BYOB doesn't get any better than this! The food is delicious, and you get plenty of choices from their fixed menu. The only disappointment is the dessert. At the end of a meal, I'm looking for something creamy, sweet, crunchy, yet their desserts never satisfy this need. I'm completely baffled by the scores of positive reviews of Han 202 as I was thoroughly disappointed with my meal. The menu has a very weak theme of "Chinese fusion", which in reality is a hodgepodge of traditional Chinese offerings and classical French/American dishes with the occasional Asian influence. The menu items are painfully conservative in nature and have no direction or vision. Execution is unacceptably subpar given the rudimentary nature of the technical errors. Unless you are fixated on the concept of prix fixe dining and don't want to break the bank, there really isn't much reason to go to Han 202. A quick summary of what I had: - "Tuna Sandwich" amuse-bouche: completely bland and the texture of the bread was between stale and toasted. I didn't see the point of starting the meal off with something so lifeless. - Smoked salmon salad: the salmon was far too salty and tasted like it might have come out of a package. - Salt & Pepper Calamari: the calamari was seasoned well and I enjoyed the onion/bell pepper garnish (despite my confusion with what the chef was going for here) but the squid was not cooked long enough and was visibly under-fried. Why not just leave it in there for another 30 seconds to make it golden brown? - Rack of Lamb: more issues with technique, as it was clear that the pan used to cook the lamb was not hot enough. No sear whatsoever on the meat, leaving a fatty and unappealing texture to the crust. The lamb was served at room temperature and the bonito plum sauce was a complete afterthought; I tasted neither components of the sauce. - Hot Chocolate Soufflé: this was the only satisfactory preparation of the night. Nice presentation as the soufflé rose quite nicely, and the dish was not overly sweet. A reasonably good ending to what was a disappointing meal overall. Went to HAN on a saturday and were seated immediately for our 7:30 reservation. We found the food to be outstanding although if you are looking for large portions this is not the place for you. However, given others reviews of this establishment, I was afraid we would be rushed out so they could turn over the table. That was not the case though as we sat and finished our wine and chatted with the couple next to us who were from the neighborhood and frequent HAN all the time. I went to Han 202 on a very enthusiastic recommendation, something about how the food was "to die for." At the end of the meal, I had to disagree. Definitely the meal had great value. Their entire menu was for their 5 courses for $20 consisting of soup, salad, appetizer, entrée and dessert. Starting with the soup, I got the spicy crab meat. They all seemed to be a miso soup base with a couple, emphasize a couple, pieces of crab meat. I'm sure the other soups were very similar. My salad was not at all what I liked. I got the green apple salad and I probably should have asked for dressing on the side. The apples were thinly sliced and quite tart and good, but it came drenched in oil, leaving a really slimy taste plus the strange juxtaposition of oil and the sweet apple. Maybe the cucumber salad that my dinnermates had was better with the oil, but I'm not convinced. On the other hand, my scallop appetizer was well-done and probably the highlight. The scallop was perfectly cooked and the sauce was a nice touch too. The Chilean seabass entrée was well cooked, but entirely too salty with the heapings of sauce added on top. The other entrees looked about the same, with too much sauce. The dessert was good, a vanilla ice cream topped with a tomato/mango sorbet. I actually really enjoyed the sorbet and the ice cream, but that was more likely due to not having had ice cream in quite some time. There are no choices for dessert but about 3-5 choices for each of the other courses. It's definitely a cute restaurant and has a good atmosphere. I couldn't figure out how there could be a place offering a full 5 course meal for $20. Doesn't it sound like something food myths are made of? Well folks it's actually the truth and it's definitely worth the visit to Bridgeport. Han 202 is more refined Chinese fusion. I thought about it and sure, if you portion out Chinese food and make it into separate courses like this then yes, $20 seems feasible. Add in BYOB and you've got a gem for your pocketbook. Start with soup, followed by a salad, appetizer and entree, then finish with the dessert (there is just one on the menu so no options for you here!) The space isn't huge but is intimate, clean and modern. The staff is friendly and doesn't seem to tire of the multitude of patron comments about the price -- really people can't seem to get over this fact! The menu