This was rated the #1 hot chocolate by someone I follow on instagram and I had to go check it out for myself. I do agree with this evaluation, as it is now my favorite as well - here's what makes it so: it's decadent, thick, and rich, like european hot chocolates, and is quite sweet at the end, but has a sharp dark chocolate bitterness that leads in the beginning, so it's not overtly too sweet, but it's just got a lot of everything going on. The torched marshmallows are what bring this over to the top - that gently crisped exterior from the brulee giving way to this luxurious soft, melty marshmallow is SOOOO good, and something that I will remember and would definitely come back for. The space itself is small - the market is literally a small shop selling groceries and prepackaged lunch. But I came in the winter and almost everyone was here for the hot chocolate. REVIEW FOR HOT CHOCOLATE ONLY! The hot chocolate that they sell at this shop is unique in a few ways: 1) They serve it in a soup serving bowl. It's not a typical cup that I was expecting. So, you can use a spoon to scoop it up. 2) They use real melted chocolate. The mixture is thicker because of it. I don't personally know but it seems that they use a mix of dark & milk chocolate cause I got a slight bitterness from the dark along with the sweetness from the milk. 3) They use uniquely soft marshmallows. Some might say that it's too soft and melts too quickly, but I didn't mind that at all. I personally gave my rating a 4 because of the price. First impressions: a small, but cute market. I had a look around but didn't see anything I wanted except the hot chocolate. I did glance long and longingly at the pastry case but I didn't want to overdo the sugar or ruin my hot choco experience The Noms: the hot chocolate is PERFECT. My favorite one to date. The ratio of melty, thick drinking chocolate to toasted marshmallow was perfect. Some places have not enough (Cafe Panna) or too much (Glacé) but this spot was perfect. The tomato soup was ok and the hot chocolate was weird. Went here for a quick breakfast on a Sunday morning. The place was packed but the line moved quickly. There is limited seating inside and some tables outside. They have prepackaged options, baked goods, and hot food. We got two packages salads, house made ice cream, a breakfast sandwich, and a jalapeño bread. The breakfast sandwich was really so good. I will be going back for it. Rigor Hill Market uses very fresh ingredients and you can tell. Their bread was also so delicious. You can taste the difference in quality for their products. This place is so overpriced for what they give you. Do not be deceived by the numerous yummy hot chocolate pics like I was. The hot chocolate was a whopping $10, which I suppose is to be expected at a trendy Tribeca cafe. However my main issue with it is that it was quite literally one of the worst hot chocolates I ever had. The marshmallows were overly sweet and grainy, with flavor indistinguishable from store-bought ones and with worse texture. The hot chocolate itself was wayyy too sweet and highly concentrated. I prefer Swiss Miss. Rigor Hill had me drinking straight up melted chocolate. The other thing I got (couldn't even tell you what it is just check the photo) was okay and cost $15. Not impressed. This is definitely a sit down chocolate dessert rather than a walking around beverage. The small soup cup seems small compared to a latte but the chocolate is rich enough to satisfy at this size. I came specifically for the blueberry muffins. First, the muffin had no flavor and it was pretty dense. I had about five blueberries AT MOST in my muffin. Being that it was over seven dollars, I was really disappointed in the quality of it. I think any muffin that would have come out of box would've tasted better than the muffin I had. read more

Updating my past review... love this place. My kid lives in the area & whenever I am nearby I make a point to stop by & get something to go for later. probably been 10-15 times in the past 2 years. I have had the turkey & the breakfast sandwiches many times & both are excellent. Last night I had the new Roast Pork & it was really great. I used to only eat this from Johns or Diniks in Philly but I think this Riggor Hill one beat them both. It was a perfect balance with the roast pork, broc rabe & cheese. Stumbled on this excellent bakery. Not listed as a bakery in Google Maps! Believe me: Rigor Hill Market IS a little bakery! And it is a great one!  For starters I tried a muffin-like thing they call a cardamom-something.  It think maybe it's a brand-new creation by them, because it is not yet listed on their website menu, and I don't remember the name.  They don't call it a muffin, although it is a treat that is of medium muffin-size. Whatever it is, it is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!  Don't miss it!  