This was our third time at Happy Accidents and, to my surprise, I had not reviewed this place. This bar is definitely big and screams artsyxotic with its grassy ceiling, hanging monkeys, and mannequin wall. The drink crafters are definitely talented and very attentive, ready to make recommendations. This last time we ordered the espresso matini, the citrus, the bubble gum cosmo, and the pornstar martini. The espresso martini was absolutely smooth with a lot of coffee flavor. The citrus was definitely citrus and refreshing. The pot star martini was very funny and fun to drink, wirh a lot of tropical flavors, but it was not as fun as the glittery cosmo. As a snack, the birria fries were a good compliment, quite delicious with enough birria. Overall, it is no surprise that Happy Accidents is one of the best bars known the US. Such a fun cocktail bar in the historic Route 66 of ABQ! I had been eyeing Happy Accidents since a few years back and excited to finally get a visit. My husband got the signature Happy Little Accidents- the cocktail with Bob Ross atop. He said it tasted good- sweet. I got a N/A cocktail- London Girl Lost and Nochtilli Refresher. Both were really well made mocktails that didn't just taste of syrup and soda water. Flavors like actually melded really well and you can distinguish the notes! The garnish for my mocktails were fun, too- and the giant rectangular prism of ice. Staff was very kind and friendly from when we entered to sit until we left. I have to confess that I've been wanting to get here after I saw Drink Masters. Kate Gerwin almost won and I love New Mexico, rooting for her was easy. I'll stop being a fan boy and get to the review. The vibe is great. You don't come here to get wasted, you come to meet friends, both old and new. The music is a laid back groovy. The servers give you air and since they work as a team, you get great service all the time. Yesterday we came and I had a mocktail to start. I don't need booze with drinks like that. The bride had a grasshopper yesterday and today she had frizen dirty chai latte both were excellent and she preferred the grasshopper because it was like a Girl Scout thin mint. Yesterday was a mocktail and then a drink with alcohol. They both were outstanding. Today I did a martini flight and the Cacao, the alpine and the one with sandalwood. They are the perfect size for a flight. The Alpine was like a limoncello and is good. The cacao was also good. It wasn't chocolate overload but a true cacao taste. The big surprise was the sandalwood manhattan. What a smooth and dangerous drink. I'm not a fan of a manhattan but wowzer this could get me in trouble. It's so smooth and not too sweet, which is why I don't like manhattans. This by far my favorite place to have a cocktail. We always enjoy Happy Accidents! Their cocktail menu is so carefully and expertly curated that they make it hard to choose. One night, recently, 8 of us drank the menu! We ordered just about everything and I fell in love with the Hey Love drink. The sparkling "electric dust" nearly gave me an out of body experience! I NEED that stuff in my life!! I love that they've converted the two back rooms into private karaoke suites, too! We had a party of (shhhh....20) pack into the "big" room meant for 15. It was crammed in there, but oh so fun and our servers were incredibly attentive to our group. We also love the fun Christmas "Magic" popup that happens annually each Holiday season. I had been wanting to come here after seeing a review of it in the paper and my friend sending me an Insta post about it. We came Saturday night around 6. They told us it'd be about a 5-10 minute wait, but were called about 3 minutes later. It's not too loud in there and all the Christmas decor for the Miracle pop up really set the mood. Our server was helpful. We got the birria fries ($14) and it was more than enough for two of us to share. My friend started off with a local beer and I got the biscochito coquito ($16). All the drinks came in festive mugs and other items on the menu ranged from eggnog popcorn, pho frito pie, dirty martini deviled eggs, posole, and an onion jam and cranberry burger. For "dessert", (despite there being a tres leches bread pudding on the menu), we got the Santa Sippers- hazelnut and coconut hot chocolate with coconut whipped cream for $10 each. It was soo good! The last time I had one was in Greece and this one did not disappoint. I wasn't expecting the side car of sparkling white, which was a nice touch. My SIL ordered a martini flight and my brother ordered some beers. We were told that everyone who worked there was a bartender! That was cool. I was meeting up with some friends for a post-holiday holiday get together and we decided to try the pop up at Happy Accidents. I hadn't been before so I'll also have to go back when they're not having a special event. That said, I loved the decorations for the event and the cute mugs the drinks came in were just spectacular. The drink menu both for the event and in general was pretty extensive. The server also had some good recommendations for us. I just couldn't resist the drink in the adorable t-rex mug! The food also looked quite tasty though I had just had lunch so wasn't up for anything at the time. I will go back for more food and drink taste testing. Stunning! Gorgeous! Delicious drinks! All the things! I