It was interesting walking through the doors and having to either walk up the stairs or take an elevator but come to a hallway of glass all around and seeing all the planes. It's been a long time since I was this disappointed in a resturant...and my wife, who is nowhere near as picky as I am when it comes to resturants, can't stop talking about how bad it was. Here's the details: Service/Atmosphere - 3 Stars - Service was very nice, server was attentive (although his recommendation left a lot to be desired, more on that later).Our table was FREEZING (lower right corner if you're looking out toward the planes, by the bar). Clean and nice interior, nothing spectacular. Food - 2 Stars - I ordered the Stroganoff based on the waiter's recommendation - I got a cup of minute rice, a tough chicken breast cut up in a bland red sauce and pik-nik sticks (https://pik-nik.com/). My wife got the Lobster Mac and Cheese - Publix BoGo pasta with two small pieces of lobster. My friends wife described her feta and shrimp pasta as "just OK" and my buddy's scallops were overdone. As my wife said, "I've had better food at Chili's in a real airport." In conclusion: I think I'm so disappointed because I had such high hopes - I thought this would be in my rotation of "nice" resturants we hit once a month (Valley Smoke, Palm Valley Fish Camp, Poppies, Cap's, Forgotten Tonic)....we won't be back. read more

We thought we had discovered a special gem in Hangar One. But our late January 2024 birthday dinner with niece and nephew was altogether disappointing, save the bar service from Pavl. My scallops, which I had pointedly requested be prepared medium rare, were overdone, and the replacements were the same. This week, I am happy to report, things seem back on an even keel. (No scallops on the menu, perhaps fortunately.) My husband LOVES the veal as it's reminiscent of many beloved German restaurants in Chicago back in the day. We now know to request more gravy as it was a bit skimpy, but the spaetzle was SUPER. I won't be hesitant to return next time. read more

This was my first time eating here - I understand that it used to be a popular burger joint, and they've recently upscaled. I'd heard that while the food is pretty good, the service was not all that. So let's get started! First of all - make a reservation. In this age of COVID-19, restaurants are not seating to capacity. We did not make a reservation, and had to wait half an hour. We went downstairs to the FBO lobby, which is much more comfortable than the tiny waiting area in the foyer and has much larger restrooms. Our server was very friendly, when we saw her. She quickly took our drink orders, and we had drinks about ten minutes later. It was a few more minutes until she took our food order. And then the wait began... we were a party of four, three of us family. Two stopped for lunch in a fly by heading to Orlando. We had to flag down our server to get drink refills. A couple of times. The food arrived about half an hour later - and we were rather underwhelmed at the small portions. For the price, we expected something pretty hearty! But alas - it was more like small plate appetizers. The two folks that had burgers rated them as overcooked. The fries were pedestrian, under seasoned and out of an Ore-Ida bag. I did find toward the bottom a slight hint of truffle oil, which would have more justified the inflated pricing had the entire serving been truffle oiled. I had Lobster Eggs Benedict. They arrived with about one teaspoon of very thin hollandaise-flavored butter. The waitress quickly brought out a small dish with another tablespoon of similar sauce. I think they forgot to add the egg yolks and cook it??? Usually, Eggs Benedict comes with an orange slice or a fruit garnish, and some hash browns. No such luck here (husband shared his fries with me, he's a keeper). We had to flag down our server again for the check. Which was a bit of a sticker-shock because we were still hungry. Would I go again? Maybe, if I was meeting someone at the airport. But I could also drive them north or south 15 minutes and get better food, serving sizes, better pricing and faster service. South - maybe even an ocean view. I hope that Hangar One can train the staff to be a little more observant, and increase the food portions for the premium prices charged. read more

This place was a hidden gem!! So cool & off the beaten path. Great food, drinks & atmosphere. We saw 2 Coast Guard helicopters take flight. Loved everything we ordered from the Skillet steak appetizer to the HUGE surf & turf portion. I loved my ceviche, also! So delish!!! We used to enjoy dinner here but the last 3 times we have been disappointed. We had 5pm reservations for 5 of us and we were the only ones there for a while and it took 50 minutes for salads and appetizers to come out and an hour and 45 minutes for the meals!!! The waiter was pleasant but refused to write our orders down even after asking him to. He smiled and said "I got this". One hour and 45 minutes later he did not "got this" and brought 3 of us the wrong meals and sides. 3rd time bad service... and we are done. read more

