I have dined at this restaurant many, many times and have always experienced top-tier hospitality and quality-forward dishes, which is why this visit was particularly disappointing. I actually attempted to call twice before writing this review because I wanted to give the restaurant an opportunity to address my concerns directly. We dined in on Sunday evening, and I completely understand that it was busy. In fact, we love seeing small businesses thrive and attract support from the local community. We waited patiently, and after about 15 minutes, we were seated. Once seated, we understood the tablet ordering system and were able to place our orders without an issue. Unfortunately, the service began to break down from there. Our server forgot our beer order, which by itself was not a big deal. However, we were also not informed that Salmon belly Sushi was unavailable until 15 minutes after. More importantly, our first two rounds of sushi never arrived. The main waiter was not around, so we weren't able to communicate that we were getting to the point where we were considering leaving. Fortunately, Patty, who I believe was the lead on shift, noticed that we had no food in front of us and stepped in. She brought out a round of sushi and continued checking on us throughout the remainder of our visit. Unfortunately, we experienced the same issue again--our additional sushi orders never arrived. At that point, it was simply too late. We canceled the remainder of our orders and just wanted to pay and leave. I do want to give Patty credit because she genuinely tried to recover the experience. She was attentive, checked on us repeatedly, and clearly recognized that something had gone wrong. She even offered a dessert as a gesture, but by that point, we were more interested in leaving than continuing the meal. Overall, this would have been a one-star experience based on the service and execution alone. The only reason I couldn't bring myself to give one star was because of Patty and the effort she made to take ownership of the situation. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. When a restaurant is busy, I completely understand that things can take longer. What matters is communication, awareness, and making sure guests aren't left wondering what happened to their orders. I truly hope this was just an off night because I have had many wonderful experiences here in the past and would love to see the restaurant get back to the level of hospitality I've come to expect. Honestly, the food here is pretty good. They have a lot of variety, and there are just so many interesting and different things you can get here compared to other sushi places in the same price range. They have a wide variety of items that I haven't really seen at other sushi spots, and some of the dishes are things I've only seen at other regional cuisines, so it was definitely interesting to try. When we went, it wasn't too busy, so we were able to just walk in and get seated. Everything came out pretty quickly, so we never really had to wait long for our food. They also have a few non-fish options, so if you ever start getting a little fish fatigue, they do have some grilled and beef items as well. I thought that was a nice change and gave us a few more options to choose from. Update 8/9/26: Came back here for lunch and was disappointed with pretty much everything we ordered this time. My Anaheim Roll was less than stellar. First of all, I did appreciate that they replaced the eel with extra salmon without charging me anything extra. However, each bite had a weird taste that I couldn't quite figure out. It took me a few minutes to realize it was the crunchy topping they put on the roll. Normally, I'm a big fan of the crunchy stuff they put on sushi rolls, but this time it tasted old, funky, and stale. Unfortunately, it completely ruined every bite of the roll. My boyfriend also said the salmon and tuna in his poke bowl didn't taste as fresh as what he's had at other restaurants. We came here after watching a YouTube review by Rockstar Eater, so we were excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, we left a bit underwhelmed. The customer service was excellent. Our waitress was incredibly kind, attentive, and made sure to get our order in before happy hour ended, which we really appreciated. The food, however, didn't quite live up to the hype. While the seafood was fresh and the quality was decent, it wasn't anything we couldn't find closer to home in Garden Grove. During happy hour, the pricing is a great value--you can get two rolls for around $20--but my husband felt the portions were on the smaller side. We ordered the Alaska Roll, Crunch Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Dynamite Roll. The Dynamite Roll was our least favorite, as it was overly mushy and seemed overcooked. For appetizers, we tried the calamari and gyoza. The calamari had a nicely seasoned, crispy batter, but the squid itself was unusually soft and had a strange stringy texture when biting into it. The gyoza was perfectly fine, but fairly standard and nothing particularly memorable. Our total came to $73.60 for four rolls and two appetizers, including an 18% tip. Regardless of how we felt about the food, we were happy to tip because great service deserves to be recognized. For a Saturday afternoon at 1pm, place was not busy! Service was ok, staff didn't come check on us or refill waters. Food was just ok. The tuna inside the Niku Roll had a funny taste to it. The salmon hand rolls were good, but the rice on the nigiri sushi was soaked with some type of sauce, maybe ponzu or something. Wasn't the vinegar typical rice. *NOT AUTISM FRIENDLY* This is not a bad review, just a warning to other parents out there. I wanted to treat my friend to sushi, and she has a toddler who can't eat new foods. I called ahead to ask about their kids menu, then picked up a happy meal at McDonald's since they do not have chicken nuggets. The host up front let us know that Niku had a strict outside food policy. He was very kind about it, but it was still shocking and even felt a bit discriminatory. I understand that restaurants are legally allowed to deny service since they carry all