saw this bar on an IG post as one of the venues making special items for the balloon fiesta, and it was on my list of places to visit. This is definitely a more eclectic place than others we visited, but I didn't find it pretentious or uncomfortable. To start, I was IN LOVE with the decor: everything was so luxe and elevated, with textured walls, live plants, dark colors and just... chef's kiss. We were seated at a huge table, and we were just in for cocktails. There is food, but we weren't hungry after a huge lunch. We had a gin and tonic, the Swipe Right (their version of a mai tai), an Espresso Martini, and an Up In the Air (a spicy martini with a cotton candy cloud) as well as some PB& J shots. All the cocktails were incredibly balanced and intentional, and we were left with bottles of water to enjoy our conversations and linger as long as we wanted. Drinks were good, if not a little too expensive for Albuquerque, New Mexico. We only had a couple of drinks, so will need to return & try other options. Also so far I haven't tried the food. They have an very extensive drink/ specialty cocktail menu online, it was hard to make a first-tine here choice; especially since many of the drinks listed ingredients we'd never heard of before today. Both my companion and I have been around the sun a few trips, but we were still surprised at how many ingredients were completely unknown to each of us. A little research needs to be conducted before I return. Also, I will sit at the bar next time and get some insight from the bartender. I was a little disappointed in the decor/ ambience/ colors choices. I think they were going for a youthful, cleancut & modern look. Mostly I got cheap. Decorating on a strict budget. Tables were mostly constructed of cinder blocks. Fabrics were miss-matched. L believe someone attempted to make the color scheme shades of blue, but somehow the two shocking pink chairs upfront with scratched paint didn't quite fall into the "blue" scheme. This was my favorite bar that I visited during my 2 weeks in Albuquerque! Such cool ambience, the service was amazing, and the cocktails were SO creative, thoughtful and tastes incredible! I don't think I'll ever have a better espresso martini than the one I tried there. Our server explained how they do everything in house from the vodka to the nitro coffee, it was so impressive. I realized their party limit but they happily sat our party of 7 at one of their larger tables, granted we got there at their opening time of 5pm. We also enjoy sitting at the bar (two of us)! I'm a fan. We went here for the second time last night and loved it both times for different reasons. The first time was a pure accident after a less-than-pleasant dinner across the street at Bar Roma (just an off night for them) and we loved the vibe, loved our drinks (Happy Little Accidents for the big guy, Watermelon Frose for me), loved our bartender. Between the first and second time I had the chance to do a little research, and I love the thought process and approach this place is taking. They pay all of their staff a living wage, and they make their own stuff, from the spirits to the flavorings to the unique ice, which is thoughtfully varied and paired to the drink. Our bartender was Oscar last night and he was insanely talented and knew the drinks inside and out. We enjoyed his recommendations and explanations of both why the drinks were created and prepared. We had three rounds and must have tried 8-9 different drinks between the four of us and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. The prices aren't cheap but considering the thoughtfulness and the quality of handmade ingredients, I consider it a better value that the multitudes of typical cocktails you'd find elsewhere. You can't find a Happy Accidents cocktail anywhere else and that's pretty special. I'm probably not doing a great job of explaining why I love this place, but I really do. "Yelp is for the bitter" - not true!! Alright. Let's keep things real here. I've read some of the lower star reviews and honestly - get your head out of your peach bottom. To summarize the negative reviews: customer service is awful, large parties of 6+ have issues, people don't like being carded at the door, cocktails are poured from the tap, there are a "lot of rules", the owner is rude, and the cocktails are expensive. First off, the "rules" are guidelines that basically say to be respectful to staff / establishment PLUS give you a heads up to pay with cash for a cheaper deal. How TF is that bad? They are trying to get you to save money. The "rules" lay the cards out on the table. This is open communication vs attempting to mind read. They clearly state what is to be expected. Nothing is ambiguous. Yes, SOME cocktails are poured 100% from the tap while others are only partially poured. This is a smart business model to keep the place flowing. They are a distillery and importer - the booze is theirs! They are creating a system to accommodate the traffic that comes through this place. If you don't want something poured straight from the tap then COMMUNICATE that with the bartender / server. Our bartender was Patrick and he pointed us in the right direction while making us delicious cocktails! I've read hurtful reviews about the owner. I don't know her, but I had the chance to meet her. I'm from NJ and I realized