Third Tuesday of the month you can make a reservation for the Tasting Menu. This is my first time going to this location & the tasting menu but I have not been to other locations yet. Staff was great. Very friendly and food was fanatastic. Some dishes better than others. Communal tables which I did not love that at first but my group was so great I would totally meet up with them again. Chinese food place at Dekalb Market Hall. My boyfriend and I weren't sure where to eat so just decided to stop by here. We didn't order much as we still wanted to save some stomach space for some of the food booths outside. We did get the dumplings in chili oil and a dry pot to share. The dry pot came with one bowl of rice. The dumplings were soooo good, the sauce was amazing. We even spilled some of the leftover sauce on the rice. The dry pot was good as well. Cute restaurant in downtown Brooklyn in Dekalb market - right across from Trader Joe's. Lunch time can get busy so it can be a little wait but been able to get a table fairly quickly every time I've been here with friends. Service is good and food is good - prices are bit higher than other places. A lot of the dishes are spicy so make sure you tell them what level of spicy you want. Appetizers: Scallion pancakes, fried dumplings, dumplings in chili oil (spicy), chicken wings Entrees: String beans with minced pork is good, though don't really see the minced pork. Usually the salt and pepper shrimp which I enjoy. Also tried the kung pao chicken and scallion beef. All the dishes are good - they usually give rice to share with the table..different that other places when you order from the lunch menu. Overall good, but a bit pricey. So I had a poor experience from start to finish. When my girlfriend and I arrived the hostess simply just looked at us and pointed at the table to sit down at and didn't walk us over to the table. Once we sat down there was no "hi or hello" or sharing what their name was. They took our drink orders and then our appetizers. The lemonade tasted like water. We had a DIFFERENT server take our food order (so the original server I guess decided not to wait on us anymore? Even though the restaurant didn't have too many people in it at all). Our food came pretty fast out of the kitchen so that was great. My girlfriend had the Braised beef soup, it was a solid 7/10. I had the Lo-Mein and it was okay a solid 6/10. BUT during the ENTIRE time we were eating no one came and checked in on us to see how the food was or if we needed anything. The initial waitress we had along with the waitress that took our order were just standing near the POS system near the kitchen and were just looking as we ate. The energy and vibe was off from the time we got to the door. We didn't feel welcomed , more if we were just there and they were going to serve us the food so we can eat and leave. The only time when we were checked on was when it was time for the check. The waitress stood over my girlfriend as she was paying on the mobile POS card reader and watched as she was giving the tip as well. (No it wasn't a good tip, as the service was horrible and extremely un-inviting). Han Dynasty has been my go to for Sichuan since I first discovered it in West Philly many years ago, so I was thrilled when they started opening locations in NYC. I have eaten at the Downtown Brooklyn and Long Island City restaurants, and I have ordered takeout many times (I always order the same things). I am a vegetarian so I appreciate that they will prepare dishes that traditionally include pork, meat-free. I visited the Downtown Brooklyn location recently and ordered string beans without pork to go. The "no pork" instruction was printed on the receipt, but when I opened the container at home, the beans had pork in them. I immediately called the restaurant to report the mistake, but it was impossible to connect to an actual person at the number listed on their site, nor could I leave a message, so I resorted to emailing them, but no one ever responded. I don't generally review restaurants, but apparently Han Dynasty doesn't have any other mechanism for customers to provide feedback. Thanks to staff Jack, Jose and Brianna for taking care of all the details and making sure that everyone got everything they needed. All the guests loved the food. This is our go to Szechuan place in nyc. There are now multiple locations, which makes the lines not as bad. The one at the Dekalb food hall has an especially convenient takeout window. While I do love this place, they are not always consistent in their cooking, sometimes things taste different or not as spicy or just not great. One time the dan dan noodles we ordered (at the east village location) were so dry we only ate a few bites which is disappointing since this is one of their most popular dishes; we haven't been back to that location since. Despite the mishaps, I still come back because of some of my favorites, particularly the spicy tofu fish. This soup has a level (10) spice, but it is so good that some of my friends who don't normally do spicy foods still eat it. The fish is always cooked well and the soft tofu melts in your mouth. It's also helpful that you get free rice refills to soak up all the spicy soup. The wontons in chili oil (6) are also a favorite - the sweet and slightly spicy sauce is amazing. One of the traits of growing up as a city boy was that you grew up with memories of things from back in the days, which makes you feel uncomfortable because it: A) Dates you B) Makes you feel old and helpless. Take for example the area around Junior's cheesecake, which some today call City Point, and others like me remember as Albee Square - the Albee square/Fulton mall pedestrian zone back in the 90s were a retail area catering to the middle class African Americans - you can buy gold chains, AirMax 97s, mix tapes, Shea butter and incense, then pick up some hot dogs at the Papaya joint on Hoyt before the subway ride home from Lawrence, DeKalb or Jay. Me? I used to run around the Albee square mall with my buddy Leon looking for knock-off Dragonball Z VHS tapes and the latest bootleg Wu-Tang CDs. It was grimy with a sense of faded splendor, and just like the twin towers, Chinatown sweatshop sponge cakes, or the after-school Elios bread pizza, it was part of my upbringing. Then the state decided to gentrify the area in the mid-2000s and gave developers some cushy deals, then seemingly overnight the Conways and the Dr. Jays vanished, and the big box stores like H&M and TJMaxx moved in. All the old buildings were knocked down and the place transitioned into yet another boring area with luxury condos and mixed use five-and-ones. The food hall opened with all of the pompousness of a hipster trying to pose authenticity. Yeah, quite a food hall. There used to be Nigerian restaurants, Jamaican Patty shops and "soul food" (fried whiting / slaw / Mac and cheese) joints on Fulton and the side streets that were priced out of the area. And what was it replaced with? Sorta Hawaiian food (did the hipsters sneer when you say it's a poke joint?), more bubble tea and ramen places than you'll ever need, Kraft beer joints, Katz's deli (not the same as the LES but they are happy to charge you the same price tag), Berlin doner (eeeh) and a single Jerk chicken stand (we can all use a token). Then there's Trader Joe's (aka Aldi North but with a Polynesian vibe). What else do we have? Ample hills? Yeah, they are Brooklyn - they were so Brooklyn they overspent on a Red Hook loft and went bankrupt even with Disney and Oprah support. And then there's Han Dynasty, which is a Philadelphia based Szechuan joint. Should I commence shitting on them too? No - they are actually a solid restaurant doing the lord's work shitting on hipsters and dotcom bros. They don't pretend to be universally Chinese (so no half ass soup dumplings here) nor does it cater to your Americanized Chinese nonsense, so fuck right off General Tso - they are a Szechuan joint and they serve things that hurt. Their cold sesame and Dan-Dans are as good as the ones on the Handwritten Chinese menus in Sunset Park, and their firecracker stir fries? Even better - searingly hot and they don't hold back for the boys from Indiana. You live upstairs because you got a 6 digit job from Google? Fuck you, this isn't Brownstreak Dragon Asian fusion from West Bumblefuck, you are gonna get your tastebuds pushed in and you'll like it. Man up or your girl will think you are a wuss because you can't handle some dried red peppers. You know what else you are gonna like? The value. Oh, the dot com job lets you drop money like toilet paper? Guess what? Instead of spending 15 dollars on a bowl of ramen noodle outside, for 21 dollars you are getting a hot steaming pile of food that's good for 2 meals for 2. Nothing says OH SHIT like being pelted with a wet load of napalm infused food that you'll want to doggybag for the next day. And then discovering the effects of spicy peppers upon bowel movements the next day. The Pacific Ring of Fire is both a geological phenomenon and a medical issue caused by overindulgence upon spicy Szechuan foods. It's our second time to a Han Dynasty (the first was in EV). This location feels a little airier and less stuffy than the EV one. We ordered classics: the Dan Dan noodle and the dry pot with lamb. By the end of it, our feeling is that Han Dynasty is more of a safe option, where you cannot go wrong. The dry pot and Dan Dan noodles were both very tasty, but we have had better dry pot (Mala Project) and better Dan Dan noodles (Best Szechuan). However, the dry pot here is better than Best Szechuan's. The noodles are a bit thicker than what I have come to expect for Dan Dan Noodles, and make sure to stir it all well before concluding it is too dry. The dry pot here was less spicy than the one at Mala Project; flavorful nonetheless, and importantly, much cheaper overall. All in all, come here for some very solid Szechuan dishes. read more

