Hamburgao is eggcellent! This place puts together a burger in various ways!!! One burger they slap a sunny side up egg on! It is delicious!!! There is a plethora of toppings that this place will chuck on a burger from potato sticks to eggs to corn to who knows what else. It is all so tasty. The fries are great with the side dippings. If you are a burger lover - just go. The menu is more extensive then burgers and I imagine it is all flavorful! Also, prices are most bargainous! Newark really has some gems! read more

Hamburgao is very much a guilty pleasure. I love the cheese tudo, which is a hamburger with just about everything on it. From potato sticks to corn, this burger has it all! The only thing that is not great is, oddly, the hamburger itself. It is really dry, and therefore seriously benefits from all of the toppings. If you are really averse to dry burgers, try the hot dog. It doesn't have all of the toppings, but it has quite a few, and it is soo good. Also, a note on the neighborhood: Newark is, of course, a little scary. But Hamburgao's neighborhood is much better than the scarier side of the city. It is in the Ironbound, which is super residential. So don't let anyone scare you off! read more

Hard to find parking space being that the streets are going in a one way direction in a very tight ally. Food was mediocre when I took it to go. Maybe there might a difference if I sit in. People at the register looked like they where not thankful that they have a job, which made me feel like customer service was not one of their priorities. Hamburgao looks like the kind of place I would find back home -- interior looks like a down-to-earth deli that you could probably find high schoolers in. I ordered the Cheese Tudo and was underwhelmed. The random combination of ham all the way to potato sticks just didn't mesh well to me and it's one of those times where the phrase "less is actually more" makes complete sense. I also hate when burgers just fall apart so at the end of my meal I had a piece of bread there, meat over there and potato sticks everywhere. I found myself daydreaming of Shake Shack. The burgers taste amazing and are pretty unique. My favorite being the sirloin burger, it'll definitely fill you up and in some cases you'll probably take half of it home. This place serves great hamburgers, they totally re-invented the burger. Different styles of meats, dressings, sides which go inside the burger. Actually very good. Unlike what other posters have stated, this placed has no Mediterranean or Portuguese influence on the menu. Also unlike what was posted by someone, Portuguese cuisine is not that big in meats. Brazilian cuisine is, however. This is simply a growing burger joint with Brazilian flair. Deliciously different! If you want a regular hamburger, this is not the place to go. Hamburgao translated from Portuguese, means big hamburger. They serve a Brazilian twist on the hamburger, and they are big. Also, they serve grilled chicken sandwiches. My favorite is the California Beef and California Frango. There hamburgers, instead of ground beef, consist of thinly (although not too thin/don't think of cheese steak thin) sirloin steak, and they are delicious. The California is served with mozzarella, lettuce, ham, tomatoes, mayo and pineapple on a soft hamburger bun. The California Frango is served the same way, but it includes chicken breast instead of steak. The fries always have been hot and crispy. One of the California sandwiches and a large fry will cost around $10, and it is large enough to share, if one feels so inclined. The restaurant is small, but I have never had to wait long for a table. The service has always been mediocre at best. The drinks are in a cooler, where you can just grab your own. I do not recommend the juices, as they are way overpriced. I still give the a 5 though, because I have been several times, and the food always has been fresh, hot, and scrumptious. Every time I visit Newark, I try to stop in for my favorite, as I have not found anything close anywhere else. If you are stopping in for the first time, definitely try one of the sandwiches with the steak. read more

I ordered for delivery and I must say is the worst thing I ever done. First of all, the delivery came very late (like 1 1/2 hrs) and my burger was cold (I ordered a California Frango) and I thought, ok maybe I can re-heat it but once I opened it, I almost puke of how bad it was. I remember the "cheese tudo" truck that was always strategically parked by the train station late at night, waiting for people returning from partying in NY and looking for some after drinks food! This chain makes it way more accessible. I'll usually have my food delivered, never a problem. I always get a cheese bacon, fries and risolis de carne. I usually come here for their desserts and codfish pastry. They are really good. I've been to both their Kearny and Newark locations. The staff speak both English and Portuguese. Maybe even Spanish...idk. I walked in today (Newark location) and was dying to order two codfish patries and flan with brazilian chocolate sauce. I ordered a Hamburgao Beef and fries by phone, and the food definitely met my expectations. I've been coming to Hamburgao since 2002. Their sandwiches are so delicious. They put everything and its mother on these burgers. But that's not all they're doing. If I'm not destroying the "Hamburgao Frango" or "Da Casa" sandwiches, I typically opt for the house soup (taste like your grandma made it) or the chicken pie, mandioca (fried yuca) com linguisa (brazilian sausage), or the grilled chicken salad, Empada De Bacalhau (cod fish croquet) the croquets with shrimp. They are are all tasty and great substitutes! Well, I've been to this place many times, usually coxinha e quibe are very good. I ordered empada de frango, and I didn't like it. I am Brazilian and i love empadas. I would suggest a better filling. The filling was too white, no flavor, no seasonings, nothing. Little piece of olive only. Everything else was very good. As the cook to bake a better empada, or change the supplier. There is still your traditional burger on the menu but all the other options really gave it a different twist.
