Hanalei Poke offers some of the freshest poke I have had during this trip. They sell $7 Mai tais and other drinks. The poke comes with rice and salad. It's so so good during a hot day especially. Service was quick. Few seats right out where you order but can quickly get crowded. I highly recommend it if you are in Hanalei. The Kealia (spicy) was my favorite
I was honestly debating whether or not to post a review on this place since I was sadly disappointed with the flavor of their poke. But being that I was traveling to Kauai and was excited to taste it, i would want to save some people the disappointment. Got the Kealia bowl as it was featured in Guy's Diners, drive ins, and dives. And either this dude has never ever tasted poke in his life before or I unfortunately had a bad batch. The watermelon, mango, and avocado flavors were non existent and the other toppings seemed to add no flavor whatsoever. Granted the poke size was good and had decent texture but I honestly prefer Foodland poke (And as a local saying that, that's pretty bad) Plus the place is overly crowded and overpriced for below average poke. For all the tourists that have never tried poke in their life, sure it's a good starter but for all u locals from oahu that are intrigued to try it, save yourself the trouble and try something else. 1 star :(
The poke at this spot is really fresh and delicious! Their location is convenient and clean if you want to dine in. The takeout process is a little wonky since you have to wait in the ordering/drinks area after ordering. The food was worth the wait, but definitely a bit pricey at over $33 with tax/tip for the poke, no add-ons or drinks. Probably more worth it if you wanna sit there for a while and have drinks!
Wouldn't recommend getting poke here. We tried poke at several different spots around the island, including places where poke isn't even the main focus - and every single one was better than this. That includes the atmosphere, the food, and the service. When we ordered, they just handed us the containers, no bag, no napkins, nothing. Not sure how we were supposed to carry multiple containers by hand all the way to the beach. The poke itself was bland, and they don't provide anything to fix it, no salt, no pepper, no soy sauce. There was a lot of rice and very little fish, which feels pretty strange for the price. Again, we had poke in other places on the island and it was way better. I'd recommend skipping this spot and trying poke somewhere else if you can.
Hanalei poke has been featured on the food network with innovative poke dishes such as poke plates with macadamia nuts, mango, watermelon and more. The service was fast and helpful. The restaurant has limited outdoor seating in its patio. Some of the dishes like the wasabi based poke was just a bit too strong on the wasabi flavor. It was hard to taste the fish. The fish chunks are smaller than other Kauai poke places so it's harder to get the fish flavor. The local boy and security bowls were very good.
Delicious poke bowls in a convenient location for shopping and the beach at Hanalei. We had to stop by, as my husband is a big poke fan, and I grew up watching Guy Fieri. The food was fresh and tasty, and I appreciated having tons of flavor options to choose from. I'm not a big fan of edamame, so it was nice to have plenty of menu items without. We ordered a Hanalei special plate, which provided enough food for us to share. Otherwise, the price was a bit high for a one-person meal. Worth noting that there is only one fish option--tuna--for those looking for salmon or something cooked. Outdoor seating area is the only option for dining in. It's a roomy and breezy spot, but with a view to one of the parking lots for Ching Young Village. We enjoyed watching the chickens, but that might not be an experience for everyone.
Delicious poke. VERY expensive. The poke here is outstanding. Very fresh and flavorful and their flavor choices are awesome. Love the toppings too. But the portion is incredibly small for the price so we probably will not return. There is poke just as good for more affordable at other places! Outdoor only seating on a small patio but we didn't have trouble finding a table.
We wrapped up a solid Sunday the right way -- sun, water, and that deep, earned hunger after a long paddleboard session. After a few hours on the water, there's only one thing that really makes sense in Hawaii: poke. Fresh. Simple. No drama. Or so you hope. Hanalei Poke was an easy choice at first. A quick search, strong reputation, beautiful location. Inside, the place looks great -- clean, bright, laid-back island vibe. The menu is straightforward and easy to understand, which I actually appreciate. No unnecessary complications. But here's where things started to slip. We were a group of four, clearly hungry, clearly trying to understand what works best if you're eating on the beach. I had to actively pull information out of the staff -- what to order, how portions work, what makes sense for first-timers. It wasn't rude, just uncomfortable. I shouldn't feel like I'm bothering someone by asking how to order food at a place that lives off tourists. When the food was ready, we were handed four separate containers, utensils, and drinks -- no bag, no offer, no question. Just "here you go." We were heading straight to the beach. Luckily, there were four of us to carry everything. For a $109 bill, that kind of service simply doesn't match the price point. A bag or even the courtesy of asking would've gone a long way. Now, the important part -- the poke itself. It was good. Fresh fish, solid flavors, well balanced. No complaints there. The food did its job, and I enjoyed eating it by the ocean. But overall? Good food alone isn't always enough. I don't usually give four-star reviews, but this is one of those cases. Beautiful spot, tasty poke, but service that feels a bit too indifferent for the prices they charge. Thank you -- but next time, I'll try a different place.
We stumbled across this place after grabbing coffee. We had just wrapped up hiking the napali coast and were starving. I looked up on Yelp a place to eat and found Hanalei Poke. I didn't realize until we were there that it had been featured in Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-In's and Dives. We got there and there was no one in line. After placing our order at the counter, we grabbed a seat. Our food was ready in less than 10-15 minutes, but by that point the line was SO long. The food was incredible! It was so fresh and flavorful. The ordering style is different. You order based off certain ingredients and poke style. I ordered the security, while the others ordered the paddler. It was super unique but so delicious!
We got fairly lucky 'beating the line' as there was a manageable line when we first ordered, got our food, then hit the lineup. This could have been a busy time, however, but I don't think the crazy line would justify the food. Back to the poke, it's great. Quality and fresh. Kombucha locally sourced and tried a handful now and would recommend the blueberry! read more
We had a lot of different poke on Kauai (half dozen). This was the best... , not the cheapest, not the most scoops of poke... just the best fish and flavors. That being said, we only ate there once so my 5th star is always reserved for consistency. read more
Pretty expensive for the amount of food you're getting but it was delicious and really high quality. I liked how you could customize and choose the sauce and any additional toppings. I just wish the portion was larger for the price. read more

