Easy store- convenient- but they surprisingly don't price match to their own website. If you are buying something from here I recommend ordering from online and picking up in store as prices vary and are more in store. I bought a toilet seat cover and it is broken. They sold me a defective product and since I opened it, per their policy, I can not return it, even though they sold me a defective product. I have to now dispute this with my credit card. read more

Honestly, I can't say I have ever had a bad experience at an Ace Hardware, but I wanted to give this one a shoutout in particular because they have one thing really going for them. They have a huge selection of hard-to-find items like fasteners that usually I can only get at Home Depot. I'm not sure how they do that since they're the same size as every other Ace basically, but they must have a good manager that keeps them stocked in the more obscure stuff. read more

Hammer & Nails has been around for decades, and was once a couple of blocks from my house, which for a while, I hosted on VRBO, so having them so handy was a Godsend. They have persisted even when the large apartment building all the way to the street front blocked their visibility. They have the best prices for the quantity for propane tank refills, and as another customer mentioned, do great work at a very reasonable price of repairing screens as well as the frames. Knowledgable, helpful, reasonably priced, locally owned, lots of winning combinations at play. read more

The staff were helpful, no one seemed very knowledgeable however (i.e. not knowing different nail names, or what would be appropriate for my project). I bought some wood there and needed it cut (because how many of us own electric saws at home). As the gentleman was cutting my boards a higher up came by to say, "we don't cut boards, even if they are for a cute girl." Needless to say WTF, you don't cut boards?? And secondly, I think there is a more appropriate way to say this while in my company. Now I'm stuck with boards that are half cut, which I can't do anything with. I will be going to Home Depot next time, where they will gladly cut the boards for you with just a small additional fee. And the staff seems to be better informed. read more

Outstanding locally owned franchise. Manager and assistant manager both long term employees. One or the other of them is always there as is the owner quite frequently. Excellent stock and knowledgeable service and advise. I moved away and l really miss them as the nearest hardware store to me now is a True Value that is terrible at service and has ridiculously high prices because they figure they have a lock on he locals. I now drive 20 miles further in the opposite direction for hardware. I still drop in to see the staff at Hammer and Nails when I am in Pacific Beach and am greeted very warmly. This place is awesome. I went in needing supplies and instruction on how to use what I was buying. They helped me troubleshoot and were very patient in explaining exactly what I needed to do solve my problem. They didn't try to oversell me things I didn't need. I left with basic materials and came home and solved my issue within 5 minutes. I think the thing I appreciated the most is that I"m an older woman and they didn't act like any of my questions were stupid. This is what makes a business great. read more

I've been coming to this little hardware store for the last 29 years. The same guys are working there. And they've always been helpful. Even though this place is more expensive than Home Depot, I like to come here when I don't need to go to Home Depot because I really like it and I really like the people that work there. It's remarkable the amount of items this little store has. They do something that most hardware stores do not do, they repair screens and I've used them a few times and they always do a perfect job. read more

Working and living in the area, I've gone to Hammer & Nail for a number of things, from small stuff like zip ties to more substantial plumbing material. Also, I've dealt with a few different people in there, and they've all been very helpful. It's not a huge store, so if you're looking to do a very large project or have a wide selection of tools, Hammer & Nail may not be the place to go. But if you're looking for a moderate selection and good service (and willing to pay a little bit more, perhaps), try it out. What actually reminded me to write this review is the pair of Ace leather working gloves that I bought there about a year ago. They were the cheapest ones they had in terms of price, but one of the guys there recommended em. I've used them a LOT since last summer, and they're still in really good shape. Not a huge deal, I suppose, but just another reason for me to throw a 5-star rating their way. Thanks guys. read more

Great, little neighborhood hardware store! The staff are really helpful and friendly. I got a few copies of my house key made here and they didn't work :( I took them back to Hammer and Nails and they gave me my money back. Basically, my locks are so old that the keys are kind of rare. They ended up recommending a local place for me to get my keys made in PB. My husband has been happy with the tools he's purchased from here. The only downside is since it's a small store, they have a limited selection of items at times. However, they generally have what you need - it just may not be the brand you are looking for. We are very happy to have them down the road from us! read more

Very surprised to find this little hardware store walking distance to my apartment. They have a pretty good selection and the guy working there knew exactly what I was talking about. I'm used to going to giant hardware stores so it was nice to be in a place that wasn't a giant warehouse. For such a small place they had a lot of stuff and they were also able to make key copies and match paint. I haven't bought my new car yet but I noticed there was plenty of parking. read more

It amazes me how many items they have for my emergency needs from bathroom stuff, to cleaning supplies, to bulbs, to wires and nails, just everything...they usually have it and if they don't, they will direct you to the right shop! If I could give this store six stars, I would. I have gone there for many years, buying all kinds of odds and ends for my home. The staff is always so helpful. I love Hammer & Nails. I've been in many, many times in the past (they sell just about anything you may be looking for, no joke), but this past weekend was the first time I went into the hardware store to actually buy things that a hardware store is known for selling: we took on our first home project - paint. The guy mixed up our paint quickly and perfectly, and suggested all the tools and supplies we would need, and I appreciated that he did so based on the size of the area we were painting and not price. I totally agree w/ Mary M; we had to go back in 2 more times for additional supplies, but oh how forever thankful are we that we didn't have to schlep all the way out Home Depot or Lowes. read more

We just bought a "surf hut" next door. I like living next door to the cutest hardware store! They have everything . Staff is always helpful.

I needed an ignition key blank (with resistor chip) copied off an original key. No programming involved. I provided the blank. The Grand Av ACE store quoted me $69. No confusion over the task. I explained it twice and got a second opinion from the manager. $69 take it or leave it. I got the key copied at HAMMER AND NAILS ACE hardware on Turquoise Av in PB. Cost less than $3.00 ... just as they told me over the phone. FAST COURTEOUS HONEST FRIENDLY Lucky we are in PB to have a choice. I'm sorry I appeared so stupid to the Grand Av guys. I'm never going back. As in never! BTW: The job took less than one minute and the new key worked first time and every time thereafter. read more

They will do whatever it takes to help you find exactly what you need, even if you're only getting a small purchase. Only 4 stars because they are a pretty small store and don't have some things that you might find at a larger ACE store. On the other hand, with ACE you can order online and pick up at your neighborhood store, so this really doesn't present much of a problem. read more

Been to Hammer and Nails on Turquoise a bunch lately as we do some renovations...wonderful, friendly, people . . . we tried to match paint for 45 minutes, they mixed a gallon, no match, no need to buy it either--who does that? Needed an obscure little bulb . . not one, but two employees went off to help me. Found it. Three keys made...all worked. Bottom line...my little trips in to see these folks doesn't help their bottom line all that much...but they treated me, every time, like it was the "sale of the week." Go visit them! read more
