Just an observation. I have purchased some high end sun glasses for many applications. I probably have $1000 in sunglassed but it just so happens Hansens has some very nice ones for beaters around the house for a lower price. So i went in yesterday as my regulars broke. The line was down the street with the sale and so at the employee reccomendation, i came back this a.m. at 10 a.m. when they open. I was waiting at the front door when i was talking to a nice lady about sunglasses and then the front door opened and the lady said, " do you want to come in or keep talking outside". That is a greeting that i can live without. She put off an angry vibe and i ignored her comment as i did have something to say. read more

Don't go here to buy Ski boots. I went here to buy ski boots and had squealy fit me. Not only was he a jerk the whole time while I was getting fitted ,repeatedly lose his cool, but the ski boots are a very uncomfortable fit. Will not be purchasing ski apparel here- ever again. read more

Hansen Surfboards for the win! This place is such a local find! Their selection is astonishing and their customer service, excellent. I went here on their first reopening day since COVID-19 and was set up for success. I was greeted with so many friendly smiles, "how are you," and helpful direction to what I needed. I am leaning to surf and had a lot of questions. One particular employee, Brent, helped me SO much in picking the right wetsuit. He helped get me the right sizing even though I had doubted him. The wetsuit was tight in the store, but once I got in the water it was absolutely perfect. He also steered me in the right direction of foam surfboard. I wanted a 7 foot surfboard, but was directed that the 8 foot would be MUCH easier. He was NOT wrong. I had gone out that afternoon with my new 8 foot board and also with a friend with a 7 foot board and the difference was huge. I was able to stand up several times on my board and had a ton of fun. Brent was helpful without being pushy or with an agenda and made this shopping experience easy, fun, and enjoyable! I will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you thank you thank you! read more

I am fighting back tears of joy after having Squealy do a custom heat mold for my new ski boots!! I have insanely high arches, and went to every shop in SD, talked to half dozen ski boot experts, and by the time I met Squealy i knew he was going to change my whole ski experience!!! He was so insanely dedicated to making sure I had a proper fit, and hands down had the most knowledge and experience out of everyone I spoke to on the subject! I recently moved-back to RSF and, have been SO impressed with the manner in which this store has implemented the C19 protocols , whilst also maintaining the essence of Hansens. I had bought a snowboard online and needed some bindings to put on it. Squeally, one of the employees, was more than helpful and not only put the bindings on hold for me, but mounted them as well and helped me heat mold my boots. My favorite surf shop in San Diego. It's like a candy store for beach bums--they have everything! I bought a wetsuit here and they were very helpful in helping me pick the best one for me and making sure it fit just right (note: wetsuit sizing can be very deceptive!). Hubby and I have always enjoyed coming here over the years. I grew up near Cocoa Beach, FL, and this store is about as close to a Ron Jon's as you can get in San Diego. There is a great selection of everything surf you can imagine, and it seems as though every brand is represented in one way or another. They have great selection of flip flops and sandals as well as other types of shoes. We stumbled in looking for flip flops, and thankfully there was a sidewalk (courtyard) sale going on this past weekend. Hubby got two pairs, regularly $110 for both, for $50. Great deal! The only downside to this place is that there is so much to look at and you can get easily get lost in the store. I also wish the store didn't seem so tightly packed with merchandise, but they seem to do well with the space they have. TIP: There are two areas to pay for your items, and most people flock to checkout in the clothing area. There is almost never a line in the middle of the store where the flip flops and surfboards are sold. read more

