Used Hansen Bros for a move from Seattle to Houston. We packed all, they picked up and dismantled furniture. Agreement was that they would put all furniture together at apartment in Houston; same way they picked it up. Delivery took weeks. Furniture was not put together in Houston, but in pieces (none broken). Missed some bolts to put all together. They also took bikes apart, to my surprise. Broke several pieces to my German bikes, which I still have not been able to replace. Lack of communication and answer from their sales rep. Did not respond to email. I rate them average; just like any other mover. Peter Hansen would not be happy. Likely better a company to use for local moves within Seattle vs longer haul. Comment: Hanson Bros called me after posting above. They apologized for the issues; also stated that their sales rep, aka "relocation consultant", did not work with them anymore. We recently made a move with Hansen Bros from Issaquah, WA to Palm Desert, CA. This review also includes Allied Van Lines that transported the household goods to Palm Desert. The move was fraught with problems from the beginning. Day one was crating some valuable and heavy items. The craters arrived 2 hours late, never informing us- we only found out after sitting around for an hour when we called Hansen Bros. to find out what was wrong. Then they measured wrong for two of the crates and had to return with new crating materials the next day. Moving day was supposed to start between 8 and 10 AM. However the truck didn't come until approximately 11:30. Again we sat around waiting- because no one called us to say they would be late. We had to call to find out what was wrong. We expected to be able to leave for the desert around 3-4 PM but had to stay overnight because they didn't finish until late in the afternoon. Cost us extra because we had to stay in a motel one extra day! The next disappointment was that we were told the window of delivery would be 4-8 days and the driver assured us when he left that it would be closer to 8 days because he had to go to Phoenix first. Well much to our dismay we received a phone call after 3 days that the truck would arrive on day 4 between 10 and 12Noon. On day 4 we were up very early preparing the house for arrival of the truck but received a call at 11:30 A.M. that the driver wasn't coming that day after all! This was an hour and a half after he was supposed to be at our house! Why did he not call us earlier? Why didn't Hanson Bros. call us to tell us of the delay?? We find this lack of customer service appalling. The goods were delivered on day 5. The main problem was that we had to argue to get the crates unpacked. We were never told the movers would not unpack the crates or reassemble the items that were crated! The final straw was when we realized the next day that the movers had not delivered one of our packages and left a box that was not ours! When we realized the truckers mistake we had to make at least three calls to arrange for him to drop off our item and pickup the box that wasn't ours. First he told us he would swing by on the way back from Arizona as he had to go by the house anyway. It would be around 8PM. Then at 10PM- two hours after he was supposed to be at our house he called to say his truck was having problems and he was still in Arizona and would leave it during the night. We stayed up most of the night waiting for him so we could let him in through the coded gate. He didn't come until noon! We would definitely not recommend Hansen Bros. or Allied Moving Lines to anyone who values good customer service, reliable scheduling and empathy for customer problems. read more

The guys who came to move our stuff were crazy amazing. They were fun and worked like maniacs to get our stuff moved. However, the scheduling people were not so great. I was told I would get a phone call for our Monday move on Friday. Then it changed to Saturday. I never got that call, so I had to call Monday morning to find out when they would be here. I was told between 11 and 3. They arrived at 330, with not a single phone call. I understand scheduling things happen, but it's courteous to give the customer a call to let them know. read more

I would not recommend Hansen moving if your furniture is nice than Ikea -- of they items they move, one was flat out dropped, two were scratched, and a third had a leg broken form it. The worst part was the item that was dropped they "tried" to repair and did not even call me to confirm that we wanted them to fix it. The fix was a miserable failure and they tried to pass it off as existing damage when they delivered the furniture. Will never recommend them. read more

I wanted to share our great experience with Hansen Brothers / Allied on our recent cross country move from Seattle to Boston. Bidding Process: I had to obtain 3 bids for our move. I had Mayflower, North American, and Allied all come out to our house to provide us bids. David Albaugh from Hansen was the only person who encouraged us to opt to get permits to place no parking signs outside of our house and was confident that we did not need a shuttle. -- This plan worked perfectly. David provided a bid that was very competitive with the other two bids i received - there was only $1000 difference between the highest and lowest bid. David's bid was within 100 lbs of what the final weight was. He did a great job estimating our truck load on site. David also offered to share any used boxes that he could muster from other jobs. We purchased some mirror boxes, and wardrobe boxes on our own, and this really was helpful. Elaine and Vicki were our coordinators during the move, and we spent some time reviewing the logistics of our drop delivery in Boston, and we reviewed with the city if we needed to get a shuttle. Kent and Bernard were our movers, and they were totally an A-Team. They were both great service people, and they worked quickly and effectively both on the load out and the load in. Our communication on the delivery was superb. They set an expectation of a three day window when they picked up my stuff, and we communicated once a week until the driver was a day out. He arrived right on time and did great delivering everything safe and sound. I can't speak to some of the less shining comments on Yelp, but it would be my assertion, that good communication, good planning, good packing, good labeling, and good organization is a two way street. If both the mover and the movee do this really well, you will have a good experience. I would really recommend working with this team for any type of short or long distance move. read more

