My wife and I visited Hansel's Homemade Ice Cream after having dinner in the area. Oh. My. Goodness. Absolutely the best ice cream that has ever been in my mouth! And let's just say that I have had a fair amount of ice cream grace my tastebuds, which are located inside the depths of my mouth. I had an ice cream called "Monkey Business" which, as the name suggests, was flavored with real bananas. My wife ordered an ice cream called "Birthday Cake" which in her words, was the best ice cream that she has ever had! The employees that served us had a smile, a friendly attitude and a pleasant demeanor as they quickly served up the delectable frozen dairy delight! I don't know who "Handel" is, but whomever they are, I'm certain they would be extremely proud of the product and service that welcomed us on this blessed day! Cheers! read more

I have only been here once. The quality and creaminess was consistent with quality ice cream yet nothing to special quality wise. they definitely have some interesting flavors. our party of 4 enjoyed sharing the interesting flavor experience. Glad they're there, needed an ice cream store in a non-campus location. They consistently have at least 1 non dairy option-- it'd be great if they offered more or the same one consistently so we'd know it was worth visiting. The small is ridiculously large with 4 scoops-- and they won't let you split the flavors -- one flavor or nothing for four whole scoops even if there's no one else in the shop. That's kinda of silly. My dairy free crowd wanted a DF coconut/df orange so it'd taste like a creamsicle and they couldn't do it for us, so I wound up DIY switching my own scoops right after we got them. Visited Handel's yesterday and after a few spoonfuls I realized the Chocolate Pecan didn't have enough chocolate flavor to notice it was anything but cold and sweet. Also, maybe it was the light, but the color of the Chocolate Pecan was a pale brown, I noticed that my table mate's cone of the same flavor looked pale as well. I got myself a double scoop dish with Praline Pecan for the other flavor and that was what I expected. As for service, my party of three beat the rush so were served quickly. There were at least three workers behind the counter and made things go smoothly. The other mid-afternoon folks had an incredibly long line to contend with causing one patron to try to lean against the Tensa-barrier and tumble to the ground. Nothing can be done about such things with the present pandemic social distancing rule, but it was clearly not a pleasant event for that person. Well, they're finally open and we finally got the chance to hit this spot up! At the time of this review, they have only been open for ONE week. I've been waiting for it ever since the news hit that we were going to have a new ice cream shop in Eugene. I had never heard of Handel's, but it seems like it's quite popular in other areas. My wife and I stopped by today on our way to take some photos at Fall Creek Lake. We were lucky to walk in when it was completely EMPTY. As we were walking out, the place had started to form a small line. My wife ordered one scoop of their "birthday cake" ice cream. I was really in the mood for cookie dough but the vanilla and oreo sounded good. I said this out loud to the girl at the register and she suggested I order the Oree-Dough! I hadn't event noticed that on the menu. I was able to get BOTH of the things I wanted in ONE. I thought it was nice that she offered it when she noticed I didn't know which one to choose. She could've just stayed quiet and let me figure it out. The prices are fair, given that they're homemade, popular in other places, and they're located in a nice area. We were a little bummed out that we couldn't sample anything, but I know...COVID. Still, it would be nice if they could somehow find a safe way to offer samples. Either way, I was still very happy with my visit! We really enjoyed our ice creams and we'll definitely be back to try other flavors! The ice cream was creamy and not extremely sweet. It had a good balance of flavors. I also liked their wall art. It's a good spot to take a picture with your ice cream and tag them on Instagram! I'll update this review if for any reason I have to change my rating, but I'm sure I won't have to! :) read more

I was excited to have another ice cream shop that I can easily bike to with my kids. Unfortunately the flavors we tried were overly sweet and artificial. I'd say 'whatever, the kids like it,' but they also don't know how to pack a cone. Both kids had their scoops fall off, requiring parental intervention. read more

Great flavor and great icecream. They charge more for extra thick but milkshake was watery from the start. Icecream was tiny scoops. But worst of all is cashier was wearing gloves but touched credit cards, adding machine, ice-cream scooper, cups, and all. Cross contamination was disgusting. yesterday I went to handles to try out the new flavors i have been hearing about on insta. peppermint bark!! i was so excited! when i walked in, i was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and state of the store... sometimes those ice cream stores can be a little dirty if you know what i mean. anyways, i digress, Lauren, who was at the register when i walked in, greeted me with a large smile and wave. she was extremely helpful when i was inquiring about the holiday flavors and provided me with great advice and suggestions. i will say that i was a little embarrassed to be asking info about all the flavors but Lauren put me at ease! so helpful and nice, and to add, she scooped my ice cream in 3 perfect scoops! none of the scoops fell off the cone which ALWAYS happens to me. anyways, great experience, would recommend. read more

So I loved the ice cream and the service. We take or granddaughter there often. But this last time she asked if she could get a cheery like in there photo. I looked for the item on there board and it was available so I asked for them to put one on it. When I got to the registry to pay I was charged 2.50 for one cherry. I couldn't belive it. I love handles ice cream. Always have and always will. Tonight was probably one of the worst experiences I've had at handles. I completely understand that it's Saturday and the line was long, but the attitude we experienced by the staff was awful. After ordering our first item the cashier didn't say a single word to us, just walked away and started scooping. This happened again after the second item. We had 3 items total and the first words spoken by the cashier was "that it?". I put in my time working customer service and I know that we all have off nights but I was so off put by the behavior. It's such a beautiful location, on a beautiful night and it truly take zero effort to smile or be a kind person. Plus when you treat a customer like they're an inconvenience they tend to not return. The ice cream is great however, the last time I was here I was able to get a little tiny cone with a small scoop of ice cream. It was perfect as I can't eat very much ice cream without getting sick due to the milk, but non-dairy options just aren't the same. This time when I went, the girl at the counter told me they were only allowed to sell those scoops to little kids and I would have to buy a full scoop.
