Stopped by on the drive to the Bay Area and it was conveniently located off the freeway. Breakfast was great! We had the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, corned beef hash, kids' pancake combo, and veggie omelet. Corned beef is canned but still was tasty. The food was all fresh, portions were quite large. Parking is a bit of a pain. They have a small lot in the back, driveway is very narrow. Service was excellent, young lady was attentive, welcoming, and friendly. The inside looked clean, cozy and welcoming. But the food fell short, I mean eggs are eggs, bacon was good. My son had the French toast combo and I had the waffle combo. I feel bat about the 2 stars, because it's all going so well until my waffles showed up. I asked for well done, they were not, the flavor was off as if the batter is left uncovered in the fridge or something, maybe it was the margarine (not butter) that did nit melt because they were cold. I live on the outskirts of this area. But we like to come here for breakfast on occasion. Parking is pretty bad. They have about 6 spaces in the back of the restaurant and then street parking, which isn't much. They also have bathrooms that are out behind the restaurant, given its size, which sorry...I'll just hold it. First, service is great. Really great! The staff is always attentive and the owner is often taking your order. I love the homey vibe and knowing that a place like this exists for just the ones who know it exists. While it's small, I've been lucky to never have to wait for a seat. Now, the food is good, but like everything, the prices have gone up and depending on what you order you either feel good about your choice (for portion and value), or you might feel a little gypped. That's not to say that the food you get isn't good, it is. Personally, I feel a basic plate of bacon and eggs shouldn't cost as much as say, a chili Colorado burrito, but I don't run a restaurant and what do I know. All I know is that when my plate comes out I'm like "nice," but it doesn't feel like it was worth $16, but when the table next to me gets their plate I'm thinking, "Wow! I should have got that instead." I find that the portions here are a bit inconsistent. Maybe you don't care. Again, this is not a mark against the service or the food quality...just that you eat with your eyes first and my eyes shed a little tear when my plate arrived. Go, visit, make sure to read the specials, which are a great value and posted on a board above the grill counter (you won't see it otherwise). We always look forward to stopping at Tommie's when we travel from SoCal to NoCal. The food is excellent diner food - fresh and just what it should be. The sandwiches are great, but on our last trip I enjoyed the tuna salad alone it was so good. We start developing a craving for the house-made potato chips as soon as we are nearby. The service is welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The ambiance is of a cheerful small town diner that attracts locals and travelers, so much nicer than the fast food chains that dominate the I-5 freeway. Highly recommend! read more

We stumbled upon this place just randomly which turned out to be quite a good experience. Location wise, it seemed to be in an area somewhat industrial and where trucks come to refuel. There was also a couple of food trucks nearby. A spot where you have to know about it. But beside that, everything was great. Restaurant itself it pretty small but packs a punch. Indoor seating as well as some outdoor patio seating. When we arrived, it seems more like the locals were here. Menu was quite impressive. Tons of breakfast option. Hours are limited, breakfast and lunch. As well as price, really reasonable. Potion of food was quite impressive, you'll get your moneys worth. They had fresh salsa available if needed for your meal. Might if had the worse experience ever with a waiter Service slow and it wasn't busy. Not a big deal tho. Ordered waters and didn't get them. Ordered white toast and wheat toast came out. No big deal Here's the problem I ordered a a side of pancakes $3.50. I was charged $7 he said inflation. Menu hasn't been updated. He look at me and asked me "what do you want me yo do" that he can't change it. I said maybe let someone know that the price is double of what they ordered when ordering. He said "nobody has ever complained". I find charging double then what the menu is charging is hard to believe. After our uncomfortable conversation he looks at me and ask for money. I said I'm still drinking my coffee and not ready yet. He said why did you hand me the folder themZ I said to show you the bill. After I drank my coffee he said I used pancakes in a plural sense and that's why I was charged double. That's pancake was one and pancakes are two. I'm not wasting any energy arguing with this man. Look was good. Love the small town cafe vibe but I won't ever come back because of this man. Was it bad grammar or inflation? Either way you have to treat people with more respect. I saw all of the great pictures and reviews of the country chicken fried steak. But damn I got burned. The waitress was nice and I like her. But either she didn't tell the cook what I asked for or the cook told ignored her. I got a warmer upper of clothes coffee when I still had half a cup of coffee before breakfast was served - but no more coffee after I was served breakfast - so I had zero coffee with my meal. That's not good service and not all very nice and there were no other customers in there. I ordered two ala cart eggs at $1.99 each - I asked for them to have it on a plate - she told me they will get a clam container - but it was such a small portion of eggs and no way that was two eggs! I asked for well done extra crispy hash browns - they were not only not extra crispy - but barely even cooked. Not even as browned as the images that other people posted. So if you may have over looked tommies it is possible. The outside you're like hmmm that place is super janky. There's a food truck in the front and behind there is a tire shop. and you may miss the parking entrance in a blink of an eye. I did, literally crashed into the curb trying to get in. Super small and narrow. Finally made it walked in side and you're shook from how cute it is compared from the outside. We ordered French toast- these were okay regular French toast. Sirloin streak m/r- This was just mehhhh, the meat wasn't very tender or flavorful. Came with side of country potatoes and the potatoes weren't cooked all the way. Side of biscuits and gravy- ehhhhh I'm okay the biscuit tasted store bought and the gravy was little gritty, some pieces couldn't chew. Side of French fries- the fries where thick cut but super sad looking and weren't cooked right. Overall food 2/5, they are family owned it seems and locals enjoy it maybe what we ordered wasn't great choices or the chef wasn't great. Customer service was good, was charged for an extra coffee and pointed it out. Because maybe they charge refills on coffee, but the server accommodated and fixed the wrong charge. So five stars for customer service. Just not a fan of the food. read more

