I was very excited to try The Hamburger House since I've heard such good things about it but I was pretty disappointed. I ordered the cheese burger with fries. The patty was super thin, overcooked, and dry. You couldn't get tomatoes or lettuce to go on your burger which I thought was weird. My daughter ordered the chicken sandwich and she said it was blah and dry. Again no lettuce or tomato for your sandwich. The fries,mozzarella sticks, and cheese sauce was good. Also the ice cream looked good. Another nice thing about this place is that their food is cheaper but other than that, it was disappointing overall. read more

What a cute throwback place from days long ago. It's so quaint as you walkup to get your old fashioned ice cream. There is no table service and it's cash only so be warned. This place is the opposite of fancy and expensive. We got burgers and fries of course with cheese. All very delicious for way less than 10 bucks a person. I've heard so many good things about this place and it lived up to the talk! I had the double cheeseburger with onion rings and Mac and cheese bites. Everything was made dress and delicious. I really enjoyed the burger and the onion rings were better than most I've had. The Mac and cheese bites were also delicious! They had plenty of seating and parking for everyone! I've passed by this place a couple of times so finally we decided to stop and get a bit to eat. It was a great Sunday afternoon so the place was pretty busy with a line waiting to order. It took about 5 minutes before we had a chance to order but it took over 15 minutes to get our food. In other cases I might be a little ticked off that it took so long for food from a "take-out" stand, but they have plenty of picnic tables to hang out at and it was nice watching the people come and go. While the food is not earth-shatteringly great, it is really good and worth the wait, as it was all made fresh and hot. Both my wife and I had the brat burger (a burger patty topped with a split brat) which was really good, unfortunately the girl working the counter messed up. My wife order hers with ketchup, mustard, onion, pickle and mayo. I ordered the same but no mayo. It ended up coming with mayo on it also. Not a big deal but still... My daughter ordered a grilled cheese and I was surprised that it was made with cheddar instead of American cheese-great for an adult but maybe not great for kids. My daughter wasn't too fond of it. We also got fries and onion rings, both good. We didn't get ice cream as we were going to get some "desserts" somewhere else, but I saw the size of the scoops they were giving out and it was one heck of a deal. The place is opened seasonally. Not sure when they open but they close down mid October. Overall, for what it is, the place is really good, not great but really good, especially considering it is just a simple burger stand. If you find yourself traveling the Kettle Moraine Scenic Trail it is definitely worth a stop. read more

Popular and Unique ice cream stand and grille. Love their (Nacho) Cheese Fries. The "Single" ice cream cone for ~$2.50 is GIGANTIC! As tall as a 20oz plastic Coke bottle, easily. It must be at least a full 3-4 scoops! Incredible value. I wouldn't attempt it on a humid day. Ask for a small empty cup (free) and a spoon, that way you can dump the top of your ice cream cone into the cup when it begins to become unstable atop the cone, and finish it at your leisure after you finish the cone. I enjoyed the "Firecracker" flavor which is strawberry flavored pink ice cream, with Pop Rocks Candy bits mixed in - but a reasonable amount, not overwhelming like some NERDS ice creams I've had elsewhere. Maybe 1 out of every 10-20 licks resulted in the popping sensation Pop Rocks are famous for. I think they are Cedar Crest ice creams. Be advised, this is a very good little "Haus" in a small town in the middle of nowhere (the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit which is full of neat glacier formations), so this place gets quite busy on nice days. Still I felt service was good when I visited a few days ago even though it was busy enough that we had 1 of our party sit down to claim an open table. Note theres a large wooden shelter/gazebo structure in the back (Northeast of the main building, at the far end of the North parking lot), with a bunch more picnic tables you can sit at in case the front is full. When you get finished with a 13 mile hike and you are starving HAMBURGER HAUS hits the spot!!! What a perfect find!!! Where else can you get a single cheeseburger and cheese fries for less than $5??? Hamburger Haus I tell you. The place is adorable, with it's swiss chalet trim on the top. Walk up to the window and order. Picnic tables abound for devouring your grub. Burgers are small and overcooked, but bun is not your typically cheap bun (rather it is a squarish type ciabatta, perhaps???). For $1.45, I am not complaining. I think they used real cheddar cheese and not American cheese, nice touch. Cheese fries, were meh. I think I would have liked the fries minus the cheese better (even though I was totally in the mood for fake-nacho cheese, this was just taste-less). Then came the Cedar Crest Wisconsin icecream cones. Seriously, a single scoop was like the size of the triple at Oberweis. All for under $2 (this included a huge waffle cone). I had the chocolate, which was not bad (it actually got better as I ate more.... strange). My friend had butter pecan in a cup and enjoyed it as well. So, don't go and expect a great burger. Go for the atmosphere (locals, bikers, families, all outside enjoying the evening in a cute small, small town), quick service and oh so affordable price. read more
