Hallet's is a true treasure on the Cape. It has been around since the 1800s and still in the same family! The atmosphere is like going back in time which we absolutely love. The restaurant and store look like a museum of the restaurants history. We always get their amazing chocolate sodas. Not many places even have them anymore and not only do they make them there, but they are delicious! There are a number of locals that are regulars there which says something about their wonderful food, ice cream, and drinks. It's a special experience every time we go there. read more

My husband and I living here for about 10 days now and finally stopped in, it is a beautiful place in business since 1925!! The ice cream is delicious and the owner whose Great Grandfather started the business that not only was an ice store but also a pharmacy, was one of the nicest and pleasant people we have met. Mediocre ice cream at best and owner has no customer service skills Samples aren't allowed and they advertise things they don't sell and call it "decorative." It's not a historical menu from when the place opened either, it's a modern sign for soda that they no longer carry. A sign in an ice cream shop giving kids under 12 a 10 minute time limit is also laughable. Stay away. read more

Had very good chicken salad sandwiches and an Ice cream soda. Sandwiches were good , came with chips . About $10 each. Seemed fair . chocolate ice cream soda was great -- I think around $7 or $8. Kind of no frills place although very cute /nostalgic inside . We'd go again. read more

Hallet's is located in a beautiful historic building right off of scenic 6A. The exterior of the store is very cute and welcoming... but that's where the charm ends. We stopped in for an ice cream with our son earlier this summer. The prices are insane even for the Cape: $6 for a small cone (very small indeed) and no kids sizes available. We still decided to try and while we were waiting for our order started noticing signs hung on the walls stating that children are not allowed inside for more than 10 minutes and are forbidden from touching anything. I understand the concern for unvaccinated kids (I am giving the owner the benefit of the doubt that this is the reason for the signage), but there are a couple issues with this policy: 1. Kids really like ice cream. 2. There is no where to eat the ice cream outside of the store. When you step out the door you are literally in the street. No benches, chairs, or even a stump in sight. We ended up eating our ice cream on the neighboring business's stoop. There are a few easy ways that the owner could remedy this situation: require everyone (including children) to wear masks while inside, provide ample hand sanitizer, and direct patrons to an area outdoors where their overpriced frozen treats can be enjoyed. None of this might have been an issue however if the ice cream wasn't downright terrible. The owner even assured us when we skeptically asked about the high price tag that this was "high quality stuff". We ordered coconut ice cream and there was not a hint of coconut flavor - it just tasted like an artificial vanilla-like flavoring. The consistency was very strange and elastic as well - also not enjoyable. In summary, Hallet's is best experienced through the window of a moving car that's on its way to a different ice cream store. read more

A MUST DO! An Iconic Ice Cream Parlor/Restaurant for over 100 years well 130 years to be exact on Cape Cod in Yarmouthport MA. The New England Clam Chowder is EXCELLENT here! The Chowder was so Rich & Creamy & was the best thing we ordered. Their Ice Cream is Made on the premises & was Good. The Sandwiches we had Meatball, Turkey & Tuna were Pretty Good. But the Standout was The Chowder. They have someone make their Clam Chowder for them & then they just open the can & add milk etc. The Hallet's Clam Chowder comes in a large tall can that makes 1 gallon of Chowder. Some lady came in while we were there & bought 8 Cans of Chowder that's 8 gallons of Chowder. She must really Love It! In an era where they rip down so much stuff & put something new & improved in It's place, it's great to see a business that has been around in their family for 130 years in 2019. Walk around the whole place in all the nooks & crannies. They have some great Vintage woodwork, cabinets & some retro soda bottles. They have their own hardcover book you can look through with some great vintage photos & history of the place. They also sell their book, T Shirts & Baseball Caps & Mugs with their Logo on it. It is open Seasonal Hours here Summer Hours are 12-5 every day. We ended up buying a T Shirt, Baseball Cap & of course a can of Clam Chowder to go. I will be back to this nostalgic classic to have some more Clam Chowder for sure. It used to be, you had to have mega bucks & be really rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. The ice cream is absolutely the best we have had on the Cape. My kids even agree. Yes, there are places nearer to us in Dennis but we try to go to Hallets when we are on the Northside. We can not speak to the breakfast or lunch food but the owner is super friendly and we have always had a memorable time there. BTW, it's well posted on the door and in the store that there is no public bathroom. This is not uncommon especially in historic buildings. I would never hold it against a business. Seems to me that is a parent issue, not a business owner issue. read more

My grandmother and grandfather brought me a shirt from Hallet's when I was a young child, maybe 25 years ago. It was too big for me when I received it, so it lasted years and years--from elementary through high school and even into college until I lost it in Hurricane Katrina :( I have always wanted to go to this place because of that shirt, so when my family and I were planning a New England trip Cape Cod became a must stop just to go here. We went on 4th of July, and I was so glad they were open despite the holiday because that was our only day in the area. The ice cream was great. I got a black raspberry sundae with black raspberry syrup. I could eat that same sundae forever it was so good. My kid got a root beer float, and my husband got the maple walnut ice cream. We all enjoyed our treats, and I even got a mug with the same picture from my old shirt to give to my grandmother and bought myself a new shirt (though not the same design unfortunately! lol). I told the man about my old shirt, and he remembered the exact shirt and actually showed me the same picture printed on a large ceramic or porcelain square and let me take a picture of that. He was really very nice, and I'm quite happy with our visit! I wish we had gone before rather than after lunch because I would've loved to try "ham salad." read more

