Went to Halfway House Café for a "quick" breakfast... big mistake Got the Halfway House Super Breakfast and now I'm stuck craving it again. Everything tasted great, portions were huge--very disrespectful to my self-control. Ambience was way too nice and chill, and the service? Annoyingly amazing. The host and staff were super friendly with top-tier customer service. Guess I'm forced to come back and "try" the rest of the menu.

It's been probably over a decade since I've dined at Halfway Cafe, but as a kid, teen, and college student, we'd come for breakfast all the time! I loved coming back with my mom and husband, this time for lunch. It was a great dose of nostalgia as everything was just as I remembered it. Our waitress, Ally, was beyond friendly and offered great service. Since we got there close-ish to closing and it was a little slow, we even had the chance to chat with Ally and became friends! Only can a little place like Halfway Cafe create friendships :) The food was delicious, as always. I opted for a club sandwich which was huge and stacked full of meat. The thick fries were also good; my husband was more than happy to take some off my plate since I was getting so full haha. My husband had the pastrami sandwich and thought it was pretty good; he is a bit of a pastrami snob and had hoped it had a little more meat, but he was happy with the overall flavor and how lean the meat was. My mom had the BLT and thoroughly enjoyed it. Halfway House Cafe will always be a nostalgic place for me and I'm so glad I got to enjoy it again! Next time we visit my parents, we'll make it a point to come for breakfast.

On the very outskirts of town you will find this wonderful diner. It is a sparkling classic diner, originating in 1931! Classic interior, with very funny vintage signs all around. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with such friendliness, that you immediately want to be a regular. We came for breakfast and ordered a simple pancake breakfast. It was delicious! Everything farm fresh and cooked to order. A must visit if you're on this side of town. I look forward to becoming a regular!

We gave this place another try since the last time we came, the kitchen wasn't working. We came on a Thursday. Not busy at all. We were greeted right away. You can sit wherever you want. They have really cute bar seating but we opted for a table instead. To start We ordered a glass of their fresh squeezed orange juice. I don't know where they get their oranges from, But this orange juice was very delicious! My husband ordered the country fried steak with the biscuit and gravy , and I ordered their French toast special. The breading on the country fried steak kept falling off. And the steak tasted a little off. The biscuits were very dry and the gravy lacked flavor. Mine was okay as well. French toast could have used some cinnamon. Eggs were cooked to perfection. But the bacon was very dry. I decided to add hash browns to my breakfast and those were okay as well. Overall, it was an good experience. Service being a factor. I just wish the food tasted better. Thank you to the wonderful server. It looked like she was the only one working the floor that day. Great customer service.

Not too bad but still a pricey place for breakfast in my opinion. Not very big servings. Good food though, good quality, just not amazing to me to where it makes sense to come here often. Service kinda sucked this time, it took forever to order our food. They were busy but also understaffed. Which they shouldn't be for a Saturday morning. Love the inside and outside of this place. Definitely a cool atmosphere and perfect vibe for breakfast/diner

The instant we walked in we were greeted and sat at a great table. We put in our order and did not have to wait long at all. The food was plentiful and good. Coffee cup never went empty and both our server and hostess were amazing. If in the area apart from the nostalgic place it is the food and service are amazing.

A gem! We came in after a day of exploring Vasquez rocks! The service is good, given that there's only one server for the whole place. The ambiance and long history of the cafe alone is worth checking out!

