Yagi's continues to be a solid spot for sushi. The omakase is now $78, which is still a good value for the quality you get. The courses come out fairly quickly, but the fish is fresh and the overall quality is very good. One small thing for me--the sweet shrimp head was served pre-cooked. Personally, when I order omakase, I prefer everything to be prepared fresh like it used to be pre-COVID. That said, the rest of the experience was still very enjoyable. The service is awesome and the staff is always friendly and attentive. And of course, the beer is cold, which always makes the meal even better. I highly recommend going off their daily recommendations board for their fresh seafood. Plenty of parking Food/Drink- 5 stars Ordered a variety of nigiri, but my favorites were their bellies, the golden eye snapper, and the sea bass. Also ordered the fried oysters and yellowtail collar which were fresh and full of flavor (pretty large yellowtail collar as well). The Aomori squid was really flavorful as well. Honestly, it was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the fish. We actually travel to Japan just to eat sushi so typically I have low expectations. However, this restaurant is actually up there with the quality of fish as well as the preparation. Everything was good although I think that their Black cod could use a little bit of help when it comes down to the miso cause it was a little bit salty. The service was really, really, really good. I didn't think it would be an upscale restaurant, but it is on the more upscale side in comparison to other sushi. Service was good and they stay attentive and everything was good. Yagi was amazing! My partner and I came here for our anniversary dinner wanting some delicious sushi, and this was both of our first time dining here. He even shared where some of the fish was sourced from, and it's clear they go through great efforts to bring in only the highest quality. You can really taste the difference. I do wish the omakase included uni, but we just ordered it separately for $20 (2 pieces), which I feel is very fairly priced. The chef mentioned that their uni is shipped directly from the Japan for the highest quality. It was absolute delectable and I would order this again every time to satisfy my uni needs. Excellent food, but dishonest management and zero professional courtesy. I have been a repeat customer at Yagi and have always praised their sushi as some of the best in Anaheim. We even brought an international guest here to show off the quality. However, our recent experience was appalling--not because of the food, but because of a total lack of integrity from management. We ordered the black miso cod, which arrived extremely salty. We politely informed the server and asked to replace it with tempura. There was no apology at the time, nor were we told the cod would remain on the bill. When the check arrived, we were still charged for it. The manager (who was also serving due to being short staffed) refused to remove the charge, claiming we had eaten "more than half." This was flatly untrue. We each took a bite, realized it was inedible, and sent it back with the vast majority of the fish still on the plate. To be clear, our bill was $170, so this isn't about the money. It is about the principle of being charged for a dish that was sent back nearly untouched. What's even more upsetting is after we left, I called the restaurant to calmly ask for the manager's name to follow up. I was hung up on the first time. When I finally got through the second time, the staff refused to give me a name, insisted that I spell my name first, and then hung up on me again. It is a shame that such high-quality food is overshadowed by a management team that is comfortable being dishonest about portions and cowardly enough to hang up on a customer. I came here on a Saturday passing town. Though unassuming from the outside, given such a secluded area for a restraunt away from all the bustling noise of the city, its quite nice and relaxing inside. There wasn't many others in the restraunt, which I'm not surprised seeing as it was still pretty early in the day. Service was kind, fast, and friendly. Now the food. It was great! Rich in flavor and honestly different than the usual Japanese restaurants I've gone to. I tried the Jellyfish, which came in a light sweet sweet pickled sauce, reminiscent of eel sauce however much lighter. If you've never tried it I'd say it's texture is firm and somewhat crunchy. The nodoguro, is light and buttery as they say. Melts in your mouth and with just a touch of soy sauce it elevates the tastes of this not so common fish. I must say though the garlic steamed clams was my favorite. It was a perfect balance of flavors, not overwhelmed with garlic but just enough to compliment