I just spent an hour and a half getting fit for ski boots and I was completely dreading it. But Ken at Hansen's made the experience incredibly rewarding. He was very patient in answering all of my obnoxious, newbie questions and really helped me understand the process of picking out ski boots which is something I've never done before. I also witnessed him tell a customer who was thinking of getting newer (and what he thought would be warmer) boots, that the best way to go was to get boot warmers which probably saved the guy about $600. It showed his integrity which gave me confidence he was giving me good, solid advice as well. I highly recommend Hansen's for anyone thinking of getting new ski equipment! read more

It would have been nice if one of the dozen or so employees even said hello this morning. My husband went in to check out snowboards and he walked through the whole store, stood watching everybody talking to each other. He stood there for a few minutes and Nothing! Not even a hi. He was the only customer in the store. Yikes! The owner would have been seriously annoyed they missed their first $600 sale of the day (at least). Employees need to pay attention. Best surf shop I've been in! My friends and I come in here every now and then for some new gear before our surf sessions. We get our supplies with speed due to the helpful employees and fast service. The shop is very organized and well kept clean. It has a nice vibe inside and is one of the historic yet new culture shops of Encinitas. I recommend this surf shop over all of them in San Diego. Worst customer service ever! I walked in there today and Pammy and one of the sales girls treated me like I was trying to scam them. I purchased a nice bag there two weeks ago and it busted at the seams. When I went into the shop to make an entirely separate purchase last Monday the gal working told me to bring in my bag and that they would exchange it, no problem. BUT when I walked in there today the women were catty and rude. I've never once posted a bad review on yelp, and i genuinely like the store they have great stuff, but I will never shop there again. On a human level people deserve to be treated with respect, these women scoffed at me and told me they would give me $20 store credit. The bag alone was $60. I'd rather have the faulty bag than the measly 20 bucks. It's not even about the money it's the fact that they refused to honor what their employee said she would do, they treated me like I was in the wrong for their faulty bag, and then they looked at me like I was trying to get over on them. Def felt like they have me the pretty woman treatment. I have a lot of friends that shop there and I am a good customer. They will never see another dime from me! Bought a pair of high end ski boots from Hansons a couple of years ago and they never worked out..too large, too stiff etc. Called them last week to see if they could refit them..they said they'd give it a shot and come in anytime. I mentioned this to Christian,  one of the owners and he asks to measure my foot..turned out I needed a size smaller as my foot was floating around inside the shell which is fricking dangerous...he says wait here a minute,  and he walks out with a brand new pair of boots in the correct size. He heats them up to custom form them to my feet and then says "no charge"...best fitting boots ive ever had...I'm just blown away at how he made things right and the new boots retailed for  $450...it's a rare thing these days when a retailer stands behind their products and on a10 point scale,  I give Hansons a 20..heading to Squaw on Wednesday and can't wait to try them out. I came here over the weekend and was blown away by how friendly and informative the staff was. I'm currently in the processes of buying a standup paddle that is easy to use for the family without costing an arm and a leg. The gentleman that was helping me gave me a full run down on the pros and cons of each board and why one might be better for me than another. He did this knowing I wasn't going to be purchase that day, which shows you the level of professionalism this surf shop has. Was back down in the area (used to live around there) recently and we went in, but unfortunately left with a 'eh' feeling about the place now, which is a bummer as I think they have a lot to offer. First, the t-shirts that I was trying on of theirs (their brand) were all thin cotton material that you can see your hand through. For the price, I thought that was a bit unfortunate. Second, checkout experience wasn't great. The manager nearby was dealing with some other issue but was fairly annoyed and loud about it right in front of us, which was just odd. Then the checkout person sorta was talking to someone else vs. helping us much, and when they did there was nothing really polite about it. I have felt that weird vibe there before - ie, unless you know them or something, they're just going through the movements and not really helping you (sorta a 'you're helping them more' than vica versa). Just not a great experience overall and I left thinking I'll probably spend the $ elsewhere next time. read more

Can't say enough about the service at Hansen's with a special shout out to Issac in the ski shop. He was able to rush a pair of ski tune ups on my wife's and my ski's for us, and we couldn't be more grateful. Not only got them done super quickly but did just an awesome job on the edges and wax as well, can't wait to hit the slopes. We also picked up a really nice double ski bag for our flight, again really impressed, great selection, couple different soft and hard cases t choose from. Since we are not really close to a ski area I wasn't sure what to expect when we walked in, but I walked out super stoked and a Hansen's customer for life. read more

I was scouring the Internet for the O'Neill FUZE long sleeve spring suit in size XL and nobody had it. Ken gave me an estimated arrival date for the suit, took down my phone number and called me back several times with updates and the actual arrival. He and the other girls there took great care of my search and order. I just surfed with it yesterday and I doubt any other place has gotten them in stock to date. A huge shout out to Hansen's and their amazing staff. I was struggling to find cute women's snowboarding pants in a larger women's size than the typical adorable snow bunnies I've seen on the slopes. Sandra found me immediately and with in minutes I was surrounded by two associates helping me try on styles and giving me helpful feedback on the best look, function, and cut for my figure. Ladies - you know what I am talking about when you are ready for a melt-down because nothing seems to fit and you feel frumpy. Well these gals went above and beyond to make me feel like the only guest in the shop. They called me 3 days in a row to let me know they ordered and expedited a pair of pants in time for my trip. I felt like a million bucks on the slopes just 4 days later. My hubby also found a great pair of pants and I will definitely be bringing the rest of my family back for more! To top it off, Sandra encouraged me to come back for swim season and assured me she could find something I would feel spectacular in. We were looking for wetsuits for the entire family (2 adults and our 3 year old and 5 year old daughters). We hit every surf shop from Oceanside to Encinitas and Hansens by far had the widest selection and best prices. My girls where thrilled to finally find pink wetsuits as they thought the suits at the other shops looked too "boyish". I was a little concerned that we might be paying too much so I hopped on my blackberry and did some internet price comparision and Hansen's was right in line with what I found. Plus we didn't have to pay shipping and got the suits right away! I've also shopped here many times for sandals and they have the biggest selection in North San Diego County that I have seen. They've got also have a HUGE selection of clothes, boards, sunglasses, etc. Keep up the great work guys! read more
