I thought this was going to be a cafe but this place completely overturned every single expectation I had when I walked through the door in the first place. Cyber cafe dream? I think so. With a large parking lot calming any worries of finding parking, the shop is located at the front of the curb and even easier to spot given the Hanlin sign in black font hovering among the other establishments. The entrance is very open with an IG friendly bench below a neon sign to the right and a shining white counter sitting in front of you. It's easy finding a seat among the chairs that litter the space, especially by an outlet for all your devices. It was honestly surprising to find this almost being a cyber cafe as most other coffee shops, milk tea shops and others because they have a lot more considerations and food options to choose from. Especially being guided by the staff immediately upon the question of, "Have you been here before?" No! I haven't but I appreciated the fact that the service here is all about what is the best, what to expect and how to make the experience as smooth as possible. Thankfully it is easy finding something you'd like within the vast menu. Not to mention you'd also like the fact that everything is priced pretty average compared to most places around the area. It's still surprisingly to me finding a Taiwanese restaurant around this area but that's something that you come for especially price for price and pound for pound when it comes to portion and taste. Speaking of taste! The plum juice with boba was a good balance but lets not forget plum is definitely a certain bittersweet taste profile that isn't often enjoyed. There are so many great boba joints/chains in the OC that it's hard to stand out. Was recommended this boba place by a friend and it didn't disappoint! I appreciate that their drinks are both customizable and don't seem to use artificial flavoring. The tea taste is strong but not overwhelming. The flavors are prominent without being overly sweet. I got a Guava lemon green tea and it was very refreshing, just the right amount of tart for me. I've read that some people like to study here and I can see why, given that there are lots of tables and the space is clean and airy. The menu has both a plethora of drinks as well as numerous food options (popcorn chicken, desserts, even hot pot) and if I was local I would definitely come here for a warm meal, a drink, and a place to get work done. I came here primarily as a place to study, but I didn't realize that they also served a whole bunch of food items. I thought they only had drinks, but I'm glad I got to have a meal here before diving into my studies. I was warmly welcomed when I arrived and was offered suggestions with the menu since it was my first time. I was planning on getting the popcorn chicken or fried tofu, but I got excited and got hot pot instead with an iced oolong tea. To be honest, I really enjoyed the hot pot (Spicy broth), like way more than Boiling Point or any other hotpot in the area. The flavor wasn't too spicy, but was so flavorful. The toppings too were so savory and complemented the broth well. It's not super busy, so I was able to get a good spot. The music is a bit loud, but headphones fixed that issue. This is the newest Hanlin Taiwanese tea shop locations in the Chino area with the original location in rowland. It's in a very random strip mall. It's next to the Robek/swimming school in the Mcdonald's plaza. If you're not familar Hanlin is a higher end tea shop from Taiwan that specializes in premium tea with quality ingredients. They were the first to develop the pearl milk tea in 1986. This location has spacious open seating in the interior. It's pretty much open seating. You can either order at the register or at the table for dine-in. This is our groups probably 3rd time at this location since its super easy to find a table here just to hangout for some drinks and snacks. The popcorn chicken is unique here in that they also fry whole cloves of garlic with the chicken so you get that extra burst of garlic flavor. No they aren't sliced potato wedges! For drinks the safe items are any of the milk teas or fruit tea items. The cheese foam drinks are just ok here also. Note they make the cheese cream per order but it's not much and not very salty compared to other tea shops. It seems to be cream based instead of cream cheese so not as sweet if that's your style. Not sure if this a training issue with this new location but that's not the usual flavor profile if you've had Hanlin from the Rowland location before. read more

