Saba and the team at Hands on Care are quite simply the best you could ask for in the bay area. I had a 4-corner fusion and scaphoid excision on my left wrist, an injury that has plagued me for over 7 years, and Saba was able to regain over 90 degrees of total motion for me! Her attitude was just as intense as the injury I suffered and she REFUSED to let me, or any of her patients, to take the easy road through therapy which was critical for me to hold myself accountable to doing the exercises on a daily basis. I know Saba reads these reviews and takes them to heart. I am certain nothing I say is a surprise. I had elbow surgery in late February and started PT shortly after. Saba is not the easiest or friendliest gal. PT is hard and she reflects the attitude required to do it correctly. She pushes hard because that's her JOB! Surgery is easy. Finding the will to bend when you know how bad it is going to hurt takes nerve to endure and a strong personality to hear the moans and groans of those enduring it. I had 25 appointments and never missed one. So it's incumbent on the patient to want to do the work. In this instance, No pain No gain. Saba knows her craft, her staff is very cool and very helpful. I am not certain what kind of experience people are looking for when it comes to PT. Hands on Care will provide great therapy if you are not afraid to work at it. I broke my wrist and it was so bad that the hospitall technician's eyes bugged out and she gasped when she saw the x-rays. So I had surgery and a plate was installed which my doctor said was all he could do, but I still couldn't use my hand. I couldn't play my violins--I own five of them. And I couldn't play my guitars--and I own three of them. And I couldn't even take a shower very well. I had no practical use of my hand, and it hurt, and I was out of work for a year. It depressed the heck out of me. But Saba was my therapist, and because she was my therapist, what I thought was impossible actually happened. I got back the use of my hand. My case was a tough one and I believe if I had gone to a good therapist instead of a great one, I'd still have no use of my hand, or limited use at best. Saba is probably the best hand therapist in Northern California. Her training, her knowledge, her persistence, her professionalism are absolutely exceptional. It's no wonder that her reputation is stellar and that she's internationally recognized. If you want the best, you go to Saba. If you need the best, as I did, Saba is the only one you should go to. You have to ask yourself, how badly do you want back the full use of your hand. If it means a lot to you, go to Saba. If she's booked up, get on her waiting list and see somebody else while you wait. I was eager to start PT after breaking my finger. I called after seeing my MD, on a Tuesday and left a message to make an appointment. No one called me back that week. Although, Jay, will insist a message was left on Friday. My cell phone had no record of a voicemail from their facility. I have been going to Hands on Care for for about 7 months now, for pre and post shoulder surgery therapy. If you want to get better, this is the place to go. I got three different shoulder surgeon's opinions, and when I asked about therapy all three highly recommended Hands on Care. I find it a great environment. Of all my appointments I dont recall ever getting a late start beyond 10 minutes and that was usually because someone occasionally showed up late for their appt. All the staff is super friendly, and they have been consistent in my time there. I have always received the attention i need and Saba and staff always made time to answer any questions i have, and in the beginning there were a lot of questions.. Recovery from surgery is not fun, therapy can be tough and it probably takes for more than anyone of us want to believe. This place offers a nice balance of pushing you when needed, but also giving you the encouragement you need on the tough days when you feel like progress is slowed. One of the things that I have enjoyed is the fact that I can collaborate a bit with others with similar injuries while I am there. We are able to encourage each other a bit and share experiences in the recovery process. I guess some reviewers looked at that as a lack of privacy. They are working on hands, elbows and shoulders, it does not bother me if someone overhears a description of my rotator cuff. In summary, my experience has been about as positive as post surgical therapy can be. I broke my left wrist so I had surgery and a plate was installed. I had no practical use of my hand, it hurt constantly, and I was out of work for a year. My doctor said I should get used to the fact that my hand would never be the same again. A life with constant pain? A life without playing the violin? It depressed the hell out of me. But then I had the good fortune of going to Hands On Care. After a long and demanding period of therapy, I now have the full use of my hand. Once again I can play music. I can take a shower and button my shirt just as before and with no pain. My case was a tough one and I strongly believe if I had gone to simply a good therapist instead of a great one, I'd still have no use of my hand, or limited use at best. But Saba happened to be a great therapist. She's probably the best in Northern California. She is extraordinarily skilled and professional. I'm convinced that because I went to her instead of somebody else, I can now use my hand again. read more

