Hans has always been the place to go for good food but my last visit also included racial stereotypes by our waiter, a young Asian guy with a baseball cap who obviously had a case of word vomit. My partner and I came for lunch, when the waiter "welcomed" us it was cold. My partner asked about the drink menu, he nonchalantly pointed to the QR code and told her to pull it up, we shrugged it off and ordered our usual and a rośe wine. When a couple of white women sat behind us we heard how he warmly welcomed them, gave them suggestions on food as well as drinks. We were instantly bewildered as we didn't receive that same treatment. When we asked why he didn't approach us the same way or suggest food or drinks, he instinctively stated to my partner "you don't look like you like wine"... I guess because she's black, wears a fitted cap and tims. It felt disgustingly offensive and racist, guess only white women are wine drinkers. He didn't stop there... he returned to ask me again if I wanted a drink, after I already refused when we first sat down, I said no again and he asked "...is it because you have to go back to work?". He doesn't know, nor should he assume why I'm not drinking, I could be pregnant or a recovering alcoholic. I do have my own business btw, make my own hours, I just don't drink occasionally. Needless to say, he lost his tip and a couple of regulars. We won't be returning to discriminatory establishment. read more

In order, here is a list of my ten favorite things about my recent visit to Han Dynasty. 1. The inexplicable, larger than life mural of Mike Tyson (replete with face tattoo) between the bathrooms. I don't know who was like, "Chinese food in Brooklyn, gotta have Iron Mike on the walls!" But it was a good call. 2. The dan dan noodles. They taste good. 3. When my mom corrected our waiter's pronunciation of dan dan noodles. 4. The fact that their website is handynasty.com, and that it could very well be something very, very different if someone else had gotten there first. (I'm quite mature.) 5. The mapo tofu. Gelatinous, spicy, and oh so wonderful. 6. The eggplant with garlic sauce. Surprisingly excellent, even though I was skeptical when my dad ordered it. 7. The very convenient location inside DeKalb Market Hall, which is quite close to my apartment. My apartment, FYI, is what most things should be close to. 8. Wontons in chili oil. Always money. 9. The traditional Chinese soundtrack of Friends in Low Places, American Pie, etc. 10. The staff is very nice, and you really have no way of knowing who is staff and who isn't around here. In fact, I'm pretty sure a woman who doesn't even work here mixed up our dan dan noodles for us, just because she was walking by when they were dropped off, and she wanted to help out. The only downsides as I see them were that they were out of the ginger duck which made my brother sad, the pickled vegetable soup with fish was just aight, and things tend to be on the very oily side. I know some things are meant to be oily (wontons in chili oil), but some things don't need to be swimming in oil when just wading in it would do. I'll be back for all of it though, including that ginger duck we didn't get to try this time. read more

Han dynasty has become my go to take out spot. They make the food quick and it's always delicious! They have a pretty good lunch special on the weekdays as well. Since I love spicy food, I always end up ordering the hot sauce beef and the dry pepper fish but they have many other great options as well. read more

Delicious is all I can say! I loved the crispyness of the tofu in the kung pao style sauce & garlicy sauce chicken was so perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend. Be careful to not eat the chilies in the dishes! Nice to get a couple dishes to share! read more

Last night my brother, his gf and I decided to check out Han Dynasty inside Dekalb market, while walking by the food hall, and getting enticed by the beautiful aromas of Chinese cooking. We were very happy overall with our food. Food was mostly on point. We ordered the veggie Lomein, Chicken Kung Pao, and a shrimp with oyster sauce. The Kung Pao Chicken was our favorite dish of the night. It was delicious The shrimp dish was a bit too salty and barely enough shrimp for it to cost $21.99. That was definitely a disappointment! Lomein was pretty good. The ambience was chill and laid back. Overall, the service was on point, someone was always coming up to check on us, constantly, for water, or to check on our food. I definitely look forward to trying more of their dishes on my next visit. read more

During my trip to New York, I went to Han Dynasty Brooklyn for the first time in January and I'll never forget the incredible experience I had! I went there with my family and we ordered the kung pao chicken, dry pots, and the dan dan noodles which were my favorite dishes from their menu. The new Han Dynasty is open at last in the Dekalb Market Hall, which kind of makes this the best food hall now alongside the other great full service restaurant in here, Fortina across the way. They have the same awesome food as the other two NYC locations. It's between the small East Village location and the huge Upper West Side one in terms of size, though they have a convenient takeout window at this one. Get the Dan Dan, Kung Pao Chicken and Mapo Tofu for all the staples, and you'll be very happy. read more

