I don't trust my cars to just anybody so when I first needed to repair my M3 I took it to this place on Glendale Ave with good reviews. TERRIBLE, totally mis-diagnosed a simple thing like a front wheel bearing! Then I found Hamlet's and been taking it there ever since. Hamlet Is Excellent. He knows twice as much as the guys who work in the service department of the DMW dealers and he charges half as much. He's worked on three different BMWs I've owned over the years and I've had a really good experience every time. Recently the engine died in my X5 and only had 72,000 miles on it! Most unprofessional man I've met. I Went to get an estimate for some roof dents. Hamlet went to the back to get a number because they couldn't help me, but there was miss communication because he was on the phone while helping me. So my wife said he was probably busy because some time has passed. As I am backing out the drive way, Hamlet is YELLING at me ," ARE YOU SERIOUS... ARE YOU SERIOUS ... IM DOING THIS FOR YOU AND YOU ABOUT TO LEAVE?" Verbatim. My wife and I were shocked. Then Hamlet says it a couple more times. I get out the car to confront hamlet as to why on earth is he talking to me like that in front of my family... As soon as I confront him, his whole demeanor and tone changed. He just gives me the number he was looking for and tells me leave. He spoke to me like he was my boss and I was late to work. He told me I wasted his time. No one should ever talk to a customer like that. Especially if the customer was literally in his car doing nothing. Then The owner comes up aggressively yelling? Took my BMW for service because there was smoke coming out of the engine block. Not something I expected from a car that's well-maintained and has fairly low miles. The guys at the shop wasted no time in correctly diagnosing the issue, ordering genuine parts and replacing the faulty break vacuum pump within a short period of time. Had I taken the car to the BMW dealer, they would have charged me 3x the amount, knowing that the part is not covered under the limited warranty. Have driven by Hamlet's BMW shop many times driving off the freeway but have never needed a reason to stop. But recently, my door lock actuator went out so I did what every responsible owner does...went to Google! Lol After reading some BMW forums I freaked out because of how much they said it would cost to fix. But when I got to Hamlet's, he quickly looked up my car info and came back with the parts and labor and it was probably 30-40% LESS than what the dealer would've charged me! AND he had it fixed and ready to go within two hours with no appointment!! Thanks Hamlet! Hope I don't have a reason to come to you soon, but if I do...lol...you're BMW's one stop shop from now on. read more

While not the cheapest BMW service shop around, Hamlet is certainly much cheaper than the BMW dealership. Their work and service is good, but there are cheaper alternatives for the same type of service (like the M Shop). The garage is lined with BMW's they are working on or they own. So it instills some peace of mind that they know what they are doing. They only work on BMW's, not even Mini's. As I mentioned Hamlet is a little pricier than others and the one thing I really don't like - they don't think outside the box. Instead of fixing a part, they would rather replace it. The options he provides are never economical. At this point my review is over. However, I have listed an example of my most recent experience below. I have been going to Hamlet for over 3 years but a recent experience will ensure I never go back. My car died on the road (130k miles on my BMW) and I got it towed to Hamlet. The symptoms were: 1) My engine heat meter was all the way to red 2) My odometer was not working 3) The ABS, Brake, Check Engine and a couple of other lights in the instrument panel were on All this occurred at the same time so I was sure it was one problem causing everything (I still am). However, when Hamlet got my car, he proceeded to give me a quote of $1500 for replacing the fuel gasket, the power steering hose, a couple of additional belts and hoses and the tray that apparently helps prevent coolant leakage. His diagnosis was that the overheating occurred due to coolant leakage, but this had been an older problem and the fix was to put coolant in the radiator whenever the Check Coolant indicator went on once every couple of months. This time, that indicator was not on and I had just added more coolant a couple of weeks back. Anyway, I thought he would have fixed all the problems, but $1700 later, he said the ABS problem still existed and that a chip in the DSC unit was bad. It was freaking out the transmission and the car could only operate in 3rd gear. Operating it in this condition would ruin my transmission. So, he gave me an additional quote of $1650 to fix this problem. At this point, I took my car from him and parked it in my garage. I called around and the M Shop offered to fix this (pending an evaluation and assuming their diagnosis was consistent with Hamlets) for $1300. I had asked Hamlet to provide me with other options. Could I get a used part? Could we disable the plug that connects the ABS to the transmission? He had said no. So I found a place called BMS Auto in Pacoima, that has offered to find a used part and install it for $500. I am waiting for BMS to call me once they have a part, but in any case, the one thing they did do to help me was to disconnect the plug between ABS and transmission so that the transmission operates normally. Hope this helps. If you have other options, and you do, I would avoid Hamlet unless you don't mind blindly paying for stuff. His work is good, but as I said, he is not the most economical. read more

