    Nagoya Don

I've been to Hanadon multiple times - including their downtown location and they are quite consistent in terms of food and service. We're quickly greeted and seated at our table. They gave us some tea to start. We tried their aburi don and Nagoya don. These also come with miso soup which was a nice start. The Nagoya don had chopped toro and seared salmon which was pretty tasty and fresh. Will be back!

    Green dragon set $19

Had the green dragon roll set that comes with 4 pieces of the namesake, 8 pieces California roll, and 8 pieces of the spicy salmon. The deals at this location are different from downtown, and well priced. I didn't have the bowls here but personally like the bowls at the downtown location more than the rolls at the fairview location. Taste reminded me of rolls you can get to go. The space is clean and spacious, service friendly.

Tried the Guy Don combo that came with a poached egg, salad, California rolls, miso soup and of course the beef on rice. All of it was pretty good and I left feeling full. The service was good as well. Conveniently located at Fairview Mall. Worth checking out!

I went to Hana Don on Wednesday and they have 50% on appetiser during Monday to Thursday! The atmosphere is like a mall restaurant but very clean and spacious! The service overall was okay, very basic. I ordered the teriyaki (50% off - $4), which is a really good deal but I think it is 2.5/5 , as too much flour added. For the Unagi don & tempura don, I will give 3/5, they were okay, but I think it is a bit overpriced and nothing special on the taste.

Had lunch at Hana Don in Fairview Mall with family. I went for the Toyosu Don, which came with sweet shrimp, salmon, white fish, scallop, and ikura on top of their premium sushi rice. The seafood was nicely arranged, and the rice itself was well done with that slightly warm and seasoned touch that works perfectly with the toppings. In hindsight, I should've gone with the large. But that's just me, I eat a lot. I think most people would be satisfied with the regular portion. The overall quality was definitely on the good side, though a part of me felt it could have been just a notch better. Still, no complaints really. The space itself is well put together. Not overly fancy but thoughtfully laid out. It felt comfortable and clean, and worked well for a relaxed family meal. Service was okay. Nothing to really complain about, but it wasn't the kind of attentive service you'd hope for when you're paying a premium for simple, clean food like this. Also, just a small note, it would've been nice if there was an alternative to miso soup. I know that kind of dietary restriction isn't super common, but still, offering something small would've been a good touch. All in all, happy we came by. It's a solid spot in the mall, and I'd definitely be down to come back and try another bowl next time. Probably going large though.

I can't make decision on what's my favourite among all sashimi, so this Tsukiji Don is just perfect for me! Salmon, scallop, yellowtail are some of my favourites! I ordered during lunch time, where they've combo, including a miso soup!

Their menu changed since the last time I came, but overall their donburi remains the same. The food remained consistent, but I dropped to 3 stars because of the service. It was very slow and inconsistent. We waited for a waiter to take our order for 20 minutes. After they took our order, both of our dishes did not arrive at the same time, and we couldn't enjoy our meals together. It was very awkward when one of us is eating while the other is waiting. By the time my brother finished his meal, my meal came. I noticed this similar behaviour the last time I came when it took the waiters a long time to show up. We would have to flag them to get their attention. I would still come back, but their service needs to be changed for things to be consistent and run smoothly instead of making the customers wait.

Came here with a friend just before a musical at the Ed Mirvish theatre. I had been a fan of neighbouring You Don Ya's beef bowl and wanted to try Hana Don's to compare. Portion was good with lots of rice, a ring of thinly slice sou vide beef and an onsen egg. Unfortunately the best thing was the egg. The beef flavour was ok but lacked deep meat flavour and had a very odd texture to it - almost crumbly. My friend had the Hokkaido Don, which she found had less uni than advertised but she enjoyed the overall bowl. Therefore it seems raw food here is better than cooked food. A lot of the cooked food was also unavailable - all the chicken options. The interior is tightly spaced with small tables, but seating is comfortable. Staff were good. Pay with cash to get a 5% discount!

