Called the shop on a Saturday to ask about Smog checks for our 2 vehicles and he invited us to come on in. We met Carlos who was friendly and professional - said we've be done in about 35 minutes. We did a short walk about downtown Novato and returned to find both cars were done! E-certificate send off to the DMV and receipts ready - prices were as good or better than other providers (and without having to have a coupon). I appreciated the prompt, friendly service and will definitely recommend Carols and Hamiltons Smog without reservation.

Probably the best SMOG experience I've ever had (Even though my car failed the first time). I stopped by the first time and surprisingly they weren't busy. I talked to the owner, Carlos and had a good feeling about it so I asked him to proceed with a SMOG check. I wanted to kinda feel it out because 1, some SMOG technicians are complete pricks (More on ths later). Not so with Carlos. 2, my car had a special consideration and just by having a 5 minute conversation you can tell he knew exactly what he was doing. So after testing the first time it did fail even showing no codes/DTC's :-( However after talking through it he educated me about the quirks of my type of motor. I took his feedback and went through the processes he outlined. I came back a few weeks later and man, was it busy. I asked if I could come back later and he directed me to give him a call an hour before close. I did so, came back, threw it on the computer and it passed! One of the other great points about Hamilton's and Carlos is that the price is pretty fair. It's an honest business and Carlos is a straight shooter. To qualify my earlier statement, I've owned performance cars my whole life. Many techs will automatically fail you on the smallest little thing. In my case I have an EO/CARB approved performance kit on my car with documentation displayed. Carlos popped the hood, I described the kit and he went about doing his business. He was very professional and did his due diligence. Upon failing the first time we had a lengthy conversation as described above. Just due to the time and effort he put into the overall interaction I will definitely bring all my business here.

No appointment needed. Called ahead of time and told me to come at 5pm as they were finishing up another smog check. Super efficient and would come again. Close to Novato downtown, so if you need to run an errand you can. read more

It's so easy to make an appointment ahead of time using the online schedule tool, something that most shops don't seem to have. Plus, it's a super friendly operation who will take good care of you. I had some questions after changing out my battery, and they helped me out. Last, it was super quick! I was in and out in about 15-20 mins. Will be back. read more

I like that they're open later than many other smog check stations that typically close by 5:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. I recommend this place. read more

REALLY REALLY liked these guys! And because their location is on a side-street, I would not have known they were there except that they had the phone number posted on the side of the building. I had an appointment with them for smog cert, but had to cancel it at almost the last minute. The guy was super nice and just told me to come later that day whenever I could. When I arrived I could not find the paperwork I had brought with me for the DMV. He said "no problem" and somehow was able to look up my info (most likely with the car VIV number). There were two different places to sit while I waited (an indoor "lobby" which appears to be shared with the business next door, and also some chairs outside in the sun right next to where they were working on my car. The work was fast and efficient. Faster than I expected. My Smog certificate has already arrived in the mail, even though I never sent the docs to DMV myself. Thanks guys! I'll be back! Recently bought a Porsche 997. As it was an out of state purchase a recent smog pass was not required. I had gone to three different smog businesses all of which came back with an error that did not allow me to continue with a smog test. This wasn't a fail - worse, it was a unicorn of an issue. Carlos at Hamilton smog took this to heart and called me back two times to try and problem solve my issue. Talk about owning the Outcome! Although the two initial times I went there it didn't pass due to the same issue, the third time was the charm. Carlos and his other tech, not to be deterred stuck with it. One man at the computer and another working the OBD2 port into the correct connection. This extra effort saved me a TON of money at the dealership or paying another mechanic trying to problem solve this odd issue. Can't Thank these guys enough - all I can do is bring all of my other cars from now on and refer, refer, refer!! Awesome to have an auto shop so friendly and committed to help. read more

I left multiple voicemails and nobody got back. Finally, I got someone on the phone who didn't really put a lot of effort into helping me. She couldn't take the time to look up my vehicle in their system and tell me what was covered with this service plan based on my mileage. Nevermind that i have been taking my car there for years so that info should be easily accessible. Instead, she transferred me to voicemail. I left multiple voicemails, never got a single call back. Finally called and asked to speak to a supervisor, only to get yet another voicemail box. This one was completely full so I was unable to leave a voicemail. WOW. This is the worse service I have ever received at any Toyota and I have been a Toyota customer for decades. I ended up going to Hansel in Petaluma which was a great experience. Even though I had never been there and I wasn't in their computer, they were able to tell me what was included before i came in. They told me how much it would cost and scheduled me in the next day. Everybody was super nice and it's an overall much nicer dealership. I recommend anyone reading this ditch Novato Toyota and go to Hansel in Petaluma!

I was referred to Hamilton's Smog from another smog shop in Novato as their equipment was in need of repair. This shop is easy to find and located off Grant Ave in Downtown Novato on 1032 First St@ Grant Ave. The shop is clean and staffed with two employees who were friendly and accommodating. I was so satisfied with the experience I had the first time that I returned again with another older vehicle (pre 2000). I was lucky as there wasn't any other customers when I arrived. I was told the price up front and instructed to wait in the adjacent waiting room next door. The waiting room was also clean and had two chairs as well as a small coffee maker on a table which appeared to have a variety of coffees and teas to select from along with several paper cubs. The manager Carlos was cordial and told me that it would be ready in 45 minutes. He completed my smog check in 40 minutes as promised. I highly recommend this nice clean shop for your next smog inspection. Excellent service and convenient location should you want to get a little breakfast/ lunch while waiting for your vehicle to pass smog. Marvin's is a local restaurant just a short walk West on Grant St from the shop. Another great place to get a quick bite is Finnigan's Marin also located on Grant Ave, heading East. I did notice that most of the customers were drop ins, however booking an appointment is recommended as the word is getting out about this great smog shop. If you end up here, look on the North wall adjacent to the computer. There's a $10 discount code for writing a Yelp review which they honor. Such a deal! read more

Up against the wire with the DMV due date I found the website scheduler to be quick and easy, and I was able to get a next day appointment. The owner (Carlos) mentioned he would be happy to accommodate same day as well which is great when needed. Owner was knowledgeable, accommodating and was quick to get me on my way home.