Han Dynasty Brooklyn still lives rent free in my head. Visited about a month ago and I still think about the amazing experience we had dining here. So good, we went twice during our short 7-day trip to NYC. Welcoming atmosphere, incredible staff, delicious food. Manager Dan was very sweet, attentive, warm, and ensured we had the best time. From the cocktails, to the dry pots, spicy pepper wings, dan dan noodles, I find myself craving Han Dynasty all the way from Montreal. 10/10 would recommend this place. Maybe it's because it's at a different location than the one I usually go to in the city, but the Han Dynasty in Brooklyn was a bit of a let down. I ordered their classic Dan Dan noodles and these dumplings as well (and yes I'm well aware that that's a lot of food for one person- you only live once)! The Dan Dan noodles just lost their touch- I remember my first experience having them at the Union Square location and falling in love shortly thereafter- especially with the fact that yes it is pretty damn spicy after you mix it in very well. As much as I stirred to get all the red hot chili oil lathered on every noodle, there just wasn't that kick and honestly lacked flavor. The noodles also were good but a bit too chewy for my liking; I don't remember having this problem at the other location either. The dumplings however were a fantastic recommendation from my server since I wanted to try something new. If I ever would be in BK and return here, I'm definitely taking the staff's advice on what they like best. read more

I guess you never truly experience the rustic side of Brooklyn till here. Gritty, a bit weird but very soulful. Me and my guys loved it here. The journey there is a little awkward but it really gives a sort of excitement (inside the market hall). I am a big eater but portions are decent. Btw there's items at the bar that are bar exclusive, for instance smoked drinks and a spicy ice cube. Those are the only ones I know about. I've had the: - Wontons in Chili Oil $8.95 - Pea Leaves w/Garlic $17.95 - Hot Sauce Beef $19.95 - Dan Dan Noodle $9.95 - Dry Pot Honestly, my favorite is probably the dry pot and the wontons. Anything spicy is a hell-yes. There are lots of seating but it does get busy since it's in Dekalb Market so I'd recommend getting there at off-hours or making a reservation. read more

Slightly higher prices than your typical Chinese food but the taste is authentic. Hostesses and servers are a bit unenthusiastic, looking like they hate their job but I guess that's how I feel too. Cumin chicken is great but the absolute best thing is their spicy braised beef noodle soup. Very authentic and very delicious. If you're Asian and love your traditional beef noodle soup - get it. If you're non-Asian, everything else on the menu is going to work for you. Don't expect chicken and broccoli. It's not that kind of place. read more

From Ahmad, the bus boy, bartenders Martin & Eddie, to the general manager Dan & Operation Manager Brianna, everyone treats us like FAMILY. It's to the point where we know everyone's name! No matter how we feel or the type of day we have, we know Han will save the day. I just noticed I spoke about the vibe at Han before the food & drinks! I'm a big fan of Han Dynasty. Previously, I reviewed their Upper West Side location, which remains my favorite, but their spot in Downtown Brooklyn's Dekalb Market is wonderful as well. While the market itself was busy on a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant wasn't too crowded, so my friends and I were seated promptly. After some consideration, we decided to share the Dan Dan Noodles, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, and a Scallion Style entree with vegetables and pressed tofu. If you've never been to Han Dynasty before, the plates are intended to be shared in a family-style setting, so it's best to choose a variety of items from the menu. Three dishes for three people may not seem like enough food, but it ended up being plenty for us. The Dan Dan Noodles can be made vegetarian-friendly upon request, and are always a must-order for me. The noodles are on the thicker side, but it allows them to absorb the chili oil better. The Eggplant with Garlic Sauce is another personal favorite. The garlic doesn't overpower the eggplant's sweetness, and the sauce doesn't turn the vegetable into mush. This was my first time trying a Scallion Style entree here, and I wasn't disappointed. The scallion and onion pieces provided a crunchy element to the dish, and the hoisin sauce glazed the pressed tofu nicely. While I don't have any real complaints about my dining experience, I still prefer the atmosphere of the Upper West Side restaurant, so I'll likely continue to head there whenever I'm craving Han Dynasty. read more

I have been to Dekalb Market dozens of times and always passed this place. I didn't think it would be authentic. Wowzers! I was totally wrong. Finally tried lunch here today. We had the dry pot pork and pepper fish. Both dishes were insanely good. We also had the beef tripe in chili oil cold appetizer. The flavors here remind me a lot of one of my favorite restaurants In Flushing - Spicy & Tasty. It's authentic Szechuan, and really well prepared. I like the full bar too! My favorite is the extra spicy dry work tofu, and my husband loves their garlic chicken. Prices are average and the staff are always pleasant. Bathrooms are clean and if you have children, they easily accommodate them sealed off beverage cups, practice chop sticks and milder simpler dishes like noodles etc for them. read more

