Great experience. Movers were professional and friendly. They did not damage any furniture. They did ding up a door frame when a hide a bed opened unexpectedly but they came and told me and showed me right away. The company sent out a handyman to fix it and it looked fine when he was done. I have never in my life experienced such carelessness from a business. First off, the day before the pack out, one of the employees of this company arrived at my house in the morning, without warning, and only texted my husband about it after the fact (when I did not open the door for an unknown man on my porch). What was scheduled to be a two day pack was rushed in about six hours, and it shows. We have found multiple broken items, some of which are irreplaceable, and we aren't even done unpacking yet. I'm sure I'll have an exhaustive list by the time we're finished. Don't worry, I'll keep this review updated! One of the men responsible for our packing kept FARTING in my house all day, stinking up the living room for hours. The labeling and choice of items to shove in the same box is wild, shoes & decor together for example. And I do mean shoved, I've just discovered a brand new pair of sneakers completely squashed between some storage containers in the wardrobe box. They had a very efficient tracking system to ensure all items were accounted for. The crew used extra precautions to ensure no damage to door frames or floors while moving in bulky items. I felt bullied and pressured into signing the paper.He was rude and said ma'am there is absolutely no damage to your house we took care of it.There is a lot of damage to my home. my house is freshly painted and they knew that coming in they were not capable of carrying anything up the stairs they were very out of shape maybe one guy was in shape. But if a company is going to hire people you might want to make sure they are professional they can do the job in multiple ways not just some random Joe off the road. I have actually gone through and read other reviews and this company does not care if people have had bad experiences. If you take the time to go through and look and read reviews you can see that they're very empty with their response if they even respond. I would not trust this company with a single thing I ever owned. Not only did the grossly miss handle our belongings and break every essential piece of furniture we have, the STOLE ALL OF MY JEWELRY AND CLOTHES. They are terrible and I'm contacting the Better Business Bureau about this and possibly filing a lawsuit. All of our belongings were scratched dented or just plain broken to pieces. Our 2 year old mattress came covered and thick black grease. They miss calculated the weight of my belongings by 5000 pounds. 5000lbs! We were told we had 10,000 by their employee and we had 15,000. 1/3 of my house?? REALLY? This caused us to have an overflow portion. It was crated at my house and I was assured that it would remain in the crates until it was shipped to my new home . Unfortunately they uncrated it and stole what they wanted smashed the rest of it and instead of sending it to my new home like they were supposed to they miss placed it for 30 days. It arrived in shambles. some of the boxes were missing most of them were crushed some of them had holes in them our clothes were thrown in, unboxed. We are members of the US military and were ordered to move across the country and this is how they treat you for serving America. Thanks. It's people like these that make America a terrible place. The only redeeming aspect of this company is Robin, who was very thorough in preparing the cost estimate and coordinating the dates of my move from the Hampton Roads area to Northern Virginia. Other than this, they are the worst moving company I have ever dealt with. They arrived late to load the truck and took forever to empty a three bedroom apartment. They were late again in arriving on delivery day and rushed through unloading the truck, with two of three workers leaving before the job was even done. Even though the office staff assured me that everything they took apart would be reassembled several items were either left in pieces or not put back together properly. I had to practically yell at the "leader" to put the entertainment center (with TV) together as he was racing out the door to get back to Hampton Rads to pick up his kids from school. As a result the TV sits crooked, the mirror on the bedroom dresser was never attached and my dining room table is unstable and wobbles because the "leader" could not figure out how to reattach the legs properly. Maybe this is because he didn't take the time to observe or talk to the worker who took the table apart in Hampton Roads but did not make the trip to Northern Virginia. These are just a few examples of their incompetence-- there was also damage to furniture and my new home--but the bottom line of this review is to advise against using this company at all costs for any move, no matter how big or small. read more

I cannot say enough about the entire moving process with HRMS and Atlas Moving. From the initial interview and walk through with Robin Samuels to Stacey's monitoring every step during the move and driver/owner Manny and his crew, every person was very friendly, efficient and professional. This is our first time using a professional mover and it was costly moving inter-state. HRSM gave us the best price and patiently answered all our concerns and questions. Long days for the moving crew and they maintained their demeanor throughout and went above and beyond to protect our belongings. Their experience showed when they were able to fit it all into the storage unit, saving us from having to rent another unit. Definitely will use HRSM for the final move. read more

