Always, Wishing Well lived up to our expectations. Because there was a deluge of rain as we drove into Hanalei, there wasn't a line when we got there. Even though we parked in the back lot because of all the cars there. My husband had his cherry & mango over vanilla ice cream. The rest of us had straight shaved ice. One with organic strawberry, one POG & cherry & I had cherry, mango & lychee. I wished it had more lychee, maybe next year I'll go with only 2 flavors. The new covered picnic tables saved us from getting wet while sitting there. A definite plus. read more

This place was really enjoyable. There were some upsides and downsides, so we ranked it third in our overall Kauai shave ice places for our recent trip (June 2026). Gone is the wishing well of the past with its staunch soup nazi of a server making perfect melt in your mouth saved ice, now it's very nice young ladies that, as a foody myself know have much to learn about the simple art of the shaved ice trade. Your delicious dessert will be a bowl of cold sweet soup before you can take a seat. Easy fix if they take the advice from a old chef... Compress the first ball of shaved ice firm and then add a layer of fluffy shaved ice around it then add your favors. This will insure the ice dessert stays shape and dosnt melt before your customers can indulge. Stopped by Wishing Well to grab some shaved ice on our way to the beaches on the north shore. They have some recommended combos, but I built my own with pog, strawberry, and coconut and no ice cream or toppings for $6. The actual store is a food truck with a roof built over it, and seating is all outdoors. It was raining when we came so most of the seating was wet unfortunately. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the shaved ice. I didn't like the strawberry flavor at all, though coconut and pog were both good. However, the ice melted super quickly and I had a puddle of watered down syrup sitting in my bowl within minutes. Ice was nice and soft, but as you can see from my picture there was a lot of holes in the ice. Felt like they could've done a better job of packing it. read more

I love heading to this part of town to see all the hidden gems and Wishing well is one of them. We love a place that has many options, simple but enough to keep us all wondering if it's bad to come back everyday to eat shaved ice? Never! They also had some stickers and trinkets for sale, and I got a sticker. We've had at least one shaved ice every day since we've been here and the one at Wishing Well was pretty good!! I wasn't into any of the combos they already had put together so I created my own! I appreciate that they have the organic fruit flavors and traditional candy flavors split up so it's visibly easier to pick. I ended up getting guava & mango with macadamia ice cream and a snow cap which came out to be around $12 before taxes and fees. The shaved ice places on the island all cost approximately the same! After seeing this place featured in food vlogs, we decided to drive up to Hanalei from Lihue to check it out. I'm glad we did! The Wishing Well is a food truck operating as part of the Slow Yourself Down Compound, which features a retail shop and a coffee spot. The line is long, but moves quickly. I ordered the Caffeine Monkey, which is brewed coffee and banana syrup. I actually don't like anything banana flavored, but I took a leap of faith on this for the coffee. It was REALLY good. The banana syrup didn't have that artificial banana aftertaste I expected. The coffee over shave ice was so refreshing! I got it topped with chocolate chips, which were cold and added a slight crunch before melting in my mouth. My son got the Local and my daughter ordered a BYO pineapple. Our bowls were stacked with fluffy shave ice and drenched in syrups that permeate all the way through. We were all very satisfied! We rated this lowest among the half dozen or so shaved ices we had on the islands. We opted for the non-organic but very popular rainbow combination. The flavors did taste artificial and more overtly sweet that some of the naturals we had. The ice was packed loosely relative to others we had, and melted much more quickly, even with the evening temperature outside being already cool. Their Mac nut ice cream was good, with a somewhat larger portion than we had with some others, but not enough to win us over. They were out of passion fruit for the $11 Tropical Bliss shave ice that we wanted, but they generously offered to replace it with just about anything we wanted. I think wising well does shave well super well! The shave ice is so big so I recommend sharing for sure unless you have a mega sweet tooth then you do you queen. We got the shave ice relatively quickly and the folks here were really kind. There's plenty of outdoor seating-picnic tables. Two people I shared this with noted that they wanted way more condensed milk. The Sunset (no ice cream). I did see some real fruit seeds so the syrup they use is probably made from real fruit. The coconut cream on top is thick. It wasn't overly sweet. These two shave ices were alright. The fruit flavors could be more pronounced, more concentrated.
