We were looking for a new place and came across this small restaurant tucked away in a little shopping center. There is parking but it's right. Street parking is available if you can find one. We had lunch on a quiet Saturday. I have to say that the food is delicious. I ordered the marinated chicken lunch box and beef dumplings. The different flavors and spices were delightful. The chicken was a little spicy for those who don't want spicy. The portions were satisfying. As good as Korean food gets ... ANYWHERE. We strolled into this unassuming, small and relatively quiet Korean restaurant on a nice summer Saturday evening. The restaurant is located diagonal of the Whole Foods in Ridgewood and with all of the attention paid to the super market, it's quite easy to miss the small strip that Hama is part of. When we first walked in around 5:30pm, there was 1 couple dining inside and, by the time we left, there were only 2 tables occupied other than ours, so foot traffic was unsurprisingly (and surprisingly based on the food) super duper light. The menu had all of the Korean classics - Japchae/noodles, bibimbaps and tofu stews. To start we ordered the Beef Baos (2pcs) and Seafood Pancake (4 pcs). First, we thought we might have ordered 1 appetizer too many with the baos, but this might have been the BEST thing we ordered! Beef was tender, delicious and plentiful within the baos. The Seafood Pancake was good too and a solid pick if you're seeking a simple appetizer. For entrees, we got the Seafood Tofu with Clam, Mussel, Shrimp and Stir-Fried Vermicelli Noodles with Beef. The Seafood Tofu came out piping, boiling, bubbling hot and was served with a side of white rice. It was excellent. Some of the best stew tofu I've ever, ever, ever had. The Japchae/vermicelli noodles with beef was delicious too - specifically, the beef was very flavorful and tender like the beef for the baos. It seems Hama is seriously underappreciated in the neighborhood and that's a shame for them, but a big win for diners like us who love finding those gems. Went to HAMA Korean Cuisine for lunch on a Sunday. It used to be called Tofu House and it was OK then and it's about the same despite the name change. It's a small restaurant in a strip mall with it's own parking. They serve Korean food obviously. We placed our orders and the food came very quickly, less than 10 minutes. We got the beef bimbimbap in a hot stone bowl as well as marinated chicken lunch special with glass noodles. The beef bibimbap was good, it has a lot of meat and vegetables to mix with the gochujang and rice. The marinated chicken was a bit sweet for my liking. I wish they had kept it separate from the glass noodles (japchae) because the marinade made my noodles very sweet too. It's one of the few Korean restaurants in the area, but I would definitely rather go to one of the restaurants in Palisades Park if I had a craving for Korean food. read more

Had a lovely lunch here on Wednesday with a friend. We had a great time catching up while enjoying some great food. We were quickly seated, and were brought water. It was a hot day so I appreciated that. My friend frequents this restaurant and the owner, Joanne, had a lovely conversation with her. She brought us kimchi and other sides, all of which were tasty and a great treat. I had the bulgogi and vermicelli noodles from the lunch menu, and my friend had bibimbap. Everything was delicious! The flavor combinations were incredible. We sat for close to 2 hours, talking and eating, and just having a wonderful time. We ordered takeout for the family and tried a variety of dishes, including the tofu soup, kalbi, bibimbap, and a few others. While everything looked fine, the flavor just wasn't there. Nothing stood out as particularly tasty, and overall the food felt flat or off balance. We are visiting from California (Bay Area) for the holidays, so we know a thing or two about Asian foods, and had a craving for Korean. We were initially hesitant to try due to the limited options around Ramsey area. Boy, were we wrong! The food was fantastic! HAMA is a small establishment with limited seatings (dine early!), and somewhat small Korean menu, but with nice options! It has a mom-and-pop feel to it, so they make you feel welcomed. They also offer an array of sushi selections, as well. Unfortunately, we didn't order any sushi, so no reviews on that . We ordered the #1 bulgogi with japchae (glass noodles) lunch box; and soft tofu stew with tofu and veggies and rice. The lunch box came with more than we expected as you can