The only good thing about this experience was the coffee, which was okay. I am a graduate student who needs to get school work done and choose local coffee shops to support while studying. I heard good things from social media about Hanks and wanted to give it a try. Little to say I was very disappointed. I got to the shop early, and only saw a minimal amount of parking which is not abnormal for Franklin. All stated '15 minutes' or '1 hour max' and as a student with a lot of work, I typically stay 2-4 hours and found a spot without a sign. As I went in and placed my order, I asked the barista if the spot I found would be adequate to avoid tow/ticket. Then, the man who was in charge of the shop today said that "he didn't have 2 more signs to put there" and "we have a lot of traffic, and we don't want to get congested". After walking to get my order, I wanted to leave and asked for it to be placed in a To-Go cup. The man in charge again said, "we can't do that" and told the barista passively to 'make a new one'. I verbalized that I didn't want them to do more work and I was okay using it but they ignored me. Long story short, I will not be returning and hope they can be more accommodating to locals who want to invest, rather than tourists. read more

First, this building is my favorite lil spot, I'm happy to see it getting new life. Second, what a great addition to this neighborhood! Now to the food/drinks: we ordered the avocado tartine, hazelnut tartine, white cheddar and fresh herb tartine, cheddar and herb scone. One of the best scones I've ever had. The salted caramel, omgoodness!!! Full bodied and well rounded caramel, definitely not flat in flavor, this is a caramel that pleasantly stays in your mouth 5 minutes after the last sip. Tweaks: consensus was the bread was too toasted. It rips up your mouth a little. Consistency and flavor of the bread was great though. Would this stop any of us from ordering again?? Absolutely not. I have tried the ricotta toast as well as the avocado toast, both are delicious! I got a classic matcha too, which I'd recommend. Always very busy inside but I've somehow never had an issue getting a seat or a parking spot. Service workers are lovely but there can be a little bit of a wait due to the popularity. I'd say it's worth it. I wish the seating vs the area to wait for your coffee/food was a bit less crowded/packed in. Great place to get work done too. read more
