I recently moved and wanted to set up a moving company with very little information on when I was moving, and how much stuff I would be taking. Hall Lane was able to help me get my self together and ask me questions to try to determine my needs. I spoke with them only by phone and they were able to email me all of the documents to electronically sign which was so quick and easy! The day of the move the movers arrive about 15 minutes before they were supposed to start so they could assess the space and what was going to be moved. I'm a morning person so I appreciated the early start! Everything moved was wrapped and packaged with care including a 75" TV and an old antique hutch. They were done moving and securing the furniture on the truck in about an hour and 30 minutes. Hall review If you want to have your boxes packed with no care in the world, use them. We spoke to the packers and told them how to pack each section and they swore up and down that yes they will pack toys with toys, clothes with clothes, China with China, electronics with electronics and baby items all together, etc. Moving day came and the movers were nice, they loaded up the truck with all the boxes and furniture and off we all went. The day we moved into our new house they set up furniture. The babies crib wasn't put on the lowest setting which it originally was, the reason was they stripped the screw and lost the anchor that went with the crib. So to safety out our baby in the crib we had to permanently screw her crib together so she can't climb out and hurt herself. My oldest daughters bed we all of her screw were stripped and the bed was permanently screwed in instead. Master dressers trim was ripped off and had to be nailed back in The 65" flat screen TV.... Was NOT boxed by itself. It had a Halloween skeleton decoration in it, an ironing board, a steam vacuum cleaner and the babies monitor set with the halo which was crushed. We plug in the TV ..... cracked right in the corner. 32" flatscreen TV was broken, wasn't even boxed just wrapped in brown paper. The cords to the TV's were with the kids toys and not with the TV's or electronics as promised. Our daughters clothes were packed with slime which exploded everywhere in the box and destroyed her dresses. Our dishes were all labeled wrong saying they were mugs or classes and ended up being silverware. The garage items were either labeled "garage" or "sports equipment" and ended up being anything but that. For instance, one box was water and Gatorade. My husband military uniforms, some were dress white, were supposed to be packed by themselves instead we found them with Clorox cleaning supplies and snow brushes and shovels. Our filing cabinet, we were told to leave the files as they would take as is, I expressed they were important docs... they said no problem just leave them we will leave it all in the cabinet so we don't waste boxes... well they took all the files out and threw them into another box with my kids board games. Not like they were important files so who cares right. On top of all of this that we are finding , the day after we moved, we got a phone call from the company stating that we had an additional fee of $375 for extra boxes packed and that the packer told the company we were ok with the additional charge. First of all, we were never told this as we were advised it goes by truck weight not the amount of boxes. Second, the extra boxes that were packed were probably because most of the boxes were halfway filled and stuffed with so much paper that I questioned if there were even items in them. Third, I would never just say "ok charge me more money" after I was billed and paid the final amount. The company did take care of the extra charge but it annoys me so much now after everything that happened. Claiming the loss: we submitted to North American Van Lines what was broken, detailed with pictures and description. Weeks went by, they couldn't find an adjuster to come out and just did the claim online. The payout was just another disappointment after this entire thing. One TV they wanted us to find a repair shop so they can try and fix it ( out of my pocket) and if they can't then they would consider reimbursement. I explained when we plugged in this TV (which wasn't properly protected in a box) it sparked and wouldn't turn on. Not for nothing I wouldn't want to liability of a repair shop trying to fix the TV and later it starting a fire because it wasn't properly repaired, possibly injuring or killing myself or my family. We hired Hall Lane for a move from NYC to Orlando. Hall Lane agents stole my wife's Coach purse out of the box it was in while packing our move. They placed the empty box in their own packed box and sent it along. When we found out, we filed a claim. The claim was denied because "Any manufacturer boxes or cartons are consider packed by the owner as the carrier did not pack nor are they able to verify the contents." Beware - their movers will steal from you and the company will cover for them. There is no recourse except arbitration. Here is an excerpt of a discussion I had with their claims agent: "Also, the carrier is unable to support allegations of theft. Missing or lost items unfortunately can happen while the shipment is in the carriers possession." I feel this is telling as to where many claims will end up - denied on no standing aside from their self-determination. I would never recommend this company. They, North American Van Lines, and their "insurance carrier" are thieves covering for thieves. I would recommend having at least 2 people present and paying attention while they pack your move! I was absolutely impressed with the simplicity of setting things up and the process. It was really stress free. I loved the fact that the driver that picked up my items was the driver that stayed with my items and eventually delivered them. So I didn't give 5 Stars because: - Although a delivery window (8th to the 14th) was provided I think the timeframe from pick up to drop off was tooooooo long. i.e. picked up on the 2nd, drop off on the 14th. I thought delivery would of been earlier not the last possible day of the delivery window. In addition, the price was more because of Labor Day but the items were picked up days before Labor Day and delivered a week after Labor Day) - The brown tape that was used by Hall Moving in Commack NY was cheap. It was so cheap that you can just pull it with your hands to break/cut. The workers used that tape to close some of my boxes that weren't closed upon pick up. Since the tape was so cheap and didn't quite stick it left gaps/openings in the box. Upon receiving my boxes there were roaches (dead and alive in some boxes and on the tape. Hall lane moved us the very beginning of July, 2020, from our home to a nearby apt. From beginning to end, It was a very difficult and unpleasant experience. The movers arrived in the afternoon, exhausted and angry, because they had been at a previous job and hadn't even eaten lunch. Packing us and loading the truck was stressful and unpleasant. The next day another crew arrived and packed and loaded our bedroom, and they delivered everything to our apt. They set up our king size bed, and a few days later, we realized that they only delivered the mattress and the bed frame, not the 2 boxsprings. We called Hall immediately who gave us the run around from beginning to end We were able produce the bill from the boxspring we had purchased several years ago, as well as an estimate of what a replacement would cost After numerous e mails and phone call with the claims dept, we were led to believe that we would receive reimbursement less the deductible for the insurance we had purchased. In good faith we paid the total bill. After that, we revived a letter from Halls claims dept, stating that the boss decided not to pay, because he talked to the movers who told him that they had delivered the boxsprings...totally untrue. The Amt that Hall owes us, because of the deductible is $271.00. A few of the issues: - lost our umbrella and stand. We were told it was left at the house we were selling but it had been moved. They will not respond to our inquiry regarding our $500 umbrella/ stand set. - left furniture unassembled and it's a garage scavenger hunt to find the pieces. - showed up 2 hrs late - bounced our kitchen boxes labeled fragile down our front stairs. We had a great experience on a local move within Suffolk County. The price was very reasonable.Their crew was very pleasant and efficient; they came in under the estimated time budgeted. All furniture was disassembled and reassembled perfectly at the new home. I do suggest reading the contract as the insurance provided was ridiculous (.30 cents a pound). Don't use Hall Lane. I've had 4 major moves in the past 5 years (3 were cross-country) and Hall Lane is the only company who lost and destroyed my stuff. Yes, they lost *and* destroyed stuff. I asked them in particular to be really careful about an heirloom dining table. When it emerged on the other side of the country, it was missing a chunk from it's solid walnut leg and had scrapes all over the surface. Another box went entirely missing. Beyond these issues, the problem with Hall Lane is that, as soon as something goes wrong, they just dump you into the North American corporate bureaucracy to file a claim. They don't handle it directly and you have to rely on North American's website. I know they do a good job selling you on the care and customer service, but don't buy it - it's just sales tactics. Once they have your payment, all bets are off. There are lots of moving companies out there and I know they all have some negative Yelp reviews, but these guys really are bad. Stay away. read more