is set (no seasonal additions here) but is a solid array of options for both vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. I enjoyed the crab miso soup with its spice but might have wanted a bit more crab. The apple salad was good but I could see it getting a bit redundant without the addition of the beef. Walnut shrimp was a smaller portion appetizer, but is one of my favorite options on a Chinese menu - it's gooey cream cheese sauce is always a guilty pleasure. Lots of entree options and the fish ones seemed to all be a favorite at my table. My dining companions ordered dishes that came heavily sauced. I opted for the salmon, a smaller portion but the texture was good and I loved the mango sauce that came on the side. Went with Johnny B and Mrs. Johnny B to Han 202 on our way out of Chicago on Friday night. We didn't want to sit in traffic on I55 so we enjoyed a great dinner during rush hour and drove to St. Louis traffic free. Han202 has one of the best deals in the city. $20 fixed price menu for 5 courses...unbelievable. When we walked in on Friday night we were asked if we had a reservation to which we replied no. I looked down and it appeared they had a lot of reservations coming in but they were able to fit us in. I ordered the miso soup, beef with lemongrass salad, pan fried ahi tuna, general tso's chicken and the standard dessert...vanilla ice cream with mango tomato sorbet. I really love the fact that the servers take your order using a touch pad; way cool. I wasn't sure what I was getting for $20 but what a great deal. The food was tasty, the portions were large and the service was great. The servers even bring new silverware for each course. They have a wonderful attention to detail. While a little out of the way, Han202 is a great spot for one of the best bargins in the city. read more

I love the $20 prix fixe menu, it's a great deal and you definitely feel you got your money's worth. I would love to try many more items on their menu! I got the following: Spicy king crab miso - very tasty, and definitely had a kick of spice! Romaine lettuce and seaweed salad - this was really, really great if you like that translucent, bright green seaweed salad they sometimes serve at sushi places. It had a great dressing on it, can't quite place what it was. Shrimp spring egg roll - biggest pieces of shrimp I had ever seen in an egg roll. They were large chunks, not the diced filling stuff. This was also very good! Shrimp and scallops in garlic sauce - I thought this was really great. I think it may have a bit of MSG but it was delicious! The scallops were very well done and the sauce was very flavorful. It was a reasonable sized portion and there were plenty of vegetables. Vanilla ice cream with mango tomato sorbet - I was hesitant about the tomato portion but it came together pretty well! The only thing was that it might have had some freezer burn so it was like eating flavored ice rather than ice cream. The only problem I had is that the service is RIDICULOUSLY slow. There were only 2 waitresses and the place was absolutely full the whole time. The waitresses were also just very slow when moving around and would look and double check and triple check what was coming out and going out to people which I guess could be seen as a good thing but came off as being not confident and forgetful. Bridgeport, i never knew what secrets you've been hiding!! I rarely venture to this part of town, but when i heard of Han and me and my friend were in the mood for something different, we thought "why not?" and i'm so glad. This place is the bee's knees! The price is oh so right, and the food is downright delicious. The alaskan king crab soup is phenomenal, as is the beef lemongrass salad. The ahi tuna and apple salad is nothing to write home about, but the tempura is very tasty. As for entrees, My friend got the mongolian beef and it was ok, but nothing compared to the crispy beef with orange extract which was perfection! Typically for Chinese food I would hit up Chinatown and those hole in the wall places, but Han 202 combined delicious food with a clean and contemp atmosphere. 5 course for $20 plus it's BYOB was PERFECT. At first my fiancee didn't think the food would fill him up but by the end of the night he was stuffed and satisfied :) Our 5 courses Soup: King Crab Spicy Miso - good but a bit too salty Salad: Lemongrass Beef with green apple - no complaints, SOO good! Cucumber salad with crabmeat - average, absolutely nothing special about it Appetizer: Sea Scallop - note how it's not pluralized, good but they only give you 1 scallop Salt & Pepper Calamari - calamari was good and fresh and cooked perfectly, but they need to go easy on the oil Entree: Monkfish with black bean sauce - DELICIOUS!!!! definitely going back for this! the sauce was so good i wanted to like it from the plate :) Shrimp and Scallop in garlic sauce - also really good but tasted like regular