quickly that my honesty and forth coming nature offends people out here in the southwest. The owner is not rude / nasty the way the reviews depict her. You can tell she LOVES what she does. This is her baby. She is PASSIONATE. Don't mistake her passionate nature for being rude. She knows what she's doing. She is sharing her baby with you. I found this an efficient way to help the staff serve accordingly instead of worrying about checking IDs at each table. Bring your ID. Show it. Get seated. So fricking simple. We sat at the bar so we didn't have to wait long for our drinks. If you have a large party of 6+ don't expect to sit together. This isn't the place for that. This is a more intimate environment. I 110% recommend this place. Try it out. If you want to avoid the crowds then come earlier when they first open. I found some of the negative reviews unrealistic. Decided to stop in at Happy Accidents because we were across the street having dinner. Thought Happy Accidents was a cute name for a bar. I'm going to be honest when we first drove by I just saw plants and thought this was a plant store lol. We went in around 8ish on a Friday and it was packed. We waited about 15ish minutes for a table for 3, which wasn't bad considering how busy it was. I loved the décor inside, really such a vibe. The cocktails are around $15, which where I'm from is standard for a cocktail bar. I ordered the Hey Love and I've literally never had a cocktail like this in my life. When they brought it to the table I was thinking "uhh how boring, did they pour a White Claw into a waterglass" but the taste made up for the appearance. Great ambiance!! This is the second time I've been here and the drinks are consistently good! I love the pop up theme that they have now for Christmas (Miracle on 34th street). The menu was well thought out and had pictures of all the Christmas drinks and in their festive cups that they come in. (They were even selling the cute Christmas cups). We didn't eat this time, but the last time we went the food was really good! We had a Watermelon Feta salad that was super fresh and the dressing on it was so delicious! 4.5/5! Figured we'd stop by on our roadtrip as we started watching Drink Masters at our hotels and became slightly obsessed. Was worried with some of the reviews here but this place is awesome. $100 for four drinks and two appetizers. Sure, on the expensive side, but not for two Californians (and one who spent a few years in New York). It sounds pretentious but this place has a very clear vibe they're going for and the drinks, price, ambiance, etc all fit together really well. This is not a dive bar where you get $5 margaritas, but every drink was well worth the price. Speaking of the vibe, the "strict rules" are veryyyyy standard. It's a nicer place - just don't be a mess. If you're a good vibe, you'll get a good vibe back. The servers were very nice, we did go right at opening on a Monday, though, so I'm sure it's a very different story rather than going a weekend night. It took us an hour and thirty to get out of there, but we paced ourselves, so expect to be there for a while. It's an experience and not meant to be rushed; we didn't feel like we waited around long before being asked if we wanted anything else. We had the Hey Love, Ursula, Be Mighty, and Oreo Negroni. My boyfriend loved the Oreo Negroni, and the Hey Love was a great introduction for Gin drinks for me. The Ursula is sweet, but I'm obsessed with everything that comes in it. The food was alright, but it's a cocktail bar and not a restaurant, so we weren't extremely worried (the Fried Mushrooms didn't really taste like anything but enjoyed the jalapeno crema, and the steak in the Steak Frites wasn't warm). We went here based upon a recommendation and I immediately regretted not having done my usual diligence beforehand. I would argue this is not a cocktail bar. Yes, they serve cocktails but 60 drinks on tap eliminates the art of cocktails. Cocktails are a bartenders art. Watching the cocktail be made, no two cocktails are exactly alike. I was turned off by the idea of choosing a drink that would pour from a container through a tap (never mind that most of the ingredients are not commonly understood). 99% of the staff was friendly. Unfortunately the 1% that was not was our bartender. I asked if they made drinks that were not on the list. She responded that if their 60 premade cocktails plus those on the back page were not enough then probably not. I hadn't seen the back page of their online menu so my bad. I ordered a drink from that. It was not good. The steak frites described itself as being cooked to medium rare. I asked if they could cook to a higher temperature (I appreciate not all restaurants want adjustments to their offerings). She explained it was possible but then proceeded to tell me how a more well done hangar steak doesn't fare well, it's not the right temperature for that cut of meat, etc. My significant other is Argentinian. They don't cook their meat medium rare. They cook it well done. I'm well aware of what cooking a hangar steak longer does to the meat. I simply want to know if it's possible. In the end, the steak and chimichurri were good but the fries were overly salted. P.S. I watched a lot of PBS as a kid. I don't understand the connection to Bob Ross and a wall of women's breasts. read more