They were honest and upfront said we're not that big inside but they will accommodate best they can. They hooked us up with a good table outside in the shade. We had great service and amazing food. Castaic is a trucker and traveler oasis between here, there, and the other place. Always a lot of people and vehicles, it seems. Tommie's Castaic Cafe is a small and welcome oasis for the hungry. The blushing bride and I drove up here for breakfast. And a very nice and relaxing breakfast it was. Excellent in all ways. A truly 5-star experience. The food and drink were excellent. I'd compare it to good home cooking but it might have been better than that! One special note. The bathrooms are out back, with doors that open to the parking lot. Often that is, ummm, a warning sign. Both bathrooms were spic-and-span clean. A true testament to the attention to detail at this restaurant. read more

Apparently, my boyfriend use to eat breakfast burritos here since the 90s and we decided to give it a try New Years Eve. The indoor dining is super clean, organized and seemed to me that they added new wooden laminate floors which made it super nice. Now, there is also outdoor dining as well and apparently a lunch truck outside of the food as indoors which I thought was pretty clever. The restrooms are clean and out back unlocked. Parking out back can fit maybe 5-6 cars. The dining room had different license plates from different states which was super cute. If you like breakfast burritos and crispy hash browns, they even add onions to the hash browns if you prefer it that way as well. I really like my breakfast burritos with bacon not super fine minced I prefer to taste the bacon. So if you like bacon, you can taste it a little. The burrito was really HOT though and quite enough to feed for 2 people. Also the house salsa is awesome, the mild one is really nice with fresh tomatillos but what I enjoyed was the other one in green shown in the photo. This green sauce is really good as it gives a kick for those who might want a medium salsa now that's just my tastebuds. Also feel free to grab your own ketchup, extra utensils, and yes cholula if needed. The service is typically amount of time to receive a hot plate, maybe 20 mins or 15 minutes wait. With a smile and also asking if you needed anything else and happy with the food, and I find that as an awesome place to check out and order here again :) read more