Located in the basement floor of the Dekalb Market Hall - it has more of an open layout, very dark, with bright flashy lights. Love the Han Dynasty locations in Philadelphia, which were a tad better than this location. This has more of a fast casual feel with less attentive service, although it is a sit-down restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by this Chinese restaurant at Dekalb Market Hall. My mom was craving Chinese, and as this place was right around the corner and highly rated (many say the best Szechuan in NYC!), we headed over. I had the long pepper beef, which was spectacular. I ordered the dish with medium spice which was more than enough without overpowering the flavors. My mom liked it better than her Mongolian beef dish which was good but not a standout dish like mine. I came to Han Dynasty for dinner on a recent Friday night, and although we were not able to make reservations ahead of time, the wait time for a party of two was only 10-15 minutes, which is a perfect amount of time to grab a beer at a nearby stand and walk around gawking at all the Dekalb Market has to offer. What I love about Han Dynasty is that they are able to adjust the spice levels on all of their dishes. Although I claim to like a kick to my food, truth is that in reality that kick is more of a light tap. I was able to choose the spice level for all of my dishes and even sides on a scale from 1 to 10 - I'm embarrassed to admit that my comfort level of heat hangs somewhere around level 4. I could not stop gushing about the eggplant for days. Is it strange that my favorite part of the meal was the added extra side? The flavors are amazing. The crispy scallion pancake was tasty, as was the tangy sauce it came with. I could totally see myself indulging in just the scallion pancake and the eggplant with a glass of red wine at the bar - perfect snack. So here's the thing.. the entree was actually my least favorite part of the meal. I went with Scallion style beef, which came with a side of white rice. It's not that there was anything wrong with this entree, but it did fail to impress or even live up to the less glamorous smaller dishes that were bursting with flavor. It was fine, just fine. It did come out with flames dancing underneath the dish, which scored my table plenty of curious looks. I have not had much luck with Chinese food in this area, and Han Dynasty, although a bit pricier than your average Chinese restaurant, is definitely the best out of about four Chinese restaurants I've tried Downtown Brooklyn. Whenever I get a craving for Chinese food in the future, I will now know exactly where to go. read more

Was in downtown Brooklyn and was craving Szechuan food late on a Sunday night. Ended up here but should've just taken the subway to Chinatown. We got the dumplings in chili oil, spicy tofu fish, and the empress (lychee martini). The dumplings simply existed and were kinda warm and not spicy at all. We asked if the spicy tofu fish would be somewhat like a combination of mapo tofu and sichuan boiled fish (our favorite dishes) and were told that they were kinda like each. We should've just ordered those separately, because the flavors and textures were off as it was not spicy or numbing at all (which is central to each of those dishes) AND the fish seemed to be fried before being put in the sauce. For what it was, the food was generally decent but far off from expectations. The empress (lychee martini) was good as expected from a lychee martini to be honest. First time at Han Dynasty was a 5 star experience! I went with my mom and we were seated promptly. Service was quick and friendly without being overbearing. We shared the dan dan noodles which were very tasty with a peanut tasting sauce that was pretty spicy (warning for wimps). We also had the wontons in chili oil which were INCREDIBLE. Wow, this place is amazing. My boyfriend and I went to Dekalb to get some items for a weekend away and ended up grabbing food here on a whim. We got the scallion pancakes and pork buns as an appetizer and Kung Pao chicken and beef lo mein as entrees. It was all amazing - but my favorite might have been the pork buns. Happy Hour experience: it was okay, I'll do it again one day and hope to re-review. We sat at the lovely bar - I recommend only the pork belly buns from the HH food menu. I had issues with the QR website menu: images not matching what came out, unclear what's HH or not. We ordered off the real menu then- wontons in chili oil = delicious. The staff was very kind and usually very prompt! Mini annoyance: At one point, my friend ordered another Tsingtao, she didn't get it, we asked again, again didn't receive it, so we gave up. They eventually noticed she didn't have a full drink and asked if she wanted another, and then they charged us $11 instead of the HH $8. Oh well. read more

We came in on a rainy day just to walk around the city point mall. Just being there a few times many places were not open as of yet. I knew Trader Joe was down stair along with the food court. At the time my only criticism way that it was hard to find a seat to eat the food down there. This time we were pleased to find some sit down restaurants. Walking into Han Dynasty we where greeted and shown to a table. Staff was friendly and nice. And we were happy that we can have spicy for me and no spice what so ever for my wife. The food was very tasty and we loved the cocktails with and without alcohol. We did not eat a variety of dishes to make a truly accurate assessment. Arrived here with a couple of people on Chinese New Year at 9pm , there was a group of people in front of us that the guy at the entrance, turned away, we didn't think anything of it, figured maybe they changed their minds or didn't have a table for that many yet...the guy at the entrance turns to us & we were told they're closing! THAT'S why the group left..well how about UPDATING YOUR TIME ON YELP AND WEBSITE! What an inconvenience & on Chinese New Year too, any place else would be closed at that time!