liability for any food consumed on the premise, but at the same time, people with disabilities are also allowed service dogs even though animals in restaurants are considered a health code violation. I guess the law just needs to catch up to include autistic people as well. Again, not a poor review. Just a word of warning. EDIT: Actually, just researched it!! It is in violation of ADA law. We did not bring in competing food (since it was a happy meal to a sushi restaurant), and we didn't ask for the kitchen to prepare the food (heat it up) in any way so no cross contamination. Hopefully, we can both learn from this experience. RESPONSE: Hi, Angela. Please research the matter fully before responding. This is not considered cross contamination since the outside food is not being handled or prepared by kitchen staff or even crossing into food preparation areas. It would be more of a violation if kitchen and service staff were eating in food prep areas. (And with all due respect, seeing as to Niku's past health code violations which are public information, outside food doesn't seem to be your biggest issue anyway.) Here's the bottom line: According to ADA law (please reference Title III) and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act, Autism is a disability requiring meal modifications. It is recognized that federal and state laws regarding equal access for people with disabilities supersede local ordinances. There is also precedent that "outside food" is a "reasonable modification" to accommodate an Autistic toddler. You may refuse service as you are a private business, but you cannot use OC Health Codes as the excuse. I am just here to warn other parents that this establishment is not able to accommodate these specific needs. In the future, I will advocate for my friend's son better than I did that day. One of the better AYCE AYCE AYCE sushi spots I've tried. About 10 minutes from Disneyland in downtown Anaheim. There's free parking and a big restaurant with a lot of tables and bar seating. We came in for dinner, $38.99 PP. 100 minutes time limit, order via tablet and you can order every 10 minutes (wait every 10 minutes to place an order). Plenty of time. The specialty fish and dishes were delicious. 1 per person, Salmon, Yellowtail belly, Hotate (large scallop), carpaccio, etc. the nigiri sushi was outstanding, fresh, not a ton of fish and rice (loved their different sushi), appetizers and dishes abound. The service was also awesome as the wait staff checked on us often. Water and soda were always full. Great time, great sushi, definitely be back after my next Disneyland trip again! read more

Continuing our search for a decent AYCE sushi place in OC, we made the 40 min trek out to Anaheim to check out Niku Sushi. We decided to go early for dinner (4pm) to avoid any potential crowds. Upon arrival, we were pleased to see that they had free parking. There are several other businesses in the area, along with residential condos right across the street. As we entered, we were surprised at how large the restaurant is. We sat in the front near the entrance, but there's a huge area in the back that can accommodate many people. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted by a friendly employee who explained the AYCE sushi process to us. Basically you order everything on the iPad that they give to you. This is an efficient method because you send your order directly to the kitchen, however I actually prefer having a paper list so I can see everything on one sheet, instead of scrolling up & down. There are limits to how many pieces you can order: Order Limit (per person, per round): * Up to 10 pieces of sushi nigiri * Up to 3 orders of soup & salad * Up to 3 orders of appetizers * Up to 2 orders of rolls (4 - 8 pcs per order) * Up to 2 orders of no-rice rolls (2 pcs per order) This makes me wonder why they call it AYCE if there are limitations. Also you must finish in 100 minutes. The AYCE price for dinner is $38.99 pp, which is lower than most AYCE places that we've tried. The fish to rice ratio was appropriate and the nigiri seemed pretty fresh. The rest of the items we ordered were not as good, such as the salmon skin hand roll (tasteless), the baked oyster and mussels (rubbery) and hubby didn't care for the Alaska roll. Came here for lunch at 12pm. There's plenty of parking as there is a private parking lot for the restaurant which is always a plus. For $38.99 each, we got the AYCE sushi. You order on an iPad and they have a large menu of appetizers, nigiri, fresh rolls, cut rolls, and hand rolls. PROS: service was quick and friendly; the sushi is so fresh and so delicious (salmon roe, yellowtail carpaccio, and salmon carpaccio were the BEST); the restaurant is very clean; $39 for fresh and great AYCE sushi is awesome; the interior is cute and the sushi is made right in front of you; plenty of TVs to watch sports and shows. CONS: the nigiri options are limited, while the menu is packed with plenty of fresh roll options; the seating arrangement for lunch can be hit or miss. If you're in the Anaheim area, this is a must try to satisfy your sushi cravings! Our waiters were great and all of the sushi is so visually appealing. The restaurant is quite big as there are basically three different seating areas. There is one area for big parties, a middle hallway for two people seating, and a large mean area with the nice interior and design. Stopped by Niku Sushi after Disney for Mother's Day and it was such a good choice. We did the all you can eat sushi and everything tasted super fresh. Even the short rib surprised me -- super tender and packed with flavor. The sushi itself was really well balanced too. A lot of places overload the rice, but the fish-to-rice ratio here was perfect and you could actually appreciate how fresh the fish was. Huge shoutout to Christopher, Clara, and Kevin for taking amazing care of us the entire time. The service was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. The only small downside was that my son only ate plain rice and we were charged $3 per bowl for it. I totally understand policies, but since he wasn't really eating from the menu otherwise, it would've been nice if