The waitress was attentive and clarified how some of our orders would turn out so we didn't get surprised. The overall feel of the restaurant was cozy with beautiful lights and cutesy decorations. This place is ok but I don't think we'll ever come back just because it was just that, ok Ordered 2 large poke and 1 ramen (with extra noodles), and a calamari appetizer. Total was around $72 before tip First poke had spicy tuna, salmon, escolar Second poke had spicy imitation crab, escolar and scallop The fish tasted fresh. The imitation crab didn't have any spice. The escolar and scallop lacked flavor. Usually at poke spots, the fish are marinated. Then more sauce is added to the overall bowl. Not the case here. It was really weird to eat plain fish like that with no sauce on a poke bowl. I wanted to ask for more sauce or soy sauce but waitress didn't come by much and I was hungry! The poke and ramen base offerings are very minimal. Nothing special. You can add on different toppings with a charge. Calamari was gross. It was hard and chewy. Sauce was boring. Ramen was ok. They serve you hot tea. I think the tea was my favorite thing... Place is small. Parking is plenty. Lots of tables for a small place. Hooray for Hanami! I have eaten here at least 8 times to date and finally want to review. The food is delicious. The portions are big and worth the reasonable prices. I have had: Ramen, Tempura, Edamame, Miso soup, Chicken Katsu, Poke Bowl, & Sushi. Last night I enjoyed one of the most delicious and freshest Poke bowls that I've ever eaten. I usually get takeout and have eaten in the restaurant once. The restaurant is clean. The decor is cheerful and whimsical and the front house staff are always welcoming and very nice! The only minus for me was the size of the sushi rolls. Too big for me but delicious. That is only my preference. I prefer small sushi rolls. I will continue to eat here and find myself ordering at least once every two weeks and that is because I have to stop myself from ordering twice every week...LoL Thank you Hanami! I had a bad experience after my initial post but I still recommend this restaurant because that was like my 9th meal from them and sometimes things happen. Last Sunday 3/19 I ordered Veggie Tempura, Crispy Calamari, and Miso soup. Ordered for pickup and told to pick up in 20 min. I live 5 minutes away so I was exactly there before 20 min. When I got home the tempura and calamari were not crisp and not as hot as they should've been if my order was indeed ready in 20 min. I think my order was ready sooner and sat around a little. Stopped by here after visiting the Oakland zoo which is a short drive away. Free street parking only. Restaurant is small, bright, and cute with nice Asian decor. The food is beautifully presented and fresh. Price is reasonable for the area. The tonkatsu with miso butter ramen was tasty- the pork had a nice sweet outer layer and the noodles were nicely cooked. The teriyaki salmon set came with two gyoza, miso soup, imitation crab, tamago with seaweed, and potato salad. Everything tasted good and was not too salty. The poke salad was also a large portion and fresh. Food all came at a reasonable time and service was good. Got a coupon at the end for 10 percent off lunch next time which is nice. read more