Everything was moved with no breakage (even though I and my family did packing of all but furniture) so movers had no way of knowing if everything was packed properly. Movers were very personable and worked fluidly as a team to keep the work flow going with no wasted time - time even came in at less than estimate! read more

I am not sure what all the negative reviews are about as we had the best moving experience to date with this company-from the initial quote, to confirmation if the moving date, to advance notice when truck was on the way, and to the professionalism of the moving crew. The movers were two very respectful and cautious young men handling our possessions with care. Nothing was broken. One scratch on the wall-but I think we would have done much worse trying to move all of the items ourselves. Hopefully this is our home sweet home for a long time but if in the future we decide to move we will definitely use these guys again. And yes our quoted moving price was lower than actual (but lower than the second estimate given on moving day) but given the fact that I estimated the box count prior to packing I was okay with that. We had a ton more stuff to move than I initially told them. I feel for the people that did not have this same level of excellent service! read more

Moving is never, ever a fun task. Hansen Bros and their staff/employees are some of the best in the biz. They do their best to ease the pain. We've used them a couple times and met, if not exceeded expectations on both occasions. Nothing's perfect, but with Hansen, we experienced no drama, no missing pieces, a few scratches on a couple furniture pieces (no big deal, offer was made to fix, but we said "all good.") I used Hansen on my first move and had a good experience so used them again and was very disappointed. I moved from a large house to a smaller property and much of my stuff was going into a storage unit. Expensive dining chairs not protected in any way, coffee tables etc. The storage unit was not packed by them in any semblance of order, stuff just dumped in there, I had to hire another team to help me sort it out. While the moving team were pleasant and respectful their packing and organization was not good. Bolts, screws and essential items to put my dining table, light fittings, mirrors and other items were dumped in the boxes amongst other items. As much of my stuff was going into storage this was inconvenient. I still can't find some things. Those items should have been given to me for safe keeping and not packed or at least packed totally separately. Excessive paper was used to wrap the tiniest things including all the pantry goods. This took up so much time to unpack! I also had broken items: a figurine missing her arm that my mother made amongst other things. I won't be using them again. read more

I was really pleased. Hansen Brothers coordinated the move of furniture from a Ballard storage locker to Allied, which then stored the furniture in Florida for delivery there at a later date. Hansen Brothers did a great job of coordinating with me in Seattle, with Allied, and with my mother in Florida and getting this all done exactly on time. The crew in Seattle did a very impressive job of wrapping a valuable buffet for transit. I also appreciated the estimator's advice about repacking some china in smaller boxes! This was without a doubt the worst move we have ever experienced and we have moved several times. The loading up in Kirkland was great but after that it all fell apart. We are missing China, Christmas decorations, and coats. I made the mistake of foregoing checking stickers because the movers hired on the North Carolina were disorganized and honestly the laziest men I have ever met. Because it was such a cluster and I didn't check stickers I can't file a claim. Hansen Brothers has been completely unresponsive and unwilling to help us out. I have had nothing but good experiences with Hansen Bros Moving & Storage. It's interesting how many have given the company such poor reviews. I have used them 3 times in the last few years. Everyone I worked with was professional. When I contacted them, they were quick to book a quote appointment. The movers were fast and respectful of my items and house. Nothing was missing or broken. I would definitely use this company again in the future. The price is a little expensive, but I received excellent service. I hate writing a bad review, but in this case, I'd like to save other people from going thru my experience if I can. This company did a terrible job of shipping my things. it was an interstate move, and besides being 5 days late, they didn't seem to care, cost me 5 days of work, $$$, changing flights, etc. then when they finally delivered, half of the boxes were crushed, and 5 boxes are missing. Lots of damaged items. the real corker was two of the clothes wardrobes, that I meticulously packed, had been opened, and GARAGE tools put inside. One was a table saw!! yes, a table saw along with my husbands suits, shirts, jackets. the movers who unpacked us here were stunned at how the Containers had been packed and loaded. the Local Allied company who unpacked us here were very apologetic and took lots of photos of damaged equipment. I am an artist and I had lots of fragile boxes, and lots of damage. Save yourself the anguish and use someone else AND believe the other reviews... I wish I had check before I third them. read more

