The PT services themselves were fine with the exception of a one time experience with a junior staff that aggravated my pain more than improved it. The PT staff are all very nice. However, this review is due to the new ownership. I wanted to obtain the previous at-home PT exercises/program but no one answers the phone and no one ever calls back (even text messages are not replied to) which is extremely frustrating. On the other hand, they were quick to call back to schedule something (and take my money). I will not be supporting a place that is only interested in my out of network payment and not the interest of their patients. read more

While it is unfortunate that I have had to come here on two different occasions for my crumbling body, I am thankful that I have this place to go to! Ayesha treated me for some pain I had postpartum and she validated a lot of things that other providers had dismissed. She helped me feel seen as a whole, which was refreshing during that part of my life where everyone else was telling me the pain and changes were all a normal part of motherhood. For my current situation, she did a thorough assessment and provided clear explanations and guidance on what is happening in my body and how we will tackle my plan of care. The staff are also on it with contacting my physician and keeping track of the referral information and helping me schedule my follow-ups in a friendly way. I would not select this physical therapy location due to the new owners. I was a patient for several years and the previous owner sold his business. When I came in for my appointment, I was notified they cancelled all my future appointments due to the new owners. It appears the new owners elected not to contract with certain insurance companies, even though I have a POS plan. In addition, when I called to speak with the business office no one called me back or responded to my emails. read more

Staff there is really good, and had good experience with the PTs. BUT!! the front desk is the WORST! I had the most ridiculous conversations with Esmeralda Navarro! She first told me that I cannot schedule more than 12 visits because other patients also need the opportunity to see PTs there. BUT hey I have my doctor's referral and I also need CARE! My doctor said i should see PT twice a week for three months! and today when I called to reschedule my appointments and she told me that she has no time to reschedule because she has a patient there. I mean, hello?? I'm also a patient!! and even you have other MORE important or EMERGENCY things there, you could at least ask me to HOLD!! I have found another therapist elsewhere because the receptionist is too short with people and I always have to leave a message. She never seems to answer the phone. I had knee surgery for a torn meniscus. SVPT was able to get me in right away. Everyone there was so helpful and friendly. My PT Sheeba did careful evaluations and gave me exercises to do there and at home to improve strength and flexibility in my knee. Thanks to her I'm stronger and will be getting back to judo practice soon. The facility is clean and roomy. And if you're a WW2 buff, there's lots of great artwork and memorabilia to look at while working out. I'm so thankful to have found SVPT. read more

They Had My Back..... Pros: Really good people. A team effort. Cons: Building is old. Parking can be tight. Stars: - Overall: 4 1/2 - Location: 5 - Interior: 3 1/2 - Therapists: 5 - Assistants: 5 - Process: 5 - Cleanliness: 4 - Front Office: 5 - Scheduling: 5 - Atmosphere: 5 - Parking: 4 It was bound to happen sooner or later. Surgery. With 2 herniated discs in my lower back and non-stop pain running down both legs, I could no longer ignore the situation and say "it will go away". After MRIs, x-rays and consultations with my neurosurgeon who I've seen for 6 years due to neck issues ( don't even ask ), I had 4 hour lumbar spine surgery on November 12th 2015. My doctor recommended waiting 2 months after surgery before starting physical therapy because the muscles in that area needed time to heal. Meanwhile, I met with a few therapists in my health plan, read many Yelp reviews and decided on South Valley Physical Therapy ( SVPT ). - Location: SVPT is along Blossom Hill Road about 2 blocks east of the Oakridge Shopping Center in an older 2 story office building. Their office is on the ground floor toward the Oakridge side of the building. - Interior: Functional. The reception desk is just inside the entrance to the right with a small waiting area to the left. Administrative offices branch off the walkway toward the area used for physical therapy. That's a large room with various pieces of equipment normally found in a gym with 7 smaller private rooms for individual therapy around the perimeter. - Therapists: Excellent. I mainly worked with Tom, the owner. He handled my initial one hour consultation and supervised the work done by the assistants during most of my 15 visits ( I was authorized 18 visits by my doctor, but I missed one due to illness and the final 2 due to a flare-up of lower back pain ). Tom not only has knowledge of anatomy, but can relate that information in layman's terms so his exercises and guidance have greater impact. - Assistants: Excellent. For the most part, I worked with Michelle and Will, but also with Melany and Kathy. They were all caring, helpful and knowledgeable. One of the best things about SVPT is if the person you're with is temporarily busy, the others step in to make sure the work gets done. - Process: It seems to work. After the initial consultation, I scheduled my visits. Each one started with a 10 minute warm-up on a stationary bike followed by exercises chosen for my particular condition. I started with 3 or 4 exercises and had new ones added during the first 6 or 7 visits so by the 8th appointment I had 10 different things to do. The assistants made sure I did them correctly and changed the order so my muscles experienced a variety of conditions. Each session ended with 15 minutes on a bed connected to a "stim" machine where electronic impulses got sent to parts of my lower back along 4 wires. You could add heat or cold packs to customize the impact desired. - Front Office: Friendly. Two young women man the front desk, Esmeralda and Marielle. They handle scheduling, maintain records, take your co-pay and answer questions. - Scheduling: Flexible. When I was almost done with my first 9 visits, I spoke with Esmeralda and had no problem arranging for 9 more on the dates and at the times I needed. - Billing: Since I just finished my last visit, I haven't received anything in the mail...yet. - Atmosphere: Neighborly. You'd expect to hear lots of moaning and groaning in a place with people recovering from injuries or surgery, but I mostly heard laughing and good natured joking. I'm sure people were in pain or at least discomfort much of the time ( I know I was ), but I rarely heard a complaint. Maybe that reflects the mood set by Tom or the team effort or the clients themselves, but I always left feeling better than when I arrived...and not just my back. - Parking: Enough. Located behind the building, it can get tight in the mid to late afternoon, but I always found a space. SVPT doesn't have the newest facility, the latest machines or a hip environment, but it gets the job done because it does the basics very well. read more

