I didn't even have to ask them to return - they immediately scheduled another visit. No charge. The carpet looks great now. Jerry, the technician, was friendly and professional, and he was genuinely interested in determining exactly what had gone wrong so that it wouldn't happen again. I have been doing business with HK for over ten years. They have cleaned my area rugs, cleaned my carpets, made area rug pads and even stretching my carpet and reinstalling after a water leak. I have always been treated warmly and respectfully. I have always dealt with Marta in the office and she is WONDERFUL, however I brought an area rug in last week to be cleaned for spring cleaning and was treated so rudely by Carson, an employee I have not met prior, that I will not use the business again. He told me he could smell the rug from across the room (perhaps, I do have a dog who is stinky) telling me he could smell dog pee. Now my dog is over 100 lbs if he had wee'd on my rug I'd have known it. He then tried to prove it to me with a black light, but no evidence found. Carson needs some real training in customer service from Marta. Yes the rug was dirty, and smelled of dog, and I would have paid the extra charge for deodorizing but there was no call to be such a nasty little toe rag about it. If you need an area rug cleaned, they will do a good job, if you need your carpets cleaned they will do a good job, if you need a pad for your area rug they will cut one to size for you, and if you need to deal with the office talk with Marta and you will be treated with respect. Just steer clear of Carson. If HK terminates Carson, it would be the BEST decision ever made. Update 5/30/17 I just picked up my rug from HK, and after a lengthy phone conversation with Marta I believe the problem I noted above will be addressed with further training. I feel that HK listened to my honest complaint and are going to ensure that it never happens again. ( My rug was again clean and no stinky dog smell :) ). I am happy with the way the problem was quickly addressed and can recommend HK to anyone who needs their services. read more

If you need to have tile cleaned and grout repaired, this is your company. I had a great experience with Sheena (the estimator) - she was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Our technician, Christian, was awesome - he was professional, detail oriented and answered a million questions that my preschooler had for him while he did his work! Not only did he do a perfect job, he also took great care to not create a mess in my house. Everything was taped off, he put mats down and cleaned everything up before he left. I also really appreciated that he asked my opinion on how I wanted him to do things; most of the time, I didn't have a preference and asked him to go with the option he does most often, but I greatly appreciated it. H/K visited our property to clean tile and match/repair grout work following water damage. On time, very professional, and very high quality of work. I have a very high standard for what I consider to be "clean," as in I typically clean again after any work is done around our home, but H/K did an incredible job and left the area in pristine condition. I read another review that noted "extra points for not having a neck tattoo..." etc. The service person on our job did have tattoos, and his work was in fact superior to the slew of other tradesmen that have been on the job prior, without. Hammond Knoll advertises a 20% discount for rugs that you bring to them. I took an oriental area rug to Hammond Knoll and asked for the discount. They gave me the discount but then they added on a charge for fabric protection which I had not requested. I warned them that the colors in the rug would run when washed. They did not indicate that would be a problem. When I came to pick up the rug I found the carpet backing severely stained and the fringe lightly stained. When I complained, they said they would attempt to clean it. A week later I received a call telling me that it was still stained and asked if I had considered having the fringe replaced? So, let's see, first they stain the fringe and now they want me to pay to replace it. A great business model (for them to make money!) I previously cleaned this rug myself with much better results. I previously had it cleaned professionally with much better results. read more

I had a terrible experience trying to get a small area repaired on a rug with some emotional value (but not worth much in $). First, I thought the receptionist was condescending. She insisted I first authorize $86 to clean my 3'x5' rug, which might not have been bad, but then had horrible suggestions for the repair - like cutting off the entire outside band all the way around. Finally she quoted me over $800 for the repair and cleaning, emphasizing that they could not guarantee the work would be satisfactory. I took the rug to Emmanuel's in Seattle and they did a fantastic repair - I know where to look and still can't find it - for $162, including cleaning. I'll never go near Hammond Knoll again. read more