Do not choose this moving company. My TV was damaged while in the movers possession after they gave me their word that it wouldn't be any mishaps or damaging of my furniture. They knew prior to them finishing my move that my TV was damaged because the mover screwed the stand to my TV back on but chose to not say a word about it ,just to hurry out the door in a rush so "they could beat traffic." The packing crew: They were late by 2 hours. I received no phone call from the company providing an update of time or anything. Once they arrived the supervisor immediately began giving excuses for being late and started complaining about the work hours that he has to do. They were completely unprofessional and at one point talked with my neighbor about buying a scooter while they were packing my things. A lot of my stuff was packed incorrectly and were cracked, broken, or bent, all from failing to properly pack and secure my household goods. On the descriptive inventory they made up damages to almost every item even though some where brand new. The loading crew: I was never told a time they were to arrive even when I called the office they explained they should be there about an hour after the packing crew left. 4 hours later they arrived and complained because I had left to get dinner. They complained about their hours. Dropped 4 of my boxes. Didn't box my mattress or box spring and said they wouldn't disassemble any of my things after it leaves my house. My bike and table was broken down further after it left my house. I was not told that after the truck was loaded that it would be offloaded and packed into shipping containers. When they did that, they did a poor job of loading it. Many of the boxes were crushed, split open, and/or wet. They folded my mattress and put my furniture into the containers with little to no cushion. Bottom line, they obviously did not care about my things and it showed when I unpacked. It has been a very frustrating experience to find that most if not all of my things are damaged, especially when I am moving due to the military. read more

They hired other movers to move my house and they broke a lot of stuff. They broke a 5 foot mirror, an antique dresser, doll house, Kamado Joe, riding lawn mower, glider chair for the babies room, dumped out the gas from my generator into the lawn, then did not take it, dumped out the gas from the riding mower and did not take it, several glass vases, and stole my personal hand truck. They said they will only give us 200 dollars, and claimed everything depreciated in value, including the antique dresser and brand new mirror. It cost me 60 just to fix the lawn mower. But that was a month ago, and nobody will call us back or answer emails to compensate us. If they offered me free movers I would not take it. read more

Unreliable, terrible customer service and left our things in another state for weeks.

