had a local move. was billed hourly including 2 hour lunch break. the guys were great and the move was otherwise adequate. I did not purchase the insurance offered to me that would have covered me for them breaking my things, something odd about them charging me for insurance for them breaking my things. minimal damage anyway. the reason for the 1 star is I never asked for storage, never had any thing stored. a month after the move I was charged for 2 months of storage. I called and they said there is a record of storage of furniture. I was adamant that no furniture was stored, none missing. I still own the house that I moved from and the furniture that I didn't want moved was there. I witnessed the moves out of house into apartment. I suggested they go see the storage and see any items stored as there is ZERO. they took the charges off, no call back. the next month (today) I received yet another charge. I called again, and they will look into it again. FRAUD behavior, watch your credit card usage if you use this company. nothing was authorized except for my local move and no storage was requested, no items were stored. bizarre. hope I do not have to go back to them monthly. next step is better business or any fraud organization. buyer beware. read more

I moved from Queens to Manhattan on Dec 2012 (3 months ago) and am still waiting for Hall Lane to refund me for overcharging. I worked with Alex Daflos who assured me that I would hear back from the head of the company, but have yet to hear anyone. I have reached out to him about 15 times over the last few months via e-mail and phone and have yet to get the refund that is owed to me. I was charged for things that were not quoted to me. I am extremely thorough and discussed the entire process and expected cost up front, but additional charges were added to my bill. On the moving day, I was told that I should pay and deal with the company for a refund. 3 months later I am still waiting! Please have owner of the company get back to me as soon as possible. I am not sure what else to do at this point. I am extremely frustrated!!! read more

I wish I could give the packers and the movers separate reviews. The packing done on the first day of our move was very good - done in an organized way, with boxes clearly labeled. The team was overall good to work with, and I would give them a 4.5. The movers who arrived the next day were shocking. The foreman on our job showed up past 10am and spent the first 30 minutes complaining that the company didn't send another guy. He then proceeded to be rude to us, our building staff, and the members of his team, then left the junior members of his team without direction and to do all the work. Either he wanted the job to take as long as possible to prove a point to the dispatcher, or he is just incompetent. Either way, the job wasn't completed until 7pm, and frankly only happened because my husband jumped in at 5pm to start directing the move. Remember, everything in our 3bdrm apartment had already been packed the day before. Not only did my husband have to act as foreman, he was carrying boxes and moving furniture to the truck himself, because our building was ready to shut us down. I have never witnessed anything like this before - your basic man with a van from Craigslist will provide better service, and we paid almost 5 figures. I'm not mentioning the price because I think it is too high (the source of many of the poor reviews on this company), but just to note that we chose to pay a certain price to ensure a high level of service. What happened was a scenario we couldn't have even imagined. The irony is that this is a corporate move across states, and we would have gladly paid more to ensure a good experience whether that was with more team members, or a foreman who knew what he was doing. We spoke with the company and the dispatcher to try to get a better team on drop off. For some reason, they charged us another fee for unpacking, even though we had requested the most all inclusive service possible. Long story short - we paid for the service and still had to do much of the unpacking and assembly work ourselves. Pretty terrible on both sides. TLDR: seemingly not accustomed to corporate moves with full service required. Terrible attitudes and disorganized teams. Don't hire unless you want to do a lot of manual labor yourself, and be worried about whether the move will happen. Packing service was good. read more

Rude and unprofessional. Read on for more. I was on the receiving end, a family friend was downsizing and hired Hall Lane to do the packing and moving, and then move some bigger pieces to various places. I was getting a queen bed frame, headboard, mattress and box spring. They showed up more than an hour late for the initial move and pack, so my delivery was also late. When they showed up they refused to wear the shoe covers I have for whenever service people come to the house -- we have a shoe-free house. He gave me some excuse about having a bad foot. Then they insisted I sign their paperwork, which wasn't part of the agreement. I told him I wasn't comfortable signing since I hadn't hired them. They called their boss (their word) to ask about the paperwork and put me on the phone with a very professional woman who explained I just needed to initial for the time they left. Of course I agreed to that, which was reasonable. I also asked her why they weren't allowed to wear shoe covers and she seemed surprised and said they should and they would. The two men proceeded to unload the pieces to my front steps and then grudgingly put on the shoe covers. They huffed and puffed as they moved the mattress inside and actually had to rest and take breaks just moving these few pieces. When they were done I wrote down the time and initialed their paperwork. Then the mover said I wrote the time wrong, scribbled it out, and wrote a different time. (I have no idea what he wrote there.) I realized later when I went outside that they ended up taking off their shoe covers and shoving them in the front bushes. They were extremely unprofessional and rude. I would not recommend this company. read more