Despite a home walk through and evaluation, Hall Lane grossly underestimated our move. As a result they didn't send enough workers to complete the move in a reasonable time frame. Additionally, one of the movers walked off the job and no one told us. I became the fifth worker so we'd be done before 2am (the time they finished). Do not use Hall Lane for interstate moves (I only worked with them because I reached them through North American Van Lines). It is claimed below that it is not a common occurrence that items are delayed by 3+ weeks for interstate moves. It has been 6 weeks since my items were packed (5 weeks past the contracted delivery window) for my move from NY to Ohio and my things have not arrived. We only brought 1 weeks worth of travel items. Day after day I call Hall Lane and NA Van Lines customer service and I am still waiting a new estimated arrival date. The packing team was great, so local moves are probably fine, but I would never have expected such an unacceptable delay. The consultation appointment was on time, efficient and clear. Unreasonably, we were asked to sign an agreement referencing other documents that we had not been shown. The packing and loading went two hours later than promised. The workers were friendly and seemed to do a conscientious job. At the end of the packing and loading, we were asked to sign a bill of lading stating that it listed all items tendered. At that point, all those boxes were inaccessible, stacked in a truck, and they had not been shown to me in seriatim during packing. Accordingly, this request was unreasonable. The bill of lading I was asked to sign upon loading also contains the following language next to the customer signature line: "IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before signing -- check equipment, count items, and describe loss or damage..." Oddly and suspiciously, Hall-Lane told me to ignore that language and sign in spite of it, since it applied only to signatures collected upon *unloading*, even though the plain written language contained no such limitation. We did not receive an update on the ETA as early as we had been told we would. They were flexible about shipping without have a precise destination address. 12 days after loading, the online shipment tracking still says the location is "Currently not available. Please contact customer support." Hall Lane keeps telling me the driver will be calling, but he hasn't. I feel like I'm waiting for a sign from above and it's just not coming. We recently hired Hall-Lane Moving & Storage for an inter-state move. Our decision was based in part on their representative's (Alex Daflos) assurances that customer satisfaction was extremely important to them. However, the moving experience was terrible--it was the worst packing job I have ever had and the movers damaged a number of irreplaceable antiques--and the customer service was equally bad, with no attempt made to acknowledge the problems or compensate us in any way. I have been through several full- and partial-pack moves with many different companies, and the packing services provided by Hall-Lane were the worst I have ever encountered. The overall problem is that Hall-Lane outsources packing to separate packers, so there is no quality control or accountability. Specific problems included: - All but one of the packers were non-English-speaking and were unable to label boxes properly, e.g., many important boxes containing items we needed to locate quickly were simply labelled "supplies" - Containers with loose tops were not secured when packed in boxes, and open-top containers were insufficiently wrapped or packed sideways, resulting in a lot of spillage - Fragile items were insufficiently wrapped and were damaged as a result - Antiques items were disassembled improperly and were damaged as a result Our move included a number of fragile antique furniture pieces, and we made it clear to Alex Daflos, the packers, the movers and the driver that they needed to be handled with care. We were assured that they would be, but they were not. They were wrapped carelessly, and no attempt was made to distinguish the more fragile antique pieces once they were wrapped, so the driver and unloaders had no way to know which pieces required special care. As a result, several of these pieces were damaged. We reached out to Jo Garvey to detail these problems but our complaint was ignored. We reached out a second time a month later and were told to file a claim through insurance, which was an exercise in futility because all the insurance company did was have a "repair specialist" look at the items, deny some of the items and provide an absurdly low repair estimate for the remaining items so that the insurance company could claim that the total cost of repair was less than the deductible. Separately, we requested a reimbursement for the packing charges since we did not receive the packing services that we paid for; Jo Garvey said that she would inquire about this and get back to us but she never did. A final follow-up message sent to Jo Garvey was ignored. In summary, Hall-Lane simultaneously provided the worst packing job and the worst customer service of any moving company that I have ever dealt with. Avoid them if you need packing services or if you are moving any fragile items. I highly recommend Men on the Move instead. read more