TERRIBLE. We moved in early March and it was a nightmare with this unprofessional company. It started off great, our interaction with the sales lady was fantastic, so much so we paid more than the competitors as she sold us on how much the company cares and would take care of us and our belongings. Fast forward 3 weeks later, movers show up with paperwork stating our mattresses should be wrapped in bags, 2 mirror boxes for 2 large mirrors (dur) and special wrapping for an antique china cabinet (all items agreed to that we would pay additional for). Well NONE of those items were in the truck, so we bring it to the supervisor's attention and his answer was "someone didn't put it on the truck". Ok so you don't check the paperwork before you leave every day? Strike 1. So now due to their lack of customer service 2 out of 3 of our mattresses were put on a dirty floor - disgusting. I was the one that told them to wrap the 3rd mattress and the supervisor is now telling his managers he did, Strike 2. WE had to supply the packing materials for the antique china cabinet and our dresser drawers opened 2x and our stuff fell out once in our front yard and once on a porch. Strike 3. Add on that the hardware for one of the bedrooms went missing (these things happen we get it). After a thorough search of both homes we called the company to let them know they in turn checked the truck and other areas for us, when the parts couldn't be located they sent their "QA guy" out to do the repairs, he complained the entire time, took no responsibility and then when he didn't assess all the parts complained he had to go back to the hardware store, so it's our fault you didn't pay attention? Strike 4, wait there is no strike 4! So finally we decide we had to contact the Company as the salesperson had told us and gave us marketing materials about how much they really care about the customers. We sent them an email to let them know and the response back was pretty much "we believe our movers not you" so what they are telling us that they don't believe their salesperson, their own company documentation and the customer is wrong. Save your money and your sanity go with another moving company or hire 4 random guys outside Home Depot, they'll treat you better. UPDATE: they did not shrink wrap 2 of the mattresses as the comment below states the floor of their truck was dirty and the antique cabinet was on their documentation which we have a copy of.....again the "customer is wrong" with them. How do you lose a couch, find it a week later, without the cushions then tell me they're not in the warehouse? This company has lost large furniture more than once. They lost an antique table also and when half of my couch did arrive there were holes in the bottom. This couch is three months old. I still have payments to make on it and I can't even use it the way HALF of it is. Now I get to run around in circles with them until they find my furniture or pay up. Hampton Roads Moving and Storage moved us from Yorktown to Gainesville, Virginia. They showed a complete disregard for our belongings. We filed a damage claim for $5,473.74 and Hampton Roads sent a check for $757.60, with no attempt to negotiate. In addition to asking them to be more careful during packing and loading, when we arrived at our destination, we remarked to the driver (Darrel) that they were doing damage as they unloaded, his words were "file a claim." Examples of the abuses include, but are not limited to the following; they bounced our belongings on a hand truck down the front stairs upon leaving Yorktown, which would explain the cracked TV screen (which we had to learn by calling a TV technician, and could not have known at the time of delivery); they broke a headboard in transit and glued it together and tried to hide it upon delivery; an Air Force ring never made it to the destination; chunks were knocked out of several pieces of furniture; our king mattress was folded in half as they carried it up the stairs, splitting the seam. In addition they destroyed personal items that cannot adequately be claimed, such as momentoes our children made in school. Things were haphazardly packed, crushed and stuffed into boxes. In thirty years of military and civilian moves, we have never had such substantial damage or movers who could have cared less for our belongings. We chose Hampton Roads Moving and Storage in large part because they are the local Paul Arpin representative. Please note that they were not the lowest bidder. We had an excellent move with another Paul Arpin franchise back in 1998. In that case, the damage was so minor, we did not file a claim, plus we gave the two men who handled the entire job in 1998 a sizeable tip. Since, for this move, we chose Hampton Roads Moving and Storage based on Paul Arpin, how do we hold Paul Arpin accountable for the results as well? Otherwise, what's the point in having Paul Arpin on the side of the truck or having any association to the Paul Arpin name? This is not just about the damage claim. It's more about the Paul Arpin reputation and how they treat their customers. If Paul Arpin and Hampton Roads Moving and Storage are going to treat their customers with such disregard and deliberately abuse their belongings, potential customers, especially the military, need to know. For example, how do I claim the mementoes my kids made for me that the packers, Darrell and DeClark, crushed and mangled? I brought this up to Hampton Roads Moving and Storage and they had no answer. So the message they are sending is that they can treat our treasured belongings however they want and there is absolutely nothing the customer can do, nor are there any repercussions for the movers. To date I have mailed the President of Paul Arpin, David Arpin, asking for his help, and called Donald Queeny, owner of Hampton Roads Moving and Storage three times regarding my complaint to the Better Business Bureau, all with no response. I will update this posting if Paul Arpin and Hampton Roads Moving and Storage "make it right." Otherwise, I feel morally compelled to let any potential customers know how they could be treated. read more

Worst Moving company on the planet! Do not use under any circumstance!!!! First they do zero vetting of their employees. One of the crew broke up two of our little girls piggy banks, stole all the money, and tried to hide it by covering it up with paper in a box and putting it in the trash. Luckily the guy was a moron and put it in the wrong recyclable bin so we found out about it. Possible owner/crew lead (not sure) promised to compensate us for it and never did, even though he defended the employee because he said he knew his dad. Same crew member also stole a box checks from an area we told them not to touch. Besides being thieves, they never showed up on time and never finished when they said they were going to, pissed in the floor of the bathroom (consistently), packed trash from their lunch breaks into our stuff (it was the thief), broke two pictures, our kids bunk beds, one of the kids bikes. Would never recommend using this company. If they were the last moving company on Earth, I would recommend doing it yourself. Completely unprofessional in everything they do. read more

I had Hampton Roads Moving and storage move a bedroom suit with a mattress during a beautiful day. There were three movers. I was very pleased at how they handled my furniture, protecting it with blankets. When they brought up my mattress which has been barely used that cost me almost $1000, they ripped a large whole in the mattress. What has irritated me is that the mattress weighs over 100lbs yet they are only paying 60 cent per lb up to 100lbs which equals $60.00 total. I have moved this mattress with other people and this should not have happened! Sixty dollars for my $1000.00 mattress... does not seem right. read more