I don't know why this Auto Repair Shop doesn't have more reviews but here I go. (Edit, because of filtered reviews.) I recently visited Hamlet BMW to get my window replaced as the window regulator had failed on me once again. I decided to visit Hamlet as I was referred by a relative and this independent shop is cheaper compared to the ones I called around my area. Overall, Hamlet over the phone was very friendly and courteous. I dropped off my car and I left for around 2 hours. I come back to pick up my car and arrive at his office. Before paying I ask him nicely "Can I test out my window first?" As a customer, I want to make sure my window is in working condition before paying. I mean who wouldn't want to do this? I've had extremely bad luck with my car windows in the past. After asking this question, he immediately looks at me and asks me "Why, you don't trust me?" with a disgusted face. In my mind I was like...."Really?" This is no way to treat your customers. You're running a business? Act like you are. Anyways, that got me heated and after making sure everything was in working condition, I sat in my car and checked my coin stash just to make sure my coins haven't been touched. To my amazement, all my quarters, nickels, and dimes were GONE. Whoever took them was nice enough to leave me 1 dime and my remaining pennies. Overall, they are cheaper than the dealership, but I WOULD NOT take my car here again after this experience. As a potential customer, look at other available options. I would take my BMW to The M Shop located in Eagle Rock. It's a bit pricier and you have to call in to make an appointment or come in early based on what's wrong with your vehicle. Side note: After leaving them my vehicle, they proceeded to drive my car like a maniac in the small space they have available. The individual who brought my car out drove like he was driving the Long Beach Grand Prix hugging my car close to the walls. Update: After cleaning my car and again checking the side in which they fixed my window, they chipped off a piece of my interior trim. This is depressing because I have kept my car in immaculate condition. Take your BMW elsewhere. read more

They did a horrible job on my V8. Spent close to $10K in engine work in 11months chasing after leaks. And after all was done in less than 3months I started to have oil leaks again. So then I went to a recommended bmw indi in and they said Hamlet did a horrible job and recommend pulling the engine to redo the work. Went to 2 other bmw indi shops just to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion and all of them said the same thing. Sealants placed where it shouldnt be, used home construction bolts on certain places instead of factory, missing bolts on some places, timing chain was off spec. And all gaskets and parts used were NOT genuine bmw as Hamlet would always say he uses genuine. So another $4k to pull the engine and replace every gasket again and finally no more leaks. Its been in 8months since Sorry this is lengthy. But hopefully an enthusiast will appreciate this review. For simple jobs like brakes, fluids and window regulators they should be safe. But anything that requires more specialized work I would stay away. Just glad my other 3 V8 BMWs havent been touched by Hamlet. read more

I took my fiancé's BMW to get a new battery because the dealer said we needed to change it and wanted to charge $500. Hamlet quoted me $250-$350 depending on the battery that was needed. They checked my battery and said it was fine and I didn't need to change it. They also noticed that when the dealer changed one of the bulbs in the headlight they forgot to put the cover on and left it in the trunk. They put the cover on for free. My car wouldn't start at my apartment and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it and Hamlet and one of his techs personally came to my apartment to look at it and help me out. How sweet of them! He told me what was wrong with my car and gave my car a jumpstart so I could take it to his shop to get it fixed. It took less than 30 minutes for them to install a new battery for me.