Well I am not surprised by the two recent reviews. This place has went downhill, and fast! Always short staffed but no wonder why. I have been a patient on & off for about a year and I have seen 2 office mgrs leave, multiple staffs & therapists. There is a reason for the rotation and I feel very sorry for the lady's left there with her. Like Chris below, I have seen her speak very poorly to and about her staff / previous staffs and other patients! very unprofessional and catty. After the cramped fiasco I experienced recently, I will not be returning OR recommending her services. Although she may be skilled in her field, she is severely lacking in the personality and people dept which is essential when you work one on one with people. They are constantly short staffed, and even if you are walking in the door 1 min after you appointment you are getting a call? I end up waiting 10-15 mins for them to even get me started but I get a call for 1 min. Then I get shuffled around for 1-2 hrs depending on how many other people they are trying to treat. I have already notified my dr to not refer anyone else there, not worth the hassle. read more

I went to Hands On Care for therapy on my hand (dog bite). From my very first visit I was impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff from the therapists to the billing person. Saba and her staff are great. Healthcare is as much about human connection as it is science and therapeutic expertise. The team is always cheerful (maybe give the team a few minutes for the coffee to kick in if its a really, really early appointment), on time and friendly. All three therapists (Saba, Stella and Jen (at the Samaritan campus)) are great. They helped me with 8 weeks of therapy after surgery on a radius broken in a soccer match. I'm back to normal and look forward to my next visit and repeat offender t-shirt on my next run-in with gravity and the ground. I recommend this clinic! read more

I will not recommend this place for a few reasons. The owner is rude to the patients and even more rude to the employees. I happened to talk to a few employees and they were not happy with the owner's attitude by yelling at them and putting them down in front of everyone. The physical therapists were just fine and I have no complaints about the therapists. However, the place is less than clean. The exercise tools were dirty and old. They have this tool that they use to re-roll the "elastic bandages." They put one end of the bandage on the tool, while the rest of bandage is on the dirty floor. The rolled up bandage is then used to wrap on the patients hand or arm. I mentioned it to them that what they are doing is not sanitary. They acknowledged that was not sanitary and promised to do something about it, but never did anything to remedy that. I could go on, but this should give an idea. Also, make sure you get a receipt after you pay them. My co-pay was $10 and I always paid in cash. They told me that I had missed three payments and after searching their records they found one payment, but not the other two. They also charged me $25 for rescheduling my appointment. I had to reschedule my 10 AM appointment for 12/10/18 and gave them a notice on 12/7/18 at 10 AM. They told me that my notice was less than 24 hours. If you do the math, the notice was more than 24 hours. I went ahead and paid them and told them to cancel my rest of the appointment. I will never go back to this place. read more

I've been to several hand therapists over the years and Saba's the best. I've had to go many times due to my severe arthritis, which causes painful flares. I've seen her for flares in both hands involving my thumbs and fingers as well as my elbows and shoulders. The last flare I had was in my elbow and I stupidly went to a therapist close to my house because I could hardly drive, instead of going to Saba. They actually made me worse! When I saw Saba my elbow was so bad my arm was completely immobile and I was in great pain. She was amazing; in just one visit she greatly restored my range of motion and reduced my pain! It's always fun to go in there too. Everyone is laughing and it's a really fun atmosphere. I always miss Saba and the staff when I've stopped going. read more

I found a new surgeon and Saba Kamal. I have been receiving hand therapy from Saba the last 6 months. My hand is almost fully recovered thanks to Saba's expertise and therapy. If i could give this place less than 1 star i would. This place is absolutely terrible. DO NOT GO HERE !!! First off i walk in to not even be greeted for over 10 minutes. Then i sit and wait for another 35 min. Once they finally call me in the therapist has no idea who i am and start going to work on my wrist which i had just had surgery on a month prior. I was only suppose to be going n for an evaluation. I had to stop her from proceeding. Then she asks , ohh , who are you and whats wrong ? I left before the session was over and told them that i would not be coming back and yet they still billed me for services that were never done that they said were done. To get more money i suppose. I spoke with the office manager Ashlin and she did not even care at all about my concerns. She brushed them off as if i was not even a care in the world. She then told me that if i did not pay the remaining bill that she didn't care and that it would go to collections if i did not pay it. No one in there has their head on straight and if you listen to any reviews, please save yourself the trouble and find another therapy office. read more

