Arthur is the best! He is great at knowing exactly what your hair needs, and he's really good with short hair. I've had a pixie cut for years, and thanks to a recent cut from Arthur, it looks better than ever. I highly recommend going to him if you are in an "I don't know what to do with my hair" phase like I was. The salon itself is also really nice, and the people who work at the desk are friendly and accommodating. I was looking for a new stylist. I googled salons near my home. Hampton Salon came up on maps. I called and wanted to make an appointment explaining that I am looking for a new stylist. The girl on the phone said to me "Oh, we are a very exclusive Newport Beach upscale salon and we do not just take people randomly." For years I went from stylist to stylist to stylist explaining how I want to go back to a lighter blonde again (instead of my dark blonde/light brown). For some reason nobody wants to actually do it, all they wanted me to do was come back 3-4 times in many steps to finally achieve the color I wanted after SIX months! Meanwhile 6 mos later, my hair is no lighter! (I am beginning to think they were aiming to just fatten their wallets with all the multi faceted steps they were taking on my hair!) I showed Jamie a picture of my hair when it was the color I liked and bam, done! In an instant! And she even has no problem doing small touch ups inbetween! This review is for Arthur Margain, the best colorist in OC. So... I'm sitting here at another salon, getting a blowout and before you start, NO, I'm absolutely not cheating on Arthur!!! I live in Las Vegas so sometimes Arthur can be a bit GU (Geographically Undesirable). I needed a blowout and here I am. I'm on the chair and all of a sudden a bunch of the colorists surround me and are asking who does my color and complimenting me on it. This NEVER happens but get used to it when you're a client of Arthur's. This is a true testament to how friggin amazing Arthur is! I cannot sing his praises enough. This is the only colorist that breaks necks of other colorists oohing and ahhing over his work. He is constantly educating himself on the best techniques and he's a master at his craft and true artist. So yeah, look no further, he's your man! I cannot stress this enough. So, I looked on Yelp for reviews on Hampton, and read every single one of them. I chose Arthur. He is not only a mega talented colorist and stylist, he is a total sweetheart. My hair is blonde, so getting the right amount of shade of color can be not an easy task. I'm very picky. So, I trusted Arthur, and he succeeded to make my hair gorgeous and natural. He is also a great educator on color, upkeep, etc. Great hair exits this salon like nobody's business. If you are ready to take a chance with your blonde hair needing TLC, and want to look fabulous, go to Arthur. Very nice and very talented. So happy I went to him. A true diamond in the rough!!! This review is for Arthur: I recently came back from Europe after a few months of traveling/studying and my hair was a total mess. It was very grown out and dead on the ends, and there was breakage from previous coloring treatments. I found Arthur on yelp and decided to make an appointment He wasn't too booked: as I was able to schedule an appointment less than a week later. He did an amazing job! I told him what I was wanting to do with my hair and showed him some pictures of the color for reference and he gave me exactly that! The whole process took about 4 hours because Arthur was so meticulous and detailed when it came to the color. I will go back again and again to have him do my hair! I took a class from a hairdresser here named Arthur. Not everyone can do really good color. His work is amazing as it is, so having him as a teacher was a great experience. As I learned from him I realized why some good stylists charge as much as they do. it is not only because they give good looking hair, but it is also because of the high quality of products that these type of stylist invest on people. She listened to everything I had to say and was so attentive to give me exactly what I was looking for. She also made sure I knew the outcome of every decision we made before settling on anything and walked me through each step, the whole way, working little by little. She also spoke the truth, in love, and I'm so appreciative of that because her honesty, and willingness to walk me through what my ideas of a good haircut were, kept me from asking for all the wrong things, and getting all the wrong things. So I looked up Hampton salon on yelp to get a trim since my stylist moved salons as I pulled into the parking lot I see an older gentleman yelling profanities at a mobile business employee.. decided to mind my own business.. and proceeded to walk into the salon.. but couldn't help feeling a bit offended over the insults this man was directing towards this poor guy who had simply parked across the street.. and to my amazement after harassing what apparently was a salon tool mobile service.. he turned around and walked into the salon passed me.. Paul Anthony Salazar at the Hampton Salon is THE BEST. I have extremely thick, course hair and he knows exactly how to thin it out. If I want to try something that he thinks won't exactly agree with my face, he tells me why and then suggests something else that will compliment my features instead. If I show him a picture from a magazine, he will get the style and cut exactly right for my face. Paul Anthony has been cutting my hair for almost 3 years and I absolutely stand by his work. I have tried to go to other small salons to save some money but just wasn't satisfied with the styling and the cut. After 2 disappointing and cheaper cuts, I had to go back to Paul Anthony. I was on vacation in Newport Beach with my 11 year old daughter. She needed side bangs trimmed. We were staying at the Marriott on Bayview Circle. The concierge at the hotel recommended the Hampton Salon, adding the it was a short walk from the hotel. We called and got an appointment within the hour with Lindsey Carter. Our experience with the salon was very positive. We arrived on time and did not need to wait. Consistent with an earlier Yelp reviewer, after her cut, Lindsey told us there would be no charge. Really? Wow! Our experience with Lindsey was fabulous. She is sweet and friendly. She gave us suggestions for vacation excursions and recommended an update to my daughter's hairstyle to include more taper of bangs to frame her face. The cut was as good as ones she has received from Manhattan Upper East Side salons, with much better price point. Below are additional comments from my daughter: Lindsey was very nice. Arthur gave me the perfect haircut! I haven't had a professional haircut in 5 or 6 years and wasn't sure exactly what I wanted. I have short hair that was starting to lose its shape and texture and I didn't know how to tell someone what I wanted. When I got to the salon Arthur did a consultation with me, which involved looking at the texture of my hair, how it grows, etc. He asked me about what I wanted my hair to do. As he cut my hair he kept checking in with me to ask if certain spots were short enough, if the texture was just right, and if I had any suggestions. Towards the end of the haircut I told him that I wanted something different in the back, and when he did it he said, "you were right, that looks way better!" I felt very involved and like I was truly getting the haircut that I wanted. The last couple of times I've been to a salon I've felt like it was kind of "in their hands" and I would just have to cross my fingers that I would like it. This is not at all the case with Arthur! He asked me about what kind of look I wanted and how I wanted my hair to fall, and the results are completely perfect. I got the exact haircut that I wanted, and I didn't even know what haircut I wanted ahead of time. I knew that I wanted it to look good, flatter my face shape, and be really low-maintenance. Arthur did a wonderful job and even suggested some products that would help me keep my hair looking the way I wanted with minimal effort. Plus, we chatted the whole time, which was fun because Arthur is hilarious, friendly, and entertaining! Definitely check out this salon and ask for Arthur.
