I'm a fan of Hama Sushi! I didn't know that they had an actual brick-and-mortar in Herndon, but I was able to stop by their sushi counter at a local hospital's food court. I was excited to find this place, as I love sushi and maki rolls - their menu included salads, specialty rolls, maki rolls, sushi combinations, as well as a chef's special. I ordered: +a Salmon Avocado Roll +a Spicy Tuna Roll Both these rolls were made-to-order; the salmon and the tuna were super fresh, the sushi rice was cooked perfectly, and, the sets come with a packet of soy sauce, a mound of wasabi, and pickled ginger. Such a filling meal, as the amount of fish was generous - I could usually scarf down 2-3 rolls, but I was struggling with just 1 set! Service was super friendly and welcoming, and very kind! Be sure to check out this local sushi spot out! +delicious, fresh maki rolls +friendly & kind staff

It was just ok. I got the spider roll tiger roll and salmon. The place itself was nice and staff was great

Great chef! He made us the spicy tuna sandwich, futomaki as prefect as though we were in Japan, and one of the best hamachi kamas ever. Nice decor and unbelievably fair price. Fresh fish and even fresher nori. What a change from some of the other sushi bars.

Worst Tonkatsu ramen I ever had... and it is pricey, too! You may be better off buying cup noodles from the Giant grocery store next door.

Oh my goodness! I love this place. I wish I lived closer. Stopped for dinner on the way back from the airport. They are SO friendly and welcoming here. The food here was very good and more than substantial for our family of 3! Our lovely server (forgot to get her name because I was too busy captivated by their hospitality!) gave us complimentary miso soup and yummy strawberries at the end. Would be very fun to take the whole family here! They have a really cute back room for parties more than 6.

This is our favorite local sushi place! The staff is so kind and friendly, and the food is always delicious and beautifully plated. Our absolute must-have is the sweet potato roll! Perfect for a casual date night.

HERNDON, VA 05/02/19 LUNCH -Unfortunately, I was subjected to food poisoning that evening through the next morning. -The customer service was lacking and very slow. -The fish was not fresh. The sushi lunch buffet spot, Matsutake, closed down so my coworkers and I don't really know where to go to get our raw fish fix on. Send some suggestions my way, please!

Recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Watched the chef place every thing with care, skill, and enjoyment. I in turn savored every bit. Really loved the spicy scallop. Everything was fresh and tasty.

This is the best place to eat sushi or teriyaki salmon if you are in the Dulles or Herndon area. Hama Sushi is a family owned business that provides excellent service with a charming music selection. It's also a great place for large group lunches or corporate dinners. Additionally they have Tatami Room if you would like an authentic Japanese dining experience.

I normally do not eat raw sushi only cooked but the spread I had was very much to my liking. I enjoy each and every bite of my food. You gotta try it. You will not be disappointed! I will be coming back again when I visit.

Great sushi, friendly staff, and relaxing atmosphere. I had the spicy roll combo and my companion had the curry-both were excellent.

They were extremely accommodating and always on top of everything. Also, thank you for the adorable plushie! I loved the usage of paned window walls to let in more natural sunlight, allowing for a vibrant and warm visit sitting inside. Notes: Wasn't the biggest fan of the pink lady roll; thought the usage of soybean paper was unique but the texture was off. The end piece of my rainbow roll only having cucumber was also disappointing. The hot bar selections and sushi rolls were decent but nothing to write home to. HOWEVER, the large selection of quality sashimi cuts included in the dinner AYCE with great portions was the best part. Most restaurants would offer it as a la carte or give small cuts/selections so was pleasantly surprised. Service wise wasn't the happiest with where I was seated as the floor was still wet but the servers had to trek over it as well (should've been more adamant on sitting elsewhere).

We ultimately enjoyed our meal and will likely try it again the next time we need a change of pace from our go-to spot. The menu possesses a vast array of rolls, the majority of which hover between $15-18. Seeing the prices of the rolls and not knowing what to expect, we ended up ordering six, which ended up as too much food for the two of us. We found the rolls all well constructed and with generous quantities of the fish. The rice itself was passable. The sliced fish quality was decent, and we found the salmon and tuna particularly fresh. The "spicy" fish in the rolls left something to be desired in both the degree of spice/seasoning as well as freshness. The rolls all could have used a bit more saucing, but we enjoyed them nonetheless. The prices here are very reasonable, especially if you order online which yields a 10% discount. My order was prepared more or less on time. Overall, we liked what we sampled and will return in the near future to sample more rolls. Kumo does not quite supplant our usual sushi spot, but it's a welcome addition to a takeout rotation and worth a shot for roll lovers.

When Kusshi opened, we gave it some time to settle in. We were here on a Sunday for an early dinner. Even though we arrived early (around 4 p.m.), a few tables were already occupied. As we entered the place, a party of four was right behind us. So it seems popular. After looking at what was available (the menu is a la carte), we placed our orders. We started with our drink orders. I ordered a hot cup of genmaicha, only to be told they were all out--bad news on such a cold day. The server offered to bring me a hot cup of barley water, which I declined and stuck with tap water. My husband ordered a Kirin Light beer. For an appetizer, we chose shishito peppers, and we both ordered miso soup. The sizable portion of peppers was well-grilled and flavored. Shishitos are tricky. For the most part, they are mild peppers. However, like Anaheim peppers, sometimes a hot pepper shows up. The first two I ate, oh...they were hot. The rest were mild. We ordered miso soup. It arrived steaming hot. It was excellent. It was a larger serving than what most Japanese restaurants provide. It had a generous amount of tofu and green onions. It was almost a meal in itself. For my main course, I chose a "rainbow roll" which consists of: "California roll with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail". It was a very generous-sized roll, well assembled. The wasabi and ginger portion was quite adequate. A bottle of low-sodium soy sauce is placed on the table. I really enjoyed this roll. My husband ordered the "Teriyaki dinner" which consists of "grilled protein, stir-fried seasonal vegetables served with steamed rice and teriyaki sauce. The choice of proteins are chicken, salmon, or shrimp. He chose chicken. It was quite a sizable portion, so we took some home to have for lunch the next day. At one point during the meal, our server brought us each a cup of hot barley water (to make up for not having hot tea). Since barley doesn't agree with me, I passed on it. Overall, the service was very friendly and efficient. The vibe definitely says "Japanese restaurant" with the decor and the requisite sushi bar. One drawback is the sound level. And, yes, we will go again.