This review is a bit conflicted. I used to come here as a kid, back when they used to have a long counter along the wall to the right. They made the most amazing frappes ever. Chocolate with a banana in it, or chocolate malted... yum. Upstairs they had a museum with some of the coolest artifacts including both World Wars. I attribute my love of collecting old glass bottles to this museum. Coming here was a huge treat and we loved it. Taking a trip down memory lane, I stopped in to get a frappe. I was truly and dishearteningly disappointed. They've totally changed the layout, no more long counter, and the museum upstairs is now closed. I had to explain what I wanted about 5 times. And demonstrate by picking up a bunch of bananas. I also ordered a Reeses frappe. The chocolate banana one actually came out well, but for $7 it should!!! The Reeses one was 75% milk, 25% ice cream. It was awful. Basically I paid $14 to be thoroughly let down. This is one of those cases where your memory is better than reality. I wish I hadn't come, honestly. The staff were impolite and poorly trained. Maybe it was just an off day. But I probably won't be back to find out. read more

Awesome little ice cream shop on 6A. Yes, I know they don't have a restroom, they know it too. This is New England where restrooms, even in restaurants, are hard to come by. There are more signs of no restrooms than anything else in New England. Anyways, it is good icecream. Had a chocolate malt and it was fantastic. Got s couple Halletts sodas too to go. Cute little place. Friendly guy working there. I don't have any complaints at all. Old time place and feel. If you want a place with a bathroom go somewhere else, but don't complain about it. read more

3.5 stars. A little store right next by the Optimist cafe and Inaho. The owner greeted us with Cape Cod Bear, which was cute. He kept coming over to our little table like you would find at a tea house. Very cute store. Nothing wrong with the store. They say that they serve breakfast but I couldn't find a menu anywhere. Plus when came later, like 1:00. Literally, the only things on the menu were clam chowder, some sandwiches, and ice cream. You can see right into a complicated kitchen which they supposedly make their own ice cream. I do believe them. Sandwiches were alright. We ordered meatball subs with cheese. I just received the following message from the owner of Halllets, "The business is 125 years old the building is 125 years old I'm sorry we cannot supply you with a public restroom the business never had one for the public if you'd like to pay for me would let everybody use it estimated cost $125,000" I WILL never patronize this place again! We came with high hopes and a hungry appetite. We left with empty pockets and unfulfilled dreams. We scoured the menus for a delicious flavor of ice cream so we ordered it. But our smiles soon turned to scowls as our eyes laid upon the meager portion of ice cream that we were served. The ice cream was so minuscule that it began to actually roll around my cup like a marble. I mean, a small ice cream usually consists of more than one spoonful... Right? In conclusion this has been a unfulfilling experience that has changed my outlook on cape cod ice cream shops forever. Save your time and money and go somewhere else... So rude. No other patrons in the parlor, the 3 people behind the counter could not even bother to greet us or make eye contact. We asked to taste the purple cow yogurt and were refused because , and I quote, they have "nothing to prove". They have signs advertising their sandwiches and "famous clam chowder" but we never tasted either because what the signs don't say is that they stop serving food early in the afternoon. Very pricy. The ice cream is above average but you can't get samples to tell what you want. When I went for 3 people ice cream cost $18. It was a very neat store with history. It has been open for 125 years. A killer for me is that there is no public restroom. Customers also can't wash hands for sanitation. I was looking forward to returning to Hallet's after visiting years ago and it was great. Charlie, the owner was friendly and very accommodating. He offered a glass of water without my having to request it and my ice cream was excellent. It was late in the afternoon, nearly dinner time, so luckily not many customers that time of day. He engaged my husband and I in lively conversation about Hallet's history and I discovered it will be celebrating 125 years in business this year and has been a family owned business all along! A great place for a meal and, of course an ice cream cone! This is definitely my place for ice cream on the cape. read more

Was enticed by the adorable facade of Hallet's while en route to Hyannis so stopped on way back to South Dennis. I ordered the coffee Heath crunch; my aunt ordered the Black Raspberry. After 4 or 5 bites of the ice cream in a glass dish, I realized that it didn't taste like coffee nor were there any toffee pieces. So I brought it up to the counter and asked if it were the coffee Heath; yes, the teenager behind the counter told me. So I go back to eating it and only finding chocolate chips (slices of chocolate), I ask the older guy who seemed to be in charge. He goes on to tell me that yes, it's Coffee Heath bar but that the Heath bar pieces melt! Are you kidding me?! He's trying to convince me that the tasteless ice cream I'm eating is coffee flavored and the thin chocolate chips are Heath Bar pieces. Not! I left the rest of it to melt while my aunt finished her dull-flavored homemade ice cream. They should leave the ice cream business to those who know how like Sundae School in Harwich! And the guy's people skills need refining too! Expensive too! What a waste of money:(( Do I have to even give this place one star? read more

Sadly you can not rate things with 2/53 of a star. Because if I could I would. The only good thing about my experience was that when I forked over all the money I had, I was actually given icecream ( they didn't steal my money), but the quality and portion of my icecream was rather questionable. I was not given nearly enough icecream to compensate for the tears that I shed when I saw just how little I was served. I left Hallets broke, hungry and depressed. Never again will I step in to that building that took away every bit of happiness and hope I had for humanity. I am a big fan of the Sundae School, BUT I think that Hallets ice cream is possibly the best I have had on Cape Cod. I was thinking this to myself as I was enjoying their double chocolate peanut butter chip and then my wife said it out loud. This used to be a lovely old fashioned soda shop, complete with an ice cream counter. Since the accident (a car drove into the window last winter) renovations have taken place, but the results are disappointing. There is no longer a counter to sit at, and the store is nothing more than a typical ice cream shop. Pop music blares on the radio. Only posters on the wall remind the patrons of what used to be a superior, unique establishment. read more