We ordered poke bowls take out. The bowls themselves were good, lots of food. The fish was good. I loved all the options available to add to the bowls. But we both ordered poke sauce but we both got none. My husband said hold up bowl and look at rice, maybe the few discolored areas were sauce. I doubt it. I could see and taste no sauce. What a lovely addition to the North San Leandro dining scene! We were very sad to see Noodles Pho Me go, but the new owners have respected the space and brought new flavors missing from this area. There are numerous ramen, poke bowl and sushi places scattered around town, but none in walking distance from us, so we are delighted that have they not only set up shop here, but brought quality Japanese cuisine as well. The space is light and airy, with blonde wood, muted pastel colors and comfortable seating. The owners have lovingly decorated the space with good taste and a light hand. We walked in on a Tuesday night, picked our table and were given prompt and courteous attention. I ordered bento box (hard to find at dinner time around here), my husband a bowl of ramen, and we shared an order of karaage. Portions are more than generous, for very good value. All the food was excellent and beautifully presented. The miso soup and ramen broth were savory and flavorful, unlike the overly salted broths that will shrivel your tongue at too many other Japanese restaurants. My salmon sashimi was buttery and sweet, again in large portions. No wasteful break apart chopsticks here to my great relief. And soy sauce came in a handsome spouted vessel that by some miracle didn't drip all over the table as is typical. The poke menu looked very tempting, as did other unexpected items on the menu. With the check came a coupon for 20% off our next dine-in tab to use by month's end. We are so happy to welcome Hanami here and we plan to be regulars. I had an errand near San Leandro, not a place I'd been before. So I looked on Yelp for a place to eat lunch. Hanami had excellent reviews, and poke, always a favorite. Unlike the usual poke scoop shops, you order at the counter and they prepare it in the kitchen. When I paid the waiter handed me a coupon with a discount for a future lunch. I handed it back, saying no thanks, I don't live in this area. Then my poke bowl arrived. The photos had been beautiful; and the meal was not only beautiful but completely delicious. Super fresh fish and a generous portion. All the ingredients top quality and perfectly prepared. I really like this spot. Definitely not on the most appealing street, but looks can deceive. The inside is cutely decorated like a place I would hang out to have a nice after tea and lunch/dinner. It was really quiet inside for lunch, but I thoroughly enjoyed the poke there. Lots of yummy fresh toppings, sauce was not overly heavy and the fish was fresh. (maguro/escolar). Really cute interiors! Kind of reminds me of Japanese home style restaurants in Tokyo. But, the poke was not Tokyo quality. I smelled the poke before it even got to my table. Overwhelmingly fishy-smelling that I couldn't even dig in. I didn't even touch it and just asked for a refund, which, to their credit, was accepted. The service here isnt great, i came in and had a table for two(waiting for my gf) i did get sat down pretty quickly but once sat, ive been sitting for 20 mins without no acknowledgment, no asking if i want water, i wanted to get an order going so when my gf got here we can eat, nothing, no eye contact from waitress, it just sucks to not even get water or even asked for order appetizers, the food was good but the service is bad. expect to be ignored. read more

I woke up craving Poke bowl today so I searched on Yelp and saw this new restaurant that just opened today. I decided to give it a try. I have visited Hawaii multiple times over the years but I've never had a poke bowl in the Bay Area that is as good as the one they have in the Hawaii...until today. so then. . i saw this new place had opened . where there had been a pho shop. and then i found out it was a Japanese shop. thuds i looked them up here on yelp. and Bamm! i ordered, takoyaki, hamachi kama and tempura veggies. the takoyaki is spot on! and taste marvelous! the tempura is nice and golden wonderful as well. the Edamame with the garlic sauce, is ok if you like garlic and i do! so yum yum there. but the star of my meal the hamachi kama, was a bit of a let down. . yeah. as it was a very dinky serving. maybe this one other place spoiled me. cause compared to them, this was dinky small. i like how and what they did to the inside. it is nice cozy and clean, nicely lit up. i will god back to try some of the other dishes. but for now, just 4 stars. read more

Took the family (4) for dinner and we ordered the gyoza, agadashi tofu, 3 different ramen (don't remember what the kids ordered) and the poke bowl. I had the Hanami special broth with tonkatsu ramen, and it was delicious. The meat was so tender and flavorful (most ramen places the meats are salty and dry) can't stop thinking about it. The Hanami special miso broth was very tasty . Tried the hubbys poke bowl that was the bomb too. Loved the crunchy bits and the rice and salad ratio was just right for me. Last but not least, enjoy the decor and wooden fork and pointy chopsticks . Something about those super pointy chopsticks, was enjoyable to use. A gem of a Japanese restaurant, and my go-to for neighborhood ramen and poke. I feel lucky to live about a mile away. Consistently great dishes -- fresh fish, spicy flavorful broth, tender meat, etc. My young kids even share the Combo A and love the variety (the star and heart shaped rice "balls" are so great!) The atmosphere is very comfortable and cute. They have a shelf of little knick knacks and figures alone with a bunch of cute lights. The food quality for their poke was pretty good, but some of the things such as mango and kimchi are extra. The quality of service was very good.