We had one of the worst moving experiences with this company. We hired them to transport our goods from Seattle, WA to Pittsburgh, PA. The packing and loading of the truck in Seattle went fine. Prior to leaving Seattle we notified them that the streets in Pittsburgh were narrow and that a normal moving truck would not fit down the street (this was communicated at least 3 times). They told us not to worry, they handle moves like this all the time. They got to Pittsburgh with our goods on a huge truck and called us to tell us that they could not get down the street and that our goods would be taken back to the warehouse about 30 miles outside of Pittsburgh and we would have to take care of getting permits to close off the street and then notify them of when that would happen so they could then deliver the goods. This was going to take another 2 weeks and we did not want to wait. We rented two small U-Haul vans and moved the goods ourselves. After paying additional $$ for the U-Hauls vans and taking time off of work, we asked for them to reimburse us for the money we paid. They flat out refused saying that they had offered to deliver our goods - THEY DID NOT! Ironically, they dropped our household goods off at the warehouse, put it on a loading dock (not even protected) and left us to figure it out on our own. We never received another phone call from them checking in on what is happening after they told us that it was ultimately our responsibility to coordinate all the activities in blocking off the street and having our goods delivered. We chose this moving company because they sold us on their service, they were not the cheapest, but seemed to speak often about how they strive for 5 Star service. I'm giving them one star and will continue to pursue this with the Better Business Bureau and small claims court if necessary. If Hansen Brothers really wanted to demonstrate their customer service, they would find a way to compensate us for the additional money we spent. read more

Last month we moved our large 4 BR, 3 BA, 3-car garage worth of belongings from Seattle to Asheville, NC. Experience was a mixed bag. We've done the partial white glove move 3 times now (they pack, I unpack), and this was the worst yet, but I am still very aware it could have gone even worse, esp. from reading some of the other reviews here. Brian Reppert from Hansen Brothers came to our home and provided the moving estimate for us. He was warm & friendly yet professional and quickly sized up our things and provided an aggressive guaranteed quote. He was compassionate about the stresses of a big move, and did his best to alleviate as much worry as possible. We were looking at several different methods for moving this time since we were paying out of pocket, but Brian made a good case for doing the same type of move we'd done with corporate relocation twice before, so, after some discussion and number crunching, we decided to go with Hansen Bros. The packers, a group of three 20-something-ish guys, arrived two hours after their scheduled time. They spent a good deal of time around the snack table we set out for them, taking pictures and texting them to friends, and they worked more slowly than the packers did on either of our two past moves. The packing quality, now that I'm working on unpacking, I've discovered was less than stellar. So many of our things were broken in this move. I'd estimate, conservatively, that 35% of our belongings that were breakable were broken, cracked or chipped when they arrived at our destination, i.e. furniture, artwork, dishes, decor, etc. Putting 7 pictures in a single picture box, without wrapping them AT ALL will result in a box of broken glass. I'm no professional packer and yet even I know that. Sets of things that were stored together in our home, like bedsheets, shoes, socks, you name it, were all separated into multiple boxes for some confounding, sadistic, inexplicable reason. Boxes were labeled so vaguely, you had no idea what was in them ('misc stuff' was a favorite label). Spelling on the boxes that were actually labeled was so poor as to be almost unintelligible. One of the packers clogged our toilet, and then packed the plunger, adding insult to injury. They emptied dressers but then used them to stash other things. They disassembled things and scattered the parts to the four winds. They told us Brian overestimated the time it would take to pack our belongings, and then they left without finishing, leaving it for the truck driver and his crew to figure it out the next day. When the truck driver arrived, he was a wave of positive energy. Luckily we had some boxes stashed from out last move that he and his crew were able to reuse to make up for where the assigned packers left off the day before. They worked hard to finish the job. They were respectful and got out on time. For the time things were in transit from Seattle to Asheville, everything was satisfactory. The driver checked in with me several times to give updates. Even on the delivery day, when the driver informed me he could not get his big truck up the hill into our new driveway, he quickly soothed my concerns by informing me they would transfer our things into a u-haul truck that could maneuver the tighter spaces, and that this was covered in our guaranteed contracted rate. Whew! During delivery, the 'mixed bag' again became apparent. I was given the usual clipboard with numbers to check my boxes in, and was told by the driver that many of the box number stickers had fallen off in transit, but they'd do the best they could. One of the unloaders smelled strongly of liquor. While I had to stay by the truck to check the boxes in, unknown to me, despite my requests for where each box should be placed, they were stacked wherever was convenient to the unloaders with complete disregard to my instructions. Some of our furniture was (partially) reassembled, but some of it was hidden in pieces where I wouldn't find it until I had already signed the release and everyone was gone. One example is our metal futon, which was fastened together using only half of the screws & bolts it was assembled with, just enough to appear put together, until someone tried to use it. Unlabeled boxes were loosely described and whisked out of view, and I was pressured by the driver to sign that they were all received, although I wasn't clear that I had in fact received all my boxes, and I'm still not sure I have them all. Two weeks later, unpacking is frustrating and slow. I'm still sorting through the pieces, trying to put back together the parts I can from the absolute chaos that was this move. To summarize, I don't know how I we could have managed a move of this scope on our own, but I am uncertain I would ever choose to go through this company again. Luckily they made the downsizing and decluttering easier for us by breaking so many things and loosing parts of others that we may be able move without assistance next time. read more