Came in here the other day to shop the little sidewalk sale. Surprisingly, there was a lot of great stuff in my size. I picked out a few items for myself and my niece to try on - everyone working was super friendly and helpful but especially Sydney who was a great help with the dressing room... A couple of items I couldn't decide on (I'm super indecisive) but she was super patient in helping me decide which to purchase and also looking for additional sizes for both my niece and I! I recently bought a standup paddle board, but have been struggling a bit to figure out the best roof rack to install to secure it to my car. A friend recommended coming here to ask their opinion. When you walk in, it primarily looks like a retail shop, but when I inquired with a sales associate, they were super nice and called Ken to speak to me about Thule product options based on the make and model of my car. He was definitely the expert to speak to because he was knowledgeable, had literature resources and really honest without trying to sell me something that wouldn't be the best fit. He confirmed my fear that there's no fit for a roof rack for my particular car in Thule brand, but took the time to refer me to other options such as local specialists and reliable retail stores. I may have not walked away with a purchase, but I came to the right place to ask the expert and walk away more knowledgeable and with an updated game plan! I bought a surfboard. Yep I did. Not today, but I did buy one. It's my favorite board ever. I love my surfboard so much I want to marry it and make little baby surfboards. I checked out a few other shops, thinking Hansen's would be expensive but they were actually cheaper and matched me up with the best board of my life. I love it so much, I just want to hold it close, lay down on top and wiggle around. I love when it gets all wet, slippery and wild. It's white but I'd love it no matter what color it is. Came here a couple days ago and the employees were all so extremely helpful! I bought a couple maxi dresses while my brother was shopping for surfboards that are reasonably priced and wetsuits. My moms business is right around the area which is why we decided to swing by this store and check it out. This place is FULL of awesome stuff for all your surfing needs. Even if you just want to look the part, they have some really cool gear and some super dope boards. It's huge too so you can look for a long time and imagine your perfect surfing life post-lottery win. The problem with this place is nobody says hello. Nobody asks if you need help with anything. Nobody acknowledges you! I was here scoping out boards with my buddy for about 45 minutes and swore we were somehow invisible. First off, we've been coming her for years for most of our gear and clothes for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and coastal/mountain life. It's just a super-cool spot to browse, parking lot sales, etc. Came in a week ago to exchange a wetsuit for my son (wrong size) and had a disappointing experience w/ a team member who had an off day. When Josh Hansen became aware of it, he reached out, catalyze his team, special ordered the right gear, followed through almost daily until the new suit was in, and made sure my service experience was first-rate. Hansen's is where I come when I need my surf one-stop shopping place. I love their selection of boardshorts, Hawaiian shirts, other clothes and surf gear. They usually have all the sizes in stock and the employees are helpful and friendly. Hansen's is on the upper en in terms of prices for surf shops but to me the variety, size, good staff and quality makes it worth it. Really, one-stop surf shopping sums it up. read more

Hansen's is awesome. It has the best clothes, a large shoe selection, and all the surf and snow stuff you need. The only thing is you can expect to spend a LOT of money there and its pretty expensive...but you're getting what you pay for. Good quality stuff. I went to get my snowboard waxed there and the guys were super cool. They hooked us up with tuning the edges and even fixed a ding in my roommates board for free. We gave them 3 boards to do the night before we were heading to the mountain and they got them done super quick even though they were busy. I would definitely go to them again. read more

There are a lot of shops out there here in North County but I don't have to look any further because Hansen's and their employees have it down pat. I recently came in looking for some new Futures fins and eyed a board that I wanted to buy. I was helped by Lucas (Store Manager) and we talked nuances around board design in general, this particular model, and other design elements. He was extremely knowledgeable about not only surfboards but surfing in general and gave a very good vibe off. I had snowboard boots that I needed heat molded for an upcoming trip. I called Hansen's and was put in touch with Squealy who was absolutely amazing. Coincidentally, I realized my boyfriend and his whole company actually go to Squealy for all their ski boot and ski tune up needs so that was a great sign. Squealy was able to squeeze me in the next day and spent over an hour working with me to find the right insole and get the boots perfectly heat molded. Two reasons why my family likes Hansen's: 1- I was looking for a wetsuit. I'm a picky old lady with a big, um, well, I'm not a 6. I tried on about every suit in my size and told them what I liked and didn't like and they told me where to find my dream come true - at another store. They sent me to another store! And I found my dream and Betty (that's my wetsuit) and I are very happy together. 2- When my kids get their awesome report cards, they can take them to Hansen's and get $6 store credit for every A! I think they get something for B's too, but (nose in the air), my kids get straight A's. So they get major Hansen's cash. The only place they failed was when I was shopping for Sheena - my new bodyboard. They have an excuse for bodyboard selection and nada for women.