We came back to this spot in Fairview Mall. Today was not such a great experience. A couple of things - they have changed the menu and they removed some things that were really quite good on it, including what used to be a shrimp appetizer in a spicy sauce. It's no longer on the menu. They do have a much broader option of choices for appetizers. So I suppose that's good - it was just a shame to see that one item that we like so much gone. The other thing was that the waitress made a terrible mistake with our order. She got the edamame appetizer, OK, and then we ordered two Tonkatsu but only brought one to the table. I mean ... seriously!!??? She came to the table with 1 tray and we are like where is the other? She gave us a somewhat blank look and then I said we ordered 2. Ie we each wanted this. It seemed to take a bit to get through to her what the mistake was; finally she got it, and then leisurely walked back to punch in the correction. I insisted my husband take it and so he ate his but basically he was done his meal before our mine even came to the table. The other part that was incredibly disappointing was that the restaurant didn't offer any kind of adjustment for the error, especially since we took the mistake without making a big fuss. I mean offer the edamame for free or something. The food is good but candidly, I can't say if we'll go back. Lots of places you can go where it's not so hard to make yourself understood and to get what you order. And I mean how many places would you go where you both don't order something?

If you're craving some delicious Japanese Don, then you should come and give it a try. They have a lot of choices for you to pick. The service here is good when you need assistance it doesn't take them long to get help. The atmosphere is perfect as it is not loud and you can have decent conversations with friends and family.

All the rice bowls are presented beautifully and the food all look fresh and delicious. Place is clean and pretty spacious as well. Service wise, we had a very friendly and attentive server who also accommodated us staying much longer to chitchat. They also made space for us for a baby stroller as well. Food wise, I did enjoy the grilled squid and my sous-vide beef don. The beef was melt in the mouth soft, my only complain was that the sauce topping was cold and hence a bit too thick.

It's great to revisit here. This time we have the following recommendations: *B06* Trio Toro Don *B10* Premium Bara Don *B02* Large Premium Hana Don Among all three the best of course was the Trio Toro Don! It came with fatty O-toro tuna + regular toro + chopped tuna & caviar. Nicely presented. Very satisfying. Good service. Recommended!

Finally got to try Hana Don myself after hearing mixed reviews from everyone. I got the Deluxe Bara Don and my boyfriend got the Gyudon. The Deluxe Bara Don was fresh and delicious I was stuffed after finishing it! The only thing I wish was that there could be a little bit more uni. I didn't try the Gyudon but my boyfriend enjoyed it. There was a good amount of beef and rice, the dish was piping hot when it came out and he said it was very filling. The servers there were very nice and attentive. They always came and refilled our waters and took our empty plates away. Will definitely come back to try their other bowls !

It's $6.95 for all of their large, medium & small items which typically range $1-2 more on their standard menu. The value here is the atmosphere and relatively attentive and friendly service. The restaurant interior is still clean and impressive at this polished establishment, this time in celebration of Chinese New Year. Tea arrived shortly thereafter and I totally forgot they charged $3pp which is a bit excessive for 4 people. But the siu mai and har gow dumplings here are worth it, as both are huge and plump loaded with shrimp filling. We also had their pear-shaped deep-fried truffle berry buns & HK-style eel with cheese buns, unique to this dim sum spot. This time we added the beef rice rolls, egg tarts and taro puff dumplings as well to round out a typical dim sum meal. All-in-all we were filled very quickly for four people, especially as we ordered the congee with spare ribs, dried fish & peanuts. Skip it or hit it? If you can catch the early bird, this dim sum meal is a good new pick when hosting friends and guests in town.

