If I had to describe this place, it would be an up north saloon. Theres a beautiful bar and high top tables made from tree trunks. They have a large menu with a variety of options. I will have to say they have more than enough options for a Friday fish fry so everyone in your party can have something a little different. We decided to try the crawfish Cajun soup and I could drink a bucket of it. It. Was. Amazing. We also had ordered two different kinds of fish fry. I recommend the original breaded fish over the beer battered. I had gotten the captains catch and you better bring your appetite. They fill your plate and make you don't leave hungry! Headed north to Green Bay, searching for a place to have lunch, and was pleased to find Jug's on my way. Not only is the building rustic and historic, but the people are friendly and the food is excellent. There was a small wait, maybe 5 minutes, and I was seated. A waitress came around promptly when I was done reviewing my options. She was great, and her engagement felt like honest genuine hospitality, not transactional - which is how I feel most engagement is in customer service these days. I decided to shy away from the burgers but wanted to choose something flagged as one of the most popular items, the McJuggers Reuben. It had generous portions of corned beef and loaded with flavor. The taste was amazing. On the side, I opted for the waffle fries, which I'm typically unimpressed with in most locations, but here they were cooked perfectly, and we're crisp. We happened to go on Monday night which is buy one get one free sandwich night. 30 min wait at 5 pm. Burgers and chicken breasts. We each ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Delicious. There was a stray mushroom on my chicken so I'm glad I wasn't allergic or averse. The ranch was a bit runny/watery to put on top of a sandwich. Large strips of bacon. Fresh lettuce. Pickles. Soft bun. Salad was good. Homemade peppercorn and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Service was great. Food took a little while, but you can see the grill behind the bar and it's not very big which is why the 1 lb burgers are not available on Mondays. Ok by me!! Outdoor seating features open scroll tabletops which aren't completely flat so food can fall through. Napkins and flatware come in a caddy with ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper. There's a nice waterfall surrounding an outdoor fireplace on the two level patio. Large horse sculpture. Very nice. We were required to buy beverages which didn't add much in the way of cost. A 16 oz bottle of Sprecher root beer was a mere 3 bucks. Upgraded to salads for $1.95 each. Everything added up to $28 before gratuity!! We will be back. read more

Stopped in here by chance during a Saturday drive for a respite and to wet our whistles. We figured it was a good place to go after seeing a bunch of cars in the parking lot and checking out the Yelp reviews. We bellyed up to the bar at about 4:45 PM and after smelling and seeing the plated food others were eating, we decided to stay for dinner. The bartenders were gracious, friendly and helpful when ordering both drinks and food. Saturday here is prime rib night, so .... yep, got a slab that was excellent. It is served with au jus on the plate and some extra on the side. Your choice of soup or salad and either veggies of the day or your choice of potato. The salad was a small plate of mixed greens and I had my choice of four or five dressings. Our other order was (on the regular menu) the chicken Parmesan sammie. Gooey, cheesy and mouthwatering good. Otherwise, we saw that the popular item being eaten here are the burgers, which looked outstanding. The "spiral fries" and waffle fries were good, but I'll get the baked potato with the prime rib next time. Again, the bartenders and staff here are all smiles and efficient. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. You'll be comfortable here with your kids and dressed very casually. (Probably not a good idea for a large group, though). I was STARVING when we arrived and there was a 20 minute wait so I got a little hangry. But that was resolved when I got my food. I ordered the salmon bruschetta sandwich with their swirly fries (I think that's what they were called) and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. The balsamic on the sandwich was so good and the cheese bread it was served on was so soft. My mom ordered a half rack of ribs and ate all of it (unusual for her). I was going through my list of bookmarks and trying to find a place that was open on a Monday during the COVID-19 pandemic, in which restaurants are cutting back days and hours that they are open, that had some sort of special that wasn't pizza. Needless to say my options weren't plentiful, but luckily Jugs Hitching Post was one. I had been here once before years ago and wanted to check them out again anyway. My order consisted of cheese curds and a 1 lb cheeseburger with waffle fries. The cheese curds were fairly standard. Some of the pieces were on the small side so there was more breading than cheese. I think $8 is a little much for the plate I was given and I'm not sure I would get them again solely based on the price. I did enjoy how they tasted, though. The specials page on their website indicated they had buy one get one burgers