Established in 1931 the Halfway House Café sits on the Sierra Highway in one of the most northern parts of Los Angeles County. It's just down the road from Animal Tracks, which is a wonderful animal rescue and rehab society. This little country diner has been in many famous commercials and I am sure in a few movies/shows as well. It feels like you are stepping back in time because it is located literally right off the desolate main road. It has a dirt lot for parking and looks like something you would see in an old West town. Inside looks like you would expect from the outside and is a great throwback to the black-and-white days of old Hollywood when Route 66 was fully operational. Our server was very polite, and everything that we ordered came out very fast. They have large sized portions and pricing is fair. There is plenty of parking available out front and inside is larger than it looks from the outside, so there will be many tables to choose from. For my first visit, I started off with a cup of coffee, which is what I always do and really enjoyed this blend. It had a great medium roast taste and was very strong. For my meal, I chose the Eggs Benedict and added avocado. I thought it was honestly really good because the ham was particularly tasty and thicker than you usually get. You can tell that it is a higher quality meat than you would get at some other diners around town. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I honestly really enjoyed my breakfast and part of the fun was actually getting to this restaurant. I live in Marina Del Rey so it is quite a drive from where I am from, but that made it exciting because I got to see some roads and sites that I have never seen before on my way to breakfast. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the Santa Clarita area or to anyone that is willing to take a road trip for a great breakfast spot.

There are plenty of tables, with 4 comfortable chairs, and i see they can pull them together for bigger parties.

I was craving breakfast, and this place delivered! Not only is it a historical place, but also has a list of shows and movies on the back of the menu, that were actually filmed here. (My husband was here for the Maverick movie with Tom Cruise). The staff here are SUPER friendly, to the point where it reminds me of the OLD AMERICA. It's not a fake friendliness, it's a real 'FAMILY FEEL' friendliness. They have funny signs all over the place which make you laugh while you wait for your meal.. I would describe this place as -.not just eating a meal, but EXPERIENCING a meal with an atmosphere that feels like HOME! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute here!!!!

From the outside one would not be faulted in assuming this place was closed 25+ years ago. Food was fine - the corned beef hash seemed like it was from the can and the burgers pre-formed and frozen (I get it - it's a lot of work and saves them time). The service was quick and friendly, the staff was also quite attentive. The kitschy signs on the wall in the restaurant as well as in the restroom kind of gave a 'polite right wing' vibe, which sure maybe some might say is 'trying to be funny' and others might call the sentiments a relic that should be left in the past (case in point, the men's restroom had a sign with the 'top 10 reasons men prefer guns over women'). It's otherwise clean and well maintained inside. Ended up stopping by because it was super close to The Gentle Barn. The overall I'd say would be a solid C+.

We ordered the Flying Fried sandwich, avocado toast, and waffles with eggs. The "Fly Sauce" tasted like a basic spicy mayo, the eggs were dry, the brioche bun was dry as well, and the waffles tasted stale. The avocado toast was probably the biggest disappointment; it just wasn't enjoyable at all. I always try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but for the price point, the quality simply wasn't there. Nothing tasted fresh or memorable, and we left feeling underwhelmed. Based on our experience, I don't see what makes this place stand out in a city with so many breakfast options. On the positive side, the staff was kind and welcoming, which is why I'm giving credit where it's due. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but unfortunately, the food was very mediocre.

Chicken, golden brown and well seasoned. Made to order and very tasty! Unfortunately, I can't speak highly of the waffle here at Waffle Love. Chewy, doughy and not quite ready for prime time. It should have stayed in the waffle iron a bit longer. And at a total of $27.00 for this menu item and a bottle of chocolate milk, hardly worth a return visit for me.

I had made a large party reservation over the phone. The worker confirmed the date, time, and party size with me. They even asked for my full name, number, and credit card information. All this just for the reservation to be nonexistent when we arrived. Not only was it an inconvenience, but now I don't know where my card information was left. The manager was willing to accommodate us but we still had to wait 35 min for the table we should've had. But once we sat down, that annoyance was over. It wasn't until we started ordering where things went South. Our server barely checked on us, at one point we didn't even know who our server was anymore. Drink orders were missing or untimely, and the food took FOREVER. There were 2 people in our party who didn't receive their plates until we all finished eating ours. We decided to risk it and order dessert and unfortunately had the same issue. Again, I think there just needs to be more communication within the staff and more employees working. If some changes could be made, I could see myself coming back for happy hour or a Taco Tuesday for drinks and live music. It's cute inside, I just hate wasted potential. SCV needs more gems and this could be one!