Omg i was in NY for Spring break with my family and decided to ask for some recommendations to our friends that leave in the area of Brooklyn. We stayed a 5 min walking from this little mall and we're glad to visit, they have a little food court with a couple good options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our second night we came to Han dynasty and order a couple plates to try and WE LOVE IT we ate here a least 3 times the week we stayed in NY. So good, they have the best pork dumplings steam in chilli oil ever I can't explain how delicious and tasty is this plate, we order this plate every night we eat here is amazing, we also try the noodles, fry rice and double chicken in a hot pot spicy but excelente too. We like every plate here and they close late so you can order actually to take out late nights. The service was super nice and good and the restaurant is small but pretty, the location is perfect and they serve hot tea as a complementary to your food and I feel like that is super cool. Was walking around Dekalb Market and while lots of stands were closing. Han dynasty was open so stopped by for a quicker meal. I really don't remember the vibe of the place but it's more of a restaurant/chain and less of a hole in the wall type of spot (which makes sense, multiple other locations around NYC). I didn't dine in so this review is strictly for delivery. I thought I'd try this location's food since I've eaten at the Manhattan location and have enjoyed it in the past. I ordered the wonton soup, string beans, kung pao chicken, and spicy crunchy cucumbers. The chicken and string beans were both supposed to come with white rice but we only received one container that was only halfway full of dried out rice. It not only felt hard and stale but tasted stale as well. It was disappointing not to have rice with our meal. The wonton soup was ok. The broth was weak and had a very weird, almost sour taste, and it lacked salt. It tasted like dishwater. I tried to save it with some soy sauce but it didn't help much. They did not include the chili oil I paid extra for. The wontons themselves were actually pretty good, though so I just removed them and ate them separately. The string beans tasted ok--they were the only thing in the order that I somewhat liked, however they were extremely overcooked and wrinkled up. I ate them anyway because they were $20. This was the only dish that tasted like it had salt, maybe a little too much, but it was still better than none. The cucumbers were saccharine sweet, not spicy as advertised, and has no flavor besides overwhelming sweetness and garlic. They sat in a pool of flavorless chili oil. They were also advertised as crunchy but the texture was very soft and off putting. They had no fresh crunch at all. They were made days ago, and that was evident. Smashed cucumbers with chili and garlic is something I frequently make for my staff and at home, and I've eaten a LOT of leftovers lol. The dish also contained little to no salt. Very weird. Very not good. Now on to the kung pao... the fucking kung pao! The taste itself was ok, but we ordered the dish "mild" and it arrived in a small to go container that's contained literally 70 percent dried hot chili peppers, 20 percent green bell pepper chunks and 10 percent tiny chicken thigh pieces. There was almost no protein in this and it was $23. Unfortunately, due to the fact that it was mostly dried chilis, this dish was mouth AND face numbingly hot to the point we couldn't eat it. I love spice and frequent Indian and Thai restaurants, we even pickle our own hot chilis at home, but this was insane. I am not exaggerating when I say my entire lower face was numb from just two bites! It doesn't really matter, since we physically could not consume it, but this dish also very badly needed salt. It's really a shame because it cost a total of $100 for these 4 dishes and two were inedible, and the rest were just bad. That, and they shorted us 1.5 containers of rice. Well, if you count the hard, stale half pint of rice they included. Anyway, the dine-in reviews seem pretty good but I'm not feeling great after that kind of splurge and receiving what I got so I would say absolutely 100 percent avoid for takeout unless you want to feel disappointed. read more