When you're in Hawaii, you have to have the poke, and Hanalei Poke came recommended by many sites about Kauai food. Getting here was a little bit confusing, as it is in Ching Young Village Shopping Center, next to Kalypso. We were coming from the NorthWest side of Kauai and saw the sign near Big Save so parked over there, looking for a food truck, but it's a set establishment further to the East than we thought... Luckily it wasn't too busy at 1:30pm on a Sunday, and we ordered right away. I got the Super Grom, which featured shoyu, sesame oil, ponzu, unagi sauce, avocado, furikake, and inamona (which is like a salty nutty condiment). It took a little while for it to be ready, but I think they make each order fresh, as the taste was fantastic. Slightly sweet, I loved that I could also really taste the tuna. I loved the poke so much that I was sad when I finished, which was a little too quick. For almost $20 ($2 was added due to market price surge), I expected a little more of a meal, but I was still left hungry after. Overall, come for the taste and fresh fish, but probably better for a snack as opposed to a full-on meal. read more

This was our first lunch after arriving in Kauai and it did not disappoint! The poke was so fresh and delicious (not at all mushy or chewy). The flavors go so well together. Highly recommend!!! read more
Melt in your mouth fish. I ordered the Hanalei Special which was uniquely mixed with mango. I got it over salad which gave it the perfect crunch. My husband got The Paddler which was wasabi mayo based - he said it might be the best poke he's ever had. This place was also featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. read more

