Right across from Disneyland, our night ended with an up close view of the Disneyland fireworks. Everything tasted amazing. We ordered the Nori and Cheese Fries, Tofu Seafood Salad, 2 Double Shrimp Tempura Rolls, Rainbow Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll. My mouth is watering from writing this review... The rolls were large, flavorful, and had good amounts of fish. High quality fish here. My personal favorites were the salmon and tuna rolls. The salmon was rich and fatty. The spicy tuna had a mild kick of spice, making it enjoyable for almost any spice tolerance. I noticed the wasabi and soy sauce were milder than what I'm used to. A photographer comes by each table to take pictures. They offer 4 framed photos for purchase and give you 1 free printed photo with a QR code to purchase the digital copies. We decided not to purchase any of the photos. Seating options include sushi bar/counter seating and tables. Tables are separated by bamboo dividers, providing a more private dining experience. This restaurant was moderately busy during dinner on a Friday night. Service was timely and staff were attentive. Our waters were regularly refilled and they checked on our table throughout our meal. My husband took me to Hanagi for my birthday because we thought it was going to be a more upscale dining experience. It ended up being much more casual than we expected, with an atmosphere that felt like stepping into a restaurant from the '90s inside an older hotel. Not necessarily a bad thing--just different from what we had in mind for a birthday dinner. That said, the food was excellent and definitely the reason we'd come back. I also really enjoyed their selection of Japanese-inspired beers, which paired perfectly with the meal and were a fun addition to the experience. We started with the spicy edamame, which was good, though not a showstopper. The Chef's 10-piece nigiri was the highlight of the meal. Every piece was fresh and delicious, but the yellowtail and unagi were absolute standouts. We also ordered the spicy salmon roll, which was really good, and the double shrimp tempura roll, which was exactly what you want from a tempura roll--you really can't go wrong with it. Our server was very kind and friendly, but service wasn't especially attentive. It seemed like they may have been understaffed, so there were longer waits between check-ins than we would have liked. This place is soo overrated! They don't have salmon skin hand rolls so I ordered the salmon hand roll. It was cut salmon on a bed of rice. No vegetables, plain. The salmon was tough. We ordered the scallop roll. I think it was a day old. The only the seaweed was like a rubber band. You couldn't bite it. It completely fell apart. The Uni was dark brown and slimy. Amazing sushi, also had two bottles of sake and the server and sushi chefs walk you through what everything is and while it might be a bit intimidating for sushi newcomers, I guarantee you it'll be one of the best meals you'll have. They serve you each nigiri sushi piece by piece at your pace and you can't beat having a front row seat to chefs making food art. $80 omakase for 12 pieces - super worth it. Second time here and I am confirming a five star dining experience. Hanagi is inside the Majestic Hotel, near Disney, with parking validation. Don't let the Magic kingdom stuff distract you - the restaurant is a diamond in the rough. Each table is surrounded by hanging tatami mats for more privacy and the tables are large and spacious. The two main options are hot pot and traditional Japanese dining (which we did). Spicy garlic edamame Sautéed edamame with chili pepper, fried garlic, sesame seeds, black pepper. Great choice for a starter - savory and slightly spicy. Tuna Tataki Seared tuna with pico de gallo, sesame seeds, green shiso, green onion, spicy mayo, and Ponzu jelly. Simply an amazing must have every time dish. The finish lasts forever. Spicy tuna roll Chopped spicy tuna, avocado, topped with Serrano mayo. Tuna was slightly thin, but overall nicely rolled and flavorful. Vegetable Roll Avocado, asparagus, cucumber, lettuce, red bell pepper. Kind of a mishmash of weeds. Not super recommended. Hanagi Signature Roll Bluefin, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, Yama-gobo, Tobiko, edible gold, leaf, and truffle Ponzo sauce. An impressive array of unique flavors attempting to come together and just coming up short. Super delicious still. Hamachi sashimi The cuts are sent from heaven - confirmed on the palate. I feel like I've discovered a hidden sushi gem in Anaheim. My friend and I were heading to a show at the hotel and decided to stop in for dinner. We ordered chirashi bowls and also tried a few pieces of sushi on the side and we're so glad we did. The quality immediately reminded us of the sushi we had in Japan. One of the best places for great sushi dinner at a great value in OC! Located in the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel, this restaurant had a beautiful interior that had table setups that creates great atmosphere and privacy so you can eat in peace with your group! I came with a couple of friends that were new to eating a set sushi menu and I could not ask for a greater experience. The staff and our waiter were very friendly and helpful, providing good recommendations and explanations of the menu. I ordered for me and my friends each a Chef's Nigiri (8 pieces of sushi and 4 piece California Roll) and added piece of Otoro. The Chef's Nigiri 8 piece was $38 which is an AMAZING value for what we got. Each nigiri piece came with the generously-sized piece of fish and tasted very fresh. My friends who were new to this style of nigiri set enjoyed every piece, and so did I! My favorite pieces of the meal were the Chutoro and the Otoro! The service was excellent and very perceptive. They waited to serve us when we were all back at the table after bathroom breaks so no one was waiting. They also validated parking tickets received when entering the hotel parking. Near "the happiest place on Earth", Located in the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel past a coat of arms and an arcade sits this wonderful little restaurant called Hanagi! Yes, the restaurant is inside the hotel where there is a paid parking lot, but don't worry, the parking can get validated with your lunch/dinner. The hotels decor is eclectic, but the restaurant itself is very nice with wood accents and spacious