I love this place. The first time I had banh mi was here. Soon after, I tried Nicky's, a place in borough park, the other Hanco's, and Bahn Mi in Williamsburg. Hanco's in Park Slope is definitely the best. My only complaint is that their spicy-ness is not consistent. I always ask for spicy and sometimes it's really spicy and other times not spicy at all. It's usually somewhere in between. I guess it depends on the jalapeno placement and how much spicyness the cooks think I can really handle. Regardless, it's always tasty. I've only tried the classic and the pork sandwich. I'm not a big fan of pate so I usually get the classic without it. Everytime I go there, I try to will myself to order a different sandwich, but those two are so good that I haven't been successful yet. I have tried the summer rolls and the thai iced tea which are both great. Part of the reason I like this location better than the Boerum Hill Hanco's is that they have thai iced tea here. While the sandwiches are still the same -- totally serviceable but not brilliant bahn mi -- Hanco's has upped its game considerably in the speed department. Somehow, there are fewer people working here than before and, yet, the sandwiches emerge from the kitchen far faster. read more

Their tofu sandwich is as good as it gets. and its a nice place to sit for a while too.

I asked my boyfriend to pick me up a sandwich and drop it off at my job for work. I ran out to greet him and get it from the car and as soon as I opened the door the entire car smelled like garbage. I quickly asked "what the hell is that smell" to which he replied "it's the sandwiches!!!". I was starving and grabbed the sandwich and ran back into my job. Soon my entire job filled with the smell of garbage!!! Horrible, horrible HORRIBLE garbage smell. Like a NYC garbage day on the hottest day of the summer. Needless to say I was completely embarrassed to bring such a scent into the office and even inspected to sandwich to see if it was rotten in some way. It looked fine but the smell was so strong that it lingered!!!!!! Even walked into a meeting to people asking "what is that smell??!!!??!, what did someone leave out??? Where is it coming from???" So I've only been to this location of Hanco's, I hear the other original one is better, but this one is only a few blocks from me. This was my third time or so. I really want to love the place, but I'm pretty sure I just like it. The service is okay, nothing special, order from the nice counter people wait with your number and then go pick up your tray. I am not a big fan of their beverage selection, I really wish their ice green tea was better, I don't believe it is regular green tea, something else is in it. The banh mi-ish sandwiches are damn good, especially the pork one. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken sandwich, I think the pork is the way to go. The bread is a bit softer than what you get at Banh Mi Saigon (I think they are a pretty decent reference point) in soho, and I love the fact that there is butter in the sandwiches, but the prices are pretty steep for the amount of food. For a drink and a sandwich plus a buck or two for tip you will cross the $10 mark. I feel like you can feed 2 off one of the banh mi from Saigon and it only costs 4 bucks. But alas being that it is only a few blocks from my house and is the only banh mi option I am aware of in the neighborhood I will definitely continue going. read more

This is one of my favorite place for Vietnamese sandwich and bubble tea. Price is right and the products are good. It's a casual place where you can bring kids without worrying much too. I highly recommend for take out or eat in for a quick lunch or dinner. I gave 4 star as they could do a bit better job to improve their noodle soup. Though the noodle soup is definitely eatable, it is not living up to their high standard of yummy sandwiches. So, you probably should order sandwiches if you are not craving for noddle soup. read more

tasty classic banh mi. it was missing pate, though, which is unusual. the tofu sandwich is also good. they also give you lots of pickled radish/carrot, and the bread is crisp. a bit pricey for banh mi though ($6.50), but that is pretty standard for the area. the people behind the counter were very pleasant. and thai iced tea was good. perhaps a bit too sweet, but I didn't prefer it that way. it was the perfect park food to-go. i would come here if I were seeing a show in prospect park again. read more

Went here to eat pho on a rainy day. Not the most pleasant place to eat. Kind of grimy and not a good atmosphere at all. Pho is $9.50 and for this price I should have just went to Hai Noi down the street that is a very cute restaurant around the same price for pho. Anyways, pho was overall good but had a lot of fat chunks in it from the beef. read more

I eat here all the time. Food is great. Unfortunately on my latest visit the store manager refused to honor my punch card since the stamp was worn down from being in my wallet and he couldn't verify that I was entitled to my free pho. Luckily Henry's is right nearby and just as good. read more

I've been to Hanco's a few times now and have loved the Banh Mi's each time i've gone. When you ask for spicy they give you a reasonably spicy sandwhich. The grilled chicken banh mi is outstanding and i crave it entirely too often. The regular banh mi is also excellent and the service is always lovely. Food's made to order and is incredibly fresh. Prices aren't nearly as low as Sunset Park but then again, you're not in Sunset Park so that's to be expected. Great place. read more

Five stars for their sandwiches. My hubby and I always get the grilled pork and fake (vegetarian) pork and think they are the best in the neighborhood after trying the lot. Not best in the world, and for purists, the pricetag may seem steeper than the authentic $3 joints we used to frequent in CA, but still damn good. Since I work from home, I also do a lot of working lunches from their shop with free wifi. Hancos definitely beats out Lotus on the vegetarian sandwiches, but Lotus wins on the Pho and Vermicelli salads. read more

The Bergen Street Hancos was my favorite place on the planet...those Spicy Original Bahn Mi sandwiches were like crack and I probably turned dozens of people on to them. It was (is?) this perfection on a bun! So, when they opened on 10th and 7th (right in my 'hood!!) I was beyond excited! The problem is, the new location completely sucks. The sandwiches are totally wrong, the counter staff is horrendous, and the amount of waste they generate (styrofoam and plastic everywhere, paper menus for dining in) is inexcusable. I'd turn a blind eye to all of it, however, if the food tasted good. It makes me want to cry that they took my absolute favorite food on the planet (the bahn mi and the salad roll) and just can't execute it the way they do at the original location. read more

A little room for improvement, but still excellent casual takeout food (you can eat in but the tables aren't always the cleanest and you might get a store full of yakking pre-teens). One thing they could do better is designate the order line, waiting area and pick-up area. Right now everyone mill around in the space in front of the register, and you end up having to ask everyone in sight, "are you in line?" or "did you order yet?" when you come in. Annoying. How about a painted line on the floor delineating the Order line? read more