chinese food The service here is specatular!!!! It was an absolutely frigid evening. The snow fell as giant crystals, as I parked on a side street and walked over. I met my friend out front. The curtains were closed. Afraid that we had caught Han 202 on a night that they were closed, I pulled on the door. It opened. The host and waitress gave warm hellos and sat us down near the kitchen (per our request to stay as far away from the bitter cold as possible). Besides, I always like sitting next to the kitchen so that I can look in and see the artists at work. After warming up with some hot tea, we ordered from the $35 prix fixe menu. My friend began with an arugula salad, which he said was quite good. I personally have never been a fan of arugula, so I went with another option (there were three): Octopus Terrine. It was at this point that I realized how blended the cuisine was. The delicious purple arms of the octopus had been stuck together with gelatin to form a slice. The taste was a little fishy, but mostly it was savory. It was a filling appetizer that I would likely get again. Next came out the first entree. After explanations of the dish by our hosts (a little to formal for my typical yelp cell pictures), we chowed down. My friend received Shanghai Dumplings that looked mouthwateringly good. My own platter was less memorable...seriously, I can't remember it, and I ate there less than a week ago. With that said, I do vaguely recall it tasting good, so there you go! Then, it was time for the main course. Upon our waitress' recommendation, we both had their take on filet mignon. It was amazing. The sweet taste of the Chinese sauce mixed well with the caramelized onions and perfectly cooked medium steak. For those of you less in love with red meat, there were not one but two different fish options on the menu. Finally, it was time for dessert and coffee. Of all the good cuisines that I had at Han 202, nothing surpassed the decadent, yet light taste of my Hot Chocolate Souffle. I just couldn't stop eating this dessert until each and every crumb had been expertly slurped up. I also indulged in an organic French-pressed coffee. It was a little on the pricy side ($6), but after a meal like that I'll forgive that standard practice of the restaurant industry. Verdict: Han 202 ended up truly impressing me. Wow, I am surprised by all the high ratings for Han. Hence, I decided to give it a try with my best GFs and our BFs. I was excited that it was in my neighborhood as well. I had actually driven past it and BF was saying how it was just another one of those wannaba fancy Chinese places and would not want to go... but turns out I wanted to try it seeing all these reviews and seeing it had an awesome prix-fixe menu. Yes, 5 courses for $20 bucks! Yes, BYOB with no corkage fee! So I had a hard time making a reservation because either no one answered the phone (I guess they are seriously only open between 4-10PM right now) or the line was busy. But finally I got through and found that they were pretty booked but they had an opening at 8:30 for us. But strange thing was, you can't make a reservation for more than 4 people - so i had to ask for 2 reservations of 4 (??? why is this so??). They asked for my credit card number to reserve the tables but I didn't feel comfortable with that so they let me skip that by confirming the next day that I would still be coming in (someone called me around 3PM to confirm that my party would still make the 8:30 reservation as they had turned down a lot of reservations). We were seated right away when we arrived at 8:30 - all the tables were filled but yet there were also no one waiting for tables. We did get 2 tables of 4 next to each other but were told we could not push them altogether - it was against their policy (again !?!?!!?!). Made no sense to us.... Perhaps it was because we were one of the last few tables but they started to run out of the things on the menu - no more sushi appetizers, one friend got the last NY strip so by the time it got to BF's turn he had to choose something else and they also did not serve the pork chop anymore although it was on the menu. We all tried each other dishes but heres what BF and I had: Soup: Spicy king crab miso soup: the soup wasn't that spicy to me; it reminded slightly of the spicy cabbage soup you get at korean restaurants but now with tofu. The crab meat was delicious though. Salad: lemon grass beef salad and crab meat cucumber salad: both salads were good. BF commented that the cucumbers were really fresh (he devoured it). I like my lemongrass beef salad.. I thought the pairing with green apple was quite interesting and went well. One GF has the lettuce seaweed salad and it your typical seaweed salad with lettuce - nothing too different. Salad portions were bigger than a side salad portion, which was a good thing. Appetizer: walnut shrimp and salt and pepper calamari: the shrimp was