3.5 stars. Lone food truck in a lot with a few parking spaces, another eating establishment and another food truck around the corner. We shared 2 items, fried spam musubi and pork Lau Lau which came with rice and a scoop of Mac cheese. The pork was juicy and moist. Mac cheese was OK. I didn't care for the fried musubi. Stopped here directly after my flight for a quick snack, and this was the BEST fresh & tasty food to have after a flight. I love the variety of options on the menu and the prices are really good too. Also, the lady in the front was so nice I've never had any Spam Musubi like this, but it was SO good I loved the crispiness and the flavor. We tried hurricane shrimp, deep fried spam musubi, pork plate lunch, poke and a pineapple smoothie. This was our first truck we tried in Kauai and 5 meals around the island later it's been the best and most memorable. I'm not a huge fan of musubis but this one was SO GOOD! We came right as they were closing, I believe they ran out of a lot of things so they closed a little early, keep that in mind when planning this for an early dinner. I ordered the Garlic Furikake Chicken plate (comes with Mac salad and rice) but they were out of Mac salad :( so they doubled the rice. That's easily the best chicken I've ever had! I'm bummed they ran out of Mac salad but I'd definitely just plan to come earlier instead of when they were closing. The lady I ordered from was very nice and complimented my Selena shirt (anything for Selena!:) she helped me along with my order and I ended up loving what I got. Definitely recommend! Been here twice and both times the food was so ONO My favorite so far is the Cali bowl. Fresh poke over a bed of greens. It's definitely my favorite poke bowl of all times. I love that this food truck is conveniently located at Walmart which is walking distance from my job. The drinks are both delicious and refreshing. Interesting location being in the Walmart parking lot but also makes sense since Walmart is always busy! So lots of traffic near by! Staff was super nice! I got the loco moco and unfortunately the beef patties were very raw in the middle. But the flavor of everything else was good! They ran out of Mac salad which I was looking forward to trying. I had the mahi mahi, my husband had the filet mignon, and we split the arugula salad--each of those dishes was excellent. Our friends shared the pasta and really enjoyed it as well. Unfortunately, the appetizers and dessert were disappointing. I wouldn't recommend the firecracker shrimp; it was soggy and there was no "fire" or kick at all. We also tried the oysters, which we were told were fresh from Washington State, but they didn't smell or taste fresh to us, and they were so large we couldn't eat them. Dessert was another miss--the chocolate torte was dry and tasted like cardboard. One other issue: the wind was whipping through the restaurant the entire time, making it uncomfortably cold. We ended up wearing our raincoats throughout dinner, which really took away from the experience. Overall, great service and strong entrees, but the temperature/wind problem and the uneven appetizer/dessert quality would make us think twice about returning.

We have been on the island for 6 nights. Each evening we have tried Mai Tai's. Lava Lava's are by far the best!!! They are not too sweet and a good pour! We got there early as the other reviews said it gets crowded and they do not take reservations. We arrived at 5 pm on a Wednesday and were seated right away closest to the beach. For our starter we had edamame which was a large portion and so good. My husband ordered the Chicken Pineapple Rice Bowl and substituted the chicken for the coconut shrimp. The rice was AMAZING as well as the shrimp, but our only complaint was the portion was very small and was served with only 3 shrimp. The picture looks like you get a lot, but it came in a carved out SMALL pineapple. The presentation was beautiful though. I had the Ceasar salad and added chicken. It was so good!!! The lettuce was so crisp! Nothing worse than a Ceasar salad with wilty romaine lettuce. I've had plenty of those in my day. This was one of the best I've ever had! Everything arrived in a timely manner. We had a great night. Side note...they offer free valet parking which is at the very top of the parking lot. I have nothing but high praises for Lava Lava's beach club!! You must check it out for yourself. You will be so happy you did!

We went on a Saturday around lunchtime and it wasn't too busy. There is a small parking lot near the restaurant on the left hand side. It was filled when we first got there, but we were luckily able to get a spot. I could see this lot filling up quickly during other meal rush hours, so do take note if you plan on driving. The ordering is done like your typical poke place, you tell the service worker what you would like and there's a small toppings bar at the end before the cashier. There was a small line when we went, and even with the line, it still only took about 5-10 minutes to get our food. There isn't interior seating in the restaurant though, you will have to get your food take out, or just eat in the parking lot. I got the 3 scoops of poke option for $15.25, and I think that this is a pretty solid deal for the variety of fish that you can try out! I think based on my personal experience on Kaua'i, it will be difficult to get food, especially poke at a reasonable price. But for this price, it's probably the best place on the island to get poke without paying $20+ for the same variety. The fish tasted fresh, and I am a fan of the selection of toppings they had. If you are in the Lihue area and looking to try some poke at a reasonable price, I would recommend The Fish Express! There seems to be a decent amount of other interesting looking options on the menu, and if I'm ever in the area again, I would totally give them a try!