I was on a hunt for fresh poke and this hit the spot. There is a huge selection of poke to choose from based on your desired marinade/seasoning. I got the super grom (sesame oil and soy based) which was 5/5 so amazing. The ahi tasted really fresh and the marinade was tasty but not overpowering (a little salty, I will say, but not terribly so). The veggies were all crisp and fresh - and the salad was beautifully plated! Lastly, it is a bit pricey, even for Kauai, but it was worth every penny!! Definitely give Hanalei Poke a try. read more
This was probably the most expensive poke we had on the island..and we tried quite a bit of it too. Not sure if because Guy Fieri apparently has been to the spot, but considering the place is also cash-only, it's expensive. And of course Guy Fieri is plastered all over the truck. It's also the only real poke spot in Hanalei, so perhaps that adds to the ability to charge such a premium. But you would think for such a premium you would get to-go containers with lids and not your food on a paper plate (to-go means you get plastic covering over it). The poke is good and seems to be freshly made/seasoned to order, compared to pre-made at most other places. 2 chill guys man the truck looking spot in Hanalei. The spicy soy sauce is really quite something, definitely get that. Would we eat this again? No. Is it a good place if you're craving poke while up north? Yes. read more
Really disappointing experience. No other options besides ahi, and the fish wasn't even fresh despite the somewhat bragging claim that they only serve the "freshest ahi." You can see in the attached picture the fish is a pretty dull red (not bright like real fresh ahi), soggy texture, and somewhat bland flavor. Rice tasted burnt in some parts, and the sauce that was their most "umami" tasted like nothing. Portion size was also very laughable for $23!! Also "lucky you!" is not something one should say in food service towards customers, especially when the poke is not up to standard.. Would not recommend. read more
Amazing poke! The one thing that I wish should be changed is that their hours are pretty spontaneous and the prices are a tad expensive. My friends have been to Kauai before and this time was their fourth time coming in which the store was finally open. We got lucky and went on Thursday at 12:15 pm and there wasn't a huge line. I got the Pono, and the sauce on the fresh fish was amazing. The portion size is very small for a $20 bowl, which is unfortunate because the fish is so delicious. There are so many different options of sauces and varying levels of spices, but you can't stray and make your own combo. read more

Hanalei poke is our FAV POKE ON THE ISLAND. Although I have to add that this is not your traditional island poke. There were so many yummy options on their menu but I ordered the Hanalei Special. It was wowwww! Inhaled and gone and looking for seconds type of poke. The combinations of flavors, textures, fresh fish and friendly service make this place phenomenal! I'm still blown away by how amazing my poke was. I love how they add the crunch from the kukui nuts and how there's sweetness from the mango and that chili pepper shoyu! Not to mention, white ginger seems so much sweeter and yummier than pink and this was the only place that had it that we tried! There's plenty of seating, friendly vibes and amazing food. What more could you ask for? P.S. this place was so hard to find with google maps! It's behind/next to chicken in a barrel bbq! Opposite side of what google maps says hahah read more
Came here on a Sunday afternoon when the line wasn't more than 1 person but it can grow at any moment. Service was fast the first time i ordered and the lady at the register clearly described how spicy it was. When i went back and ordered 15 mins later it was under 15 mins to be served with it a little busier in the kitchen. Got two different bowls only because me and 2 others had to go order another bowl because they're not filling for $20 and that's the only reason wouldnt put 5 stars easily. One was the Hawaiian and the other Hanalei special which wasn't spicy for someone that thinks anything is spicy which isn't a complaint. Ginger was. Planning to come back tomorrow read more

A for effort, D for price and portion size. Really enjoyed the variety of flavors offered here. We loved the creamy cilantro with pine nuts - so unique and tasty. Added free chili oil to the Kealia and enjoyed that one as well. But skip the salad or plate options (we didn't realize it was extra, and the salad was pretty mediocre) and just get poke over rice. After everything was said and done (two poke plates, water, tax, tip, and credit card upcharge) it was a $67 lunch for two, and we were hungry again two hours later. read more