nothing special.. it wasn't crispy like how most restaurants make them and there were only a few bits of walnuts (not full pieces) and the mayo flavor was really strong.. it was missing the sweet honey taste I like. The salt and pepper calamari turned out to be octopus and it was pretty good although the seasoning was quite heavy (BF devoured as well). Another GF had the fish cakes which I thought was pretty good - it was very smooth, didn't taste like fish paste, which I hope means it was freshly made! It also came with fresh sprouts, which were delicious together. Appetizers were a small portion - but sizeable enough for you to have a good taste and also share with your friends. Entrees: since there was no meat left for the BF, he chose the shrimp and scallop in garlic sauce. They have a lot of fish entrees, so I chose to try a fish hoping for something different (as I usually don't go for fish). I opted for the halibut in the shacha sauce. The entrees are smaller than I would have expected since the salads were quite large but its a good size for you to be able to finish yourself and not have any leftovers. Shrimp and scallop wasn't that unique - nothing to rave about. I liked my haibut with shacha sauce. My dish also had some stir-fried veggies, which I thought tasted well with the shacha sauce. One GF had the duck breast with hot bean sauce, which also tasted good. Another had the seabass and the fish was very flaky - not sure if I'm a seabass fan actually now. Dessert: mango sorbet with vanilla cream and fresh lychee on the side. Since I'm allergic to mango, I didn't try the sorbet/ice cream but I did eat my fresh lychee. BF had the sorbet/icecream but said it wasn't anything special - it was a bit too frozen even. Overall, the 5 course meal is a good size. I didn't think anything stood out that well that I would come back though. I thought the salads were the best thing on the menu - you tasted fresh ingredients that were paired nicely. Soups, appetizers and entrees were ok. Other than the strange policy of 4 people reservations and seating, there is good service as they changed our utensils quite often and plating is pretty so it stands out from your typical Chinatown restaurant. My first experience at Han 202 was wonderful. I say first because I definitely plan on going back. When I first heard this place was michelin recommended, I knew I had to try it. It's wonderful food at an excellent price - $25 prix fixe for 5 courses! That's a pretty good deal. When my guest and I arrived, we first noticed how small and intimate the space is. There's probably in total seating for up to 40 people inside. It's also very quiet - totally didn't bother us but not something we expected. Dishes we had throughout the evening were amazing. Very elegant and simple. My favorite of the night was the stir-fry beef and green apple salad. I was surprised how well the apple complimented the beef! Although it's a trek for me (It's in Bridgeport and we live up north), it was well worth it. I highly recommend venturing out there for the experience. read more

I've been going through an internal battle in reviewing my past experience with Han 202 for fear that this beloved place would start gaining the popularity of my other fav BYOBs: Tango Sur and HB. As good as they are, we all know how horrendous the wait is for those places! This is place is unreal. The value is outstanding and the presentation is superb for the deal. The wait can be a little slow, but what can you expect for a $20 5 course meal with NO BYOB corkage. 1. Spicy King Crab Miso-YUM. There were nice chunks of king crab in Han's fiery take on the traditional miso. 2. Beef and Green Apple Salad-O M G flavor utopia...I am crying here just typing and thinking about this beef. So soft and flavorful, and when paired with the shredded crunchy apple bits-UMAMI! Bigs got the Spring with truffle oil and goat cheese which was also great, but no comparison to the Beef. 3. Walnut Shrimp-3 Large Prawns lightly coated, atop a sea of creamy sauce and sweet walnuts. Crying again just thinking I have a packed salami sandwich for lunch today :(. 4. Sea Bass-Very moist and well-cooked. Portions were substantial for the deal. Bigs got the NY Strip in spicy miso which was also perfectly cooked rare. 5. White chocolate ball-I think? Everything was so good, my head exploded before I got to dessert I don't remember it. LOVE HAN 202. LOVE HAN 202. Tidbit is to not sit in the back during the winter. My prix fixe: crab wonton soup, green apple and flank steak salad, duck dumpling, frenched pork loin, and chocolate truffle. The space is lovely, unexpectedly so since surrounding area seems a bit run-down. The service was excellent. Go-to-the-bathroom-and-find-your-napkin-folded good. They don't charge any ridiculous corkage fees (Habana Libre!!) and are good about answering your questions (though, the limited menu shouldn't give you much to ponder). The only problem is something that a few people touched on, I was hungry about an hour after dinner ended. I have put on a few pounds over the last few months so maybe that's just the obesity talking? I'll definitely be back to answer that question though. read more

