. To start We ordered a glass of their fresh squeezed orange juice. I don't know where they get their oranges from, But this orange juice was very delicious! My husband ordered the country fried steak with the biscuit and gravy , and I ordered their French toast special. The breading on the country fried steak kept falling off. And the steak tasted a little off. The biscuits were very dry and the gravy lacked flavor. Mine was okay as well. French toast could have used some cinnamon. Eggs were cooked to perfection. But the bacon was very dry. I decided to add hash browns to my breakfast and those were okay as well. Overall, it was an good experience. Service being a factor. I just wish the food tasted better. Thank you to the wonderful server. It looked like she was the only one working the floor that day. Great customer service.

Not too bad but still a pricey place for breakfast in my opinion. Not very big servings. Good food though, good quality, just not amazing to me to where it makes sense to come here often. Service kinda sucked this time, it took forever to order our food. They were busy but also understaffed. Which they shouldn't be for a Saturday morning. Love the inside and outside of this place. Definitely a cool atmosphere and perfect vibe for breakfast/diner

A gem! We came in after a day of exploring Vasquez rocks! The service is good, given that there's only one server for the whole place. The ambiance and long history of the cafe alone is worth checking out!

The instant we walked in we were greeted and sat at a great table. We put in our order and did not have to wait long at all. The food was plentiful and good. Coffee cup never went empty and both our server and hostess were amazing. If in the area apart from the nostalgic place it is the food and service are amazing.

Established in 1931 the Halfway House Café sits on the Sierra Highway in one of the most northern parts of Los Angeles County. It's just down the road from Animal Tracks, which is a wonderful animal rescue and rehab society. This little country diner has been in many famous commercials and I am sure in a few movies/shows as well. It feels like you are stepping back in time because it is located literally right off the desolate main road. It has a dirt lot for parking and looks like something you would see in an old West town. Inside looks like you would expect from the outside and is a great throwback to the black-and-white days of old Hollywood when Route 66 was fully operational. Our server was very polite, and everything that we ordered came out very fast. They have large sized portions and pricing is fair. There is plenty of parking available out front and inside is larger than it looks from the outside, so there will be many tables to choose from. For my first visit, I started off with a cup of coffee, which is what I always do and really enjoyed this blend. It had a great medium roast taste and was very strong. For my meal, I chose the Eggs Benedict and added avocado. I thought it was honestly really good because the ham was particularly tasty and thicker than you usually get. You can tell that it is a higher quality meat than you would get at some other diners around town. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I honestly really enjoyed my breakfast and part of the fun was actually getting to this restaurant. I live in Marina Del Rey so it is quite a drive from where I am from, but that made it exciting because I got to see some roads and sites that I have never seen before on my way to breakfast. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the Santa Clarita area or to anyone that is willing to take a road trip for a great breakfast spot.

The Bronco Burrito was soooo delicious that I had to have it two days in a row. Let me explain the flavor experience. When you bite the burrito you taste the crunchy buttery eggs and tots, then the flavor mixes with the sharpness of the cheese, and the savory of the bacon bits incorporates, then, the magic happens. The pickled jalapeño gives an acidic edge that rips right through the other flavors and contrasts and blends stupendously. That really is the magic, which finishes with a sweet creamy after note from the avocado and sauce. Truly a wonderful addition to my Breakfast Burrito Hall of Fame. You have been informed, and hopefully inspired enough to go try it on your own. If not, you're only selling your self short. Now Go!!!!

It was pretty busy for it to be so early. The weight staff was very friendly and very warm and welcoming. Every single person we encountered. We ordered takeout. We had the caveman's platter and the links platter. As sides we had brussels sprouts, mac & cheese, cowboy beans and the plates came with cornbread. I was bummed they did not have collard greens and they did not have potato salad. Apparently collard greens are no longer being served. They've not yet updated their menu. And the potato salad we were advised that a large party had come before us, so there was no more. Which is crazy sad it was only noon and I think they open like at nine or 10 AM. So I kind of felt like we had to resort to what was left and based on how much food we ordered, we had six sides we had to select. Brisket vs Tri Tip- I'm a fatty meat kind of girl. So I definitely preferred the tri-tip. Which had more flavor than the brisket. Now, do not give me wrong by that statement. Because both meats are very good. You can taste that smoke for sure. But the one that you could eat without any sauce would be the tri-tip. The ribs were excellent. The barbecue links were good too. You only get two in the plate and they cut them up in little pieces. But they're good. They weren't overly spicy and they still had some good snap to them. Meats: 9.5/10 The barbecue sauce is a no. It is heavy on the vinegar so bring your own barbecue sauce. The brussels sprouts were I'd say 7/10. They weren't anything too fancy there's kind of like a balsamic on it. They're good but they're not amazing. It could've probably used like some bacon bits or something in it. I don't know. The mac & cheese is a no. It's literally large mushy noodles and watery cheese sauce.. and the cheese sauce is bland. 3/10 The cowboy beans were OK. It's more like a chili for sure. There's a lot going on in them but again they're pretty good. They lean more on the tangy side. When I say tangy, it's probably vinegar and ketchupy if I had to pinpoint the tastes. 6/10. The cornbread is a no. It's more flour based than corn. It falls apart pretty easy. It's kind of dense. At any rate, I'd prefer Jiffy over whatever they're using. 4/10

The stone facade of this nearly 100-year old tavern implies major staying power, and the dark wood, very old-style interior design backs that up in spades. This place has seen many days and nights, and the staff seems to have seen every customer many times before. My server, Terry, immediately pegged me as a newbie, greeting me with a big hello and making suggestions about the food. They've got most of the usual roadside tavern options on the menu (burgers and club sandwiches, eggs and omelets, etc.), but the top draw here is the Tri-Tip and Pork Shoulder, both of which are smoked on site, and served as BBQ plates or 2 sizes of sandwiches. I ordered the small Tri-Tip Sandwich, paired with fries (though they have several other side options you can upgrade to). The meat is thinly shaved, moist and tender despite not being pink. It's glazed with teriyaki sauce and resembles the kind of roast beef sandwich you'd get in Buffalo, NY (beef on weck) or at a place like Brennan & Carr in Brooklyn. They also put mayo on the bun, and I could have lived without that (it's not necessary, as the meat is very flavorful, and the smoky accents do stand out nicely). Fries were standard issue, but very properly cooked and salted, arriving hot and crispy. They were great when dipped into the house-made BBQ sauce or the house-made Ranch, both of which came on the side. Over all, the sandwich and fries were a very generous portion, and the larger size (served to someone else nearby) was quite hefty for just $3 more. Now, I didn't see any desserts on display, but I had a feeling this was the kind of place where there might be some homemade sweetness, and I was right -- they had 4 house-baked pies available: Apple, Peach, Cherry, and a mixed berry pie called Fruits Of The Forest, which is what I chose. I could detect cherries, blackberries and rhubarb, but there may have been others in this sweet & sour filling that worked perfectly with the scratch-made crust that was buttery and savory and pretty much a perfect bite from the past. There's also a full bar with a nice selection of liquors and beers. If I didn't have to drive off the mountain and home on I-5, I would have happily spent the afternoon knocking back a few and chatting with the locals, who I'm sure gather here most days after work. This is a fun, fun place, and if you're traveling up the 5, it's worth a detour up the hill to grab some tri-tip and support good people serving the kind of good, scratch cooking you rarely find in a fast food world.