Incredibly, when you pull on the edges of the paper 'holder' of this thing, it AUTOMATICALLY FALLS INTO PERFECTLY SHAREABLE PIECES!!  I have never seen anything like it.  It's like a NEW INVENTION!  Sweet, moist... spectacularly delicious...cardamom thing! And now, on to the GORGEOUS sourdough bread. So gorgeous, I took a picture.  So pretty I wanted to embalm it to keep on display forever. But I didn't do that.  Instead I ate it.  And I'm glad I did because it has a delicious lightly-sour sourdough taste, and that wonderful sourdough texture of your dreams.  A great sourdough bread.  I predict victory for this bread at the Tribeca State Fair. When hot chocolate goes viral on the internet, of course I will give into the temptation to try. I made my way down to Rigor Hill Market on a Sunday morning and when I arrived the line was (almost) out the door! I should have taken photos of the menus on the wall but I was there for only one thing, and majority of customers had the same mindset. At first it was kind of confusing to make out which customers were actually on line or if they were waiting for their order. Once that was established, I was able to order fairly quickly and the wait time was minimal. Once I got my hot chocolate I went outside to see if a table was available to enjoy my beverage, and luckily there was! Note: you need a spoon to enjoy this drink because of the marshmallows. I would definitely rate this hot chocolate a 10/10. The carmelizing of the marshmallows mixed with the decadent chocolate (sipping chocolate consistency) was amazing. Stopped by on a Sunday at 3pm with a plan to get lunch and hot chocolate. When we walked in I loved seeing all of the fresh produce and a huge jug of free flavored water with fresh fruits and herbs! The turkey sandwich was the only one speaking to me on the menu, but unfortunately it was already sold out so we had to go somewhere else for lunch. The BLT is one of the best I ever had. Only thing is the bread was a bit too rough around the edges. The avocado toast was very tasty and unique in flavor. It had a sort of sweetness and acidity that makes this in particular memorable. The black garlic also goes well with it, adding another level of flavor without overpowering what an avocado toast should taste like. Customer service was also fast. They replied quickly when asked if they used organic ingredients, although it's a bit misleading to only mention about the produce saying that they use organic practices for their produce, but did not say anything about their meat products. read more

Hot chocolate review! If I could I would rate their hot cocoa a 4.5* overall and a 4* for personal taste. The chocolate is "European thick" and served in an 8oz soup bowl with toasted marshmallows on top. Presentation is beautiful. Certainly fancy, but was it worth $10? I think not. The croissant was fine as well, at the much more respectable price of $5. It was super flaky and had a light buttery flavor. Definitely wasn't dripping butter, which was appreciated. 9/10 There's limited seating, so beware. More of a grab and go place but Tribeca is a lovely place to walk around in. I have been wanting to come here for some while to try their viral egg sandwich, and finally made my way in on a cold winter morning. The market is quaint and cute, but definitely overpriced (expected given it is in the heart of tribeca). We got the egg sandwich, tiktok famous hot chocolate, and a latte with almond milk. -Latte (1/5): This latte was undrinkable for me. The coffee tasted a bit sour and the almond milk was not creamy and lacked any sort of flavor. -Egg Sandwich (4/5): I really enjoyed this egg sandwich! The frittata was SO soft and a bit custardy, and paired well with the thin layers of tomato jam and cheese. The bread was also toasted really well and perfectly thick. My only qualm is it was definitely a bit too buttery and greasy; felt like I was eating a grilled cheese at times rather than a breakfast sandwich. -Hot chocolate (3/5): It was pretty good... the marshmallows were toasted very nicely and had a nice char, and the gooeiness blended well with the rich hot chocolate. That being said, the hot chocolate was a bit TOO rich and sweet. If you have a sweet tooth, this might be your thing, but a couple of sips were enough for me. Charming little market with so many fun finds! They have a really great selection of drinks- I've tried their juice and kombucha and they were both delicious. Their sandwiches are very yummy as well! The ingredients feel like they're were thoughtfully put together and high quality. I've tried the turkey sandwich, which has a generous portion of turkey- it's a very thick sandwich- and the veggie sandwich. The veggie sandwich had a butternut squash spread, which perfect for the fall. It had pickled onions in it as well, which cuts down on the richness of the squash.