Street Grill's interior and decor lends to it's theming as an old Asian alley where you get snack food from street vendors. I appreciated that the wall columns and dividers were intentionally chipped at uneven spots to fit that theme. You get a lot of variety with the available food options. They have beef, pork, lamb, chicken, seafood, and grilled veggies. The drinks also have their own separate menu with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. In our 1st batch of orders, we had the Garlic Eggplant and Ham & Cilantro Bean Curd Rolls for starters. Both are good and safe recommendations for everyone. For the rest of the food, we had Beef Tenderloin, Lamb Brisket, and Pork Belly. All were seasoned and spiced just right. I particularly enjoyed having the Beef Tenderloin and Lamb Brisket. For our 2nd batch of orders we had a Shareable (Shrimps, Sea Jellyfish, Cucumber, Preserved Eggs, and Peanuts w/ thick sweet vinaigrette) order which we were not able to finish and had to take home. That mixed veggie shareable was good to cleanse the palate, but was a little too sour to finish all in one seating. The rest of the order we had the Grilled Steamed Bun and then we tried to go more exotic by ordering Spicy Duck Tongue and Jumbo Bullfrog. I loved the Grilled Steamed Bun. It was seasoned right and toasted to perfection. The Jumbo Bullfrog had just enough meat on it to pick out and eat. The Duck Tongue might not be for everyone. There is not enough of the meaty, fleshy middle layer to eat, and then the rest of it is the 2 wide, bony protruding structures. We were seated at a good spot by the upper level overlooking the rest of the dining area. There was a server standing just behind us ready for requests and taking our orders. The overall dining experience is great, but can be a little pricey. Communication might sometimes be a small issue. Some servers default to speaking in Chinese and there are times where it can be tricky asking them to identify what was the food they just brought out.

The three dishes were very filling for two people and felt like great value overall. The nasi goreng had a lovely wok hei and nicely separated grains of rice with a slightly firm texture, which I really liked. The seasoning leaned a little sweeter and tangier than I expected, almost slightly Thai-inspired, but the small side of shrimp paste added a welcome layer of heat and depth. The mie Jawa was a bit bolder in flavor than the fried rice and very satisfying at first bite. It did get a little rich after a while, but the pickled cucumbers on the side balanced it out well. The satay was the surprise standout for me. I was worried it might be dry, but the meat was tender, lightly juicy, and grilled just right. The peanut sauce was especially good: smooth, well-balanced, and full of flavor without being too heavy. Service was also very solid. Even though I was only picking up takeout, the staff were friendly, efficient, and the whole process was smooth. The space itself looked clean, comfortable, and welcoming, with a relaxed ambiance that made me think it would be a pleasant place to dine in as well. Diners tuck these soft meat slices into lettuce, Napa cabbage, and turnip with a smear of the savoury bean sauce for a protein packed bite. Our table was split about the haemui pa jeon ($28.99). The size of a medium pizza, it's made for a group. Personally, I found it way too thick and didn't contain enough ingredients to balance out the doughiness of the Korean style pancake. Conversely, my relatives preferred the heft as it contrasted the crispy exterior and soft interior. I guess it depends if you're a thin versus pan crust type of pizza lover. I'm firmly in the Neapolitan camp. I thoroughly enjoyed the crust that develops on the bottom of yachae dolsot bibimbap ($18.99). And the hot stone rice bowl contained a good combination of ingredients to ensure there was plenty of vegetables and beef to go around. De Chou's LA kalbi ($34.99) was rather neutral with very little sauce, so you mostly taste the beef. (3/5) De Chou Korean Restaurant - Lunch Review…read more We stopped by De Chou Korean Restaurant for lunch today since we happened to be nearby. The sign said it opens at 11:30 a.m., and true to their word, the doors opened exactly on time. The restaurant itself is quite large and impressively clean -- that was my first good impression. We originally went in because of the sign outside advertising Korean ginseng chicken soup, but when we asked the server, he told us it's no longer on the menu. A bit disappointing, especially since my wife wasn't feeling well and I thought that soup would've been perfect for her. We ordered two Bulgogi Dolsot Bibimbaps ($21.99 each). The portion was decent, but the flavor was a bit bland and not salty enough for our taste -- overall I'd give it a 6/10. We also tried the Japchae ($13.99). Unfortunately, it was too greasy, a bit slimy, and overcooked -- about a 4/10 for me. They served five small side dishes, which were just average (5/10), and a small cup of noodle soup that was lukewarm and slightly sweet -- not to my liking, as I prefer savory over sweet in Korean food. The total came to $65.51 before tip, and we left a standard 15%. To be fair, by the time we finished lunch, there were quite a few tables filled, so maybe other dishes are better. But based on what we ordered today, the food didn't live up to the price. Would I go again? Probably not.