At 37 years old it turns out that I have fairly advanced arthritis in my knees. My doctors suggested physical therapy and handed me a list of places in my area. I was honestly dreading it. I randomly chose SVPT based on nothing other than location. Over the course of about two months I completed 10 1-hour-long PT sessions here and I have only positive things to say. The entire staff here is friendly, sensitive, and thoughtful. My knees are feeling better, and I feel that I have the tools to continue working on them at home. And I came to genuinely enjoy coming to PT to talk with the people who work here. If I ever need physical therapy again, I will definitely be coming back. read more

I really like this place. I was skeptical before starting, because of so-so experiences at other places prior. During a half hour initial consulatation with Tom I learned more about my knee issues than all the doctors and providers II had been to combined. He's a very smart guy and a good listener. The facilty is clean, well run and efficient. I've never waited more than two or three minutes to be seen. Everyone there greets me by name even though i don't actually meet with all of them. The staff are all friendly, knowledgable, and truly interested in making me feel good again. It's interesting to watch how seamlessly they work together-- seems to be the result of professionalism and respect between the employees and good organizational practices. Going to PT twice a week disrupts my very busy lifestyle by a measureable amount, but I like how this is going so much I'm going to ask my doctor for an exension of visits! read more

I want to begin with a caveat: I am a very, very difficult case. I have endured over 40 orthopedic procedures ranging from minor foot surgery to having both knee joints replaced, unrelated causes, before age 50 as well as having two separate fusions in my cervical spine - the last from C2-T2. The muscles in my neck and back are petrified; like rocks. The folks who work here always treated me very well, friendly, curious, and professional. All with whom I interacted were all very caring. Unfortunately there were none who were physically capable of achieving deep muscle penetration on me. My last two appointments actually left those muscles "angry", a very painful outcome but not in a "good way." I cannot emphasize enough that I have no complaint about anything other than a lack of brute force in the therapists which most people would consider a positive. read more

Rude and incompetent staff! I went their once with my husband. On the first appointment, they'd be very nice to you. But then they started to call and reschedule appointments without even our consent. I told them repeatedly that we won't be able to come again. Then I called them, left elaborate messages but they never returned calls. Infact, they sent me some "not coming on appointment fine" to pay! I called them again to confront that what is this bill for? When I'm not even asking you to schedule any further appointments as we are not interested. You schedule by yourselves, leave a message, don't even confirm with us AND THEN SEND US A WRITTEN BILL TO PAY?? The attendant was so RUDE!! I wish I could use some vocabulary here. She said, "We are not free for your bullshit. It's your fault you don't come or pick up your phone. You gotto pay the bill". And what not!! I fully recommend Tom Sawhill, physical therapist, and his experienced, skilled, attentive, thoughtful, and friendly staff. My orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Douglas Blatz, had referred me after repairing my fully ruptured quadriceps tendon just above the patella (from stepping/descending right over two steps at once, of all things.) At each visit Tom skillfully massaged the surgery area around the knee -- gently at first and then in subsequent visits using a metal plate with building force to break up scare tissue. Overall, he and his staff proceeded step-by-step and session-by-session through a regime of repetitive and increasingly challenging strength and balancing exercises to expand my knee's range of motion and strengthen my leg, hip, and other muscles while rebuilding my atrophied leg muscles and tendons (after immobilization in a leg brace for weeks). I felt confident in the therapy instruction and that Tom and his staff were assiduously listening and acting on my feedback while at the same time encouraging forward development. At my request, Tom gave me advice on exercises I could do at the gym or at home between therapy sessions. I found my PT sessions to be a highlight of my day. At my request, Tom once adroitly named and pointed out the fourteen leg muscles surrounding my knee. The facility has more than sufficient physical devices, equipment, and breakout rooms for doing the often humbling and sometimes fun therapeutic routines and exercises. ;-) Singular and artistic paintings on the walls of WW II battle scenes are fitting for building character. ;-) His front desk receptionist and office staff are friendly, cheerful, and amiable. Overall, my recovery was rapid compared to others with this injury. Now, five months post surgery, I'm back into swimming, hiking, running hilly trails (slowly), X-country skiing (flat), and using strength training equipment at the gym. All-in-all, I enthusiastically recommend Tom Sawhill and South Valley Physical Therapy without hesitation! read more

