I can't say enough positive remarks about Hana after taking my husband here for his birthday. Having never been, the staff was thoughtful in guiding us through sake and food suggestions. We went on a Tuesday night and perhaps a much slower evening but the level of attention we received from Lynn (owner/chef) was unparalleled. We learned about sake, ordered specials and had an amazing evening of conversation. It is clear this locally owned restaurant takes quality seriously, with meticulous plating and tons of fresh seafood items. The focus is certainly more on sushi/ raw fish items but there are noodles, tempura and entrees as well. We will certainly be back!

Cozy Japanese restaurant with the friendliest service. This place is such a gem! The staff gave us recommendations, were quick to clear our plates, and so friendly to talk to! The environment feels low-key and casual but still had some nice Japanese details in their decor. We ordered sushi, sashimi, agadashi tofu, and nabe soup. Everything was so satisfying. I feel like the fish was one of the higher quality in the area. We will definitely come back!

We had Hana cater our annual Spring party, and as expected, the food was outstanding. Even guests who don't usually care for sushi found themselves enjoying everything. Thank you, Lynn and Lori!

Food and service is always exceptional at Hana! The Shio ramen is usually my go to and hits the spot every time, especially during the colder months.

Hana Japanese is an absolute must try! I would suggest making a reservation, this spot fills up quickly. Lynn gave us the VIP treatment and we enjoyed every moment! The service was next level. They have a variety of Japanese whisky and spirits that put most places to shame. Lots of authentic imports from Japan like hitachino beers. The sushi was off the charts fresh!

For the past 13-ish years, my Yelp buddy Monica O. and I have had the joy (and occasional challenge) of co-hosting the International Supper Club Unofficial Yelp Event (ISCUYE). In all that time, we've only returned to a handful of restaurants--maybe 3 to 5--because, you know, the world is big, and our stomachs are only so large. Hana happens to be one of those special few. I can't talk about Hana without tipping my hat to Mike O. (check out his reviews too!), who first introduced ISCUYE to this gem. The first time we visited, Hana was half the size, didn't have a liquor license, and thanks to Mike, I spent more money than I ever have at an ISCUYE event--because he had us ordering half the menu. No regrets. Fast forward to last fall... our second visit. I walk in and see someone who looks like Mike O. But I brush it off, assuming my brain is just inserting him into the scene for nostalgia's sake. (He lives on the East coast now).... Turns out, nope--I was looking at Mike O. himself, sitting right in our ISC spot like it was meant to be. What a reunion! That night, we also met the owner (Lori?), who helped prepare our meal. Since then, I've been back a couple of times, and she still remembers me and my kiddo. I love a place where everybody knows your name--and they're always glad you came! CHEERS! Central Phoenix is a sushi lover's playground, with at least three top-tier spots that deliver on quality and creativity. But Hana? Hana sits comfortably at the top of my list. Check out my pics, and you'll see why this place earns every one of its five stars. Return Factor: 100%

Absolutely! Hana is our favorite place in town for sushi ! It offers the freshest sashimi & other seafood & consistently delivers the highest quality of sushi. The owners and staff are super friendly and knowledgeable and provide excellent service, as always. Whenever I dine here, its setting often reminds me of many great memories of visiting Japan and its specialties & authenticity of this restaurant offering. Kudos ! Hopefully other Yelpers will also find this place as incredible as I always do.

Enjoyed this authentic Japanese restaurant on a whim! The service was so great and everyone extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant is casual and can be a good spot for a casual date night, meal in, or friend catch up. The food was really good and great quality! The Hana Bento Box blew away my expectations - the sashimi melted in your mouth and tasted fresh. The ramen was also good and noodles had a nice chew and broth had good umami flavor. The Sea Bass Sakamushi was good, but only came with 5 pieces (not advertised on menu about pieces) for $25 - so pricey for the quantity.

I got dinner with a couple friends at Hana on Sunday, and it was a first rate experience. The service was exceptional, and what motivated me to write this review. The food was solid: the vegetable tempura & curry udon were personal highlights for me. I also really appreciated that the dining room here is more intimate and quiet, allowing our group to quickly recenter in between stops on our bar hopping adventure. The restaurant was recommended by a Phoenix native we met earlier that evening, and he did not lead us astray!

This is our go to sushi neighborhood spot. Always pleasant service. Consistent quality of food. And variety of offerings. My favorite is the bento box (must be shared!) and the steak with scallops were excellent.

We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. We truly enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning. Highly recommended for a quality sushi experience!

I was dining solo and had no trouble finding a seat since there's plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. That said, I was surprised by how quickly the place started filling up after opening, which is always a good sign. One of the first things I noticed was the large sushi bar and being able to watch the sushi chefs at work. There were five of them, which I took as a sure sign this place gets busy. I ordered the spider roll, salmon avocado roll, and steamed edamame. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and exactly what I was hoping for. One unique thing about Kodo is their rice blend. They use a combination of black and white rice, which gives the sushi a distinctive purple color. It's not something you see every day, and it definitely makes their sushi stand out. I also have a food allergy, and the staff handled it carefully and without any issues. They offer fountain drinks, which I always prefer. And I liked their plastic to-go container. It kept my leftovers from getting soggy by next day. Easy five stars.

The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. Overall, I really enjoyed it, although the eel was probably my least favorite of the flight just personal preference. The crispy tuna rice was easily the star of the meal! Crispy, flavorful, and the textures worked so well together. I would 100% order that again. The ramen, however, was just okay for me. It wasn't bad or inedible, but the broth was lacking that rich, deep flavor I look for in a good bowl of ramen. A little more depth and seasoning would really take it to the next level. Never got my water refilled, had to flag them down to put in more food, that sorta thing. The vibes- thought the bar was pretty lit and is prob pretty fun during HH. The food- overpriced for what you get and portion size while the fish and flavors being a smidge above average. I left still hungry after getting the gold omakase, bad and buri roll, and hamachi crudo. The hamachi was the best part of the meal but I'd still expect at least 5 pieces for the price. Anyways, this spot will hit the spot if you have a sushi craving. I can't vouch for the drinks but I assume it more than checks the box in that regard judging by the menu, selection, and vibe.