UPDATE: 01.15.11 - movers (after not showing up when they said they would and what was on the signed paperwork) did not show up again today after promising me they would be here. Luckily, the Department of Transportation accepts formal complaints and are looking into this entire event and company. I am reiterating my comment - STAY AWAY from this company. This is the single worst moving company I have ever encountered....please don't use their services...overpriced/rude/and they will leave you at the last minute stranded and without a mover (that is what they did to me)...and then they will yell at you over the phone....so unless you want to grieve yourself over a move then please don't use them...ever...I hope they go out of business very very soon...they are the single worst moving company ever! read more

One of them was very professional. They broke an expensive piece of furniture but won't take any responsibility. I had to sign a waiver forgiving them all mistakes. What a waste of my money. When having people in your home to move your possessions you would hope to find someone reliable- especially when moving is already stressful. Choosing to go with a moving company is supposed to take some of the stress out of moving but they can definitely make it worse if they don't show!!! read more

Wow, this was a horrible experience. This is my first time reviewing anyone on Yelp, so that should tell you something. I've read the other reviews and I too, had the exact same experience as many reviewers, so this is clearly a chronic problem with the company. I just did an interstate move from Seattle to Colorado. The rep I worked with told me my stuff would be there in one week and that it would be delivered on a weekend. Great, right? I get a call the Friday of the weekend I was expecting my stuff to be delivered, saying it would be there the next weekend, which I had told them I could not do because I would be out of town. I'm single and I don't have anyone to let the movers into my apartment. They said, sure okay, not a problem. Then they gave me an almost 2 week window of delivery after that time period, after I had already told them that it had to be delivered on a Fri-Sun since I work 12 hr days Mon-Thurs and could not get off the time for work without sufficient notice. Yeah, they called me less than 24 hrs before delivery...on a Wednesday. The movers ended up having to move my stuff in at 6:30pm after I got off from work in the dark. The company wanted payment before delivery, but since I didn't have a delivery date, and less than 24 hrs of notice, I couldn't plan finances accordingly, and when my family and I tried to work out a quick payment plan, Vicki was abrasive and again exceedingly rude. She said if we didn't pay immediately that my things would be put in storage and that I would be charged extra. She then said that we were wasting the movers time and they had done us a favor with the date change when they were the ones that didn't deliver when they said they would! You have to wonder who was wasting whose time. Either way, I was able to work it out, but not without a great deal of panic and stress. I'm still unpacking, but since they did such a poor job with inventory, labeling and the stickers fell off, there's no way of knowing if I got everything. The one up side is that the movers themselves both in Seattle and Colorado were decent guys who worked hard. It's the management that has major issues. Strangely, I got an e-mail from Vicki the day after the move asking how things went as if nothing had happened. Bizarre and insulting. I would not recommend this company to anyone, especially not for an interstate move. For the amount I paid, I expected more communication and customer service, and at the very least be treated respectfully. read more

Hansen Brothers Moving in Seattle, WA will make you re-arrange your schedule FOUR times before they finally deliver your stuff. Did I mention they will show up on a Friday night after hours too?! Do not use this moving company under any circumstance. When you provide feedback to them, they also respond by saying the client has "Beyond Contract" preferences instead of admitting any fault or wrong-doing. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that It is possible that they only treat their "small" clients with complete utter disregard and disrespect, as I only moved out of a 1-bedroom apartment. Perhaps they are kinder to clients who are paying them to move much more stuff. Who knows and frankly, I don't care. Their behavior is inexcusable. read more