I tried this place last night and I can report this place has a lot of potential. Currently, they are offering a tasting menu that gives you a starter soup, salad, appetizer and entree for $20/person. (they also bring a dessert at the end which is included) Han 202 is also a BYOB at the moment which is nice. The decor has changed for the better from the previous italian restaurant. Comfortable chairs and the benches have throw pillows. The decor is simple, clean and appealing. We were waited on immediately and they offered to keep our wine chilled. We ordered a variety of items from the tasting menu and I can report the calamari is outstanding and is a must try item. The apple salad or apple salad with beef were very refreshing. All other items were executed very well. My only complaint is the crab meat in the dishes where offered appears to be imitation crab (pollack fish). Although, it was served in the soups or entrees with a lot of other seafood so I didn't care too much. Anyway, I would sum this place up as a restaurant that bridges the gap between Chinatown and Bridgeport, in that, the food is a little more healthy than what you typically find in Chinatown. This place is easy to pass up if you don't know it's there - I just happened to see it while stuck in Sox traffic and am so glad I did! Went here twice with friends - once for lunch and a few weeks later for dinner to take advantage of a discount coupon they provided. Oddly, we were the only ones there the entire time we were there for lunch, but when we entered, we were chastised for not having reservations. That was kind of weird but we didn't let it spoil our experience. Both times, the food was wonderful - it tasted fresh with wonderful flavor. We had the crispy calamari, General Tso chicken, noodles, dumplings, Mongolian beef - nothing was a disappointment The price was reasonable, the service very pleasant and it's very conversation-friendly. Refined, imaginative, well prepared Chinese menu, served by knowledgeable, polite staff, and 5 courses for $20. This is worth at least one trip just to check it out. I did just that, and I will definitely be back for more. All of the food is freshly prepared, well balanced, and the portions are so that I felt I got just enough of each plate. The staff can answer any questions about the menu and take time to explain each component of the dish when it arrives. We had a very fun GNO or ladies dining experience, whichever moniker you prefer, here last night. BYOB + $20 fixed price menu + a friend with a car to drive us to Bridgeport = high levels of anticipation for great food and great conversation. Although two of our party of 5 dropped out at the last minute, but they were very accomodating at Han. The space is minimalist, but somehow cozy with wing backed upholstered chairs and a pillow-strewn wall bench. No corkage fee, a delicious red, plus fun flat bottomed wine glasses and frequently refilled ice water took care of the beverages. The food is unique mostly because I had never eaten high-end Chinese food before. Soups were nice. Minus a star for a few king crab shells I found in mine, though it was spicy and tasty. The salads were crisp, well seasoned and surprisingly nuanced for what initially looked like piles of lettuce (spring salad) or shredded apples (green apple salad) on a plate. The appetizers were yum seafood, and our veggie friend got orange tempura. Yes, fried orange slices with this tangy spicy sauce, and they were great! Entrees were equally good, although the veggie option in this round wasn't as exciting...stir fried vegetables? The meal finished off with a white chocolate truffle with a raspberry and a basil sauce. It was wonderful. And coming from someone who usually doesn't like chocolate, I feel that is saying a lot. It would be nice to have more than one dessert option, too. The restaurant was about half full in the middle of the week; and thank goodness for that because we were definitely in the throes of girls' night convo that may have offended nearby patrons...but there weren't any!!! :) Service was good, albeit a little too fast for our liking. And portion sizes were "perfect for a group of girls, but a boy might still be hungry". I'd go back to see the next menu. For the money we spent, and the good reviews I expected better. First off, two out of my group of six got sick and diarrhea after eating. Not sure what dish it was, either the miso soup, the lamb entree or the shrimp and scallop dish my friend had. Either way, something was off. For what I experienced: The ambiance is very nice, and something I would not expect out of Bridgeport. Service was nice, I