The appeal with this location is that it is another option for the communities on this end of town to have a sit down place to eat. But unfortunately this business has some work to do in the way of food quality. It's unfortunate that the chicken in both dishes we ordered tasted as though it was hours old and everything was extremely salty. The iced tea we ordered was fresh and tasty. The ambiance in the restaurant was nice and everything was clean. But they did have the AC pumping a little high so you might need a sweater. Our waitress was very sweet and in tune with our experience. She did inquire on if we had any problems (we try not to complain but it must have been written on our face). We told her about our food and she apologized and mentioned that other people's feedback on the food as been hit or miss. She gave us a free brownie and off we went. We haven't had the best food experience at the other BBD either so we probably won't revisit either location. read more

The service and food were great with attentive and friendly staff. The chicken pot pie was a bit overpowered with pepper and mushrooms but was really good otherwise. My husband also enjoyed his steak dinner. They were out of a few things like the prime rib my husband was really looking forward to as well as some sides like fries and something else I can't remember which was a little disappointing. It was our first time eating at Black Bear Diner, and we absolutely loved it! We had the taco salad and the meatloaf with onion rings--both were delicious. We're usually not a big fan of taco shells, but the one here was so good that we finished the entire (huge!) shell. I just had the most delicious strawberry waffles ever! It's fluffy , light and crispy served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. We got seated super fast and food was ready very soon too. Tonight my husband was craving Meatloaf and of course we went to the closest place in town that we know has delicious meatloaf. We got there and Juan assisted us and from the beginning he was kind and efficient. He sat us and took our drink and food order quickly. He was so kind to get us our drinks and take all the orders around us even though the restaurant seemed short staffed. Our food was delicious, thanks to the chefs. Zero stars if I could. Have never been to a black bear diner and never will ever again after this experience. Host sat us down within a prompt time because there was only 5 groups of people in the whole place. Although she didn't say anything and looked high. Waitress took 15min to get to us. We placed our order and she didn't even ask how I wanted my eggs or potato's. No big deal I'm not a picky person like that but still ! 35 min later we finally got our food and started eating. Manager only went around to the people of his race and asked how it was. After my first two bites of getting my food I found a hair in the eggs. Tried to flag down the waitress for 10 more min and finally had to bring the food up the counter. I pointed at the hair and said I wouldn't like to eat this. The waitress stated that was not a hair so I had to pick up with my fingers and show her. The waitress stated that it was a hair and asked if I wanted another plate. I stated no and just want the check to leave because my wife lost her appetite as well. As the waitress brought the food to the cooks they all started laughing. WTF. After no check for 10 more min we went to the counter to pay. She took off the hairy food order and gave a 10 percent discount for a bunch of food that have not been eaten. My family and I were excited to see another sit down spot finally open near our home and it's safe to say we'll be returning customers! We were apprehensive at first because of the experience we have had over at the Valencia location, but the Canyon Country Black Bear Diner did not disappoint! The menu is pretty standard in terms of what you would at a regular diner style restaurant so all the breakfast staples are there, along with some great choices for lunch and dinner. My wife and daughter ordered some breakfast items and I had the Papa Burger which was fantastic. I'm not used to having thick cut bacon on my burger, I believe this was my first time trying it on one and it was amazing! The service was nothing short of fantastic! Nate was our server and he was ultra attentive, friendly, and made sure we got our food at a reasonable amount of time and always checked up on us for refills or anything we might need. We will be coming back again and so glad this opened up! I hope the enthusiasm and especially service is consistent since I'm sure everyone on staff wanted to go an extra mile in service for their first weekend service! I don't doubt they'll keep up that energy, the bar was pretty low for the Valencia location and everyone in the Canyon Country Black Bear Diner cleared the hurdle and then some! We had the pleasure of dining here today for lunch. While I've visited this location several times before, this was my husband's first time joining me. We were warmly greeted and seated by our server, Maria, who also promptly took our drink orders. From the beginning, she was friendly, attentive, and professional. It appeared she was the only server covering our section at the time, as another staff member seemed to be on break. Despite being busy, Maria never missed a beat--ensuring we were well taken care of throughout our entire visit. When we arrived, we spoke with a couple that visits Black Bear all over California. They asked where the health department score was. It was not posted. They were ahead of us and told us to go ahead cause if they could not provide the score, they were going to leave. I am guessing that they were not able to provide cause the couple left. Yelp shows 6/2025 score A, but the health department does more than just once a year so not sure how current the last score is. Food not bad. Read reviews ahead of time so I knew to order my bacon crispy, which it was. It makes no sense on the crispy fried steak. Regular order is 5 ounces, 2 eggs, hash browns and toast. $18.99. The lumber jack one was 10 ounces, 3 eggs, HB and 3 pieces of toast for 1 dollar more. Both our eggs were over medium and the whites were still undercooked. Pancakes were good but I have never seen pancakes with no butter offered. The toast had a quarter size spot in the middle like a knife just put a spot of butter. Rest of toast was dry. Also, they need to adjust the toaster. The bread looked so blonde that I questioned if it was toasted. The chicken fried steak and gravy was very good. Hash browns needed more time cause the inside was not cooked enough. Would order again but ask extra crispy. Would probably try again in the future. read more