Hall Lane moved me from NYC into storage, and then 5 months later from storage to Philadelphia. For both moves and for the storage, their estimates were prompt, easy to understand, and accurate relative to the final cost. The moving guys were friendly and careful, and they got the job done quickly without being rushed. They kept good track of all of our things, and brought them all back. Storage was uneventful, which is all you can ask. We packed most things ourselves and no doubt saved money doing so. It might have been possible to save additional money by using a different mover, but the lower priced over-the-phone bidders made me uncomfortable. Among the go-to-your-apartment bidders, H-L's price was middle of the pack. read more

Moving is quite possibly one of the most unappealing things to have to deal with. Two days ago my opinion was completely changed. We had the honor and pleasure of working with Jeff, Moses and Paul. Not only were they beyond professional and respectful, they were quick and very careful with all of our things. For dealing with something as stressful and unpleasant as moving being able to laugh with these guys was amazing! I want to have a bbq just for them, it was like being with family. These guys are beyond amazing and we were so lucky to have met them all. I highly recommend them over and over again! They are reasonably priced and showed up on time. They were so pleasant and fun to be around, each of them had a huge smile and were so happy it was wonderful! If you're moving, use these guys! I would move again just to see them. read more

Hall Lane Moved me twice. Once into storage and once out of storage. They were mediocre and unprofessional. one of the movers on my job stood on my daughters dresser moving us into a large storage unit and then again when we were moving out of the unit. This ruined the dresser . Hall Lane picked up the dresser they damaged 7-8 weeks ago to have it repaired. That was the last we saw of our twin 6 year olds daughters dresser. Their clothes are in stacks in their bedroom with out their dresser. Every time we call we're told the dresser is not ready. How long is a reasonable amount of time to make the repair? In my opinion it should have been replaced from the start. I agreed on having it repaired and then at the last minute they canceled the appointment to pick it up after my wife took off from work to be available. That cost us additional $, when I spoke with the Hall Lane representative about it she shot back that they didn't even have to do the repair and that by contract all they were required to do was give us .20 cents per pound for the damaged furniture. It's a crime that these so called professional movers can be so incompetent, clearly standing on top of our dresser while packing it into storage and then again when moving out of storage. They caused this problem and are dragging this out, 2 months to have a repair made is unacceptable and totally rediculous. read more

I don't usually take the time to comment online about any company, but I was so impressed with Hall-Lane that I felt compelled to let everyone know. The entire process was seamless. Anthony gave me a very accurate estimate. The pick-up and the delivery were done in an efficient and professional manner. There was no damage and no wasted time. Moved many times in my life but what is usually the worst day turned out to be the best ever. All boxes packed prior day and perfectly labeled . The move the next day was nothing short of amazing. Most of the cartons were taken away as I unpacked. The movers were helpful organized and too good to believe. Nothing damaged, broken or missing and everything out exactly where I wanted it. I am in the process of planning another move on Long Island and last year I had a packing, moving and overseas move with Hall Lane. I was considering this company again so I checked these reviews and realised that many people gave a one star rating. My move was ok, nothing damaged, although the packing material was not as discussed on the phone. As a result I concluded that they were a bit expensive and when engaging C Michael Lane to understand better the final cost for the actual move he could have been more helpful.The moving and picking crew were nice and did a good job, but if the boss is not fully engaged on the important issues you are at risk if things don't go well. I didn't meet him so i can only conclude that he is less experienced than i expected in how to handle customers when there are unresolved issues of concern. I wrote to him to explain my feelings and he never bothered to respond at all. read more

I was directed to Hall-Lane when I requested an estimate through North American. I set up an appointment for Tuesday at 10am for Hall-Lane to come by my apartment and provide an estimate for my move. At 9am on Tuesday, I was checking my voicemails from the weekend (I had been out of town visiting family), and saw that I had two voicemails from Hall-Lane asking if they could come on Monday to do the estimate instead. Well, since I was out of town until Monday night and didn't get the voicemail until Tuesday, I assumed they would still be coming to do the estimate at the originally scheduled time. Well, just to be sure, I called Hall-Lane to confirm that they would indeed be coming in an hour, and found that they had cancelled my appointment without informing me. Because I wasn't available on Monday when their estimator was in Manhattan, they just cancelled the appointment because it wasn't convenient. If I hadn't called, I would've been sitting around just waiting for them. They offered to reschedule, but needless to say if someone isn't going to honor appointments that aren't convenient, I'm not going to let you move all of my stuff across the country. read more