there had been a little flexibility there. After a long day at Disneyland, I was starving and looking for some fuel. At first I thought this was associated with Niku steakhouse and all the chubby cattle brands but it is not. I called ahead just to check on the wait and was pleasantly surprised that it was actually pretty empty. There's plenty of parking and I saw quite a few folks pick up to go orders but I already had my mind set on AYCE. The service is kind and I always love siting at the bar and watching the chefs do their thing. This place was super casual with the tvs on. The sushi itself was just average. I can tell you I hated the chicken skewers and the oysters. The skewers had this odd flavor profile and the oysters did not taste fresh and were so rubbery that I spit it out. Honestly we have been loyal customers for about a year we would come Fridays maybe 1-3 times a month . My husband would always say he doesn't want to go because service is bad . And really it is hit or miss but I like their variety in menu and if we got lucky and got a really nice server it was great and one of the Chef's is so nice and really takes pride in his work , one of the times we sat at the bar we had him serving us ! But the final straw was their internet was down one Friday but we got there when it was back up and running . However their Yelp waitlist that they had at the front was still offline and the staff probably 90% of them was in a BAD MOOD . Ordered Golden Tiger Rolls, King Lion roll, shrimp boat, jalapeno pepper. The Golden Rolls was a great price, got two rolls for the price around $21. I did a door dash order so I can speak on service. But they did make sure to give me wasabi, ginger, and sauce without me asking for it. I have to admit, I did not like the food. They cream cheese taste like it was a mixed or cream cheese and mayo mixed together. Unfortunately the Golden Tiger and jalapenos poppers both have the cream cheese and I just couldn't eat it. We ordered some appetizers and an assortment of nigiri. The appetizers came out quickly. I really enjoyed the crispy spicy tuna rice and the baked scallop. The nigiri took a very long time to come out. We had asked our waitress multiple times about our order and she said there was only one sushi chef that night and he was currently backed up. She also mentioned she was a bit afraid of him so she didn't want to ask him about our order...a very odd thing to say in my opinion. It had been about an hour by the time our nigiri came out. Since AYCE is timed, that cut a lot into our meal to be able to order more. The nigiri in general was very good. It was just a shame it took so long to come out. The food overall was very good. This was my first time eating at Niku Sushi located in Anaheim, CA. I'd really wanted to like the place but some of their food fell short. After very disappointing, mediocre mexican food from last night, this was 5 times better but with a few flaws. 4/5 Good -Free refills for the Arnold Palmer was on point. -Grilled shrimp tasted fresh, not the frozen mushy ones. -Service: I had like 3 different servers getting my drinks refilled and some were attentive and some kinda clumsy, dropping the ipad on the table. Some of the food took longer than usual, and I had to flag the staff, but overall service was good. -This place has a lot of seating and outside seating is available too, I think. Parking is good and not too narrow like other places for your vehicles. 3/5 OK -Shrimp tempura was soggy, not crunchy. -Miso soup tasted a bit salty. -Super Dragon Roll tasted ok but I had a lot better in LV and other AYCE sushi places. -Side salad has a good ginger dressing but no tomatoes or cucumber on it. 2/5 Bad -Their beef ribs had small bone fragments. I bit on something really hard twice, and I had to spit it out on a piece of napkin SMH. Also, the marinade and taste it's not Korean style, it's more like a south-east asian flavor. -Chicken wings that were undercooked had to be sent back. -Fries were small bits and pieces. I think these are curly fries. -I wasn't really impressed with some of their sushi rolls and I think the rolls are a bit too big. I really like Unagi (eel) but, for some reason, their Unagi quality wasn't up to par with LV or other AYCE sushi places. -The Salmon collard came out the very last out of all the appetizers and, for being this small, it shouldn't take that long. -Desert wasn't included on the AYCE dinner menu. You would have to shell out another $1.99 or more. I wasn't really mind-blowing dining here at Niku Sushi. Another AYCE sushi place has a lot more to offer and a bit cheaper and dessert is included. We waited about 10 minutes before we were seated, which was not bad restaurant is your typical Japanese style interior decor. It was noisy and during the time we were there, it was quite busy. Food came out quickly, and everything from the appetizers to the nigiri and sashimi was fresh and delicious. No issues at all with quality or freshness. I especially enjoyed the salmon belly, salmon, and eel, which all stood out. We also tried the beef short rib, which came out steaming hot, very flavorful, and went down easily. The crispy spicy tuna rice was another highlight and made for a great starter. One downside for me was the baked oysters. I didn't enjoy them as much as the baked mussels, which were more savory and flavorful. Overall, it was a good experience and definitely a spot worth checking out. I use to love this place. Not no more. They changed alot of things. My order at the end didn't come out. Oyster was nasty. First order of mussels was over baked n dry. The fresh sashimi is good. Haven't been here in 2 years and the food is still excellent! I love the switch to the iPad ordering. Food still comes out super quick. My son and I had dinner at Niku Sushi last night and we had such an amazing experience! From the moment we walked in, everyone was welcoming, and the atmosphere was warm, relaxing, and inviting. A special shout-out to our server, Patty! She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating, especially with my son, who has autism. She was so patient, kind, and genuinely made us feel comfortable throughout our meal.