His dish seemed manageable with maybe some additional rice, and it did come with mushrooms, taro in his dry pot with a side of rice. Our server Dan was disrespectful and distracted the entire night. My partner and I came here last night to grab some dinner before going into TJs to shop, I had been here once before a few years back and recall the food being good. Our server Dan seemed to be in an upset mood the entire time. He was distracted and gave a rude attitude to us throughout the evening. We ordered an app and requested that the chili oil was on the side since the menu provided it as an option. The fries came out with the chili all over them. Dan didn't check on us a single time and had to be waved down each time. He had my partner and I looking for him the majority of the time. Dan also forgot to put in an entrée, and when we asked for the check we requested the forgotten entree was removed, he didn't acknowledge or apologize for the fact that it never came. When he brought the check he just set it down and ran to his next task. We had to flag down another server to check us out. This is by far the worst service I've received. The fried chicken wings were a bit disappointing because they were kind of hard to bite into as the skin/batter was very ​tough but the flavoring of the chicken wasn't too bad. The pork dumplings that I got weren't very spectacular either since it tasted a little bland with the chili oil not even able to save it. The mapo tofu though was REALLY spicy and I felt like it was a really good amount of spice as all mapo tofus should be. It was so good I felt myself sweating a bit while eating but the meat in the dish was really missing in the dish. While eating it, it didn't feel like there was any minced pork in there? My friend and I Sat at the bar ... we ordered the house wines and and I decided to order their steamed Veggie dumplings. They come out in like 2-3 minutes from the kitchen , which is fast for this order . The runner present it to us at the bar. We checked out the dumplings and the look a little raw / Not cooked all the way. We had two to taste and there were definitely raw just from the outside. My friend said the quantity used to be good here but not anymore. A couple next to us had the fried veggie dumplings, and they said everything the had was great but the dumplings too! . We also ordered the scallion pancakes which was a BIT better. There dipping sauce is good . But eh , I had better elsewhere. The bartender and service is really good here . Mite come back for just drinks . I seen groups come here for dinner which mite be there top seller . But definitely pass on there happy hour dumplings at least on my account . But Just drinks only which start at $6 which isn't so Bad . read more

This is probably my favorite chinese food restaurant every 3rd or 4th and sometimes 8th time I order. I wish it were every time, but the inconsistency of how the same dish is prepared leaves you wondering which one you are going to get. I don't know if it is different chefs, different ingredients, or different prior evening drinking habits, but if you order a dish 7 days out of the week, you are going to get 8 different tasting dishes. Sometimes I think of telling the restaurant, but what if they listen and I never get the most amazing tasting dish again and it is just the same meh dish that has dropped a star off my review? read more

You cannot go wrong with anything from this menu but some faves are the Dan Dan noodles, cucumber salad and cumin fries.

Han Dynasty is one of those places where it is better to take out then order in. The servers just do not listen to what you order and bring out whatever they think you asked for. The probability that someone at your table will not get their food at all it high as well. Happened to us multiple times. Overall if the order is right the food is very good. Be careful if you are not a spicy person make sure you tell them mild because their dishes do pack on the heat. Will I eat there again, yes but would prefer to do take out as they pay attention to your order and get it right. read more