I have had back problems as long as I remember and have seen a fair number of PT's. When I hurt my back recently, I just called SVPT (I had been there 4 years earlier for treatment) and they got me in within a few hours! They even worked with my Physician to get the right paper work sent over. I could not even drive myself there, it was so bad, I could barely move. But after an hour under Tom's and his staff's hands, I walked out of there feeling a million times better. The front staff can come off as a bit cold. But if you watch them for some time (I tend to arrive 10 mins early for my appointments) you understand why: they are dealing with a lot of people and a good number of them are fairly obnoxious. The place is run well, the staff is professional and knows how to work with different personalities. They know what they are doing and are providing very helpful advise on how to get the right type of exercise, what to do and what not to do. I wish I'd never have to see a PT again off course, but I know I will. And there is no question where I will go again, these guys have earned my respect and trust. read more

South Valley is an amazing physical therapy place. My husband dislocated his knee, and had surgery. He has been going here for quite a while. Everyone who works there are extremely friendly, and happy. Its a very warm and inviting environment. Thomas, Josh, Melany, Reshma and Shannon are absolutely wonderful! They tailor workouts specifically for your needs, and do whatever they can to make sure your comfortable and not over-extending yourself. Your health is their top priority, and they make your physical therapy experience enjoyable, and spend as much time as you need on you, they dont rush you. I've been meaning to write a review for some time. Tom and the folks at south valley pt are the best! I am originally from another area and they made me feel like home. It's hard to have an injury and feel like you do not have the support of providers that care about you. I started care at svpt in aug 13 for an unknown back an neck problem which ended up being a c7 pinched nerve. Tom had a feeling that was the problem from day 1 but it took doctors 3 months to correctly diagnose and treat. After less than 6 visits my pain had gone away however I did not regain my strength. It was tom who urged me to seek additional care which later lead to acdf surgery. After surgery I went back to svpt. Even though I completed pt in December I still receive a call every few weeks just to check up on me and see how I am doing. They are a really special bunch of people and with their care I have improved 300%. Definitely recommend them! read more

Lack professionalism and never ran on time. Every appointment I arrived before my scheduled time and I was never acknowledged by reception. I explained that I already have a very qualified Personal Trainer, in decent physical shape, my Personal Trainer and I have already been working on strengthening my ankle, the assistant continued with very beginner "exercises" and even commented on my strength, clearly not listening to the client. When I said that I was very upset with them constantly running late, even after they had called to move an appointment up by 15 minutes, the therapist was rude and flippant stating "you expect me to jump when you come?" and started a long line of excuses as to why they are behind. read more

I have been to South Bay Physical Therapy several times now. Most recently they were a big help after my shoulder surgery. I had a Bankirt and rotator cuff repair by Dr. Blatz. The surgery went very well and I started physical therapy at South Valley Physical Therapy In Late April 2011. My rehab took about 4 months. The support and help I received at South Valley was excellent. Each week I was given exercises to do and specific movements to accomplish. At the start I could not lift my arm. Very quickly my arm was moving and I was able to steadily increase my range of motion and strength. I highly recommend South Valley PT to everyone who reads this review. The folks are very nice and continuously push and encourage their patients so they improve. I now have the full use of my shoulder again and I am quite thankful for the help provided by the staff - Tom, Melany, Reshma, Natalia, and Kathy. read more

I liked the place. Unfortunately I had to discontinue my treatment because the facility ran out of contract with my insurance provider. Dr Thomas Sawhill is great PT and educates you along the treatment. He explains things in detail and try to make this easy in terms of work out. Assistant staff is great too. I received excellent PT here for a torn leg muscle. Josh was very knowledgeable and always positive and supportive. He prescribed exercises that not only rehabilitated the injured muscle and got me back doing what I enjoy but also toned the surrounding muscles to help prevent the next injury. On my first visit to South Valley PT I literally could not walk and was in excruciating pain due to a lower back injury and mussel spasms. Tom received a call directly from my doctor requesting his services to help me and I was taken the same afternoon. Within 4 weeks I was able to return to work and within 6 weeks I'm now back to my regular training regimen. Tom not only worked on reducing my pain, but was masterful with timely introduction of tailored stretching and eventually core strengthening routines. I have been to various PT facilities before for other type injuries, but never have I had a therapist who could relate to my injury as much as Tom was able to. The front desk personnel, therapists, interns, etc. were extremely friendly and exhibited the utmost professionalism. The facilities, (reception area, workout/exercise area, and the individual rooms) were all clean and well maintained. South Valley PT is a family run business that made me feel like I was part of their family on my road to recovery.