design. We reserved (even though it wasn't necessary when we arrived on a weekend night) a table for us and our friends and were met by very enthusiastic staff, who were helpful in validating our parking. Food: no Shabu tonight, it was all about the sushi and the raw fish. Though the Hanagi roll was the star for my table, my personal fav was the A5 wagyu. Also please treat yourself? From start to finish, our evening was flawless. We found this gem through OpenTable (thank you, OpenTable!), where I instantly booked a reservation. The moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by a kind and welcoming host who quickly showed us to our table. Just two minutes later, our drinks arrived, followed by our food only five minutes after that -- the service was impressively fast and organized. I started with a Sapporo on draft, followed by another Japanese beer (I wish I remembered the name -- it was incredible). But the real highlight of the night was learning how to properly enjoy traditional sake. I never realized there was such a beautiful ritual behind it -- sipping it slowly, appreciating the depth of flavor. It was a fantastic experience. Now the food... absolutely exceptional. The sushi, rolls, nigiri, and gunkan were beyond delicious -- everything was fresh, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented. This is top-tier Japanese cuisine. From the moment you walk into the restaurant till you leave, you are treated very well. The service is excellent, the sushi is so fresh, and the ambience is very nicely, traditional Japanese style. When you walk in, you are immediately greeted by hosts as well as the sushi chefs behind the counter. The individual tables are separated by the grass screens, to give you a more private feeling. The service is impeccable. Our server, German, was perfect, no rush, very helpful suggestions, and very responsive. We could not have asked for more from him. We were only at the hotel for four nights, and ended up having dinner here twice, and having German both nights as our server, first time by chance, second time by our request! The first night that we ate there, we had the seared tuna appetizer, yellowtail sushi, and a rainbow roll and another roll. The yellowtail sushi was the freshest I've had in a very, very long time, and is what brought us back for a second dinner. The seared tuna appetizer was good, I would recommend it to those wanting a fun new way of serving tuna. We were not impressed by the special rolls, a little too creamy/mayo for me. The second time, we just ordered sushi, and we're just as impressed by the freshness, salmon, yellowtail, and Unagi. Highly recommend going here for the sushi. I will start with the highlights because they are short. I liked the semi private tables, but the place itself was pretty loud even not at full capacity. Parking is free just bring your ticket with you and the host will give you a sticker. Location is good especially after a Disney park day if you want dining away from huge crowds. I loved the spicy salmon roll, it had a cilantro sauce that I'd never had before. And onto the cons. The price does not match the ambiance and quality of the food. Most of it was fine but nothing mind blowing (tho I did love the aforementioned spicy salmon roll). There was a leaf in the tempura which I'd never seen in a tempura before which is fine except the same leaf was used as garnish for sashimi to sit on which made it seem out of place as something to eat in the tempura. Speaking of the Hanagi Sashimi 5 ($48), 3 of the 5 fish were shrimp (limp, soggy,and unappealing), salmon (also limp and in long cuts to put into spirals??), and scallops which were flavorless. Just seems like throwaway cheap pieces especially on such an expensive entree. Okay this is the part I'm most annoyed at, the miso soup had SPINACH in it instead of seaweed. This completely changed the taste of the soup and made it have a bitter aftertaste. The cheapest hole in the wall places can make a delicious miso soup so it makes no sense a place like this couldn't do it. Another annoying thing was they have a photographer who comes and insists on taking photos of your table/party and then does the gimmick where they print them all out and pressure you into buying them for $20 each. I do not want to be bothered like this especially at a nice dinner. It cheapened the place even more. It's also wasteful because of course they just throwaway all the printed photos after you refuse to buy them. Anyway, our party of 4 spent $225 and will not be returning. read more

We went for an early dinner before a magic show in the same hotel, and was caught a little off guard since it seemed like there was no one in the restaurant other than staff. Given the lack of people, I was worried I'd pick a terrible place to dine.... Boy was I in for a surprise. Firstly, the nigiri are MASSIVE. You really get your worth. I thought I would get a chirashi bowl and supplement with some nigiri as an appetizer but a few nigiri alone was enough to fill me up. Second, the quality of the fish is AMAZING. I don't think I've had Uni that tasty anywhere other than Japan. The staff is super friendly and attentive, regularly dropping by to refill our water and offer additional drinks or food. The only thing I'd change is the lighting - it felt some what bright for what felt like such a fine dining experience, but I understand that's a personal preference and wouldn't fault the restaurant for that! 10/10 meal, definitely stop by if you're hungry! read more

There wasn't anything on the menu that had me excited to try like I often anticipate when trying new sushi restaurants. It was as great as it was the last time we were there. Again, we ordered the Omakase Sushi platter and it was delicious. We were so full. It's located inside the majestic hotel in Anaheim right across the street from Disneyland and it's so different from the hotel vibe. It's like a little Tokyo right in the middle of this medieval ISH hotel. The staff in the owners, the head chef were all super super sweet , that made the entire dinner amazing in itself. The elabarote structures built separating each table with privacy shades are beautiful. The service is excellent. Our waiter recommended Takara Plum Wine, and it has become our new favorite! Its sweet taste is refreshing over ice and paired well with our sushi rolls. The sushi rolls weren't the best I've ever had, but they were still good.