I used Hall Lane for a move from Long Island to rockland county. I have multiple issues with the company but will address only one. I hired them to pack, store and move my belongings. Needless to say it is hectic when you are moving and hard to keep track of everything going on. On the packing day my son was at camp and had put all of his electronics in a string bag to take with him as all of our things would be on storage for a few months as our house was not ready. Upon return from camp that day he asked me where his string bag was. I said I wasn't sure and asked one of the packers if he had seen it. His answer to me was I'm sure if it was in the room it's somewhere in a box. The whole house had been packed by that time and it was impossible to start going through boxes so I dismissed it as we would find it when we finally got into our house. Upon moving into the house and unpacking we never found his string bag.we figured it was in something else and continued to look but could not locate it. My son got a new phone and while looking on find my iPhone my sons iPad came up as being used in Hicksville. Now I knew we didn't have it. I locked it and put my phone number on the lock screen. I was contacted by the person and told that it was bought on the street in NYC the day after I had my house packed!!! Obviously stolen by one of the people I was paying to pack my house. After contacting the moving company and the owner of the company John Hall I told him the story and had asked if they could pay for the stolen stuff or replace it. The answer I got was a flat out no!! He said there was no way one of his employees would take it. Not a good business decision. That started an 8 month ordeal of calls and interviews and insurance adjusters Etc. it was finally agreed by the insurance investigator that they were responsible for the stolen items. That's right. Stolen by the people I entrusted with my entire house! John Hall should have fixed it. He should have given me the money for what his employees had taken and moved on. Instead he was pompous and strung me along for months. It was a total of $900 worth of stuff that could have been settled without additional aggravation a lot of wasted time. My experience with Hall-Lane Moving and Storage was mixed -- at best. They do not handle your possessions with care. They get particularly testy if you ask them to take care, add a little more wrapping etc. Moving day is hectic enough - their attitude makes the day just that much worse. Likely, they're a decent bet if you're moving nothing breakable and nothing of personal or real value. Definitely, do NOT trust them to wrap anything fragile or breakable. Their carelessness/arrogance/don't care attitude resulted in damage and costly repair to several items. For example, a valuable ottoman was stained when wrapped in a filthy and apparently coffee stained pad. When I discovered this damage upon their arrival the supervisor turned the air blue with his cursing at one of the movers who he believed encouraged me to discover the damage. Believe me, I could give more examples ... #nightmare. If you report damage, you descend into their bureaucratic nightmare of paperwork. I doubt anyone ever gets fair compensation. read more

