I used to live in Renton and then a number of years ago, moved to Covington and discovered that the few Pho places in Covington ALL have a food handling rating of OK or worse. The last place I went to had clouds of fruit flies, the floor was sticky and the table looked like a science experiment (the Pho was good though, but ewww). But this isn't about Pho places in Covington. This is about Happy Autumn in Renton. I needed to be in Renton along 4th Ave and since I don't get to eat good Pho much anymore, I saw that Happy Autumn was along the route I'd be driving. My first impression. The food handling rating is EXCELLENT and the restaurant looked clean. The staff was delightful, professional, full of smiles, and had my order ready for pick-up right on time. I got the grilled chicken Pho to go, which is risky because 'to-go' meals can be skimped on since people don't tend to complain on meals to go from their house. I was NOT disappointed. They piled up all the goodies. Extra Sriracha, jalapenos, cilantro and basil. Lots of chicken and noodles and just a touch of sprouts (they are my least favorite Pho item). The broth was fragrant, flavorful and by the time I got home 45 minutes later, still hot. I put it all together and enjoyed some of the best Pho I've ever eaten locally. HIGHLY recommend. read more

My friend said I should give this place and try and it was OK but I wouldn't return. As others reviewed, the best thing about this place is the service. Staff was nice, attentive and the tables and restaurant seemed very clean. We ordered pho, chicken summer rolls and a grilled chicken rice plate. The broth didn't have a lot of depth. It was fine but not enough to warrant a return. The grilled chicken was not exactly grilled. It tasted more like boiled chicken in a sauce and it was very sweet. I will keep looking for other pho restaurants to try. We have visited I Love Pho and Square Lotus in the Factoria area for probably 2 decades so need a change sometimes. read more

Giving them 2 stars for really great service, but the food was a bit disappointing. We rolled into Happy Autumn for our first time with high hopes of trying a new place. We were pretty hungry since we just finished a workout, the staff were very kind, professional, and attentive from the beginning to end. We ordered the steak and meatball pho and the special combo cơm tấm (broken rice). We substituted the pork chop with their grilled chicken. Our pho experience: we tried the broth without putting anything in it to see how their original flavors were, and boy was it SWEET. Like, actually super sweet. I drowned it in Sriracha to hopefully counter the sweetness but it didn't help too much. Other than the sweetness of the broth, the soup lacked flavoring the actual pho aroma and flavor we were hoping for. It was also a tad oily unfortunately. The noodles and meat were fine but it was hard to enjoy due to the broth. The cơm tấm (broken rice) was no hero either. The broken rice chicken came out on the sweeter side too -- was really hoping for that smoky, savory kick, but got more of a sugar-glazed surprise. And the egg was a bit over fried, it was a little tough and rubbery, but the rice itself was nice. The food was DELICIOUS!! We ordered the spring rolls, 2 pho, 2 short ribs and we all devoured our food! All our dishes came out fast and was soo flavorful and fresh. Service was great, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very kid friendly as they have many cool fish tanks to look at. I got to try this Vietnamese restaurant for the first time recently, and was surprised that I hadn't been in sooner since I'm pretty familiar with the area. Their dining space was huge and had enough seating for groups or solo diners; service was quick and attentive; food was fresh and delicious! I got the combo bùn (vermicelli salad bowl) and a Vietnamese iced coffee, and really enjoyed my whole meal. I learned about this place with a little sign on the street and was curious about their food. The inside is nice and very spacious. I came before the lunch crowd so it was quieter. I ordered a small combo pho and the lime soda. The broth lacked a lot of flavor. I'm not tasting much when it comes to spices. The little plate that held the bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, basil, and lime wedges were fairly small. I could have used a few more pieces of basil. It was alright but it can be better. The spring rolls are super fresh and tasty. And the Pho was a very healthy serving with just the right amount of broth. The servers were super nice, the vibe and atmosphere is great as well, they had cooking on TV which was cool and nice music. I love kung pao chicken, so I got it. I asked if it had bell peppers and the server said sure. When it came, it was pretty much just chicken and bell peppers In sauce on a bed of like hard fried noodles that I didn't like at all. It came with rice but the hard noodle things were all over the meal. Not a fan. Additionally, we ordered the large Tofu & Veggie Pho, which was a wholesome offering of clear broth, rice noodles, tofu, and an assortment of vegetables including carrots, cabbage, bok choy, bean sprouts, and fresh mushrooms, garnished with green onions and cilantro. While I have a preference for meat and found the beef broth particularly satisfying, the vegetable pho was a solid option for those preferring a plant-based meal. (I'm basically saying the beef broth was tastier though!) The staff was welcoming, and parking was conveniently accessible. The overall value for the quality and amount of food was very reasonable. I had the deluxe broken rice (com tam) and my friends all had their pho. We all enjoyed the meal a lot! I wasn't too hungry going into the meal and wasn't expecting to finish, but the broken rice was so good I considered ordering seconds! Good portion size. I also loved the service here. We were helped by a friendly young man that was extremely helpful and attentive. Prices being a bit high is my only complaint. The restaurant is clean, big, and bright, and our server was excellent. We were very pleased with our first sit-down experience and will be back for sure. It's quite ambitious for the owners to lease such a wide space, but I think their food and services are deserving of the amount of customers it can hold. I went during their grand opening special and got the bun bo hue and pho. The pho had a lot of nice foundational flavors and wasn't just flavor enriched by salt. So it was very soothing and the meat, supplementary add-ons, and noodles were enough to keep me full. The bun bo hue could have used more salt or spices in the broth to complement the toppings better. The bun bo hue came with the usual toppings as well as pork blood and a pork knuckle. Getting in and out was super quick and the owners were attentive enough to see if I needed more water or if the experience was sufficient. So I'd probably come back here more for the pho than the bun bo hue. Their menu is pretty extensive if you'd want to try out other items. We were excited for a new pho place to open up. We already have a ton of Vietnamese restaurants to be honest but I love Vietnamese food so it was still a net positive for me. Unfortunately, every thing that we've tried from them has 0 flavor. It's actually kind of baffling. Even previous bad pho I've had - I could still taste some sort of flavor. But theirs is literally no taste at all. I've tried dining in a couple times and had take out once... No taste on anything I've had. Unfortunately my family and I had an incident that resulted me in never going back and me telling a ton of people not to go there. We placed our orders and waited for a while. It took so long that a family who sat down about 10 minutes after we ordered, ordered 5 different dishes, got all their food before us. We had to flag someone down and apparently our order was never put in. We had been waiting 25-35 minutes by that time and so we had to wait even longer. The server who took our order and neglected to put it in never even apologized to us. The owners (I think) apologized but not the one who screwed up. I addition, we weren't offered anything to comp us. I know this isn't necessarily something that's required but it would have been a nice gesture to comp us our spring rolls, offer a free dessert, give us a small discount on our hill... Anything would have been a nice gesture that would have let us leave feeling a little better. Go to a different Vietnamese place. read more