There is a reason these people have been in business so long. From the moment you call they are SO nice and professional. And they show up in a Hammond Knoll truck and Hammond Knoll shirts....not just some random van. Our cleaner was quick and thorough and gave us lots of options...and our cleaning came in way under cost because I overestimated the square footage. Also, they have a green cleaning option. No harsh chemicals in this house... And I can't even smell the detergent, which is great. Good for asthma in my opinion. Happy customer. Will call again. Update: We recently moved into a rental house. My landlord initially hired another company to clean the carpets. A few months later I hired Hammond Knoll to come and do a cleaning. I am in complete awe of this company. I never write reviews but this is the best customer service I have ever experienced. I just moved to Tacoma and as comes with moving, I needed to move a few last things. One of the things was a 5 gallon FULL bucket of white paint. As I was driving, the bucket of paint tipped over, spilling almost all of the paint all over the the inside of the van. It leaked down under the seat and completely covered the passenger side of the van in a huge puddle. When I opened the door it spilled out of the car leaking onto the street. It was EVERYWHERE and I was positive the carpeting was completely ruined. Panicked, I quickly scooped out as much as I could and Googled a cleaning place which is how I came across Hammond Knoll. I called them and they immediately took me in. Mind you, they are not even a car detailing shop, they just specialize in carpet and rug cleaning, furniture restoration, etc, but they took me in; just one example of how amazing they are. An hour later, the carpeting in my car was PRISTINE, I could not believe my eyes. They did a FANTASTIC job - you couldn't even tell there had ever been paint spilled there. Furthermore, their prices are beyond reasonable, and I ended up paying basically the lowest end of what they quoted me. If you think the service couldn't get any better, here's the icing on the cake. When I came to pick up my car, they had a little gift bag ready for me with a bottle of their spot cleaner and instructions on how to use it. I had had a terrible week already and just the day before my cat had peed on my bed (and brand new mattress) which I happened to mention when I dropped the car off. I couldn't believe that they would pay that level of attention and detail to their customers. it was a small act of extreme care and compassion that meant everything. Not to mention that the entire staff is incredibly genuine, kind, and friendly. If you are considering going to Hammond Knoll, do not look any further. I promise you will not regret it! Furniture cleaning was very expensive and results are less than pleasing due to obnoxious odor even after ten days! I can communicate with them about the job they are doing and get minute to minute updates from them without even asking, but I can also have a regular normal day conversation with them and they just continue to work at the same pace even with the distractions. We took our beautiful Persian rug to these knuckleheads to have dog urine cleaned from it. It is a light blue and cream color. Their price was a bit steep, but the hype with "75 years" convinced me to try them. They took over 2 weeks to get it done and when I got it home, they had bled the blues into the cream color. I called them and asked them about the issue and they told me, "it says right at the bottom of your receipt that urine may run the colors" with a very snotty attitude. I was furious. I expressed that if they would have told me that when I dropped it off, I wouldn't have taken the chance. Very condescending group of people when dealing with them. here's the kicker... they said they would try to fix it, but it would COST ME to re-do it with no guarantees. Wouldn't let them clean a rag rug. Do not recommend this business to anyone. Business practices stink! read more

No service was received. I scheduled a pickup for 3 area rugs well in advance. When the pickup day came and was mostly gone with no one showing up, I called. I wasn't on the schedule. The woman who answered the phone checked around the office and determined that the person with whom I had spoken initially experienced a computer crash as he was entering my appointment. So these people don't have caller ID like everyone else and could have called me back? Then she said they were going to make it right. I was anticipating an off-schedule trip to come pick up the rugs. But no, all she offered was the next available regular schedule pickup. An opportunity for a lifetime customer - I do understand that mistakes happen and it's all about how you make it right - turned into a 100% negative experience. read more

We hadn't had our carpets cleaned for, lets just say, too long. We have 3 gkids to love and play with and we definitely had evidence that they had been here. On Christmas Eve we had a red wine incident and I tried, without success, to clean it from our light grey carpet. Hammond Knoll was able to schedule us on the day that worked best for us. I have 4-large area rugs I purchased from Macy's. They are wool rugs and when new kept shedding. I took the rugs to Hammond Knoll to get them cleaned and hopefully end the shedding issue. I found the staff very friendly, prices reasonable, and quick service. They did an excellent job, the carpets were very clean and the shedding issue was nearly 100% better. read more

