Walt is a great guy and I haven't seen him for many years as I used to stop here often. Anyhow, my son's sister asked for a cone and wanted Vanilla, but she got a chocolate one just like my son did, I think she was confused when Walt asked if she wanted the same thinking he meant the cone, and she said yes but she was afraid to speak up. Anyways finding out she can't have chocolate ice cream after it was melting I asked if he was able to get her vanilla and has a chocolate allergy. He took the cone to the sink, emptied the ice cream out and rinsed the cone with water. Instead of just getting a new cone. When he gave it to us he said you may want to eat it it's getting soggy. She started to eat that cone and found a few small black hairs. She didn't mention that to me until after we left. I think it was also because she had a Spider-Man shirt on and he said here ya go buddy thinking she was a boy. Then instead of asking if I wanted something he put the scooper in the sink. I said if I could get a dish of ice cream too please... and I get you got to make your money for your own little business but $24 for 3 ice creams was really steep!

After some friendly & informative discussion w/one of the two owners, I ordered the coconut (of course!) & vanilla custards with chocolate sauce (house made), toasted coconut & almonds. They also serve a root beer float of vanilla custards paired with Henry's Root Beer (which is my favorite) so I'll be back for that as well as to try the chocolate custard and the coconut & vanilla with other sauces & toppings. If you're unfamiliar w/frozen custard, the owners can & will explain to you what differentiates it from ice cream but definitely try it! The bright yellow & blue cart is easy to see but for reference the cart is across from the fire station. That made me smile because my late father was a firefighter many decades ago and one of my fond childhood memories is when the crew would make home made ice cream & invite their families to come eat it w/them. I hope the firefighters there are all customers. I know my father would have been!

However, even saying the name brings on a childish grin (and possibly happy tears) to my eyes! It doesn't hurt that their key lime tart is my favorite dessert not called sorbet of all time. Oh, yes, they also have sorbet, and while it isn't on Wanderlust's level, I don't care.