And I agree with Sara that the boxes were filled with a lot of papers, that I was charged for, and the fee was not the final fee because I was then charged another $1220.00 afterwards, totaling over 8 thousand dollars. They added additional hours because it took so long for delivery. However the truck that was 2 1/2/ hrs late stopped for dinner without letting anyone know. Really? Never again! And I'm still finding damages. Good you have 9 months for submitting the claim form. Also, items that should've been packed together were separated and pin different boxes. If I could rate less than one, I would. My moving experience with Hall Lane has been the worst I have ever experienced and I have moved many times. They were the cheapest estimate and have their "guarantee", but the old adage is true. You get what you pay for. First, I was given a quote, but when I called to book I was told the quote was incorrect due to holiday rates being higher. I had been up front with my desire to move during the Christmas to new year's holiday, so I was understandably upset by this. However, the quote was still in line with the competition and I wanted that "guarantee". I can understand that the salesperson messed up the rates, but this is just bad business practice. My origins estimated delivery time was 1/4/14 to 1/15/14. I was told I'd receive a call 48 hours in advance to tell me when my things would arrive, Monday through Saturday. Not having been called by 1/10, I decided to give them a call to ask. I was told that due to the snowstorm in New York (on the weekend of 1/3/14) they had FORGOTTEN my load and it still had not loaded. They did not know when it would load. While a snowstorm holding up my items is completely understandable, to forget and never load the items into a truck after that is incomprehensible! After many phone calls from me with ZERO contact initiated by them (other than one follow up email sent at 5pm on a Friday so I could not respond until Monday), I finally found out that my move was loaded on 1/14/14 at night. Being familiar with the Hours of Service laws and having been told there was a single driver, I knew this meant I would be lucky to receive my items by 1/18/14. My helpful family member came to help me unpack on 1/15/14, so she would have to sleep on a loaned mattress and I on an air mattress, but I was happy she might still be here when it arrived. She was here for extra 3 days because of flight problems due to another NY snowstorm, but despite her leaving on 1/24/14, the goods never arrived. Finally, I received a call from the driver on Saturday 1/25 at 4:30pm stating that after all these problems I was one of the later moved for North American Van Lines to drop off loads in the order that fit them best. But, he'd be at my house in 15 hours on Sunday at 7:30am and no I did not have a choice as to when he would come because he had 2-3 other drops this day. So much for 48 hours notice and not on Sundays! Slight silver lining of my not having to take off work to receive my items and I recognize that this driver does not work for Hall Lane, but this just adds to my frustration. I am now awaiting the driver and hoping that my items are not damaged... Oh and that guarantee? At least the delivery timeframe portion is null if your load doesn't weigh over 3,300 lbs. so I get no compensation. Hall lane was nice enough to send me $100 in gift certificates - but when I received them, I found that they were restaurant.com gift certificates. If you've ever used these, you know they are more like coupons, as you have to spend more than the gift certificate to actually use them. read more