the nutty flavors within the broth. To top it off I went with a classic go to lemon salmon roll, with delicately sliced lemons on top. To finish off my meal I ordered jumai ginjo, to help bring the fullness feeling down. I have been ordering from this restaurant a few times a month and my family especially likes the Red Dragon Roll. That is important because they also have a different roll called just the Dragon Roll. In the past I accidentally ordered the wrong one, so I have been extra careful ever since. I always say "Red Dragon Roll" clearly and ask them to repeat it back so there is no confusion. Whenever that mix up happened before, I assumed it was on me. I never complained. I either ate it anyway or went back and bought the right one. This most recent order was the first and only time I said something, because I was certain I had been clear and that the mistake was not mine. I picked up the food, got home, and realized it was the regular Dragon Roll instead of the Red Dragon Roll my family actually enjoys. I called right away and asked if they could swap it. They told me I must have ordered wrong and insisted they do not make those kinds of mistakes. They offered to sell me another roll but not to replace it, even when I said I was willing to bring the wrong one back. It is unfortunate because I see the same people there all the time and I know they recognize me as a frequent customer. They could have easily looked up my phone number and seen how often I order, which I mentioned to them. I have supported many of the small businesses in this center, and this felt like the kind of moment where they could have shown they value their community. Instead it turned into a standoff. Eventually after some back and forth they did refund the order, but only once I made it clear I would return the food either way and dispute the charge with my credit card if I had to. It should not have needed to go that far. The food here is good and I know how tough it is to keep a small business running. But customers should know the management here can be stubborn and they truly do not think they make mistakes. Be very specific when you order, have them repeat it back, and check your bag before leaving. read more

I can't believe it's been 9 years since I wrote a review for Yagi. My, so much has changed and yet this is still the BEST sushi in our area and beyond! Our little guy loves the Kid's B...this is a cute bento box that has 3 pieces of sushi that include Salmon, Shrimp and Tamago (Egg), as well as 2 Shrimp tempura & 1 sweet potato tempura, edamame and rice. Our favorites include: ***The N.Y. 19 roll which has spicy tuna/avocado wrapped in soy paper and then topped with seared white fish in a ponzu sauce *** The Red Dragon roll which is shrimp tempura, avocado and cucumber that is topped with spicy tuna plus jalapeño then drizzled with eel sauce. We ask for it without spicy mayo. *** The Lemon Tuna roll which is a spicy tuna, cucumber & avocado roll that is topped with tuna and lemon in a ponzu sauce ***Spanish Mackerel (Aji), Black Cod, King Salmon, Cherry Salmon, Yellowtail belly, Bluefin Toro and Japanese Butterfish. All are individually prepared and so delicious! The service is excellent and we couldn't be happier with how we are taken care of. They happily accommodate our special requests; like they sear our little guy's salmon sushi and they do our rolls with easy rice. And we are never in need of a water refill or help when we are ready for another round. Pro-tip: You can make reservations here on Yelp pretty easily and they also have their Yelp Waitlist so you can put your name on the list for a table/sushi bar without having to be there. This was the perfect place for Mom and me after stopping by the Ramon Peralta Adobe Historic Site. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space was cool with soothing piano jazz music in the background. Although a television showed a tennis game, it was not loud.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was pleasantly surprised that the appetizers included a variety of Japanese food dishes like agedashi dofu from which I could assemble a meal if necessary. (Since I'm diabetic, I need more vegetables and less rice.) Mom and I ordered the bento lunch, which came with avocado roll, miso soup, salad, teriyaki chicken, and a tempura assortment. Mom gave an enthusiastic thumbs up on the miso soup. It was very simple with white miso and wakame, but the miso was smooth and tasty. We also enjoyed the tempura. The batter seemed freshly made, and the tempura itself was crispy and cooked until tender. I was a little disappointed with the salad. Most of the greens were fine, but some of the lettuce looked slightly past prime. The salad dressing tasted like it had a little wasabi. Mom thought