Update to original review: After my initial experience and review, I was surprised when someone from Hammond Knoll reached out to me to apologize for the situation and asked what they could do to solve the issue. They went out of their way work with me to have the rug deodorized promptly, and make sure I was satisfied with the results. While the first experience was frustrating, I was impressed by their efforts to help make the situation right. I know have by clean, and smell free rug, and am happy with the results, and will definitely be trying them again. Original review I really wanted to like this place. It's been recommended to me by several friends, and it's conveniently located for me. But, so frustrating to deal with. I took a small area rug to be cleaned. They called once it was cleaned to tell me it had a bit of an pet odor and asked if I'd like it deodorized. I asked them to go ahead with it, and it was to be done in approximately two additional weeks. A month later, they still hadn't contacted me, so I called to ask if it was complete. I expected to pay the additional they had quoted me for the deodorization, but when I picked it up, they said I was all good and it was paid. I even asked if they were sure, but they again said yes, so I assumed either they'd already charged my card, or maybe I was good since I had to wait a whole month. After having it in the house, I noticed it still smelled. The tag also didn't indicate it was deodorized, so I suspected that maybe it hadn't been done. When I called to ask them if they were sure they had deodorized it, they told me they'd look into it and call me back. Several days later, the manager left me a message telling me they'd be happy to deodorize it for $79 dollars if I wanted to drop it by. No mention of if it was actually done. Several phone calls later, turns out, they'd never deodorized it. However, they were happy to do that for me if I wanted to bring it back in. When I told them that was a little frustrating, since they were supposed to have done it in the first place, the man told me since he was 'feeling generous that day, he'd hook me up with a 10% online coupon.' I was happy to pay the extra for the deodorizing, but that is terrible service. They totally forgot to finish the rug, and instead of just apologizing, because I get it--mistakes happen, you act like you are doing me a favor by giving me $8 off (which apparently I could have just found the online coupon myself)? read more

My wife and I have used Hammond Knoll on several occasions since we moved to the Gig Harbor area in 2000, and have always found their workmanshi8p to be excellent. We used them on two occasions, each time to put together two custom designed area rugs, cutting pieceds from three separate carpets and putting them into a design into each of the new carpets. We still have three of the four of them, and in recarpeting the upstairs, no longer had a need for the fourth one. When we needed toclean and repair our kitchen grout, we called all over the Tacoma/Gig Harbor area, and finally found that Hammond Knoll has experts in cleaning and repairing grout What a pleasant surprise. The man in charge of that division came over, measured the counters and gave us an estimate. We agreed and a workman showed up. It was supposed to be just a cleaning, and repairing/replacing some places where the grout had broken. But in doing that, the worker realized that it wouldn't quite exactly match, so took it on himself to use all new grout -- and at no extra charge! Needless to say, it looks great. This last time, we were there in February to have one of the carpets they made for us deodorized and cleaned. Seems our aging cat had a bladder infection and had been secretly urinating on it, for some time, as it turned out. We didn't realize it because it was under our formal dining table which we don't use unlesswse have company, so it had been going on for some time. The pad had to be thrown out, as it was soaked and reeked of urine. We took the 7' x 10' carpet to them to see what they could do. They said they would need to keep it for several days to first deordorize it, then clean it. Marta called me after a few days to ask me if they could keep it awhi8le longer, as they needed to go over a particularly stubbon area where the cat had urinated the most. They weren't 100% pleased with it yet, so they were goign to do it all over again. Of course we said OK, and several days later she called to say that it finally met with their approval and it was ready anytime we wanted to pick it up. We did, and it looked and smelled great. I even got down on my hands and knees to give it the sniff test in the corners where I knew it had been the worst. No urine ordor at all, just a very mild, pleasant cleaner scent. In cleaning it several times, the paper backing covering up all of their original sticking had started to come apart in places, so they replaced it all with new paper to cover the stitches -- and at no extra cost. We have always found them to be pleasant, professional, and thorough. Despite the one or two negative reviews, we have had nothing but first-class work doen by them, and always at the price they first quoted -- never any hidden "extras" or markups. They do what they do, very, very well, and we can wholeheartedly recommend them. read more