and all you can eat shrimp specials on Monday. The little specials card on my table, however, did not mention the shrimp. I asked when my server arrived and she told me it was only the burger special. Not sure if that's a temporary change or permanent change, but the website should be updated regardless so they don't advertise a special they don't have. When I asked about ordering buy one get one 1/2 lb burgers, I inquired about taking the second one to go. I was told that they would prefer the food be eaten there to count towards the special. She then offered to do a 1 lb burger for the cost of a 1/2 lb burger. Since I didn't need the second bun and piece of lettuce anyway, I told her that was fine. I didn't hear what the other side options were after waffle fries because that was the first one she named and it sounded good. The burger patty itself had a very strong char flavor. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it was hard to tell if the patty was seasoned because all I could taste was char. I appreciated that there were three or four pieces of cheese on the burger because it was very wide and had a lot of surface area to cover. I thought it was cooked perfectly as medium. The waffle fries maybe had some salt on them and that was it. Seasoned or battered waffle fries would have been preferable. It was odd that only half of the staff was wearing masks and frustrating that there was no semblance of distancing customers or limiting capacity. The place was pretty packed and it did not look at all like they had taken tables out or were blocking certain tables. Very irresponsible during the current COVID-19 pandemic. read more

The Friday Fish Fry is my favorite in the area because they offer baked, as well as fried, fish. The baked fish is well prepared and plentiful. PLUS, the potato pancakes, which are a must for me, tasted great and were perfectly crisp. Served with maple syrup AND apple sauce, the pancakes were the complete package. Been there a few times and was extremely satisfied. This time not so much. Had reservations at 6 for 6. Got seated at 7 and ate at a little before 8. Ribs were dry. Medium rare prime rib was cold. Medium rare ribeye was blue/raw. I know new years is a busy time and things backlog but an hour late on a reservation doesn't make me want to come back. I will return and give it another try when it's less busy but as far as New years never again. read more

Cutest Bar/Grill in Kohlsville about 30(ish) miles north of Milwaukee - friendly welcoming staff, great bar food - burgers, apps, etal. BTK had the Bourbon burger (special for Wednesday) also had the Duck tenders and a grilled chicken chopped salad - all fresh and tasty. Just what you want from bar food. Stopped in on our way back to Appleton after an appointment at Froedert Medical Center because we saw a billboard on the way down. My hubby uses a walker to be ambulatory, and they were super helpful in getting him in and making him totally comfortable. It was a Wednesday night around 5:30 and you could see that the place was going to be completely packed in another hour. The food is great & we love the beer battered haddock fish fry. We have always had excellent service with very friendly waiters and bartenders. They all make you feel like they are so happy to see you! But our last visit had a very upsetting surprise. After we were seated and throughout our meal, the people sitting next to us had a large dog under their table. When they got up their VERY LARGE DOG came out from under their table. This was not a service dog in any way. Now I actually like dogs but am highly allergic to them. As the dog moved he was quite smelly and I got a couple of whiffs of him. By the time we finished, and I was back in my car I was wheezing and had to use my rescue inhaler. There was NO reason for this pet to be in a restaurant and the person seating them should have asked them to leave. Double craziness is this restaurant has a beautiful outdoor patio dining area where they could have been seated. I still am shocked this dog was allowed in the restaurant. I would like to be sure dogs are not allowed in the dining area before I go back. read more

The best fish fry, period. Jason Jug and his family have been in the restaurant business for generations for a reason, they just do it right! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The mouthwatering burgers are huge, the pizza is excellent, and all the appetizers are amazing. Ribs are also a personal favorite. If you're in a rush, consider carry out because they are usually busy. Came out to Jugs for Jam Fest to see Rebel Grace the headliner. With 4 friends. We ended up running into 6 more friends from West Bend. Thankfully the support staff got the attention of the bartender who got caught up in conversation it was busy, ok, she later became more attentive afterwards. The kitchen supposedly has great food according to two yelpers, but they stop at 9:00. To clean the grill. We asked if there was any burgers or food in the tent. She said no and said the kitchen may be able to make a pizza. We ended up with a large sausage pizza. The pizza had a good sauce the cheese and crust were tasty with the exception of the leading edge got burned. My guess was the oven has a hot spot or it was left on the conveyor feed too long. The sausage was put on