the avocado roll was a bit bland. It had avocado, cucumber, and a generous helping of crab salad. From a diabetes standpoint it was ideally low-carb, but we both ended up dipping it in soy sauce. The teriyaki sauce was a little sweeter than Mom's, but it was still good. The menu had a generous selection of alcohol (including Orion beer from Okinawa!), but no nonalcoholic beverages that didn't have caffeine. On a hot day like today, some mugicha (barley tea) would really have hit the spot. The service was attentive and excellent. Our water glasses were always full, and our server made sure we had what we needed. Mom was very happy after our lunch at Yagi, which is not the case with every Japanese restaurant we visit. We came here to celebrate my boyfriend's brother's birthday! I wanted to shout out our server, Tomi, for being so attentive, adaptive, kind, and giving absolutely phenomenal service! I really appreciated her grace and professionalism when one of our party members needed accommodations. You were amazing, Tomi! Some of the other servers had moved tables together to make us more comfortable, were attentive making sure we had water throughout dinner, were timely in giving us our dishes, and answered our questions happily. They had also replaced a beer that didn't taste quite right, didn't charge us for it, and gave us a discount for our night getting off to a rough start. This was all so generous - they seriously know how to treat their customers well and some! I'd dined here before and both times the food and service were both amazing. I ordered the omakase, which was $75 - the lowest price that I've ever seen for omakase while still having such high quality pieces. Each course was just 1 piece but they were perfectly seasoned and full of flavor, at times making me go "mmmmm" - it was so good! Our other server explained what each piece was, letting us know that some of the fish was imported from Japan. The dinner omakase is served with a miso soup, 10 pieces of nigiri, 1 hand roll, a fried shrimp head, and homemade panna cotta. I usually have favorites, but everything was so good that I couldn't pick one. The homemade panna cotta was different but good. I expected vanilla (like last time), but I tasted a slightly floral scent this time. It turns out that they used almond extract this time (I honestly preferred just vanilla)! These little differences make it fun to come in every so often and try the same thing to see if it changed. Some other dishes that I quite liked: the poke bowl, spicy tuna crispy rice, agedashi tofu. Their entrees are super filling. All in all, this restaurant is always such a pleasure to dine at. You should definitely make reservations ahead of time to ensure you have a table for your party as the space is on the smaller side (it's a small, hidden gem), but they do have several tables and a bar. Ended 2024 with the most satisfying meal. I've been coming here for years and the staff continue to be super welcoming and kind. The restaurant looks like a typical Japanese style on the inside. There's a nice sized bar that can seat about 10 people and about 5 tables. We got to the restaurant around 5:30pm and were lucky to get the last table. Seats started to fill up quickly for New Year's Eve! Food is consistently made with quality ingredients, fresh every time. We got monk fish, takowasa, jelly fish and seaweed salad as appetizers and they were light and refreshing before our main course. There were different textures to experience. The monk fish melted in my mouth, takowasa was chewy with a good kick from the wasabi and the jelly was crunchy. The omakase had a good amount of food, with 10 pieces of sushi, a miso soup, crispy shrimp head, blue crab hand roll and panna cotta for dessert! Great value at $75 for omakase alone. The yellowtail carpaccio had a perfect width of thickness to soak up all of the amazing sour favors from the juice and the yellowtail belly disintegrated as we devoured it. Hidden gem for those that love sushi Tucked away in Anaheim Hills, I had a craving for sushi and decided to give to spot a try. It is partially hidden and unassuming located in corner of the shopping center near a coffee shop. I tried their omakase set and was amazed. They had cherry salmon, yellowtail, scallops, and many other delicious fishes for sushi. I discovered some new sushi that I didn't know that I would enjoy. This place rivals that other older hidden gem in orange without the insane wait and bookings. This sets a new high bar of sushi and I would highly recommend this place for any one who can appreciate sushi. The rolls are 8 pieces each, if I remember correctly. We ordered 2 thinking they would be small, but it was actually a big portion considering how many other dishes we ordered. Simple yet delicious.