suppose. However, food is always my main draw, and Han 202 definitely didn't live up to its reviews. I had the miso soup while others had the dumpling soup. While I found my spicy miso soup to be good, the bowl was tiny. It would be fine I suppose if they didn't give us a gigantic spoon that could barely fit in the bowl. The scuff marks on the bowl said it all. I was afraid it was going to tip over as I drank the soup. Also my friends with the dumpling soup said it was not that great. The apple salad truffle oil was quite good, and I really liked it. However the beef apple salad was wayyyy too salty. I got the shanghai dumpling expecting xiao long bao, and while similar ish, it wasn't . I still liked them even if one friend mentioned they tasted like frozen from the supermarket. I have nothing to say about my entree dish, beef or steak or something like that, it was okay. The Mongolian beef my friend had looked really saucy with lots of onions and little meat. The souffle was not what I was expecting so I give them a pass on that , since I remembered then that I didn't like souffles haha. Another one where the spoon was way too big for the dish. The ice cream I liked much better, wish I had chosen that. The entire time during dinner a weird background music with trumpets or some kind of horn instrument was playing and it repeated over and over and over again, until it got quite annoying. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but it still look time for the entrees to come out. Also I was really annoyed by how big the utensils were overall compared to the size of the dishes. Please get utensils that match the size of your dishes as it looks bad that you can't even afford matching utensils. Definitely a twist to the Chinese food I grew up with - and about time! Chef really made a fancy display of Chinese food. We went with the Pre Fixe menu for my birthday and since it was the first time. Started with a beautiful lobster and beet salad with goat cheese. Lobster was fantastic and fresh!! Others included arugula and truffle oil salad, salmon salad, also fresh. Crispy quail, scallop and dumplings were the next courses. All very fresh. Main entrees were pork chops, red snapper and General Tso's chicken... Fish was delicious!!!! Dessert was pretty good. Blueberry tart.... Chocolate soufflé and crème brûlée hit the spot. read more

This restaurant thrives off the pretense of offering a five-course meal for $25. I would not be so gracious as to classify the portion sizes as bona fide dinner courses. You'll be served underwhelming portions of soup and salad, a pittance of an appetizer, a modest entree, and microscopic dessert. The portion sizes could have been forgiven if any one of them were actually good, but, alas, all of them were average at best. My courses were snow crab miso soup, romain & seaweed salad, soft shell crab appetizer, New York strip entree, and chocolate truffle dessert. All the dishes screamed "meh..." The truffle was an absolute insult. I doubt it was more than a cubic inch in volume. I was very tempted to flick it back into the kitchen (which we were seated next to). In addition, at the beginning of the meal, we were offered cups of tea. It was not on the menu, so I expected that it was complimentary--as it is in nearly any Chinese restaurant. The tea itself smelled strongly of what seemed to be perfume, and the smell and taste were so disagreeable that I drank one sip of it and pushed it far away from me. Lo and behold, at the end of the night there was a $6 charge for the non-potable tea. Instead of making a big deal about it, I just subtracted $6 from the tip and gave a little signing statement on the bill. This place is certainly nothing special. I do not plan on returning. Surprising find in Bridgeport. Sleek and modern design. Went on a Wednesday night without reservations and we were seated right away. To be honest, the restaurant was rather empty. The food was delicious. The only option was the prix fixe menu for $35. It was 4 courses plus a small appetizer before our first course. Food was delicious with many options for each course. I would recommend this place as a great spot for small dinner party. BYOB is always a plus. Paid Street parking all around the restaurant made it an easy destination. read more

I had to pick a place for a party of 6 for a friend's birthday. My husband suggested Han 202 with the idea that a prix fix menu and BYOB combo would be easy for bill time since there is one non-drinker, etc.... We had been once before and I thought it was good. BUT --WOW! Things have changed at Han 202 - and all for the best! Their design immediately caught my eye. It has a new look - new furniture, modern vibe, clean lines and just enough warmth. Service was perfectly friendly and we never felt rushed. There seemed to be some confusion on pricing on past reviews. Their prix fix price is $35 for 4 courses - However there is one complimentary starter upon arrival not included in the 4 courses. We each ordered a variety of options from the 4 courses - some meat and some seafood and we were all delighted! If you are looking for a lovely night out - this is worth the visit! The value is amazing - especially for a group. If it's been a while since you've been here, check it out again. You'll be glad you did. My only tip would be - if their is a true vegetarian or vegan member in your party, this may not be the best option. read more