unevenly, many pieces had no sausage and some had 4+ see picture. At the concert we found out the tent actually had all kinds of food brats burgers beer and a full liquor bar! -1 star for dishonesty. This should never happened which was sort of a downer as you can imagine. Food 3 pizza was ok could use a little more attention for a great pizza is not impossible. Since all the ingredients were good. Ambiance 4 good Amt of patio heaters large tent. Nice bar downstairs. Service 4 couldn't improve, as greatness is within reach. I have been here with the family numerous times and will return. Jug's is somewhat of a hit or miss type of place. I think they are most popular for the Friday deep fried fish fry. The portions are generally generous. There are times when the fish is spot on second to none and other times when the fish have somewhat of a fishy taste. Is that odd to say fish tastes fishy? The place is a bar and the dining area is worked in snug with the bar area. Know that if you come here on a Friday evening it will be somewhat loud and people will likely be standing around near you while you dine. The service has the same hit/miss characteristics as the food. There is a very nice patio area for outdoor dining. A recent Sunday afternoon my wife and I tried stopping for lunch. We sat at a patio table for 15 minutes before walking out and during our wait time the server only once said she'd be with us in a moment. I think during the busier times the wait staff is understaffed and they get a little overwhelmed. I've only ever had the fish but others in my family do claim the burgers are quite good. Visited in-laws in West Bend and of course had to go to Friday night fish fry, Wisconsin staple. They try to take us to a different place when we visit and Jugs is just down the road from West Bend so off we went. They said it's quickly becoming their favorite and we had to go by 4 or wait would be too long. Lol I know, 4:00 PM is a little early for us also but since we missed lunch while driving it sounded great. Big parking lot and easy to find with their big sign. And in laws were right, it was already busy. Had about a 15 min wait actually but well worth it. Nice menu and drinks are all served as double, "bonus". Not the fanciest Old Fashion I've had but good. Seating is inside or outside which is nice this time of year also. Food came out quick and it was very good. Not sure I've ever had a bad fish fry but everyone is friendly, staff, and all the locals who are patiently waiting. No one seems to mind. The wait offers a chance to visit, and enjoy ur beverage. Really wanted a great burger tonight and remembered that I went to Jugs many years ago and liked it. Tonight my hopes came true. I got my "go to" cheeseburger, with just mayo, lettuce and raw onions on it. It was simply amazing. It had just the right amount of pink and melted in my mouth. I got the "spiral" fries(first time), and they were fantastic. From the first one to the last, they were cooked perfectly, and was sad when they were gone, even though I was stuffed. It was VERY busy while we were there, but the wait staff was definitely on their game, because we got our food QUICK! Even though I'm talking burgers and fries, tonight's meal was simply amazing and I couldn't have been happier with the quality of food and service. After Spending a Christmas in mayville with the family and we've seen the billboards as we've come to and from so on our way back from north Fond du Lac decided to check this place out and I always check out the burgers every time a new place I had the Buckhorn and my fiancé had a cheeseburger and added bacon. The server was young and polite. Very attentive and we got our food really fast refilled our sodas right away and made sure that we were content he didn't even blink twice when she said that her burger was supposed to come with bacon he just grabbed it and said he'll be right back if there was anything negative that I had to say is that there were some young men that were over by the slots that Were swearing up a shit storm and there were kids that were young enough to not want or be around to hear this kind of language and no one went over and said anything to anyone. I thought it was inappropriate to hear things like suck a dick when there were five and six-year-olds with parents up at the bar but I had a pleasant experience and I will be back. Must be the only place in town. It was crowded figured it must be good. Fish was over cooked. Tasted like jerky. Was told there was an hour wait time upon arrival. Excellent experience! The waiter was amazing. Friendly and attentive. Respected that we wanted some time to visit and have cocktails before ordering. The Ahi Tuna was delicious! The jumbo shrimp was as well. My stepdad ordered the steak sandwich, but requested the bread on the side... the filet was cooked perfectly and cut like butter. While sitting there we watched two people sit where we got told we could not sit. They were allowed to sit there. My mom ordered a whiskey sour. It was one of the worst drinks I have tasted. When I sent it back the waitress had an attitude. She said to my 75 yr old mother what do you want?? My mom was so upset .she didn't want to order anything, I went Up to the bar and waited your female bartender was one of the rudest. There was water leaks behind your bar.