This was the number one worst moving experience I have had in my life, and I have moved many times. The sad part is we never even got through the move planning. I can hardly keep track of the number of broken commitments that were made and mistakes that were made, and all of the time that was wasted by me and the inconveniences dealt with to be so greatly disappointed. Both the Sales and Site manager were unable to do anything to make it right and disappointed me even more than my orginal bad experiences. Such a terrible experience. I am in the process of escalating this with Allied Van as well. So far I have bounced around to 5 different numbers including a fax machine, and still do not know how to escalate this experience, but I will try more when I have time. When sharing my poor experience with the Sales Manager, his best response was there are 60 other movers in the area, maybe you should go with somebody else. The site manager did nothing to regain my confidence. I got a loud message that this business is not customer focused and that they don't care about their customers, nor value the business of customers. Just a total egregious poor quality experience for me. Be careful selecting your move partner so you do not end up as frustrated and disappointed as I was. read more

Moving service is OVERPRICED and their estimate is "FIRM" per their moving consultant. Having moved multiple times, I had a good weight estimate on all my same furniture and belongings. I gave a list of the items to be moved and weight of 1580#. The estimate I got was: 2 men crew at $144.60/hr for 2.5 hours. I thought this was reasonable, and asked company to come into my home and complete the walk-through estimate (done by Brad Schuster). And SURPRISE, SURPRISE: they estimated an even less weight of 1428#; but now it's going to take 3 men at $207.40/hr for 3 hours. (Brad also no-showed on the day of estimate, and called past the scheduled time, to say he had to reschedule) I emailed Brad about this significant discrepancy, and asked why the same items of even less estimated weight would take more men and more hours at more expensive price. The answer: "Unfortunately this is our estimate and it is firm". 2 estimates from the SAME company, drastically different prices. BEWARE OF A RIPOFF by Brad Schuster. I asked to speak to a manager about Brad's outrageous estimate, and Brad gave me an email (perhaps fake). No one returned my email. Alan Holm, VP of sales from Hansen, called back after posting of this review. And basically said "the beauty of this is...there are 60+ other moving companies within the radius...". So you can see their basic attitude is less than professional, and more of "if you don''t like it, you can f-off". You will be better off renting an UHaul truck and hiring MovingHelp through their Marketplace. DON'T use Hasen, AVOID Hansen for your own savings. read more

Believe it or not another moving company recommended me to Hansen Brothers because the other guys could not fit me into their schedule. Hansen Brothers rocked. They showed up right on time, worked really hard, were very professional and courteous. I only moved five miles, but I would use these guys in a heartbeat even if I was moving 500. read more

Finally they agreed to fix it, took it for over TWO months, and when we finally got it back--it wasn't even fixed. Really rude people, especially Rick, located in Bellevue/Renton area. Alert!!! Do not use this moving company, you will be over charged because they do not have experienced mover but only the driver. I had moving in late March for 4 bed house, I had Hanson came do estimate for all the furnitures, by the day they came for 2 trucks with 6 people crew. 4 people are looks grab from street, they move one chair at time, and 4 people for large furniture. With this slow speed, they spent almost whole day to up load so I had to pay overtime. Next day they came without any tool to assemble the furniture, finally I paid double of estimated fee and left un-moved furnitures. End with I hired anther moving company (a good one) to finished job. read more

We much appreciated their work. We especially appreciated that they were available on very short notice. We're a non-profit agency that works with low income adults, so we depend on efficiency and great value--Hansen Bros did that and more. We were very pleased with Zach, Brian, Dallas, and Kevin, who moved us out of our Capitol Hill condo and into our new home on Bainbridge Island. They were so nice, caring, and really funny. They are dealing with pretty stressed-out people as moving is not exactly in the top 10 of "fun" things to do, but they were so upbeat that it just got me through it nicely. We did have one item of breakage, and they have responded promptly, were obviously very concerned, and it was very obvious that this is not a common thing, so we are pleased in all respects. We had a wonderful moving experience with Hansen Bros. They sent a representative out to my house to give me an accurate moving quote based on all of my stuff. On moving day the four man team was courteous and efficient. I could tell they worked very well together. They were all very strong and organized, loading our things on the truck and then unloading the truck in a speedy way. Even with the hot weather the guys didn't give up the fast pace. Relocation from Seattle, WA, to Princeton, NJ, was completed as planned. Process included two pickups, temporary storage, transportation and delivery. Sales rep provided a clear description of process and detailed estimate. Driver was very professional and a pleasure to work with at the destination. Members of loading and unloading crews were courteous and efficient. I received location updates while cargo was in transit, useful because of snowstorms en route. Furniture and possessions arrived on time and undamaged. A few minor glitches were discovered on unpacking. For example the support base was detached from a flat screen TV set and packed in a separate location. Never did locate the connecting screws. This is a minor issue. All in all, the move was successful. read more