I have always wanted to go here ever since I saw it on Chicago's best. The prix-fixe menu is cheap. Like I have never seen one at $35 for four courses. The food is also very delicious. I loved their crispy quail and they also had these amazing mash potatoes. It was a total win. Going there really lifted my spirits from my bad work day. read more

In fairness, I can't review the food because I didn't have the opportunity to try it. I'm giving a one-star review because Han202 very nearly ruined a trip to Chicago. We had wanted to try Han202 before moving away from the city but didn't get a chance to, so for my spouse's birthday trip, I planned a surprise party there with about a dozen friends. I started planning a couple months before the trip and was pleased with how responsive the manager was to my emails to set everything up and confirm all the details. When I called a week before to provide the final headcount, I found out that they had forgotten to write the reservation into their books, so they would not be able to accommodate us. The manager was not onsite when I called and never responded to follow up emails and calls. This left me scrambling at the last minute to find a spot for a large group on a Friday night, which fortunately resolved itself. But on lack of customer service alone, I have to give a one-star review. read more

I did not know what to expect from Han 202. $25 for a 5 course menu on New Year's Eve? BYOB? I (and 3 other guests) was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the location is Bridgeport. For all you Northsiders, Bridgeport has some great restaurants and is easier than you think to get to. Located just off the Halsted bus. If you are driving you can get there in around 15 minutes from Irving Park. 31st street has a ton of metered parking and I've never had a problem not getting one. Once we arrived, we were quickly seated at the bar because our table was not ready. We were offered water and provided glasses for our wine. Yes, we opened our own wine - which is great because there is no corkage fees. We were seated at a lovely table by the window and promptly provided with a champagne bucket. The restaurant is a mix of modern and traditional décor. Nothing too remarkable. But the room had a great feel to it and if you're lucky, some very comfortable swingback chairs. The service was above average and the courses were spaced perfectly. The only issue we had was getting new glasses for our champagne. We ended up putting water to rinse our red wine out. But considering it was NYE, it was quickly overlooked. The food was interesting and very fresh. The Wonton and Chicken Fennel Broth was a big hit. However, the fish got lost in the Miso soup. Still very tasty. The salad & appetizer courses are small, but very appropriate for a 5 course meal. Again, ingredients were very fresh and our table was satisfied and surprised by the creative mix of flavors. Han 202 does a great job on providing a variety of entrees. For a 5 course set meal, there are a number of combinations to choose from. The duck breast & rack of lamb were perfectly cooked and the accompanying sauces make every bite wonderful. The desserts were more akin to palate cleansers. Small, bite size and daring. Skip the truffle and go with one of the sorbet combinations. Without a doubt I will be going back to Han 202. A very well-balanced, inventive, fresh meal and being BYOB you can to bring some great wine without the mark up. read more

A group of us (6 people total) dined here on a Saturday a few weeks ago for dinner. First I would like to comment on the food. It was very good! From the taste to the portions, I would say that it is really good Chinese food. The quail appetizer I had was seasoned and cooked well and just sings. The Peking duck was one of the most delicious duck I have ever had plated in a simple and elegant way. The chocolate dessert was also good. Also, this is BYOB so that is always good. Now let me comment on the service. It was bad! We had a reservation for 6 at 8:00pm and we were seated around 9:00pm. This would have been fine except that there were a lot of empty seats for 2 or 4 people at 8:00pm, the time of our reservation. A simple seating logistics excercise by the host could have easily rearranged the tables to accomodate 6 people and we would have been seated on time. The wait staff did mention menu items that were already sold out when we