I worked with Alex and his crew to pack up a large house over two days. Alex was a pleasure to work with -- great mix of professional, respectful and very pleasant. He and his crew were efficient, careful and respected the rules regarding wearing masks. Moving can be stressful, but working with Alex and his crew was about as low-stress an experience as I could have hoped for. 4/6/19 After my review was posted, I received a call from C. Michael Hall. At first the conversation was exactly the same as my previous conversations. He even had the audacity to tell me that having had furniture broken did not equate to a one star rating. As I was about to hang up, he asked if I "wanted to hear what he could do for me."In the end, I was not reimbursed the additional monies to replace the base of my table. Instead I was given the monies in restaurant.com gift certificates.Although this will never make up for my loss, at least someone at Hall-Lane Moving tried. read more

I'm sure most of you get stressed out Like I do when you have to move. The day before the move, Hall Lane called and told me the time the driver would be at my home. The day of my move - they actually got there a little earlier then expected - which is always good in my opinion!! Everything was loaded And then unloaded so fast - and nothing was broken. Everything was still in perfect condition. Not only was the service great, but the Hall Lane movers were so friendly - and really put me at ease. I would highly recommend them!! read more

We moved twice in the past year, and both moves involved packing services and a number of fragile antiques (both decorations and furniture). For the first (local) move we used Men on the Move, and we received exceptional service. They did an excellent job packing, handled all of our items with care, and they did not damage any of the items. For the second (non-local) move we used Hall-Lane Moving & Storage, and I was appalled by the condition in which our items arrived. The packers were sloppy and disorganized; boxes were mislabeled and many items were damaged. Many of our antique furniture items were damaged as well. My husband tried to follow up with the company; despite being assured that the owners always want their customers to be satisfied, our complaints were ignored. Do not use Hall-Lane for your move. read more

We used Hall Lane recently. They were very professional. I was assigned a young lady who followed up on everything. The three movers were quick, efficient and very nice. The man who gave us the quote was spot on and there were no surprises like I have had in the past with other movers. I highly recommend them for their professionalism and great service. read more

Used Hall Lane Movers of Commack in Fall of 2017, based on a move in 2012. Unfortunately, the people I dealt with were no longer there. The former people were so nice, professional, and caring of items moved. It is now run by a nephew named Michael Clell. He cannot hold a candle to the former owners and crew. The man in charge of the movers on the truck is rude and nasty to customers. He snaps and yells at customers when there is a problem. He needs a class in customer service. On the move from Connecticut to Long Island, one of the crew threw the drink bottles that I offered on the lawn and left them there. Many items were damaged; sturdy boxes bent. The guys were rough. The men that unloaded in LI were much nicer, after I had lodged a complaint. I was going to make a claim for the items that were damaged, but with the deduction applied before the amount is calculated, it was not worth my time and trouble. My advice to anyone using this company is to use someone else. I have moved several times. This was the worst mover of all. And it included a move from Connecticut, a family member from Florida and another family member from Long Island to a different location. That was 3 moves for family members to the same location. That was a total of three moves -- substantial costs -- . Once Michael obtained the deposits for the three moves, the customer service was not available, The office staff is very nice. Michael and the crew need to learn about customer service Maybe after the complaints, they shaped up, but I would not take any chances. When people ask about the mover, I recommend they obtain a more reputable company. read more

I'm sorry to say, I had a bad experience with Hall Lane Moving. After packing half my belongings, they tried to charge me double the packing expense when my estimate was supposed to be guaranteed! When I opened my boxes, i realized that some of them were mostly paper fill. No wonder they used so many boxes. Also, my boxes were not adequately marked. They forgot to mark a box that had all my sheets, comforter, pillows, etc. as well as a table. And, neither were on the inventory sheet, so I didn't know they were missing until I unpacked everything. Both were left on the truck. Luckily, the mover on the other end of North American (not Hall Lane) drove back to my apartment to drop them off a couple weeks later. Lastly, some of my tables were scratched and a lot of water goblets broken, because they were not wrapped properly. The packers actually put the water goblets on the bottom of a large box full of pots and pans. Not smart! Sadly, I would not recommend Hall Lane Movers. read more