Horrific experience with this company. From packing, to loading, to delivery to claim process. Although they sent an alleged experienced professional to do the walk-through, he failed to annotate a hot-tub (even though he inspected it, talked about it for 30 minutes, and planned how they would get it out of the backyard) on the estimate. This resulted in an added charge on delivery. The packers included one who talked all day rather than pack. Delivery included local hires that were without a doubt the worst I have seen in over 15 moves. They attempted to leave a dining room chair that they broke on the truck (it was only discovered once I inspected the truck at the end of the day). On top of all this, the claim process took entirely too long - 6 months after the move, and still no check. Do yourself a favor, and save some time - don't bother with this company. read more

Guaranteed delivery date has come and gone. Now I'm being told my furniture will be delivered in 2 weeks. That will make this a 4 week delivery from NY to Minneapolis. I had a terrible experience with Hall Lane. Two of the five movers they sent did nothing. The charges were double what Alex had quoted us, and when I called to discuss it, Susan was incredibly rude and nasty and literally hung up on me when I asked if they'd be willing to split the difference between their quote and the $1,000+ difference in what they charged us. I was so shocked that she hung up on me I actually called back and asked if we just had a bad connection or had she hung up, to which she replied, "We're done here" and hung up again. Definitely not professional or respectful or at all concerned with their customer's satisfaction. My advice is to use any other moving company than Hall Lane. I wish we had. read more

Our moving company in NC arranged for Hall Lane to be our packers and movers on this end. Our move was made miserable by a supervisor named Dan. In addition to not caring about the damage done to the hallways of the building we were leaving he left the truck open, loaded and unattended on a NYC street. He cared not one bit. Was only in a rush to get back to Long Island. I immediately called his boss. As a result, when our belongings arrived there was clearly malicious damage. A slashed chair, and some deliberately broken tables. We filed a claim and received payment for the damage. All so unbelievable. Every other employee did a fine job. But their supervisor Dan, and their choice to make him a supervisor and keep him in their company indicates something is very wrong here. Find another mover. read more

They damaged our furniture, tried to cover it up and then denied even doing it on top of that we were charged an additional $120 without even being notified because supposedly the movers went over the scheduled time, which was not the case. Think twice before selecting Hall Lane. I hired Hall Lane based on the professionalism of Alex D., their estimator. While Alex was great, unfortunately the results of my NYC to California move did not live up to the advertising. First, during the move out, the movers scratched the door of the apartment with the foot of the couch. It was a heavy couch, so if that was all that happened, I would have said fine, no harm, no foul. However, the worst was yet to come. Despite the fact that they said I would have a minimum of 24 hours advance notice before my belongings were delivered in California, the driver never called and I was actually out when the truck arrived. I had to turn around on the freeway and rush back to meet the driver and let the crew in to unload. As they were unloading, I discovered that during the move they broke the leg of my dining room table, a chair, the baby's changing table, and just totally lost another chair. The driver said he knew exactly where in the warehouse the missing chair was and promised to send it back. Six weeks later, nada, zilch, zippo. The claims process was an unmitigated disaster. Despite the fact that I shelled out a few hundred dollars for the additional insurance, the furniture repair specialist they said would be in touch within a week never called me even though I left repeated messages for him. It wasn't until I called the President of Hall Lane that I finally got results. Sure enough, within a day the furniture guy called and arranged to pick up the broken table and chair. That is the only reason I've given Hall Lane the second star. The move was definitely a one-star experience, but I gave them a second star for actually doing something about it. However, customers shouldn't have to call the President to get results; there is something fundamentally broken with their systems. After all, what kind of moving company promises to call before they arrive and then just shows up unannounced? Aggravation? Hours on the phone with claims and the company? All of this for the privilege of spending thousands of dollars? Buyer beware... read more

