I'm honestly surprised this place doesn't have more reviews, but I guess that makes sense that the residents probably aren't on Yelp! From the very first meeting, I knew British Home was the one for my uncle- unlike other places where they ignored him or treated him like he couldn't think for himself simply because he's deaf- the staff at the British Home were compassionate and friendly and made efforts to figure out how to communicate with him directly. He's lived there 10 months or more now and we just love the entire staff. We have so much peace of mind knowing he lives there. He originally started off in one of the more independent rooms but when they noticed he needed lots of prompting, they moved him into the building where a nurse is present. He still has his independence too but they also keep a closer eye on him which I appreciate due to his medical conditions. They have a very full calendar of activities. I believe there are 2-4 activities every day except for Sundays, including two different exercise classes, art classes and more. They also do regular outings that the residents can sign up for. I've joined him for exercises classes (always lots of participants) and lunch a few times, and the residents and the staff have all been very nice. The staff is also very proactive in communicating with me if my uncle needs something - like more socks, more shoes, etc. I don't know if they do this for everyone, but they have taken him to get his eyes checked and get new glasses, and he's got an appointment to see the dentist next week. He's also signed up for SCAN and there's a nurse practitioner that comes to the facility regularly to check in on the residents. The dining room is very sizable and it always appears full and lively during mealtimes. They also have a salon where they offer regular hair cuts, shaves etc I believe once per week or twice per month. They have raised garden beds that the residents can work on, if interested. Wr first toured the place in December and it was decorated beautifully for Christmas. It's always decorated very nicely all year round for any seasonal holidays. The outside is very spacious. There's a huge lawn and many areas to sit outside. The home hosts many events. They host regular event nights for only the residents. They just had one last week that I believe was themed by a certain decade (like 50s). A month and a half ago, they had a casino night that was opened up for family and friends. Early in the summertime, they have their annual British home festival event which is opened up to the whole community- it was all things British and lots of fun. They also offer quarterly lunches/brunches for family and friends to join the residents. Other than that, they've always been very welcoming anytime I come to visit whether during the weekend or mid week. From what I can tell, any openings are filled very quickly. As soon as someone tours the place, they can see how amazing it is. We've run into people touring the facility at times and they'll tell us how nice they think it is. The rates are very affordable (well, for California). I toured a few places and the British Home was less expensive than the others, while offering more compassion and care, more independence, and more activities. I HIGHLY recommend the British Home.

There is where I met Martha Reyes. Martha reached out to introduce herself and let me know that she would be personally looking after Nancy. I visit The Kensington each day at breakfast, lunch and dinner to help feed Nancy and get a better understanding of what days are like there. To say the least, I continue to be impressed at the amazing level of care that Nancy and all the residents' experience. Of all the care-givers, Martha stands out not only with her level of dedication to all the resident but especially how she nurtures and comforts Nancy through these new tough times. Thank you Martha for being there and for the loving care you give Nancy each day. You now have a special place in my heart. Always Dennis

Not all that glitters is gold…read more I interviewed here and watched staff perform a three-person manual lift for a restroom transfer--something that should be done with a rolling commode, not three people straining with backs bent to keep a resident from falling. This is not a safe lift technique for staff or residents. Especially those who may be fall risks or wheelchair bound - as this resident was. Turns out transfers are routinely done in this unsafe manner because the 25-resident memory unit has only one rolling commode for the whole unit. One. Thats shameful. When this was brought to Director-level management, there was apparently no interest in the resident's care plan or in finding out why the unit wasn't properly equipped. The Director was only interested in finding out who disclosed the information. For a facility charging up to $40,000 a month, this level of basic equipment shortage is unacceptable. And the witch-hunting behavior of management towards nursing staff who bring valid concerns over safety is ridiculous. I am not impressed and I would not recommend.

It was very important for us to find a place that felt like home for our mom. Nikkiann & Beatrice helped make the transition from home to the facility comfortable for both our family and our mom. They always had a smile on their face and for the first month would report to us regularly on a weekly basis on how our mom was doing. This brought us peace of mind and made us feel we made the right decision. Sharon and the caregivers were highly qualified to care for patients with different needs like our mom who had dementia, Parkinson's, diabetes and history of TIAs. We are so grateful for their unconditional care and love they showed to our mom and the whole family. Our family highly recommends Henrietta's Leven Oaks! They earned 5 stars and beyond for their quality service, beautiful historic building, and amazing staff. Thank you so much for caring for our precious mother.

When Mom's health recently declined, BD staff nurse visited Mom in the hospital, and assessed Mom to determine if she could continue living there. The cost wasn't an issue. We just wanted Mom to be in safe place that could provide the care she needs. Three MD's had previously determined and documented that Mom needed to be in skilled nursing home or private board and care home. However, the BD staff nurse determined that BD could provide sufficient additional services including on-call aides to facilitate toileting, transferring, dressing and eating for additional fees amounting to additional 60% each month. This decision / assessment was supported by the exec director. We did not want to relocate Mom if BD could live up to their commitment to provide the on-call services, as BD was 'home' for Mom. BD proved to me on multiple occasions that they could not provide the level of care Mom needed at this stage in her life. In just one example, I personally pressed the call-button for assistance to move Mom to the commode in her bedroom. And after waiting 30 minutes, I telephoned the desk to escalate the request for assistance. We waited another 10 minutes for aides to arrive. Imagine waiting 40 minutes to urinate after you have sounded the alarm, and picture how upset you would be. Now, imagine that you are 93 years old and you can't get out of bed to move to a toilet that is a couple of feet away from you. Imagine your hysteria, and multiply that by dementia. This is where the story goes from unforgettable to unforgivable. Our family determined that BD was no longer a suitable place for Mom to live. Telling Mom was heartbreaking. We asked BD exec staff to support our family decision to relocate Mom. Instead, the nurse and exec director contradicted what we had told her and in conversation with her while I was personally present, they held to their opinion that they could care for her. This made the transition many times worse than it would have been if they had supported us. Mom loved the day-to-day staff at BD. She especially loved Gail at the main desk. Mom never in 3 years had a positive word to say about the food, and Mom is not a picky eater. In the years that Mom lived there, I found every regular employee to be friendly, kind and polite.
