Don't get me wrong, I love a great dive bar that's cheap. It isn't the bar itself I have an issue with- it's really the 'clientele' that ruin this place. The d-bag factor is EXTREMELY high... Halligan Bar is just ok. I hadn't been there for a few years and was remembering it being different for some reason. It's really small and when my friend and I met up there at 10 pm last night (Friday) it was already packed wall to wall with GUYS. The guy to girl ratio was like 5:1. But they have $3 Blue Moon every day which is pretty awesome if you are in the mood for beer. I have been to this bar a bunch of times and I wouldn't call it a favorite but I always enjoy myself here. It's kind of loud, but I like the seats by the window when it's open, they have good drink specials, so you never really feel like you're spending mortgage/rent money when you go there for a few beers. Halligans was my go-to spot when I lived in Lincoln Park, but I still visit when I'm in the neighborhood. Great drink specials and fun atmosphere. However, on weekends this place is packed. This is my go to bar, but I'll give an honest review. This is a good spot to go get schnookered with your friends. Prices are VERY good for Chicago. The bar smells like beer and it's usually 80% dudes. As I said, you go here with your buddies to enjoy each others' drunken company that won't put a hole in your pocket. If the place was totally emptied and I was allowed to bring all of my friends then maybe it would be a cool place to drink, but since it's filled with every 21-22 year old Depaul brat it's not really a fun time. The place gets packed and has a very weird layout. You will get constantly bumped by kids that think they own the world and it gets old quick. Love Halligan Bar. How can you complain about $3 Blue Moons, Guinness, and Effen Vodka drinks....ANYTIME!? The bar is obviously owned by Chicago Firefighters and has a great friendly vibe. Lots of cool fire department memorabilia on the walls. It's an "open air" bar so if you sit up front you can enjoy the summer air. read more

I'm still not sure what I think of Halligan. The drink specials were good, we were in town for a wedding and had gone to Halligans the nite before the wedding...looked like a historic building being pie shaped and all that. Halligan is another one of those bars that makes me wish I had a half star. 3.5 stars would be about perfect. The place has some really killer specials, which is nice on a Saturday night in Lincoln Park where you would normally pay through the teeth. 3 dollars for Jameson shots, 5 dollar O Bombs, and 3 dollar Stoli Strawberry drinks were all noted and vastly appreciated by myself and my party. Hit this joint for cold suds and to take in the USA vs. Ghana game. This place had TV's galore and the fans were packed-in for the game! We had the best seat in the house, by the door with the open patio-like window to or backs for leaning on. After squeezing through everyone to get to the back for the single use men's room, it became ever so clear that your best bet for quick and clean relief was crossing the street to Starbucks or Chipotle. read more

What a gem of a neighborhood bar! Visiting from out of town, popped in on a random Wednesday and felt immediately like one of the regulars. Amazing drink specials everyday, beautiful and fun bartendresses and very accepting regulars. Came in several times on my trip and the bouncers and bartenders remembered me and no matter how busy, I got great service. Great place to watch a game or just get a buzz. read more

This is one of my favorite neighborhood bars I'm the area. It's super close to my house, so it's an easy goto. It is a favorite hotspot for local DePaul students also, so I don't go all the time due to my age. But the staff is really great and you really can't beat the drink specials they have. This bar is awesome. I've visited when it has been both busy and a little dead, but had the same great fun regardless. The specials they have are the reason I keep coming back. $3 Fireball shots every day to accompany my $4 Jack & Coke. It was a great experience until I ordered a drink and was then asked to leave because it was closing time at 1:40am when closing is supposed to be at 2:00am. My drink was picked up and thrown out by the bouncer after I had paid for it just 30 seconds beforehand. Think twice about getting a drink when last call is called. I was hitting some bars this past week with a group of Friends who were mostly all from out of town. We decided to stop in because of the decent deals Halligans seemed to have. All I can say is this place sucked. After the bouncer gave everyone of my friends a hard time for their out of state Ids that he assumed were fake we went to the bar where it took way to long for one of the bartenders to acknowledge we were there. Once they did we were overcharged because we didn't get the deals for that day. All I can say is after our first drink we left. Went to kelseys across the street for one dollar budlight. First time going to Halligan bar and surely won't be my last. Arrived at 7 pm on Tuesday to catch up with a friend and enjoy the Bulls game. Place was pretty empty but it was still early. Around 10 pm the place started getting busy and the party was kicking in. Halligan is a good chill spot. When I first moved to Chicago I came here because my friends loved it. I was skeptical bc it was small, full of dudes, and near a college campus. Oh how I was wrong!