I could barely move my hand/finger after my surgery for carpel tunnel and trigger finger. I couldn't believe how they worked on me and I actually got the hand & finger to work again. It does seem way too busy as though they over book and the therapist that works on you works on 2-4 people at a time and gets distracted easily. I think the care they provide works for everyone though. read more

Hands On Care comes highly recomended in my book. My first encounter with Saba Kamal at HOC was back in May 2009. I had broken my 5th metacarpal, and after the cast came off, my doctor recommended Hands On Care for therapy to get my hand functioning again. Saba and her staff were pleasent to work with which made for a speedy recovery. In August 2017 I had a very traumatic horse accident, fracturing and dislocating both my left wrist and shoulder. This resulted in surgery with plates and pins to hold things in place during the healing process. I contacted Saba at HOC to begin therapy. When I walked in to the office, the staff were very nice and attentive. Saba remembered me from 2009. I'm eight months into a very long and slow recovery, and have gone from having very little function and limited motion in my left shoulder and wrist, to having full function of my wrist and 75% function in my shoulder. Still working with my doctor on my shoulder injury with on going therapy at HOC. As my doctor has indicated, my injury will take time to heal (Year +) and to be patient. Knowing this I'm greatful to have Saba and her team at HOC be the ones to help me though my recovery. They are fun to be around, and are always trying to make thier patients experience a pleasant one. Look forward in continued therapy and fun times at HOC. If you want someone who is going give you a nice and easy PT experience, Saba is not for you. If you want someone who is going to push you to the limits but will help you get better fast, Saba is wonderful. I had an injury that took more than 2 years to get it fixed (surgery) but as a result of waiting that long I developed horrible tendinitis. In 3 weeks of going to Saba and doing (most of) my exercises at home, I have seen huge improvement in that short time. My strength is up from 65% to 85% and my range of motion is up from about 60% to 90%. I love her work and i recommend her to anyone who is serious about getting better and getting better fast. Plus, there is good comic relief in her office while you are getting worked on. read more

I can't say enough about Saba and her staff. Saba is, professional, straight forward, but has a since of humor. She knows her field well. Saba looks at you and can tell when you can handle the exercises and when you are NOT doing well, making sure, in my case I did not pass out. You can tell that Saba has a passion for her work and wants you well. If the therapy isn't working she spends time finding out what will give you better results. If you are committed to getting better for hand, shoulder, or elbows I don't think you could go wrong. If I was writing by how I'm feeling at the moment I would've given them a one star, but as annoyed as I am I need to be fair and give them what they deserve. The doctor therapists and aids are so sweet, friendly, patient, professional, and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed every appointment, it's like going to a friends house and just chitchatting well taking care of a medical issue that needs to be tended to. The reason for my frustration is that I planned my appointments around the factthat I am starting a new job and I would like to have this taken care of before I start. I made it very clear to my therapist several days ago when she checked to see if there is an appointment available this morning because I was seeing my other Doctor Who needed the results by 2 PM my appointment time, and she reassured me that that wasn't a problem and it would be there. I got to my second doctors appointment and no progress reports were sent so I called the office, I was told to just tell my doctor that it's the same and I need surgery, I felt a little confused because that was the whole point of going to therapy so that he could get an opinion after my therapy to see if he needs to proceed with surgery. Unfortunately that did not happen so now I'm waiting in the wins and will be starting my job on Monday most likely before I could get any kind of resolution and it's very frustrating considering I started this whole process last October to make sure that if I did need surgery it would all be taken care of before I started looking for jobs and now here we are. Oh well maybe if I wasn't so organized it would've worked out differently, I really feel like communication is the best way to go if you want something accomplished properly and in a timely manner, but this time I guess it just didn't work. I began seeing Saba for carpal tunnel-like issues - pain that had extended to my thumb, wrist, forearm and shoulder. I spend a lot of time on the computer and doing intensive work with my hands, and was scared I needed surgery. Saba gave me practical, helpful advice for setting up my work station properly, and adjusting my daily routines so that I will do less damage to my body long-term. She worked diligently on my arms & hands during the weeks I saw her for intensive therapy, and put me on an upper-body strengthening regimen that has changed how I view exercise and taking care of my body. After seeing many therapists over the years for re-occurring tendonitis (that was so bad that I went to school and changed careers), I can't believe the HUGE difference and effectiveness in Saba's therapy techniques. She explained the "why's" and "how's" of her techniques and also of the old techniques I had been taught which were actually aggravating my condition. My condition improved so much faster than with the many other therapists, I'm so thankful for her help!