They try. Ambiance is nice. Clean. Menu looks cosmopolitan & interesting but falls short. Granted we aren't in Germany but do research the simple schnitzel recipe. First of all, the meat was tough & hard to cut. It was way too thick. If you hammered it into thinner servings it would help tenderize it too! The Spaetzle should be boiled in salted water & drained well. Then most cooks toss them in melted butter if there is no gravy. These were soggy & tasteless. What would you expect to accompany a schnitzel diner? A little sweet & sour red cabbage? Apple sauce? Sour cream? Not here! Another intriguing menu item was the rabbit. It was served in a tasty gravy with traditional wide noodles, but it was very hard to find the meat! And they ran out of celery for the Bloody Marys! But it was interesting to watch the private planes deposit their passengers & try to guess who they might be. read more

Server was polite but inattentive. I had the burger and asked specifically if it could be done medium rare. Once assured, when it showed up, I thought the best use of it would be to re-sole my shoes. I decided to try the new Hangar One Bistro last night with a group of friends and was pleasantly surprised. Loved the trendy decor. I had the sea scallop plate (sea scallops, pork belly, corn sauce and plantain chips) it was perfectly cooked. Delicious! For dessert decided to try the flan and it tasted just like my abuela's. We wanted to give the new owner some business but unfortunately, what used to be a good, affordable place to go is now just the opposite. We understood the issue with a shortage staff but to charge almost $20 for a very small martini that had very little alcohol content and another $25 for a very small "lobster " caprese salad which was probably langostino and store bought mozzarella was not understandable. Unfortunately we will not return. Very disappointing. read more

I've been here for Brunch (where they have bottomless mimosas or sangria, so good!) but recently tried here for dinner and was blown away. My husband and I tried the meat and cheese board it was one of the most delicious boards we've tried. The bread was soft and the meat and cheese was excellent. We both got the ribeyes with cauliflower casserole and fries. The steak was well cooked and seasoned well. They also had a sauce they covered it with that was really good as well. The cauliflower was really good and the fries were served in a bowl! The portions were really generous. For dessert we tried the berry bread pudding and it was super good! The piece we were given was huge and my only wish was slightly more ice cream to bread pudding ratio. Overall really great food, service, and the atmosphere is really neat being in the airport. We will be returning for many more dates in the future! read more

What a great first experience. Picture this.. it's Sunday and you're hung over from a girls wine night and you're in desperate need of food and possibly a Bloody Mary. We found this trendy spot and thought what the heck let's try it. Went in and were asked if we had a reservation... uh no not on a Sunday late morning we certainly did not lol. BUT it worked out and a table canceled and we were quickly seated. Totally a sign we were supposed to be there! We ordered burgers and bloody Mary's as we soaked up the view of all the planes taking off and landing. It was amazing! Next thing you know David, the manager, came to check on us. He is hands down awesome! My friend and I spoke to him for a few minutes about how nursing school was so stressful and how we may have to come visit the restaurant more often as we had totally fallen in love with it by that point! David cares and will go above and beyond to make sure you leave having a fulfilled dining experience. Long story short if you go for brunch or dinner make a reservation as they are a pretty popular but hidden gem. I hope to be able to visit for dinner one of these nights soon to see the planes From the 40's section of the restaurant. It's the prime spot. Went there for brunch and was highly unimpressed. I had the tacos which happened to be steak. They consisted of a half burnt flour tortilla, 4 or 5 cubes of steak, a couple tablespoonfuls of grilled onions, a melted square of provolone cheese, and a squirt of a Sriracha mayo sauce. They were accompanied by fried yucca which I'd never had and would be perfectly happy if I never tried them again. 3 tacos with yucca fries for $21. If I had paid half that much I would've felt cheated. read more