were ordering so some of us had to make other choices when it was time to serve the original order. On top of that, the wait staff were not that attentive. We have to call their attention multiple times to come to our table for simple things like water. Now for the price. This restaurant advertises their menu as prix fixe. This is only kinda correct. There were items on the menu that requires a supplement amount in addition to the prix fixe amount. The entree items with suppliment was acceptable but the dessert menu suppliment was rediculous. Out of the 7 desssert item available, 5 has a suppliment. Keep in mind that desert if part of the whole menu. Why don't they charge just $30 instead of $25 if most of the deserts are with suppliment! I believe people will still pay $30 because the food is that good! read more

We were nervous that we wouldn't get a table since no one was answering the phone to take our reservations (highly recommended), but we got there shortly after six and were promptly seated. I would never think to venture into Bridgeport for dinner, but my friend found it and hyped it up so I followed her lead. What a find! I was very impressed with the food. It's a pre-fixed menu with actually several ecclectic options for each course. And it went a 'lil somethin' like this...hit it! spicy crab miso soup - comes with a kick but tasty nonetheless. beef w/lemongrass salad - think beef w/thin stick slivers of granny smith apples crab rangoon - crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside note: got a taste of the octopus too - the best i've had general tso's chicken - deep fried chicken with just the right tang. The portions, nicely presented, were just enough, and it's BYOB. So it wasn't your usual chinese food; some nice variations for a mere twenty dollar price tag. They are simply decorated in a fairly small, clean space. To top it off, service was never intrusive, but always friendly and attentive. This may be, by far, my best find of the summer, and I'm sure to return. read more

Hard to have that meeting of the minds, but after trying the: crab miso soup, green apple salad, calamari, and monkfish with black pepper sauce, I can see how it would appeal to diverse palettes. 5-course meal. $20. BYOB. Need I say more? I ordered a vegetarian course which included miso soup, lettuce seaweed salad, cold japanese tofu, vegetable delight, and vanilla ice cream w/ mango sorbet. Everything leading up to the main course was so good that I was actually a bit disappointed by the vegetable delight. Don't get me wrong - on its own it would have be a good dish. It was just unspectacular in comparison. Stand-outs here include the lettuce seaweed salad and the pan-fried ahi tuna. The tuna was especially well-presented and carefully prepared. The ice cream dessert was delicate but still full of flavor. Oh, and there's a CVS three blocks to the west but they don't sell chilled white wine, so plan ahead! read more

I went to Han 202 last night for the first time, and I still feel guilty. So much delicious food for so little money! This place is destined to be one of my favorite Chicago restaurants. I had a very bad experience here with a server who turned out to be the manger. Asked for a cup of hot water to warm milk for my infant and she would not give it to me. She did offer to take it to the kitchen but I was uncomfortable with that. I tried to explain to her a few in various formats that any type of cup would suffice as long as the water was warm. She was confident that the warm water would break her glass wear, she wouldn't even give me a coffee mug. pro's: food presentation was good con's: Was not impressed at all with quality of food. I recently moved to a new neighborhood and wanted to try new local restaurants. Han 202 had great reviews so we checked it out. I was hesitant bc the restaurant was pretty quiet on a friday night. Well the food was PHENOMENAL! I cant believe what a great deal this meal was and no corking fee!! This has to be one of the best deals in town and the food was so well executed. It was good, and our group got a wide variety of dishes off our $20 prix fixe dinners to share so I got to try a lot of what they had to offer.....but I just need more food than this. I arrived hungry but not ravenous, and was still hungry after it was all done. Had I been there by myself I probably would've slapped another $20 on the table and had them do it all again. And I'm neither a fatty nor a big eater - I'm very average sized and typically don't stuff my face much. This place should probably offer a $25 or $30 option to add more courses, or increase the portion size. Next time maybe I'll see if they can accommodate that. So for any of you that are hungry, either pre-eat before going here or see if you can pay a little more and add another entree - they have such a big selection you probably won't be able to choose just one anyway. read more