Not bad but the spicy it's not even spicy . Overpriced. Been here with my friends and my husband , we are from oahu island . We just want to try the poke coz they pretty have good reviews in Yelp . When we tried is not even that good . Too pricey for the serving size . read more
After hearing much hype around this spot - approved by the one and only GUY FIERI!?!? - I had to try it out myself. I ordered the Hanalei Special by itself, no salad or plate. The portion is definitely bigger than it looked and WOW! The tuna essentially melts in your mouth. It's lightly seasoned, a little sweet, with avocado and mango. It definitely lived up to its hype :) read more

Kealia- spicy sesame, cilantro, mint, mango, watermelon, avocado, inamona & macadamia nuts. $23 Haena Haze- spicy mayo, cilantro cream, avocado, mango, mint & macadamia nuts. $23 Fish was fresh, flavors were mild and additional $4 each for rice and salad combo. Salad was romaine, red cabbage and sprouts. Price was pretty steep and we were used to having our rice and salad included from the Bay Area. read more

Such incredible poke! Just a short walk from the main road. They have a great selection of marinated poke as well as kombucha. The poke is diced small and seasoned so well. The service was very fast and the vibes were chill! The seating is limited but people eat pretty quickly so space should open up. read more
This place had good reviews and I definitely wanted to eat all the poke while on the island so we came to try it. TLDR: excellent poke imo, $$$, small parking lot, $3 to make it a plate or otherwise it's rather small portions; still recommend! PARKING There is a small parking lot but it can fill pretty quickly. There are some other small parking lots nearby but we were lucky enough to find parking immediately or within 5 min both times we came. DISHES I was between two dishes and at the employee's suggestion got the Hanalei special. It was certainly smaller than I expected and we got an order from another restaurant so it worked out in getting us full. The poke was so delicious you forgot about the price and I wanted more. I loved it so much the next time we went I got the exact same thing but as a 1/2 and 1/2 plate. So I cannot speak to the rest of the menu. RECOMMENDATIONS The Hanalei special was great and we made it a 'plate' for an additional $3 the second time we went to be more filling. SERVICE The employee I interacted with was friendly, helpful, and actually remembered me the second time I went (how embarrassing my poke addiction was being noticed! Jk) AMBIANCE It's very relaxed. There's outdoor seating and a more covered seating area inside WHEN TO GO We went at 11:30am when they opened and there was already a small line but it moved quickly. I would go early for parking but really if you're in the area you should still stop by. read more
Hands down one of the best poke we've had!! We got the Mac on a plate which includes rice and salad. My friends got the Hanalei special that was also so good. Overall it was $$$ and portions are very small but the fish was super fresh and delicious. There are so many other poke spots to try on the island but I really wish we went back and got it again before we left! read more
i hate to say it but this was some of the best poke i had on the island! thought it would be overhyped but it's not. it really is that good. the prices though... i get its well known but over $20++ for a SMALL bowl of poke is insane! it is not a huge portion whatsoever. super sick location with some other shops around. service was good and there's seating available. would recommend to try at least once because the flavor combinations are fire. read more
Overall best poke I've ever had. The fish was so fresh, and I love that they curate the dishes for you (when I order poke at home I usually end up trying to build my own and just adding everything and it has no theme.) the one I ordered had mangos, avocados and macadamia nuts, very Hawaiian, very fresh and very tasty! We arrived at 11:30am, exactly when they opened, and there were already 2 other people waiting. We placed our order, and then waited around 10 minutes for our food. There are a few picnic tables in the back, and by the time we finished eating, there was a short line and all the tables were taken. Really good amount of food for the price. read more
I can't stop thinking about how great this poke was. I Ordered the hanalei special with the salad and the fish was sooo fresh and seasoned to perfection. I savored every bite of this meal and always send family and friends who visit to support this place. The quality is some of the best on the island and a nice relaxed outdoor dining area to enjoy your meal. read more