Not only were the "guaranteed" delivery dates off by about a week, out of 300 + boxes..I'd say about 25% of them came in damaged, crushed, pierced and shredded. Even my wardrobe boxes were crushed and haf my clothes were left with greasy black marks all over them. These were not some flimsy boxes...we bought top of the line boxes. Our furniture had water stains on it as well as chunks of fabric ripped off of it. Their so called resolution dept did everything they could to avoid paying the damages. I've been fighting them since Sept. They overcharged us on the insurance and now that we have a claim, they're trying to get away with just reimbursing us the diff. between the deductible rather than pay us. They claim they will reimburse you the "full replacement cost" yet they have not paid sales tax which is obviously a part of the replacement cost. I took pictures of all the damages, I set up a very easy to coordinate package and they are still trying to find Loop holes. The carelessness and damage done to our belongings are beyond belief. They lost one of our boxes and have given us a very difficult time in trying to get reimbursed. They never finished assembling what they had disassembled- we were left with having to put thing back together...they even brought their young kids here while we were trying to get everything unloaded...So Unprofessional... We did not choose this company because they were the cheapest (because they weren't)...we chose them based on their honesty and integrity...we were totally duped!!$12k to move across country and we sustained about 5-8k$ in damages. After a major move like we had...the last thing we had was time to document and prove and fight and follow up on all the damages that they inflicted upon us. If you're on the fence about choosing this company...I'd say steer clear unless you're a lawyer with a lot of time on your hands. read more

I found Hall-Lane to be extremely professional, courteous and willing to go the extra mile to please. I had to pack and move to storage many things from my home. Everything was packed with great care and moved into Hall-Lane's climate controlled storage facility. The price was very reasonable, and the storage fees are even more reasonable, roughly 1/3 the cost of those self-storage places. These are very warm and honest people and I feel very secure that my possessions are in the best of hands. I would never use anyone else for my moving and storage needs. read more

I am a design professional who regularly uses trucking a moving companies. After doing several personal moves with this company the service got worse and worse. Several items were damaged en route. The movers even tried hide and secretly repair an antique sideboard in the truck with Gorilla Glue with out telling us. The service got WORSE when we tried to place a claim with them for the damaged items. . . .it almost is not worth the stress and tears it caused. In the end I think of them almost as criminals. All i got was a LARGE bill, no money from our claim and heartache. I would advise to NEVER use this company. read more

We decided to use Hall-Lane for our move from Long Island to South Carolina after meeting with several movers due to Alex, the salesperson's assurance that we would have one crew that packs and moves us down south. He also reassured us that our belongings would go on one van that would carry our possessions to South Carolina. Well Alex, wrong on both counts. The 3 men who packed us on Long Island did a very good job but they told us they never drive out of state and that a different crew would deliver our belongings. A week later, the van arrived in South Carolina....but it was a different van. This van was huge and our belongings had been transferred from one truck to another. A different crew of 2 men started to unload and it was observed that our brand new boxspring and mattress, that was double bagged for safety, was ripped and our bed was soiled. These men also did a good job, so no concerns there; however we felt that Alex had completely given us false information and misrepresented Hall-Lane. read more

We used Hall-Lane after comparing with other movers. We moved from New York to Fort Mill South Carolina. They are nice people to deal with. Mover took their time and packed really nice and nothing broken after delivery. I was really impressed how they packed glass furniture. People that were involved delivering to South Carolina were real nice and I paid them good tips. Just one problem I need to report, The New York packers have taken couple of expensive whiskey bottles and several laundry detergents. They aren't honest in my book. read more

Not my first time using Hall Lane, but absolutely the last. I'm very unhappy and extremely disappointed. I packed and labeled everything myself, with the exception of the really large furniture. They needed to pick up my stuff in a small moving truck because the street where they parked was narrow. This crew did a great job. From there they went to their office in Commack where my stuff was then put onto the 18 wheeler. All downhill from there. Then onto somewhere in Florida, where it was again unloaded to a smaller truck for delivery to my apartment. Because of delays in closing on my NY apartment, the truck my furniture was on was not going to be able to do the final delivery. They contracted with a private company to deliver my furniture, meaning another off-loading and on-loading. This cost me an additional $600.00, but worst of all several of my boxes went "missing". Even though every box was labeled "Glass" "Kitchen" "Livingroom", etc., there was nothing on their papers noting any of this. Filling out their claims paperwork is a joke. Don't know and don't care whose fault it was. Too many irreplaceable items and memories gone. read more

Hall Lane movers came up and gave me an estimate. They were a bit higher than my previous estimates, but I like the gentleman giving me the estimate as he seemed very thorough so I agreed and canceled my other offers. The next day after I had cancelled my other movers and agreed to use them, Hall-Lane came back with a new estimate that was 25% higher than the estimate provided the day before and non-negotiable. The rationale for the change in rates was not defined and they would allow no further discussion--take it or leave it. Naturally I left it. I have moved several times in the last few years and never had movers change their estimates by 25% after agreeing to a rate. I found them extremely unprofessional and borderline unethical in their dealings. I would not use them and be weary of any estimate they provide as they may increase the rates considerable prior to signing contracts. read more