It's tough to say anything negative about this down-home family-owned American diner with friendly early morning service, except maybe they should be closer to our house. The cooks do everything right with the classic American menu, smoke their own meats, and do a superb house-made salsa. Don't miss the chili verde special, or the high-quality bottomless coffee. After eating at every breakfast place in the Santa Clarita Valley, I cannot help but return here. Easily the best breakfast place regarding the food, portions, service, and prices. The service here is stellar; they normally have one person working all their tables, but due to the small size of the location, there is never a moment when you are left waiting for any reason. My favorite dish would have to be "The Mess" with a side of biscuits and gravy. The portions are so large, and it's perfect to reheat for the next morning. You should also get a side of their homemade verde salsa, easily the best salsa I have had in my life. The only downside is they won't share the recipe. We were staying in the area and this was in walking distance from the hotel, it was a pleasant hole in the wall! The waitress was so kind, we walked in and they had us pick where we'd like. We had iced coffee, delicious, and both of our meals were full of flavor. Waitress checked in on us and made sure we always had what we needed. She asked if we wanted to take our coffee to-go when we finished, that was a nice touch! We were so hungry after hiking and we were looking for a place to eat on our way home. We found this place on yelp. The cafe was a great choice to stop and eat. It's a family owned business. I was very impressed. The server Renee was so polite and very attentive to our needs. The food was fantastic! I ordered the loaded hash browns with eggs. The avocado salsa was the bomb! Stopped by on my way home from a road trip Saturday August 6 around 9:30 am because of the 4.5 stars and was highly disappointed The Place was understaffed with only one waitress attending customers inside the restaurant and outside the patio We waited for a while before the waitress was finally able to get our order A group that came after my husband and I got their food first and they were a party of 4 while we were only 2 The tables were "cleaned" but the grease stains were evident on them I saw them clean every table with the same dirty rag The waitress kept checking up on everyone but us, I'm not sure if it was because we were Hispanic and everyone else was white or just a coincidence but service was horrible Once the food came it was unseasoned Fries had no salt, the meat tasted bland and on top of that it looked like the cook wanted to "season" the burger with mustard because all that yellow stuff on my burger is mustard not cheese (white Swiss burger) The waitress offered everyone a drink to go when they asked for to go boxes or the check but she seemed to have "forgotten" to offer us some until it was time to tip as I had already paid and my husband had walked out with our baby Overall service was horrible Please do better My blood was boiling as I left that place I felt discriminated and robbed of my money I do not recommend this place and hope nobody else experiences what I did that day read more

What a great place to visit! Stopped in here as I told my hiking partner to find us a small diner where we could warm up with some comfort food. The atmosphere is old time small town and the family staff are outstanding. A big plus for the house made avocado sauce/salsa, goes great with the eggs over home fries. What amazing surprise. Who'd a thunk, in little old mountain town Castaic I would have one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Ordered the Sampler...which had a sample of their three side meats (Sausage, Bacon, Ham). Wow. Seriously, in every case, wonderful versions of each (think of any typical breakfast place you've visited...then know you are not getting those crappy versions at Tommies) and cooked to perfection. As were the over-medium eggs and hash browns....and yeah, I went for a single pancake. Again, pancakes are a wild card, anywhere from a shriveled dollar size to gummy chewy comforter where size transcends flavor. Not so this pancake. Was perfect. Kudos to the cook on all. I'll add one bit of feedback...specifically to the cook: always use different spatulas when handling different products. I could tell that he must have used the back side of a spatula that had been used on a spicy dish...to tap on my pancake...not only leaving a light "rust" coloration...but left the distinct taste of hot spice along with. I drowned it with enough syrup to overcome, and didn't want to take a star away for the faux pas, just promise me that you take this as the constructive criticism intended. Lastly, Rene my server made lemonade from lemons on how he handled an awkward initial exchange with the outgoing server/greeter. I'll leave it at that...but Rene "gets it." Thank you. read more

I was at the Country Girl Saloon (see my review of such) and was getting hungry. I like going to local diners with RVing and wanted to check this place out. I was told they closed at 2pm, but I could order and take it back to the bar to eat. I ordered the pastrami sandwich and CRISPY fries. Pastrami was delish and the fries were actually crispy, even after being in a container for a few mins. The only complain, and it's a tricky one, is that the bottom bread was sopping wet from the pastrami. This is very typical and could hardly blame them. I think restaurants need to set the pastrami on paper towels for 10 - 15 seconds before putting it on the bread and maybe it won't be so bad. Not sure. But that's the only reason I held a star back. Watch out, Stupendous Food Ahead!! Out on a ride Sunday morning and stopped by on a whim. We struck gold!! Seating is outside due to the menace, and we had to wait 39 minutes. No big deal as the weather was perfect. We took advantage of the wait to review the menu. It was going to either be "The Mess" or Loaded Hash Browns. Went with the Loaded Hash Browns, and wow! My daughter choose hash browns and a waffles. The food is absolutely fantastic! Hit the spot to power us through another couple hours in the motorcycle!