see. Aside from the bulgogi and japchae, it came with 4 California rolls, tempura veggies, fish cakes, rice, and miso soup! The tofu stew was perfectly spiced and more: Plenty of veggies and flavor, and they are true to their spiciness level, as I got spicy. Excellent! In addition to this, the usual banchan (complimentary side dishes) were served alongside our meals. In California, it's common to have about 6-8 banchan; however, this restaurant serves only three: kimchi, pickled cucumbers, and sliced fish cakes (and salad). Depending on the establishment, the banchan can vary. Although this was a minor letdown, it was of no issue. Plenty of food for all! We had leftovers for another meal! Finally, we were so impressed with the food that we ordered another #1 bulgogi lunch box to go!!!! Even more food! We will come back one more time before we fly back home. I've been coming here since they first opened. The restaurant has gone through a few name changes over the years, and I'm not sure if the ownership has changed -- but the current owner is a really cool, friendly guy. They've had some ups and downs with consistency, but for the past year or so (as of April 2025), the food has been solid -- and I've been loving it. It feels like a local, family-owned spot, and I'd love to continue supporting them. It's a hidden gem where you don't need to drive all the way to Hackensack or Fort Lee to enjoy good Korean food. The tofu soup on the other hand was too salty to even describe. Had to ask for hot water to dilute it. Yet was still so bad to eat. Left it and yet was still charged for the worst soup experience. I have become a regular at HAMA since there's no comparable Korean restaurant within a 10 mile radius. The prices also are reasonable and there is a dedicated parking lot for the restaurant. Today I came in on a Monday night around 7PM and it was quite busy. Many families and groups came in all at once, but the staff was still incredibly quick and attentive. Love at first sight! I've never had such delicious pajeon (Korean pancakes). As a takeout pickup order, I got two of their famous pancakes - the vegetable version, which are happily vegan. I was so excited to receive them in personal pizza boxes (that's how huge they are!). It was of the best Korean food I've had, as well as some of the best vegan food I've had. They're listed as entrees and each costed $14.50, which I think is very fair, as they're very large, filling, and well-made. They also came with a sauce that tasted like tempura sauce (a bit lighter and tangier than soy sauce). The man who helped me when I arrived was also very sweet, and even offered me free banchan of fish cakes and kimchi! Neither are vegan, but neither is my fiancée, and we really appreciated Hama's generosity. The inside of the restaurant also looked lovely and clean. My one wish is that they'd add vegan nokdujeon / bindae-tteok (mung bean pancakes) to their menu. That would be dope. Anyway, I just moved to Ridgewood from Ridgefield, where I had access to a LOT of amazing Korean food, and I'm very impressed by Hama. It's definitely my new favorite local restaurant. We decided to come here on a Saturday night, and I recommend making a reservation if they take it. We were lucky to get a table, as the restaurant is fairly small. Service is good, and food came out in a timely manner. The menu is easy to read and figure out what you like. The entrees come with the small sides, which were all delicious. We had bao buns as an appetizer and then my husband had the LA Kal bi and I had bulgogi as entrees. There was a lot of food, definitely enough to take home. Overall generally good service with a good meal, I think it would make good take out as well. read more

We had the fried chicken wings in soy garlic flavor and that was very crispy but the flavor was missing that sweet and garlic flavor and it was way too salty. Definitely needs training. The waitress is terrible at their job. The food is eh. Galbi that is served with 3-4 full pieces cut into each bone slice. The flavor is terrible and sour to the point you second thought whether it is fresh or spoiled. Lastly more than half of it was burnt. The fact that the waitress cant see that is terrible. As a local, this is the closest you're going to get to authentic sundubu jjigae without driving another 30+ plus minutes. Portions are better for takeout than dining in. Ask for mixed rice (purple rice) instead of the standard white rice. I don't recommend the wings if you're looking for bonchon (double fried crispy wings).
