Ham & 2-Egg* Ham & Cheese Omelette
Thor M.

The service was very good. Our Server was attentive, professional, and friendly. She checked up on us regularly. The food was mediocre at best. We had breakfast. I had a ham & Cheese omelette. The omelette was ok. Not bad, but not great. But the hash browns were dry and tasteless. The restaurant was clean and comfortable.

I arrived towards closing but was not rushed out. It had a paddy melt which was cooked to proper temp as a side I had soup which while fresh tasted like Campbell's. Food was hot but it was under the heat lamp for 4 minutes. Since the resturant had only ne other person. The food should not have waited. Things to know they close at 9 pm so early.

Decent food. Quick service. It's a good option when you don't really have an idea what you want to eat but need to fill your belly!

The appeal with this location is that it is another option for the communities on this end of town to have a sit down place to eat. But unfortunately this business has some work to do in the way of food quality. It's unfortunate that the chicken in both dishes we ordered tasted as though it was hours old and everything was extremely salty. The iced tea we ordered was fresh and tasty. The ambiance in the restaurant was nice and everything was clean. But they did have the AC pumping a little high so you might need a sweater. Our waitress was very sweet and in tune with our experience. She did inquire on if we had any problems (we try not to complain but it must have been written on our face). We told her about our food and she apologized and mentioned that other people's feedback on the food as been hit or miss. She gave us a free brownie and off we went. We haven't had the best food experience at the other BBD either so we probably won't revisit either location.

The service and food were great with attentive and friendly staff. The chicken pot pie was a bit overpowered with pepper and mushrooms but was really good otherwise. My husband also enjoyed his steak dinner. They were out of a few things like the prime rib my husband was really looking forward to as well as some sides like fries and something else I can't remember which was a little disappointing. The place itself is freshly renovated and looks very cute. It's nice to have a BBD close to home and bring back some nostalgia

It was our first time eating at Black Bear Diner, and we absolutely loved it! We had the taco salad and the meatloaf with onion rings--both were delicious. We're usually not a big fan of taco shells, but the one here was so good that we finished the entire (huge!) shell. Our server, Kevin, was exceptionally kind and warm, which made our experience even better. We enjoyed everything so much and will definitely be back!

I've been to the black bear diner plenty of times at their other locations. This is the first time I leave a review for this business. Food is always great, overall had a great time and enjoyed our food...

I just had the most delicious strawberry waffles ever! It's fluffy , light and crispy served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. We got seated super fast and food was ready very soon too. And did I say it was fresh ! Absolutely love the waitstaff they gave us a free chocky pie. The best !!

The food was great and came out very quickly. All of the staff was very friendly as well. We will definitely be coming back

Happy Cub Cake (470 cals.) - note: my daughter moved one of the strawberries before I took the photo

Some of our longtime favorites there were the chili, chili spaghetti, French dip, and chicken fried steak, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. The chili spaghetti recipe has clearly changed. The flavor now feels very bland and lifeless compared to before. I also ordered the French dip and the meat was dry and tough. Overall, the food quality just doesn't seem to match what this café was previously known for. It also feels like the restaurant is moving away from its original café identity and shifting toward more of a Hispanic/Latin-style menu. Nothing wrong with that direction if done well, but longtime customers like us who enjoyed the original menu and flavors we're very much you kidding me running too fast disappointed by the changes. Based on our experience with two dishes that used to be favorites of ours, we honestly have no desire to come back and try the other items we once enjoyed, including the chicken fried steak. The experience left us expecting that many of the other recipes have likely changed as well, and that the same flavor and quality we used to love is no longer there. Lastly, prices have increased and the environment felt very dead which adds to the disappointment.

It's been here for about that long, too, so I am sorry I missed it in the past. This is a family-run place and I am pretty certain the woman who greeted us at the door is one of the owners. We had a reservation and were able to sit at a comfortable booth, as we were a group. The entire time we were there, I was looking around at all the vintage details they have placed in every inch of this place to give you the feeling that you are in a '50s roadside diner. The menu reflects that too. As someone who grew up on the East Coast where diners were on every corner, I appreciated this quick trip down memory lane. The service was very good. We came at an in-between time deliberately because Rte. 66 fills up at the most popular times. When we arrived, entertainment was just wrapping up and it seems they have a variety of talents on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays -- a nice perk. There is a huge parking lot so that's easy. You can sit outside or in, but in is the place to be in my opinion. Our server, Steven, was very helpful. In fact, he apologized that the floor was not spotless because a large group had literally just left and (I am assuming), a bunch of kids made quite a mess (hey parents, where were you?). They tried to tidy up without disturbing us. Everyone working there is super friendly as befits this place. The menu is vast and the food is good. It is very credible diner fare. I cannot remember the music but I think it was on -- we were too busy eating and talking to notice. The tab was very reasonable too. I would not change a thing. This is a genre spot and a very good one. Worth the trip, folks. I am sure we will be back.

The diner has a fascinating history, with Otto Lindsel bringing his lumberjack cooking skills to Southern California in the 1970s, particularly known for his enormous pancakes. Unfortunately, the food was rather average and failed to impress. What truly dampened my experience was the peculiar and somewhat tiresome service from the waitstaff. Upon being promptly seated, the hostess quickly brought me the beverage I requested, which was a good start. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. When my brother arrived and we were discussing what to order, we noticed that our server was nowhere to be found. This was surprising, especially considering there was only one other family in the diner at the time. After waiting for about 6 minutes, we flagged down another server, who informed us that he wasn't our assigned waiter but offered to take our order. His demeanor was unusually formal, and the whole interaction left us feeling perplexed. We wondered if it was inappropriate to seek assistance from another server. It was an unnecessarily uncomfortable situation. When our food finally arrived, it was brought to us with little enthusiasm, and after that, we barely saw our server. She didn't check in with us even once to see if we needed anything else, which, in my opinion, is basic restaurant etiquette. After we finished our meal, we had to signal her again just to get the check, and by this point, the lack of attention was frustrating. The service did not warrant the standard 15% tip, so I adjusted the tip accordingly. The awkward encounters and lack of attention soured the meal for us. As we left, we couldn't help but discuss how strange the whole experience was, we were being treated as second-class citizens. Unfortunately, this visit will be my last to Crazy Otto's Diner. Next time, I'll be opting for Saugus Cafe instead.