This place opened up recently, it's a cute Taiwanese cafe with a variety of rice and noodles dishes. I usually get the popcorn chicken ($7.95), theirs have roasted bits of garlic along with the chicken. Their seasoning is not too salty, the chicken is moist and the batter is not to thick. My son and I decided to try this Taiwanese cafe and tea house. Located in the Gordon Ranch center where the old Ralph's market used to be located. It's a clean and modern looking restaurant with both take out and a dine in area. There is a sign that says wait to be seated, but since it wasn't busy they just told us to sit anywhere. They took our order right away and the food came out pretty quickly Ordered the Braised Beef with Rice, the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, along with a Mango Green Tea and Oolong Tea Latte. The Braised Beef with Rice was pretty good and came with a side of corn and imitation crab. The Mango Green Tea was also good. The Oolong Tea Latte was iced and very good with Brown Sugar and had a boba like flavor. As expected it took a little longer for the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup to arrive . The flavor of the broth was average but some hot oil spiced it up nicely. The noodles are buckwheat and had a nice flavor and chew: Beef was tender, moist and flavorful. Lastly ordered the spicy tofu and popcorn chicken to go for the wife. Will have to update the review once I get her critique. Overall a four star experience. They lose a star because I wanted the Taro milk teas but they didn't have it. Will definitely come back again and give them another chance to get that fifth star. read more

I recommend this place for pretty good milk tea, taiwanese comfort food and great service. The popcorn chicken was crispy and I really Loved the fried garlic they had with it. Portion size was good. Came with cabbage, tomato egg, and minced meat rice. The hot pot had a great clean broth that was very comforting. Good amount of meat and fish balls. Choice of rice or vermicelli noodles. They had other broth flavors like spicy taiwanese and sukiyaki. The sauces they served along side were pretty tasty. Sesame and a sweet garlic soy. The ambiance was chill and the service was amazing. I had two little ones and that could get hectic. They provided utensils for the kids and were very accommodating. Price was decent too especially for amount of food. When paying, our server allowed us time to set our tip by walking away which was thoughtful and nice. We'll be coming back again to dine in and maybe try to go too. In fact, my only choices were between McDonalds, Indian, or Hanlin Tea Room. They have a pretty limited food menu but they have all the staples like minced pork, Taiwanese sausage, etc. I decided to go with their popcorn chicken with rice. My to-go order took about 5-10 min or so for it to come out which wasn't too bad. Their popcorn chicken is honestly one of the best I've had in a really long time. Each chicken piece was super juicy and tender, while all maintaining their crispness. I got mine in medium spice and tbh it was a little too spicy for me. Next time, I'll probably go mild! My only reason for taking a star off is because they forgot to include sweet and sour sauce with my order :( Other than that, I would probably have given them a solid 5 stars. I'm extremely disappointed with this place. I feel like they're minimizing in every single thing. We're a family of four and they only gave us 2 small bowls to share our food. My first grader knows better calculation. The food is nothing special. The fried tempura is ok, doesn't come with any sauce. The dumpling is also mediocre. The Taiwanese beef noodle soup has more noodle than the broth and meat. Meat is tender, but it doesn't wow me. They really skimp on the pork on their dry pork noodle dish. Way too little. The service is below average. There's only one table beside us and she's (our waitress) been on her phone when we're there. Even when we're the only table left, she was on her phone, playing games. Hanlin Tea Room is the newest Taiwanese restaurant addition to the Chino Hills area and is part of a growing mini chain of the same name. I was a fan of the City of Industry location and was excited to see one much closer to where I currently live. And while this particular store has a hefty drink menu like its other location, the same can't be said about its food menu, which sticks to a handful of noodle and rice dishes as well as some appetizers - this disappointing if you've been to the other location, which really serves up some unique Taiwanese entrees. But the option to get gelatinous tea noodles as opposed to regular noodles for a noodle dish is a much appreciated feature and I also really enjoyed my smooth milk black tea that was perfect for a hot day. I really wanted to like this place because it's been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid. There's one in Tainan that I go to often (until a new mom and pop shop opened a few years back). The COI location is good but when I went to the CH location yesterday I was severely disappointed. Hanlin is considered the high end tea shop in Taiwan, they're really really popular. However what I didn't like about the chino hills location is that the taste is way too sweet and the tapioca Pearls were hard. Please don't destroy the Hanlin image because the quality here is not nearly up to par to what it should be. I'll come back here again in a few weeks to see if it's any different. read more