Given some of the mixed reviews we read on line for Hangar One, my wife and I were cautiously optimistic for our dinner. What a delight that from the moment we entered we had a five star experience. We arrived nearly 30 minutes early for our reservation. The hostess was friendly and told us exactly all our options. We sat at the busy bar where the head waiter moved chairs so that we could sit together while socially distancing and enjoying the sounds of the local musician, Amy Hendrickson. We agreed that the environment felt like we could have been at a trendy bistro in NYC or DC. Her Spicy Martini and my Cadillac Margarita were excellent. Our table at one of the windows overlooking the airport felt secluded but not isolated. We ordered the calamari appetizer which arrived in minutes. It was a wonderful: lightly fried, the perfect chewy texture and presented with a soy emulsion that had just the right levels of spice, sweet and salt. We then shared the beet and goat cheese salad. I've not had a better salad in all of St Augustine. The dressing was a great balance of acidity, flavor and light touch. The greens were varied and super fresh. The multi-colored beets were pickled just right and the fried goat cheese was the perfect compliment of crusty and tang. My Moqueca (Brazilian fish stew) was a sassy bouillabaisse, each seafood component juicy and tender, with an arresting spice medley that I devoured. My wife's Brazilian Beef stew was equally well prepared and spiced with unique flavors that continued to pull the diner in. The wine list could use work - it's short with only seven reds all recent vintages and needs more thought and expansion - though the lower priced Montepulciano d"Abruzzo was very good. This was one of our favorite dining experiences of the last 8 years living in St Augustine. read more

This is a much anticipated restaurant at the St. Augustine airport. The new owner remodeled the former Fly-by Café from top to bottom and the decor is modern with an industrial touch. The atmosphere is wonderful whether you go with friends, business partners or are seeking a romantic moment. High chairs are provided as well. It is a brand new place and we are looking forward to spending a lot of time there, whether for brunch, lunch, dinner or a drink at the bar. It took 45 minutes for two burgers show up but they came out much faster hours later at home. our plates were piled up, sat waiting and searching for our server while listening to for the dolphin mating noises and witches cackling vibrating off every wall. We aren't picky , I've worked service, I get it but this was bad. The fries tasted like Wendy's fries only worse. If you go , bring earplugs , a full stomach and a buzz bc it will take forever. Made 7:00 reservations online at 4:00pm. At 6:00 I received a text saying we will have to wait when we arrive because there are no tables available. What's the point in reservations than? Upon arrival the maitre-d approached us and introduced himself. Very professional and nice. Helped us get a seat at the bar. Waited over an hour for appetizers to be served. They were delicious. Another hour passed without our main course. We kept asking where it was. Untimely we cancelled our dinner order. The bar maid eventually admitted she FORGOT to put our order in. She did serve some nice red wine however. You'd think one glass would be on the house for her mistake, but nope. We got charged. The place did have a nice vibe and could be a great place to frequent if the food and Meeks were not forgotten. It was our first time there and we were quite disappointed. Super cool place, bartender was very nice . We had an issue the first night we tried it and the kitchen had been closed due to a chef walking out in the middle of service. Totally understand when things like that happen. We ended up having a Few drinks and some nice conversation with the bartender . We tried again about a week later to have dinner. Although the meal was very good it was very late and ice cold. They did their best to make it up to us by bringing out a dessert for free but with the prices we just don't see coming back again. My eggs were over cooked, and they hastily took it to be corrected and didn't even charge me fir it. Btw. It was amazing! I'm a eggs Benedict snob so I love my hollandaise sauce when it mixes with the yolk! We visited for lunch and I had the jerk chicken sandwich and the meat came out cold with everything else hot and Dax had the kid's pasta carbonara and it had too much garlic (even for me and I love garlic). Dax loved looking at all the planes but none were taking off and landing. The table next to us was enjoying glasses of wine and they were healthy pours. Ketchup was the other fry condiment option. Do you know who else serves ketchup with their fries? McDonald's. Pet peeve!!! Ketchup came on the scene somewhere around 1690. My challenge to all Chefs is, can we do better than ketchup on menus? Or are we not talented enough across all venues. But high-end restaurants should never carryithe same thing that McDonald's carries in a packet. - Lobster Roll was mayonnaise heavy and had no flavor, but the Hawaiian roll itself was done well. Not sure if it's worth $16 even done well... - Portions looked like the cook was very cost conscious First time owners, a learning curve I truly empathize. The frustration is the basics were missed in a highly competitive market, and you always want to root for the underdog.
